The world’s youngest nation is facing a humanitarian catastrophe.
Thousands of people have been killed and nearly 2 million driven from their homes in South Sudan since civil war erupted in December 2013. The fighting brought an abrupt end to three years of relative stability following South Sudan’s separation from Sudan. Millions of people are facing the threat of famine and some 50,000 children are at risk of dying of acute malnutrition.
The International Rescue Committee and its aid workers have witnessed firsthand the suffering caused by this crisis. With decades of experience working in South Sudan’s hardest hit areas—both before and after independence—the IRC has released a new report providing on-the-ground evidence and urgent recommendations to help save lives.
