New Horizons - New courses ​starting this month are:Mentoring Skills Level 2 - starts 9.30am - 12 noon on Monday 3rd June for 6 weekly sessions. Introduction to Popular Psychology Level 1 - starts 9.30am - 12 noon on Wednesday 5th June for 6 weekly sessions. Music Now​ is a new Community Group in the Cynon valley, delivering creative workshops and group sessions for education, health and wellbeing. An open meeting has been organised to learn what it is about and to give your input on what needs there are in the area for new projects with a creative response, whether that be for education, physical and mental health or social inclusion. The meeting is being held at the new Canolfan Pennar (ex Day Centre) in Oxford St Mountain Ash, CF45 3HD on 13th June 2019 from 7-9pm. For more information call 01443 476750. Carer’s Support Group For Stroke and neurological conditions​. Stroke and other neurological conditions can have a BIG impact on families, carers and friends. This group will give you the chance to meet with others whose lives have been affected by stroke, and other neurological conditions, in a friendly and informal environment. You will also gain support and advice from our staff. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided! The group will run for 8 sessions from 1pm-4pm starting Wednesday 5th June 2019. Session dates: 5th 12th 19th 26th June, 10th 17th 31st July, 7th August. At St. John’s Church, Graig Street, Pontypridd. Entrance to the hall is around the back of the church. Please book your space by ringing 01685 726916, or if you have any questions. Merthyr And The Valleys MIND ​have 2 training opportunities for groups in June. A training event in Brynncae Community Centre, Llanharan on the 4th June. The training will be on how groups can support each other more, looking at mental health awareness and communication skills. The second event will take place at the Hapi Hub, Rhydyfelin on the 26th June and will be more of a networking event where groups can meet each other and learn more about what they do. On attendance of either of these events applications can be made for £250 for their group to support their sustainability. 3​rd Friday of the month. The group will be for those living with Dementia and their Carers and will have activities, a tuck shop, cafe area with a coffee menu and will also be offering bacon sandwiches or toast (a charge of 50p). It’s a relaxed group where there will be activities to take part in if you wish to do so or just sit and chat over a cuppa. The Arts Factory hold regular weekly meetings at Dewi Sant Hospital, Pontypridd on Tuesdays between 1.30pm-3pm. Called Active Inclusion, the project aims to help you to change your life, increase condence, self-esteem, build social networks, offer opportunities and volunteering. We will take a exible and personal approach to help you to self manage, via budgeting skills, goal setting, planning in addition to mental health/disability awareness and further learning. The attendance at Forum meetings is regularly over 40, with overall membership of 56 at present. The Forum is seeking a new Chairperson, to take over from Geoff Bell who is soon to leave, at or before the AGM in October. Geoff would be happy to speak or meet with anyone over the age of 50 from the local community, which includes Llantrisant, Pontyclun, Talbot Green, Llanharan and Llanharry, who would be willing to consider contributing to the Forum by joining and Chairing. Run by the Memory Assessment Service, the group will meet on Tuesday 25th June from 1:00pm - 3:00pm at Penydarren Social Club, Merthyr Tydfil 5


Tea Dance - Come and and enjoy a tea time dance, basic steps learned every week. A chance for you to learn and remember dance steps from times gone by. Every Monday from 12:00pm - 1:00pm at Merthyr Leisure Centre. Reconnect 50+ activity groups - ​Monday’s 10am - 12pm at Hope Chapel, Wednesday’s 10:30am - 12:30pm at Bethel Hall, Bedlinog and Ty-Brynseion, Dowlais Thursday’s 2:00pm - 4:00pm at Calfaria Chapel, Heolgerrig. Come along for a chat, cuppa and to try your hand at various activities. Crafty Cuppa’s - Thursday’s from 10:30 pm - 12:30 pm at Theatr Soar, Pontmorlais, Merthyr Tydfil. A new craft activity each week led by tutor Rhian. Come and meet new friends and renew old ones!

Cervical Screening Awareness Week ​will run from 10th - 16th June. Jo’s Trust will be raising awareness of the importance of screening in preventing cervical cancer. Volunteering is a great way to give something back while boosting your own health and well being. Please contact your local Coordinators for more details. VAMT will have information stalls at Marks & Spencer, Cyfarthfa Retail Park, Merthyr Tydfil on Monday 3rd June, and Tesco Stores, Merthyr Tydfil on Tuesday 4th June. If you have an interest in volunteering or know someone who does, then please pass on this information. Carers Week 2019 Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring. There are 6.5 million people in the UK who are carers, and this years’ campaign aims to help Carers stay connected.
