Rola Gdańska w badaniu inkluzji bursztynowych Głównym przedmiotem zainteresowania Helma był rząd Coleoptera. Sporządził on zestawienie 600 inkluzji (tab. 2) chrząszczy z całkowitej liczby 700, z których 100 było w złym stanie uniemożliwiającym oznaczenie (1886). Klasyfikacja oparta była na ówcześnie stosowanym systemie. Dziesięć lat później jego kolekcja obejmowała około 1000 inkluzji z rzędu Coleoptera. Materiał pochodzący z kolekcji Helma był wielokrotnie badany przez specjalistów. Badania te zaowocowały serią publikacji, z których wymienić należy przede wszystkim: SCHAUFUSS I 1888, 1890, SCHAUFUSS II 1891, 1896, SEIDLITZ 1898 (Coleoptera), K LEBS 1886 (Gastropoda), K RÜGER 1923 (Neuroptera), S E L L N I C K 1931 (Acari), B E I E R 1937 (Pseudoscorpiones), CONWENTZ 1886 (rośliny). Według Helma wszystkie inkluzje przechowywane były w wodzie z 15% zawartością alkoholu zapobiegającego utlenianiu; stan ten potwierdził oficjalny raport: „… inkluzje umieszczono w ośrodku ciekłym …” (Amtlicher Bericht 1903, 12; KOSMOWSKA-CERANOWICZ 2001). Przeglądając pozostałości kolekcji Helma w dziale geologicznym Muzeum Przyrodniczego w Gotha, autorka stwierdziła, że inkluzje były częściowo przechowywane w oryginalnych fiolkach szklanych (ryc. 1, 4) wypełnionych olejem o nieznanym składzie chemicznym.

by an official report: ...”the inclusions were place in liquid medium” ... (Amtlicher Bericht 1903, 12; KOSMOWSKACERANOWICZ 2001). When the author checked the remnants of the Helm collection in the geological department of the Museum of Nature in Gotha, inclusions partly were kept in original glass-tubes (fig. 1, 4), filled with oil of unknown chemical composition. Thus, after HELM'S death and deposition of his collection in the PD, the water in the glass-tubes must have been replaced by oil. HELM published following papers on inclusions in the “Schriften der Naturforschenden Gesellschaft Danzig”: 1884: Ueber einige Einschlüsse im Bernstein. 1886: Ueber die Insekten des Bernsteins. 1869a: Beiträge zur Kenntnis der Insecten des Bernsteins. 1869b:Thierische Einschlüsse im Succinit. 1899a: Bemerkenswerte Käfereinschlüsse im Bernstein. 1899b: Insekteneinschlüsse in Gedanit. BEIER 1937 studied the Pseudoscorpionid inclusions of the museum in Danzig including a revision of the types described by MENGE. In his descriptions concerning type deposits he only named the “Danzig museum”, not expressively the HELM collection. HELM did add no letters or “/” to his ollection labels. But BEIER documented under “types” several labels with an added small letter as in “101a” or slash as in “24/1”. Thus it remains unclear in many cases if the material he studied was either from the personal collection of HELM or from MENGE or from the collection of the PD. KOSMOWSKA-CERANOWICZ 2001 (82) mentioned that the HELM collection was studied by MAYR, SCHAUFUSS I and II. No evidence
