2013 ICF Chorus of Nations:

Canada Coastal Sound Youth Choir Carrie Tennant, Conductor The Coastal Sound Youth Choir is made up of 69 young people, ranging in ages from 14-21, who come from the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. Extremely enthusiastic and energetic, this close-knit group of singers is quickly becoming known for their innovative programming and imaginative performances.The singers love to share with and learn from other choirs. In the past few years they have enjoyed collaborative performances with, among others; musica intima; the Vancouver Cantata Singers; Kokopelli Youth Choir; and The Nylons. In July of 2011 the choir hosted the Coastal Sound International Choral Festival, where hundreds of singers came together from around the world for a week of performance and sharing.Also in 2011 the youth choir was chosen as the top youth choir in Canada at the National Music Festival, and was awarded second place in the National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs (formerly the CBC Choral competition).Their CD, Lights, was released in 2010; they are currently recording a second album.The Youth Choir has been chosen to represent Canada at the Chorus America Conference in 2013. Carrie Tennant, Conductor Carrie Tennant is well-known in the choral community for her energetic and creative approach to working with youth. Carrie conducts the Sarah McLachlan School of Music Youth Choir; the Chor Leoni MYVoice Vancouver Choir; and is the Associate Artistic Director of Coastal Sound Music Academy, where she directs their youth choir. Carrie is also an Artist-in-Residence with the Vancouver School Board; is coordinator of the Vancouver Kiwanis Choral Festival; and a frequent clinician, adjudicator and retreat facilitator throughout Western Canada. In 2008 Carrie was the recipient of the BCCF Youth Achievement Award for distinguished support of choral music in British Columbia. Passionate about building and sustaining community between BC choral choirs and conductors, she helped found the BC Choral Mentorship Project in 2010. Carrie is also a member of Vancouver-based indie-pop group the Salteens, who toured across the country with “Yo Gabba Gabba Live!” after being featured on the Nickelodeon show,Yo Gabba Gabba.
