Für Liebhaber schöner Dinge

Die Mailänder Möbelmesse war auch in diesem Jahr wieder ein Anziehungspunkt für alle Designinteressierten, wenngleich etwas weniger Besucher als im Vergleichsjahr 2013 gezählt wurden. Nichtsdestotrotz informierten sich über 310.000 Besucher über die neuesten Trends im Bereich Möbel, Licht und Büro. Zudem lockte die Mailänder Design Week bei frühlingshaften Temperaturen zahlreiche Besucher in die Mailänder Innenstadt. Das InteriorFashion-Team

war für Sie mit dabei und hat die Highlights beider Veranstaltungen für Sie zusammengefasst. Etwas mehr Raum haben wir dabei Luca Nichetto eingeräumt, der am Design-Hotspot Spazio Rossana Orlandi der Entstehungsgeschichte seines Interior-Labels „Nichetto“ eine eigene Ausstellung widmete. Eine hochinteressante Geschichte.

Mehr zufällig in die Hände gefallen ist uns das Buch von Mario Pricken mit dem ungewöhnlichen Titel „Die Aura des Wertvollen“. Pricken ist unter anderem Bestseller-Autor und in der Kreativ-Szene bestens bekannt. „Die Aura des Wertvollen“ beschreibt 80 Parameter, die ein Produkt, ein Objekt oder Ereignis wertvoll machen. Identifiziert hat Pricken diese, in dem er in drei Jahren über 300 wertvolle Produkte, Objekte und Ereignisse daraufhin untersucht hat, was genau sie denn eigentlich so wertvoll macht.

Das Buch ist aber nicht nur eine Zustandsbeschreibung, sondern es ist ein Innovationsbuch für kreative Vordenker aus Produktentwicklung, Marketing, Design, Events oder der Kunst und bietet einen umfassenden Fragenkatalog als Trigger für eigene Ideen, um Produkten jene Aura zu verleihen, die Begehren auslöst. For those who love beautiful things – The Milan furniture fair was a center of attraction again this year for all lovers of design, although slightly fewer visitors were counted than in 2013. Nonetheless, over 310,000 visitors went there for information about the latest trends in the areas of furniture, lighting, and offices. And in spring-like weather, the Milan Design Week also attracted lots of visitors to downtown Milan. The InteriorFashion team was there as well and has summarized the highlights of both events for you. Somewhat more space has been given to Luca Nichetto, who dedicated a special exhibition to the creation history of his “Nichetto” interior label at the design hotspot Spazio Rossana Orlandi. An intriguing story.

It was rather by chance that we ran across the book

by Mario Pricken with the unusual title “The Essence of Value.” Pricken is a bestselling author and very well known in the creative scene. “The Essence of Value” describes 80 parameters that make a product, an object, or an event valuable. Pricken identified them by spending three years examining over 300 valuable products, objects, and events to deter-

mine what exactly makes them so valuable. However, the book is not just a status description. Rather, it is an innovative manual for creative planners in product development, marketing, design, events, or the arts and offers a comprehensive catalog of questions as triggers for new ideas to give products the kind of aura that awakens desires. An interview with Mario Pricken takes you into the world of the valuable and provides some insights that go beyond the book.

We especially want to recommend the portrait of designer Benjamin Hubert, one of the young designers who is currently most in demand. His designs are not passing fads; instead, they are based on usability analyses, materiality, sustainability, and visual reduction. In an interview with us, he tells about his impressions of Milan and what is important to him in his work.

Das 1934 von Angelo und Giuseppina Molteni gegründete Unternehmen gilt heute als italienische Institution für gehobenes Möbeldesign für Wohnen, Küche und Büro.

Exhibition for 80th anniversary – On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Molteni&C Group, the Milan art museum “Galleria di Arte Moderna Milano” is presenting its success story until the 30th of June 2015 – with prototypes and design classics from the last eight decades. The curator of the “80! Molteni” exhibition is the designer Jasper Morrison.

The company, which was founded by Angelo and Giuseppina Molteni in 1934, is now considered an Italian institution for premium furniture design for living areas, kitchens, and offices.

Designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Arik Levy, Ron Gilad, and Rodolfo Dordoni stand for the Italian brand Molteni today, but also architects such as Jean Nouvel, Norman Foster – and Gio Ponti with new versions of historical designs. Im Gegenzug hat Luca De Padova 7,5% von Boffi gekauft und wird damit zum zweitgrößten Hauptaktionär.

Boffi und De Padova wollen die Internationalisierung beider Marken in enger Zusammenarbeit fortführen, um als starke Einheit das italienische „Know-how“ im Designbereich sowohl im Privat- als auch im Contractbereich zu vermitteln. Fusion of two strong brands – The two long-established Italian brands Boffi and De Padova have set up a strategic alliance in the design industry. Boffi, the high-end producer of products for kitchens and baths, has acquired 100% of the internationally wellknown De Padova furniture company. In turn, Luca De Padova has bought 7.5% of Boffi and is thus its second largest main shareholder.

Boffi and De Padova want to continue the internationalization of the two brands in close cooperation in order to transmit Italian know-how in the design sector in both the private and the contract segment as a strong team. Seit 30 Jahren ist er zudem Hochschullehrer und lehrt – nach Stationen in Stuttgart und Wismar – seit 2002 als Professor an der Hochschule Coburg. Der Autor zahlreicher Publikationen gehört seit 24 Jahren dem Präsidium BDIA, Bund Deutscher Innenarchitekten, an und war von 2007 bis 2011 Präsident des BDIA. At the beginning of June, Professor Rudolf Schricker will celebrate his 60th birthday. He looks back on 30 years of interior architecture and several highlights: the Liederhalle cultural and convention center in Stuttgart, the Forum am Schlosspark in Ludwigsburg, the WMF Communication Center in Geislingen/Steige, the renovation of the Stadthalle Mülheim/ Ruhr, and most recently the Forum “Alte Post” in Pirmasens. In addition, he has taught at the university level for 30 years – after stations in Stuttgart und Wismar, he has been a professor at the University of Coburg since 2002. The author of many publications has belonged to the executive committee of the Association of German Interior Architects (BDIA) for 24 years and was president of the BDIA from 2007 till 2011.

Jochen Rieger verstärkt seit 1. März als Vorsitzender der Geschäftsführung das Führungsteam der Neutex Home Deco GmbH im bayerischen Münchberg.

Mit Riegers Berufung soll der Ausbau der Marke Neutex und die internationale Ausrichtung des Unternehmens weiter vorangetrieben werden.

Zuletzt war Rieger als Geschäftsführer bei der Müller-Zell GmbH tätig.

On the 1st of April, Ingo Ganzmann took over the Bavarian sales region for the upholstered furniture producer Erpo. He thus succeeds Michael Grom, the former area sales manager who left Erpo Möbelwerk at the end of February.

„Theme Park“ geht 2016 in die zweite Runde Die Frankfurter Messe Heimtextil will ihr erfolgreiches Konzept „Theme Park“ auch im kommenden Jahr fortsetzen. Die federführende Rolle bei der Gestaltung des Trendareals 2016 übernimmt die WGSN Group aus den USA. Vertreter von sechs renommierten Designbüros kamen zum Treffen des Trendtables nach Frankfurt und definierten gemeinsam die neuen Trendthemen.

Am Trendtable für die kommende Saison beteiligten sich neben der WGSN Group auch Dan Project aus Japan, Exalis/Carlin International aus Frankreich, Felix Diener Studio aus Deutschland, FranklinTill Studio aus Großbritannien sowie das Stijlinstituut Amsterdam.

Die Trendexperten von WGSN werden die Ausarbeitung des Trendbuchs und die Gestaltung des „Theme Parks“ übernehmen.

Representatives of six renowned design companies came to the meeting of the Trendtable in Frankfurt and defined the new trend themes together. In addition to the WGSN Group, Dan Project from Japan, Exalis/Carlin International from France, Felix Diener Studio from Germany, FranklinTill Studio from Great Britain, and the Stijlinstituut Amsterdam took part in the Trendtable for the coming season. The trend experts from WGSN will take over the development of the trend book and the design of the “Theme Park.”

Die zur Schneeweiss AG gehörende Designmanufaktur Rosconi hat den Bereich Laden-, Messe- und Innenausbau „Shop Interior“ von der Schwesterfirma Atelier Schneeweiss übernommen. Der Bereich ist nun als neue Unternehmenssparte „Professional Interior“ bei Rosconi integriert. So können neben den bestehenden Edelstahl- und Loungemöbeln von Rosconi auch maßgeschneiderte Interiorkonzepte und klassische Innenausbauten aus einer Hand angeboten werden.

Neue Ideen von Christian Paschen Christian Paschen, ehemals kreativer Kopf und Chef-Produktentwickler des im Januar in die Insolvenz gerutschten und inzwischen von Investoren übernommenen Kastenmöbelherstellers Paschen, meldet sich mit neuen Ideen zurück.

In dem mit seiner Frau Juli gegründeten Designbüro Christian Paschen Design GmbH hat der erfahrene Möbel-Profi eine neue Wirkungsstätte.

Aus der Idee, Möbel aus alten Europaletten zu zimmern, ist eine ästhetische, solide und ökologische Möbelkollektion entstanden, die Paschen im Auftrag fertigen lässt – natürlich nicht mehr aus Europaletten, sondern nur in der entsprechenden Optik – und direkt an Szenegastronomien wie die populären BeachClubs vertreibt.

Der für organische Bauten bekannte Architekt Frei Otto ist im Alter von 89 Jahren gestorben. Mit der Dachkonstruktion des Münchener Olympiastadions gelangte er zu Weltruhm. Posthum wird er mit dem Pritzker-Preis für Architektur geehrt. Frei Otto war nicht nur Architekt, sondern auch „Forscher, Erfinder, Ingenieur, Umwelt-Aktivist, Humanist und Schöpfer unvergesslicher Gebäude und Orte“, begründete die Jury ihre Wahl.

Der 1925 im sächsischen Siegmar geborene Frei Otto war Schüler des Architekten Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969). Neben der Zeltdachkonstruktion des Münchner Olympiastadions entwarf Otto gemeinsam mit Kollegen unter anderem auch den Japanischen Pavillon auf der Expo 2000 in Hannover und das Spinnennetzdach über dem Deutschen Zeltpavillon für die Weltausstellung 1967 in Montréal.

Architect Frei Otto dies at 89 – Frei Otto, the architect famous for organic buildings, has died at the age of 89. With the roof construction for the Olympic Stadium in Munich, he became world-famous. Posthumously, he is being honored with the Pritzker Award for Architecture. Frei Otto was not only an architect, but also an “explorer, inventor, engineer, environmental activist, humanist, and creator of unforgettable buildings and places,” as the jury explains its decision.

Berühmt wurde Michael Graves 1982 mit seinem Portland Building, einem erstaunlich verspielten, 15-stöckigen Verwaltungsgebäude in Oregon. Ähnliche Bekanntheit erreichte sein 1985 eröffnetes Humana Building in Louisville, Kentucky, ein 26-stöckiger Wolkenkratzer aus pinkfarbenem Granit, der mit seinem Spitzgiebel und den luxuriösen Details einem Art-déco-Schrank gleicht.

His Humana Building in Louisville, Kentucky, which opened in 1985, is similarly well-known - a 26-floor skyscraper made of pink granite that resembles an Art déco cabinet with its notched gable and luxurious details.

Michael Graves, born in Indianapolis in 1934, designed more than 350 buildings all over the world, including the Ministry of Health in Den Haag, a Disneyland resort in Paris, and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

Red dot: Best of the Best Der Red Dot Award feiert dieses Jahr sein 60-jähriges Bestehen und verpflichtete für die Jurierung des Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 eine hochkarätige Jury. Die Preisverleihung findet am 29. Juni im Essener Aalto-Theater statt.

Hans J. Wegener Just One Good Chair Anlässlich des 100. Geburtstags von Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) hat der Hatje Cantz Verlag eine beeindruckende Monographie über den dänischen Designer herausgegeben. Sein Name ist untrennbar mit seinen unübertroffenen Stühlen verbunden, mit denen er dem dänischen Design international zum Durchbruch verhalf.

Jeder Designliebhaber hat einen Favoriten unter Wegners rund 500 Entwürfen. Legendär sind der China-Stuhl (1943), der Y-Stuhl (1950) oder sein nur noch schlicht „The Chair“ genannte runde Stuhl (1949).

Der gelernte Möbeltischler Wegner schuf die Prototypen zumeist mit eigener Hand; er benutzte traditionelle Verbindungstechniken wie Schlitz und Zapfen oder Fingerzinken und ging dabei an die Grenzen des mit Holz Machbaren. Auch der Humor blieb dabei nicht auf der Strecke, wie sein prachtvoller Pfauen-Stuhl (1947) oder der maskuline Ochsen-Stuhl (1960) beweisen, den man mit und ohne Hörner erwerben kann.

Every fan of design has a favorite among Wegner’s ca. 500 creations. Legendary examples are the China Chair (1943), the Y Chair (1950), and his round chair that is simply called “The Chair” (1949).

Wegner was a trained cabinetmaker and usually made the prototypes himself; he used traditional joining techniques such as mortise and tenon or finger joints and went to the limits of what can be done with wood. Was macht ein Produkt, ein Objekt oder ein Ereignis wertvoll? Warum sind Menschen bereit, für ein Designermöbel, Kunstwerk, Auto oder eine Dienstleistung viel Geld zu bezahlen? Diese Frage hat sich Mario Pricken gestellt und darüber ein Buch geschrieben: „Die Aura des Wertvollen“. Auf der Suche nach einer Antwort hat der BestsellerAutor, der seit über 17 Jahren in den Creative Industries tätig ist und internationale Konzerne, Designfirmen, namhafte Agenturen und Fernsehstationen im Bereich Kreativitäts-Strategie und Innovation berät, mehr als 300 Produkte, Objekte und Ereignisse über deren gesamten Produktzyklus hinweg sorgfältig analysiert. Das Ergebnis sind 80 Parameter, die sich in wertvollen Produkten, Objekten oder Ereignissen wiederfinden. Das sind Elemente wie Entstehungsmythos, Einzigartigkeit, Verknappung oder die Wirkung von Zeit. InteriorFashion fragte bei Mario Pricken nach. Der Einfachheit halber ist in der folgenden Aufzeichnung ausschließlich von Produkten die Rede.

IF: Herr Pricken, wie ist die Idee zu dem Buch entstanden?

Mario Pricken: Im Rahmen meiner Tätigkeit veranstalte ich seit 14 Jahren InnovationsWorkshops und Kreativitäts-Trainings. Wir legen hier stets Wert auf Praxisnähe und arbeiten mit aktuellen Projekten bzw. Aufgaben der Unternehmen oder Werbeagenturen. Dabei ist uns in den vergangenen Jahren aufgefallen, dass viele Produkte oder Objekte ein großes Problem haben: Es fehlt ihnen das Alleinstellungsmerkmal und die Einzigartigkeit. Der eigentliche Auslöser war schließlich eine Asienreise, bei der ich eine buddhistische Zeremonie beobachtet habe.

Aus der kulturellen Distanz heraus gesehen, war es mir ein Rätsel, wie man ein Stück Holz, das natürlich eine Heiligenfigur war, derart verehren kann. Mit diesem Impuls bin ich zurückgekommen und habe versucht herauszufinden, was Objekte aus der monetären Perspektive heraus wertvoll macht.

In der Literatur habe ich keine Antworten gefunden, die schlüssig waren. Und dann habe ich das gemacht, was ich immer mache, wenn ich keine Antworten auf meine Fragen finde: Ich beantworte sie mir selbst.

So sind übrigens auch meine anderen Bücher entstanden.

IF: Wie sind Sie vorgegangen?

Pricken: Zum einen habe ich versucht, vollständig zu sein. Ich wollte eine Kollektion ohne Lücken haben. Dabei habe ich mir den gesamten Lebenszyklus der einzelnen Produkte, Objekte und Ereignisse von der Entstehung bis zu ihrem Ende angeschaut und analysiert.

Denkstrategie „Tradition“: Als die große Halle des New College 1386 in Oxford errichtet wurde, wurden gleichzeitig Eichen als Ersatzholz gepflanzt. Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde schließlich genau dieses Holz verwendet, um die Halle zu erneuern.

Eventually, in the 19th century, exactly that wood was used to renovate the hall.

IF: Wann ist ein Produkt wertvoll?

Pricken: Grundregel Nummer eins ist: Das Wertvolle führt, es kopiert nicht. Luxus und Premium bedeuten, immer in gewissen Bereichen der Führende zu sein. Dabei geht es nicht um die Menge, sondern um die Qualität.

Weiterhin gilt: Wertvolle Dinge sind immer selten. Das funktioniert kulturübergreifend auf der ganzen Welt. Deshalb muss man immer darauf achten, die Stückzahlen im Zaum zu halten. Hier denke ich beispielsweise an Limited Editions oder an Sondermodelle.

IF: Steht das nicht oftmals im Widerspruch zu unserem heutigen Wirtschafts-

system von ständig steigenden Verkaufszahlen und Umsatzwachstum?

Pricken: Das ist in der Tat ein Problem.

Zahlreiche Unternehmen der Luxusbranche, die von begeisterten Menschen gegründet wurden, wurden an große Konzerne verkauft. Jetzt sind sie börsennotiert und müssen ein Quartalswachstum aufweisen.

Und das ist eine Paradoxie an sich, die unauflöslich ist.

IF: Als ersten Werte-Parameter nennen Sie in Ihrem Buch den Entstehungsmythos. Was versteht man darunter und welche Bedeutung kommt diesem zu?

Pricken: Schauen wir uns dazu einmal die Entstehungsgeschichte des Labels Coco Channel an. Bevor sie wirklich Erfolg hatte, brachte sie mehrere Kollektionen heraus, die alle durchgefallen sind. Das sind Geschichten, die sich die Menschen erzählen.

In den heutigen Massenmärkten sind wir alle auf der Suche nach dem Authentischen, nach dem, was verwurzelt ist. Produkte, die einen Entstehungsmythos haben, die authentisch sind, die eine Geschichte in sich tragen und aus sich heraus erzählen können, sind wertvolle Produkte. Dann braucht es auch keine Werbeagentur, die eine Geschichte erfinden muss.

Ich glaube, ein ganz großes Thema sind erfundene Geschichten aus der Werbung versus authentische Geschichten. Heute ist es durchaus möglich, herauszufinden, wo ein Produkt, unter welchen Umständen, mit welchen Materialien hergestellt wurde und wer unter Umständen darunter gelitten hat.

Viele Unternehmen müssen gerade die Entstehungszeit eines Produktes verstecken.

Ganz anders hingegen handhabt das der österreichische Schokoladenhersteller Zotter. Er ist so stolz auf die Herkunft seiner Rohmaterialien, dass er ständig darüber redet. Außerdem gibt es regelmäßig Fabrikbesichtigungen. Das sind richtige Events, die stark frequentiert sind. Wenn man so denkt und agiert, entstehen Geschichten, die aus dem Produkt selbst heraus erzählenswert erscheinen. Dann braucht man keine jungen Kreativen, die etwas erfinden.

Der Großteil der Werbung erzählt Geschichten, die an den Haaren herbeigezogen sind und mit dem Produkt nichts zu tun haben.

Und das haben die Leute ziemlich satt.

IF: Welche Funktion hat eigentlich Luxus?

Pricken: Ich unterscheide hier zwischen BlingBling-Luxus und Luxus im Sinne von Werthaltigkeit, das heißt, im Produkt selbst ist ein messbarer Wert enthalten. Die wichtigste Funktion von Luxus oder hochwertigen Produkten generell ist, Status zu erzeugen. Wenn Menschen in einer Gruppe über vier Personen zusammenkommen, setzt eine gruppendynamische Entwicklung ein, bei der Hierarchien entstehen. Man braucht also Symbole, die diese festlegen.

Mir geht es aber in der Diskussion weniger um diese Statusbildung, sondern vielmehr um die Werthaltigkeit. Um das, was tatsächlich an Wert im Objekt im Sinne von Langlebigkeit steckt. Aber auch, ob es ein krisenfähiger Wertespeicher ist, der sich nicht verändert, wenn die Welt rund herum Schwankungen unterworfen ist. Und damit wären wir auch bei der zweiten Funktion von Luxus, dem Zufriedenstellen des eigenen ästhetischen Empfindens sowie die Befriedigung, zu denken und zu handeln wie jemand, der tatsächlich verantwortungsvoll ist. Als ich an dem Buch gearbeitet habe, habe ich das gar nicht wahrgenommen. Vielmehr habe ich das als Feedback bekommen.

IF: Welche neuen Erkenntnisse haben Sie noch gewinnen können?

Pricken: Es mag jetzt verrückt klingen, aber bei hochwertigen, nachhaltigen Produkten geht es auch um das Sterben. Um Unsterblichkeit zu erlangen, gibt es einige Möglichkeiten. Zum Beispiel Kinder oder das große Werk, sei es in Form eines Kunstwerkes oder eines Unternehmens. Ich glaube aber, dass es noch eine andere Möglichkeit gibt.

Und die bezieht sich auf Objekte, die wir hinterlassen. Wenn man sich mit Objekten umgibt, die keine Werthaltigkeit besitzen, das heißt, die Menschen nicht wertvoll genug erscheinen, um sie aufzubewahren oder sie zumindest zu verkaufen, bleibt von einem selbst relativ wenig übrig. Individualisierte, personalisierte, an den eigenen Geschmack angepasste Objekte, die sehr werthaltig und langlebig sind, landen sicherlich nicht auf dem Müll. Diese werden zumindest verkauft und wenn sie verrückt und wertvoll genug sind, landen sie im Museum. IF: Hier möchte ich gleich einmal einhaken. Zu diesem eben beschriebenen Konsumkreislauf haben Sie ja eine Alternative.

zen, Pflegen, Reparatur/Service, Nutzen und dann Vererben. Das ist ein Zyklus, der Ausdruck einer Lebenshaltung ist, nämlich in die Familie und in das nahe Umfeld hinein. Das würde ich auch für Möbel so sehen, denn diese haben nicht die starke Außenwirkung, um Status zu erzeugen, sondern sie wirken im innersten Kreis. Da muss man nicht blenden, aber man kann zum Ausdruck bringen, wofür man steht, nämlich für einen verantwortungsvollen, intelligenten Menschen.

IF: Kann man ein Produkt nachträglich mit Werten aufladen?

Pricken: Natürlich. Dazu schaut man sich anhand des Buches den gesamten Le-

benszyklus des Produktes an. Das beginnt bei der Gewinnung der Materialien, die man verarbeitet. Bleiben wir beim Thema Möbel.

Man könnte sich zum Beispiel überlegen, welche Faktoren die Holzgewinnung einzigartig machen. Man entwickelt sozusagen schon etwas beim Ursprung des Produkts, das erzählenswert ist und eine Einzigartigkeit erzeugt, denn die Einzigartigkeit erzeugt die Alleinstellung und die Alleinstellung, was erzählenswert ist.

Pricken: Dazu muss ich ein bisschen ausholen. Die vierte Dimension eines Produktes ist mit den Sinnen nicht unmittelbar erfahrbar. Dabei rückt die Funktionalität eines Produktes in den Hintergrund und die Bedeutungs- und Wertedimension nach vorne und wird zu eben dieser vierten Dimension.

Der 4D-Innovationsprozess hat den gesamten Lebenszyklus eines Produktes im Blick.

In einem Unternehmen könnte dies durch einen Innovationsbeauftragten der Fall sein.

Immer dann, wenn ein neues Produkt entsteht, muss dieser den 4D-Innovationsprozess zum Leben erwecken. Und zwar, indem er im Laufe des gesamten Entste-

IF: Eine Frage noch zum Schluss: Das klingt alles sehr einleuchtend. Ich kaufe mir das Buch und schaue, welche Parameter ich auf meine Produkte übertragen kann und schon ist es wertvoll …

Pricken: Ganz so einfach ist es natürlich nicht. Die Parameter geben einen Anhaltspunkt, in welche Richtung man überhaupt einmal Fragen stellen könnte. Diese müssen dann allerdings mit kreativen Ideen beantwortet werden. Auf diese Weise lässt sich Neues erzeugen, das für eine Geschichte aus dem Produkt heraus sorgt, die erzählenswert ist. Und damit schließt sich der Kreis wieder.

IF: Herr Pricken, herzlichen Dank für das Gespräch.

What makes a product, an object, or an event valuable? Why are people willing to pay a lot of money for designer furniture, a work of art, a car, or a service? Those were the questions Mario Pricken asked himself and wrote a book about: “The Essence of Value.” In his search for answers, the bestselling author, who has worked in creative industries for over 17 years and advises international corporations, design companies, well-known agencies, and television stations on creativity strategies and innovation, carefully analyzed the entire product cycle of more than 300 products, objects, and events. He came up with 80 parameters that can be identified in valuable products, objects, or events. They include elements such as creation myths, uniqueness, scarcity, or the influence of time.

InteriorFashion talked to Mario Pricken about his book. To simplify matters, the following refers only to products.

IF: Mr. Pricken, how did the idea for the book come about?

Mario Pricken: As part of my work, I have been organizing innovation workshops and creativity training programs for 14 years.

We always place value on practical experience and work with current projects or the tasks of companies or advertising agencies.

In the past years, we have noticed that many products or objects have a big problem: They lack a USP and singularity. The actual catalyst was a trip to Asia, where I observed a Buddhist ceremony. Seeing it from a cultural distance, it was a riddle to me how a piece of wood, which was, of course, the statue of a saint, could be revered so much. With that impulse, I came back and tried to find out what makes objects valuable from a monetary perspective.

In the available literature, I could not find any conclusive answers. And then I did what I always do when I don’t get answers to my questions: I answer them myself. By the way, that is the way my other books came into being as well.

IF: How did you proceed?

Pricken: For one thing, I tried to be thorough. I wanted a collection without omis-

sions. And I looked at and analyzed the entire life cycle of the individual products, objects, and events from their creation to their end.

IF: When is a product valuable?

Pricken: Basic principle number one is: What is valuable leads, it does not copy.

Luxury and premium always mean being a leader in certain areas. It is not the amount of something that counts, but rather the quality.

Furthermore: Valuable things are always rare. That is true across cultures all over the world. So it is always important to limit the production numbers, with limited editions or special models, for example.

IF: Doesn’t that often conflict with our current economic system with constantly rising sales figures and sales growth?

Pricken: That is indeed a problem. Lots of companies in the luxury sector, which were founded by enthusiastic people, have been sold to large corporations. Now they are on the stock market and have to show growth every quarter. And that is a paradox in itself that cannot be solved.

IF: In your book, you mention the creation

myth as the first value parameter. What do you mean by that and what importance is attached to it?

Pricken: Let’s take a look at the creation myth of the Coco Channel label. Before she was really successful, she brought out several collections that failed. Those are stories that people tell each other. In today’s mass markets, we are all looking for something authentic, for something with roots. Products that have a creation myth, that are authentic, that carry a history with them and can tell us about it are valuable products.

Then there is no need for advertising agencies that have to invent a history either.

I believe that invented stories found in advertising versus authentic stories is a very big topic. Today it is certainly possible to find out where a product was made and under what conditions, with what materials – and even who might have suffered from the production. Many companies have to hide the origin of a product in particular. In contrast, the Austrian chocolate producer Zotter handles that in a completely different way. It is so proud of the origin of its raw materials that it talks about them constantly.

And there are regular factory tours. They are real events with a lot of participants.

When people think and act that way, stories are created that seem worth telling because they come from the product itself. Then no young creative types are needed to invent anything. The majority of advertising tells stories that are far-fetched and have nothing to do with the product. And people are rather tired of that.

IF: What exactly is the function of luxury?

Pricken: I differentiate between bling-bling luxury and luxury in the sense of intrinsic value, meaning that there is measurable value in the product itself. The most important function of luxury or premium products in general is creating status. When people come together in a group of more than four persons, group dynamics come into play and create hierarchies. So symbols are needed to define them.

But for me, the creation of status is not so important for discussion. I am much more concerned with intrinsic value. With the actual value that is in an object in the sense of longevity. But also with the question of whether that value is crisis-proof so that it will not change if the world around it goes through fluctuations. And that brings us to the second function of luxury, the satisfaction of one’s own aesthetic sensitivities and the gratification of thinking and acting like someone who is really responsible. While I was working on the book, I didn’t realize that yet. In fact, I learned it from the feedback I received.

IF: What new insights have you been able to gain?

Pricken: It might sound crazy, but premium, sustainable products also have something to do with dying. There are a few possibilities to attain immortality. For example children or a great work, whether a work of art or a company. But I believe there is another possibility. And that it has to do with the ob-

jects we leave behind. If a person surrounds himself or herself with objects that have no value, meaning they do not seem valuable enough for people to keep or at least sell, then there is relatively little that remains of that person. Individualized, personalized objects that have been adapted to meet a certain taste, that are very valuable and durable, will certainly not land in the trash.

They will at least be sold, and if they are crazy and valuable enough, they will land in a museum. In any case, they will remain connected to a name and a person, so something will remain of that person. And that, of course, is completely in contrast to the current consumption cycle of buying, using, throwing away.

IF: I would like to cut in here. You have an alternative to the consumption cycle you have just described.

Pricken: That is true. This is what I suggest we do with products: select, explore, order, wait, buy, use, care for, repair/service, use, and then pass them on. That cycle is an expression of a standard of living in a family and its immediate environments. I would also see it that way for furniture, because it does not have the strong outer effect of creating status, but rather works in the inner circle. You don’t have to dazzle, but you can express what you stand for – a responsible, intelligent person.

USP makes something worth telling about.

IF: In your book, you talk about the 4D innovation process. Please explain it to us.

Pricken: To do so, I have to go into a little more detail. The fourth dimension of a product cannot be immediately experienced through the senses. The functionality of the product recedes into the background and there is more focus on the dimension of meaning and value, which becomes that fourth dimension. The 4D innovation process has the entire life cycle of a product in view. In a company, that could be the job of an innovation agent. Whenever a new product is developed, that agent would have to start the 4D innovation process. And he or she would do that by asking one key ques-

tion at every step of the entire development and production process: Does this create value? And if that isn’t the case, the next question is: What has to be done in order to create value? That doesn’t have to be everywhere and all the time, of course, but it is interesting to ask that question in terms of creativity and innovation. In that way, you can always stay on the ball and discover chances and possibilities again and again.

IF: One last question: That all sounds very plausible. I buy the book and look to see what parameters I can transfer to my product and it becomes valuable …

Pricken: Of course it is not quite that simple. The parameters give an indication of the direction, in which questions could be asked. But the questions have to be answered with creative ideas. In that way, something new can be created that provides a story that is worth telling that comes from the product. And with that, we have come full circle again.

Von Blumen, Farben und Sofas Blickt man hinter die Kulissen der Marke „Nichetto“, eröffnet sich einem ein vielschichtiger und hochinteressanter Design- und Entstehungsprozess, der eine Geschichte über Blumen, Farben, Formen und Bilder erzählt. Luca Nichetto hat die Farben für sein Projekt direkt aus der Natur genommen. „Das ist fast zufällig passiert, aber es war die perfekte Lösung, weil unser Planet der beste Designer ist“, erzählt Nichetto. „Was ich als Startpunkt erreichen wollte, war ein Farbsystem, das nicht von den Launen der Mode beeinflusst wird. Wenn man Farben wählt, nur weil sie cool sind, werden sie innerhalb kurzer Zeit passé. Stattdessen war es mein Ziel, einen Designprozess zu entwickeln, bei dem die Möbel und die Farbpalette nicht einzeln betrachtet werden, sondern als zwei Teile desselben Projektes. Ich stellte mir also am Anfang die Frage: „Wie will ich mein Produkt bildlich kommunizieren? “ Wir leben in einer Welt, die visuell getrieben ist – denken Sie nur an soziale Medien – und ich konnte diesen Aspekt nicht dem Zufall überlassen. Also bat ich in einem Brief einen Freund von mir, den Fotografen Massimo Gardone, mir damit zu helfen. Das Wesentliche war, eine Palette zu finden, die möglicherweise ewig dauern würde, und über Farbkombinationen nachzudenken, die am besten innerhalb dieser Palette funktionieren würden.“

Bei seinem „Heimspiel“ in Mailand war der italienische Designer mit verschiedensten Produkten und Ausstellungen sowohl auf dem Salone als auch in der Stadt vielfach präsent.

InteriorFashion traf ihn am Design-Hotspot Spazio Rossana Orlandi bei seiner Ausstellung „Col-our“, die die Entstehungsgeschichte seines neuen, eigenen Interior-Labels „Nichetto“ erzählte.

Und diese Geschichte ist wahrlich eine Besondere – die letztendlich auch die Aura der Marke ausmacht.

Massimo Gardone hatte nicht nur eine Lösung für seinen Freund, sondern sogar eine ganz besondere. „Er brachte mir sein Herbarium, im Grunde genommen ein Buch, in dem er seit 25 Jahren Blumen und Blätter gesammelt und nach Herkunftsgebieten eingeteilt hatte“, erzählt Nichetto lachend. „Es enthielt die besten Farbverbindungen, die Sie sich jemals vorstellen können.“ Aus diesem Herbarium entwickelte Luca Nichetto zusammen mit den Farbexperten von NCS Colour die Farbpalette seiner Kollektion. „Die Farben, da sie aus der Natur kommen, haben eine universelle Qualität, die überall auf der Welt wirken kann“, so Nichetto. „Wir teilten sie in drei Kategorien ein, die immer miteinander kombiniert werden können: warme, kalte und neutrale. Und dann fingen wir an, die Farbpalette auf die Materialien aufzutragen – wie Holz, Textilien und Marmor. Das Ergebnis war imponierend. Und jetzt wurde es Realität.“ Nichetto – Die Marke wurde erstmals im Januar auf der Pariser Maison & Objet einem breiten Publikum präsentiert. Die zehn Möbelstücke umfassende Interior-Design-Kollektion realisierte Luca Nichetto zusammen mit dem portugiesischen Hersteller De La Espada. Stuhl „Elysia“, Sofa „Stanley“, Beistell-/Couchtisch „Laurel“, Bett „Dubois“, Sessel „Bergère Blanche“, Schreibtisch „Harold“, Stuhl „Vivien“, Tisch „Marlon“ und Modulschrank „Mitch“ sind inspiriert von der amerikanischen Innenarchitektur der 1950er-Jahre, vom skandinavischem Design und der italienischen Postmoderne. Jedes einzelne Stück besticht durch seine klassische Ästhetik und versteckten Luxus. Ob als Solitär oder in Kombination mit anderen Möbeln oder als stimmige Gesamtkollektion – die Möbel strahlen etwas Besonderes aus. Sie erzählen eine Geschichte.

On flowers, colors, and sofas – Luca Nichetto is a big topic of discussion right now. On his “home turf” in Milan, the Italian designer was present in a lot of places with various products and exhibitions both at the Salone and in the city. InteriorFashion met him at the design hot spot Spazio Rossana Orlandi at his “Col-our” exhibition, which told the story of how his own new “Nichetto” interior label came into being. And that story is really something special – and ultimately accounts for the aura of the brand.

A look behind the scenes at the “Nichetto” brand reveals a complex and very interesting design and development process that tells a story about flowers, colours, shapes, and images. Luca Nichetto took the colors for his project directly from nature. “That happened almost by chance, but it was the perfect solution, because our planet is the best designer,” says Nichetto. “What I wanted to achieve as a starting point was a system of colours that is not susceptible to the whims of fashion. If you choose colours just because they are cool, they become passé within a short time. Instead, my ambition was to create a design process whereby the furniture and the colour palette are considered not separately but rather as two integral parts of a single project. So in the beginning, I asked myself the question: “How do I want to communicate my product in terms of images?” We live in a world that is visually driven – just think of social media – and I couldn´t leave this aspect to chance. So in a letter I asked a friend of mine,

The crucial point was to find a palette that would possibly last forever, as well as to think about colour combinations that would work best within that palette.“ Not only did Massimo Gardone have a solution for his friend – it was a very special one. “He brought me his Herbarium – a book basically – where for 25 years he had been collecting flowers and leaves, classified according to their provenance,” says Nichetto with a laugh. “It contained the best colour combinations you could ever imagine.” Using the Herbarium, Luca Nichetto worked with the colour experts at NCS Colour to develop the colour palette for his collection. “Because they come from nature, the colours have a universal quality that can work all over the world,” says Nichetto.

“We divided them into three different categories that can always be combined together: warm, cold, and neutral. And we started to apply this palette to the materials – such as wood, fabric and

marble. The result was impressive. And now it has become reality.”

Nichetto – The brand was presented to a wide audience for the first time in January at the Maison & Objet in Paris. The ten pieces of furniture in the interior design collection are the result of a collaboration between Luca Nichetto and the Portuguese producer De La Espada. The “Elysia” chair, “Stanley” sofa, “Laurel” accessory/couch table, “Dubois” bed, “Bergère Blanche” armchair, “Harold” desk, “Vivien” chair, “Marlon” table, and “Mitch” modular cabinet were inspired by the American interior architecture of the 1950s, by Scandinavian design, and by the Italian postmodern style. Each piece stands out with classical aesthetics and concealed luxury. Whether as stand-alone pieces or in combination with other furniture or as a harmonious complete collection – the furniture has a special charisma. It tells a story. Mailand mit allen Sinnen Zum bereits 54. Mal verwandelte sich in diesem Jahr vom 14. bis 19. April das Mailänder Messegelände zu einer Bühne für die neuesten Kreationen der Möbelbranche. 2.106 Aussteller und 700 junge Designer präsentierten auf 201.700 qm die

aktuellen Trends – unterteilt in die Bereiche Design-, Moderne und Klassik-Möbel, Beleuchtung, Büromöblierung und Nachwuchsdesign. Insgesamt zählten die Messeverantwortlichen 310.480 Fachbesucher – ein leichtes Minus im Vergleich zum Jahr 2013, in dem der Salone del Mobile das letzte Mal mit der internationalen Beleuchtungsmesse, Euroluce, und der Messe für Arbeitsambiente, Workplace 3.0/Salone Uffizio, abgehalten wurde. Zahlreiche Sonderschauen – sowohl das von der Unesco ausgelobte Jahr des Lichts 2015 betreffend als auch die anstehende EXPO 2015 in Mailand thematisierend – bereicherten auch in diesem Jahr das Messegelände. Auch auf den Ständen der Aussteller war zu beobachten, dass vermehrt Themen aus globaler Politik, Umwelt und dem aktuellen Geschehen zu neuen Entwürfen inspirierten. Milan for all the senses – For the 54th time already, the Milan trade fair grounds were transformed into a stage for the latest creations in the furniture sector from the 14th till the 19th of April. 2,106 exhibitors and 700 young designers presented the latest trends on an area of 201,700 sqm - divided into the areas of designer, modern, and classical furniture, lighting, office furniture, and the work of young designers. A total of 310,480 trade visitors were counted at the trade fair – a slightly lower number than in the year 2013, in which the Salone del Mobile last took place together with the Euroluce international lighting trade fair and the Workplace 3.0/Salone Uffizio trade fair. A lot of special exhibits – with themes connected with both the Year of Light 2015, announced by UNESCO, and the upcoming EXPO 2015 in Milan – enhanced the trade fair grounds again this year. SPAZIO ROSANNA ORLANDI Inspiration pur – Als Mailänder Urgestein und Designikone gefeiert, öffnete Rossana Orlandi auch in diesem Jahr ihren beliebten „Spazio Rossana Orlandi“ und bot damit sowohl etablierten Design-Größen wie Luca Nichetto, aber auch jungen Künstlern und Nachwuchs-Designern einen mehr als gebührenden Rahmen für neue Produktideen. Besucher des zunächst unscheinbaren Innen- und Hinterhofes erwarteten Inszenierungen wie aus einer anderen Welt. Alles Erdenkliche und Unvorstellbare – von einer lebensgroßen, weiß bemalten GorillaGestalt, die von kleinen „Licht-Äffchen“ umringt ist, bis hin zu exquisiten, schlichten Porzellanarbeiten – konnten Interessierte, Schaulustige und Designbegeisterte im Spazio Rossana Orlandi finden. Auch Design-Hochschulen und aufstrebende, junge Marken fanden hier nicht nur ein Ausstellungsareal, sondern auch das begehrte Messepublikum, das sich im und um den Mailänder Hot-Spot tummelte.

Pure inspiration – Celebrated as a Milan institution and design icon, Rossana Orlandi opened her popular “Spazio Rossana Orlandi” again this year and provided a more than befitting setting for new product ideas, not only from well-known established designers such as Luca Nichetto, but also from young artists and designers. Visitors to the initially unimposing inner and rear court-yards discovered presentations that seemed to come from another world. Anything imaginable or unthinkable – from a lifesize gorilla figure that was painted white and surrounded by small “light monkeys” to exquisite unadorned works of porcelain – could be found by interested and curious visitors and fans of design in Spazio Rossana Orlandi. And design universities and dynamic young brands found not only an exhibition area there, but also the desired trade fair public that was roaming in and around the Milan hot spot. Japanische „Soul of Motion“ – Liebhaber von reduziertem, japanischem Design, von puristischen Schönheiten, die Ästhetik, Bewegung und Präzision kombinieren, kamen im jüngst eröffneten Mazda Design Space im Szeneviertel Brera voll auf ihre Kosten. Dort präsentierte Mazda mit dem Designer-Fahrrad und dem Designer-Sofa zwei besondere Kreationen, die die Designsprache „KODO – Soul of Motion“ des Automobilherstellers ebenso wie die brandneuen Modelle Mazda CX-3 und Mazda MX-5 verkörpern. Darüber hinaus wurden von KODO inspirierte Arbeiten und Accessoires japanischer Meisterkünstler gezeigt, die in Form und Material überraschten.

Japanese “Soul of Motion” – Fans of minimalist Japanese design, of purist beauty that combines aesthetics, movement, and precision, were really able to enjoy the recently opened Mazda Design Space in the trendy Brera district.

There, Mazda presented a designer bicycle and a designer sofa, two special creations that embody the automobile manufacturer’s “KODO – Soul of Motion” design style just like the brand new Mazda CX-3 and Mazda MX-5 models.

Die beiden Schwestern Annica und Marie Eklund treiben ihr schwedisches Designunternehmen Bolon weiter voran: Nach dem erfolgreichen Start einer Kooperation mit der italienischen Modemarke Missoni im Jahr 2012, entwickelten die kreativen Köpfe hinter den Unternehmen für dieses Jahr die zwei neuen Muster „ZigZag“ und „Flame Patch“. Hinzu kommt eine neue Kollektion mit einer absoluten Novität in puncto Recycling: „Flow“, dessen Name sich an die sanften Bewegungen des Meeres anlehnt, besteht zu 33 Prozent aus wiederverwerteten Werkstoffen. Dank der neuen, zusätzlichen Fliesenform „Scale“, deren organische Formgebung an eine Muschel erinnert, eröffnen sich mit der Kollektion zudem ganz neue Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten. „Flow“ ist somit nicht nur das kreative Ergebnis eines Designprozesses, für die Herstellung der neuen Kollektion investierte Bolon außerdem 10 Mio. Euro in eine neue Produktionsanlage, die das Unternehmen weiter in Richtung „Zukunft ohne ökologischen Fußabdruck“ bringt.

Thanks to the additional new “Scale” tile form, whose organic shape reminds the viewer of a shell, the collection opens up completely new design possibilities.

Der Auftrag: das Solid-Surface-Material „Hi-Macs“ von LG Hausys, das in jede beliebige Form gebracht werden kann, in Szene zu setzen. Das Ergebnis: riesige ornamentale Kunstwerke, die den Betrachter in einem Raum voller Fantasie und Überraschungen in ihren Bann zogen und die unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten dieses Materials in einem fast magischen Spiel aus Farben und Formen vor Augen führten.

Neben etablierten Designern, Herstellern und Traditionsunternehmen wie Bene, BraunLockenhaus, Conform Badmöbel, Haapo, Joka, Team 7, Viteo, Wittmann und Wiesner-Hagner waren erstmals auch Studentenprojekte mit dabei und bildeten die ganze Kreativszene Österreichs ab. Gestaltet und kuratiert wurde der starke Auftritt der Österreicher vom Wiener Architekturbüro Vasku & Klug.

2015 wurde von der UNESCO zum „Internationalen Jahr des Lichts“ proklamiert. 2015 war auch das Jahr der Euroluce. Auf dem Mailänder Messegelände in Rho zeigten 475 Aussteller auf 38.000 qm ihre Innovationen. Aber nicht nur dort gab es einige Neuheiten zu entdecken.

2015 has been proclaimed the “International Year of Light” by UNESCO. 2015 was also the year of Euroluce. At the Milan trade fair grounds in Rho, 475 exhibitors presented their innovations on an area of 38,000 sqm. And not only there could new products be discovered.

Zum „Internationalen Jahr des Lichts“ hat die englische Lichtkünstlerin Liz West in der Castlefield Gallery in Manchester eine beeindruckende Installation geschaffen. Mit „your colour perception“ sollten der Einfluss und die Wahrnehmung von Lichtfarbe im architektonischen Raum erforscht werden. Auf einer Fläche von 500 qm illuminierten mit Farbfiltern versehene T8-Leuchtstofflampen den Raum. Der Farbverlauf von leuchtendem Blau hin zum intensiven Pink-Rot ließ die Besucher in ein Erinnerungen weckendes Licht-Erlebnis eintauchen.

„Set“ erweitert das „Wall Arts“-Konzept des spanischen Unternehmens Vibia. Dieses kleidet Wände in individuell anpassbare Kompositionen von Lichtelementen. Belohnt wurden die Geschäftsführer Kai Steffens und Christian Dinow bereits unter anderem mit einem red dot award (2010) und der Nominierung zum Designpreis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Der Firmenname less‘n‘more – weniger ist mehr – ist Programm: Die Produkte sind ganzheitlich durchdacht und auf das Wesentliche reduziert. So auch bei der „Ylux“-Leuchte. Der patentierte Kopf ist aus massivem Aluminium und leitet die entstehende Wärme optimal ab. Ebenfalls patentiert ist das Fokussystem, das eine stufenlose Einstellung von 300 bis 100 Grad ermöglicht. Gefertigt werden alle Produkte des Unternehmens in Handarbeit in Puhlheim bei Köln.

Den German Design Award 2015 hat das noch junge Karlsruher Unternehmen Nyta für seine Pendelleuchte „Tils“ erhalten. Das prägnante Gestaltungsmerkmal ist ein verstellbarer Schirm, der sich einer klassischen Formensprache bedient. Er lässt sich in alle Richtungen schwenken und drehen, wobei eine selbst-fixierende Aufhängung für festen Halt sorgt. Designer Simon Micheli kreierte für Terzani die Leuchte „Doodle“. Sie drückt die Dynamik der heutigen Generation aus: Die Wege der Menschen sind ein Geflecht aus Beziehungen, Erfahrungen und Reisen. Jede einzelne Hänge-Leuchte wird per Hand willkürlich angeordnet, wobei die LED-Lampe flexibel platziert werden kann.

Die Pendelleuchte „Nebra“ von Sebastian Herkner für Fontanaarte nutzt das Potenzial von LED und reduziert die Dimension der Lichtquelle. Der Diffusor besteht aus gepresstem Glas, wobei das zusammengedrückte Volumen den Bau großer und malerischer Kompositionen möglich macht.

Eine Idee, 800 weiße Kunststoffeimer mit 20.500 gebohrten Montagelöchern, 6.180 Meter Kabel, 2.160 LEDs mit Lichtwiedergabe in 256.000 Farben und Farbnuancen: Das sind die harten Fakten der Luctra-Lichtinstallation im Rahmen der Milan Design Week. Die unterschiedlichen Lichtfarben machten einen Tagesablauf von Sonnenauf- bis -untergang mit typischen Alltags- und Straßenszenen sowie verschiedenen Wetterlagen emotional erleb- und fühlbar. Konzipiert und durchgeführt wurde die Installation von Durable in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Designbüro yellow design.

„Monument for a Bulb“ ist ein kleines, aber faszinierendes Lichtobjekt von Ingo Maurer aus seiner „I Ricchi Poveri“-Kollektion – einer Gruppe einfacher, aber raffiniert handgefertigter Lichtobjekte. Es wirkt wie ein Miniaturmodell für ein riesiges Glühbirnen-Denkmal. Acht Figuren stehen auf der Metallplatte um das „Denkmal“. Die Niedervolt-Halogenglühlampe ist auf schlichten Stäben aus Messing horizontal aufgebockt.

Edle Wandbekleidungen, ausgewählte Bezugsmaterialien, feine Dekorationsstoffe und zahlreiche Trends und News aus der Textilbranche gab es auch in diesem Jahr in der bayerischen Landeshauptstadt zu entdecken, als der Münchner Stoff Frühling vom 20. bis 23. März erneut dem interessierten Fachpublikum die Pforten der Showrooms und Ausstellungsflächen renommierter Editeure öffnete.

Mit der Ankündigung eines neuen Konzeptes und besonderer Rahmenveranstaltungen machten die Veranstalter bereits im Vorfeld auf das Messe-Event neugierig. So sollten in diesem Jahr erstmals die angrenzenden Branchen Bodengestaltung, Mode und Mobilität mit einbezogen werden. Dem hohen Anspruch und den gespannten Erwartungen der Besucher wurde das Format Münchner Stoff Frühling aber auch mit der Edition 2015 mehr als gerecht. Denn die neue, zentrale Location – der BMW GlasPavillion am Münchner Lenbachplatz – bot nicht nur Platz für die Ausstellungen der diesjährigen Sponsoren, wie zum Beispiel der renommierten Teppichhersteller Tai Ping und Ruckstuhl, sondern auch für inspirierende Beiträge der Münchner Modeschule sowie informative Vorträge und Podiumsdiskussionen. Einblicke in den „neuen“ Münchner Stoff Frühling sowie die textilen Highlights der Saison liefern Ihnen die folgenden Seiten.

and exhibition areas of renowned editeurs to interested trade visitors from the 20th till the 23rd of March. With the announcement of a new concept and a special program of events, the organizers aroused curiosity in advance of the trade fair event.

This year, for example, the related sectors of floor design, fashion, and mobility were included for the first time. And the Münchner Stoff Frühling format was able to meet and exceed the high standards and expectations of the visitors once again with its 2015 edition. The new central location – the BMW glass pavilion on Lenbachplatz in Munich – provided space not only for the exhibitions of this year’s sponsors, such as the well-known carpet makers Tai Ping and Ruckstuhl, for example, but also for inspiring contributions from the Munich school of fashion as well as informative presentations and podium discussions. The following pages give you a look at the “new” Münchner Stoff Frühling and the textile highlights for the season.

[interior ] Klassisch – Dick und dünn ziehen sich Streifen über die Tapete „Tailor Stripes“. Little Greene zitiert hier das legendäre Streifenmuster, mit dem der britische Mode-Designer Paul Smith in den Seventies bekannt wurde. Entstanden sind aufregende Farbkombinationen für die Wand: sechs Streifen, die miteinander kombiniert eine attraktive, frische Dynamik erzeugen. Die erdigen Töne harmonieren perfekt mit Gelb und Türkis. In weiteren Farbkombinationen erhältlich.

Farbenfroh – Die Kollektion „Calicut“ wurde schon 1967 entwickelt und fungiert seitdem quasi als Synonym für Ruckstuhl. Jetzt bietet die Schweizer Teppichmanufaktur den Klassiker in vier neuen, kräftigen Farben an: Orange, Rost, Granit und Senfgelb.

Der mit Sisal veredelte Kokosteppich war ursprünglich ausgelegt für den Wohnbereich, ist aber auch einsetzbar im Objektbereich. Neben den regulären Rechteckzuschnitten gibt es nun auch runde und ovale Formen; die akzentuierenden Bordüren aus Leder oder Leinen werden ergänzt von einer handwerklich perfekt ausgestalteten „falschen Webkante“.

Colorful – The “Calicut” collection was already developed in 1967 and has functioned more or less as a synonym for Ruckstuhl since then. Now the Swiss carpet manufacturer is offering the classic in four new, intensive colors: orange, rust, granite, and mustard yellow.

Facettenreich – Der extravagante Stoff „Eprisma“ von Création Baumann wirkt wie eine Skulptur am Fenster: Sein geometrisches Paillettenkleid schimmert mal weiß, mal bronzefarben, mal schwarz. Auf dem halbtransparenten Stoff sind schillernde, pyramidenartige Dreiecke dicht an dicht streng geometrisch appliziert. Die Pailletten-Folie wurde dabei dreidimensional geformt und abgesteppt. Die Dreidimensionalität sorgt für Tiefenwirkung, das facettenreiche Lichtspiel ändert sich je nach Sonneneinfall.

Multifaceted – The extravagant “Eprisma” fabric from Création Baumann has a sculptural look at the window: Its geometric sequin cover shimmers in white, bronze, or black. Repräsentativ – Die Kollektion „Luxury Life“ von Nya Nordiska macht ihrem Namen alle Ehre, denn sie gibt Räumen einen repräsentativen Charakter. Starke optische Reize verbinden sich stilsicher mit minimalistischen Dessins. Klassische, imperiale Farben paaren sich mit Edelmetalltönen. Und die Opulenz der Materialien aus hochwertigen Hightech-Garnen kontrastiert perfekt mit den elegant schlichten Dessins. Ein Hauch von Patina gibt der Kollektion das gewisse Etwas.

Blaumachen – Worauf das Fachpublikum der Textil-Messen zum Jahresbeginn noch verhalten reagiert hat, bestätigen spätestens die Produkthighlights der Mailänder Möbelmesse ebenso wie die Aussteller des Münchner Stoff Frühlings: Blaunuancen feiern 2015 ihr Comeback. So auch bei dem Nürnberger Textil-Verlag Sahco mit der aktuellen Kolletion „Into the Blue“. Inspiriert durch den intensiven Farbton Indigo erfrischen die Bezugs- und Dekorationsstoffe mit teils japanischen anmutenden Dessins. Ergänzt wird das asiatische Flair mit der Vliestapete Fuji aus der 5. Edition der Sahco Fine Wallcoverings.

Naturnah – Naturmaterialien erfreuen sich wachsender Beliebtheit – dabei zählen Textilien aus Leinen als ein Favorit und häufig verarbeitetes Bezugsmaterial. Bei den Stoffen von Romo, eine Marke der englischen Romo Group, verbindet sich der Natur-Trend mit einer weiteren Strömung. Denn die aktuelle Tendenz zu Pastelltönen zeigt sich in der neuen Kollektion „Romo Launay“, die Textilien aus 100% Leinen im Farbspektrum von Zartrosé bis Vanillegelb beinhaltet.

Close to nature – Natural materials are becoming increasingly popular – textiles made of linen are favorites and used often for covers, for example. The fabrics from Romo, a brand in the English Romo Group, combine the natural trend with the current tendency towards pastel colors. That can be seen in the new “Romo Launay” collection, which includes textiles made of 100% linen in a range of colors from delicate pink to vanilla yellow.

Into the blue – At the textile fairs that started off the year, trade visitors were still somewhat restrained about it, but now the product highlights at the Milan furniture fair as well as the exhibitors at the Münchner Stoff Frühling have confirmed it: Shades of blue are celebrating a comeback in 2015. For example at the Sahco textile company in Nuremberg with its latest collection “Into the Blue.” Inspired by the intensive indigo color, cover and decoration fabrics, some with Japanese-looking designs, are refreshing. The Asian flair is complemented by the Fuji non-woven wallpaper from the 5th edition of Sahco Fine Wallcoverings.

Plastisch – Die neueste Teppich-Kollektion von Tai Ping ist aus einer Zusammenarbeit mit der in China geborenen Modedesignerin Han Feng erwachsen. Im Zeichen der Verwandlung Mit einer aufmerksamkeitsstarken Präsentation und einer außergewöhnlichen Inszenierung feierte die renommierte italienische Marke Alcantara die DeutschlandPremiere ihrer neuen Kollektion „Metamorphosis“. „Metamorphosis“ – das aus dem Griechischen stammende Wort für Verwandlung und Umgestaltung benennt nicht nur die aktuelle Alcantara-Interior-Kollektion, der Name ist Programm. Denn bei der Deutschland-Premiere am 20. März verwandelte sich auch der Münchner Szene-Club „Heart“ zur ungewöhnlichen Ausstellungsfläche der neuen, 14 Artikel umfassenden Kollektion. Gemeinsam mit dem Kulmbacher Textilverlag Saum & Viebahn, der den exklusiven

Distributionsvertrieb für den deutschen Interiormarkt übernommen hat, inszenierte das Unternehmen ein ganz spezielles Event.

Andrea Boragno, Chairman und CEO von Alcantara, offenbarte den Gästen höchstpersönlich die Neuheiten und feierte damit auch den Relaunch der renommierten Marke in Deutschland. „Wir sind stolz, mit dieser Kollektion erstmals von der Idee bis hin zum fertigen Produkt eine Linie umgesetzt zu haben, die unser Verständnis von Qualität widerspiegelt“, erklärte Andrea Boragno und stellte so das eigene Design-Team, das für die Kollektionsentwicklung verantwortlich zeichnete, in den Vordergrund.

Inspiriert wurden die kreativen Köpfe zum einen von Naturelementen, was sich besonders in der detailverliebten, grafischen Aufbereitung von „Metamorphosis“ äußert.

Zum anderen spielen Einflüsse aus der Welt der Herrenmode eine große Rolle – traditionelle Muster wie Karos, Streifen und Fisch-

grät wurden für die Kollektion neu interpretiert. Die Farbpalette reicht von kühlen Blau-, Grau- und Petroltönen bis hin zu warmen Orange-, Braun-, Beige- und Cremetönen, die mit leuchtenden, intensiven Magentaund Gelbtönen kombiniert werden. Dabei sind alle 14 Artikel „Made in Italy“ und werden von Alcantara „vom Konzept bis hin zur fertigen Kollektion“ komplett gesteuert, erklärt Andrea Boragno, und weist damit auch auf die zahlreichen Verarbeitungsmöglichkeiten hin, die Alcantara bietet – vom Druck, über Prägung, Laminieren bis hin zum Elektroschweißen. Somit stehen also nicht nur die neue Kollektion „Metamorphosis“, sondern auch die Wandelbarkeit von Alcantara selbst im Mittelpunkt. Signs of change – With a convincing presentation and an extraordinary staging, the renowned Italian brand Alcantara celebrated the German premiere of its new “Metamorphosis” collection.

“Metamorphosis” – the word of Greek origin that means change and transformation – is not just the name of the latest Alcantara interior collection; the name says it all. On the 20th of March, “Heart” – the in-club in Munich – was transformed into an extraordinary exhibition area for the German premiere of the 14 articles in the new collection. Together with Saum & Viebahn, the textile house in Kulmbach that is the exclusive distributor for the German interior market, the company staged a very special event.

Andrea Boragno, Chairman and CEO of Alcantara, personally presented the new products to the guests and celebrated the relaunch of the renowned brand in Germany at the same time. “We are proud that in this

collection we have created a line that reflects our understanding of quality from the idea to the finished product for the first time,” explained Andrea Boragno; he emphasized the work of the company’s design team, which was responsible for the development of the collection.

Those creative minds were inspired on the one hand by natural elements, which can be seen particularly in the graphic development of Metamorphosis and the attention to detail. On the other hand, influences from the world of men’s fashion play a big role – traditional patterns such as checks, stripes, and herringbone have been newly interpreted for the collection.

The color palette ranges from cool blue, gray, and teal shades to warm orange,

brown, beige, and cream colors, which are combined with bright, intense magenta and yellow. And all 14 articles are “Made in Italy” and “from concept to finished collection everything is developed under Alcantara supervision”, explained Andrea Boragno.

He also mentioned the many different processing possibilities that Alcantara offers – from printing to embossing and laminating to electric welding. Therefore, the focus is not only on the new “Metamorphosis” collection, but also on the transformability of Alcantara itself. Werner Aisslinger hat für Vorwerk flooring das Thema abgepasste Teppiche neu interpretiert. Entstanden sind die Freiformteppichinseln „Mito“ und „Leaf“. Die textile Haptik dieser Teppichinseln aus der Kollektion „Elementary Shapes“ lassen in einer kühlen Architektur Behaglichkeit, Wärme und Komfort entstehen. Bei „Mito“ und „Leaf“ findet der volumige Frisé-Teppichboden „Elara“ mit seiner Strukturoberfläche in Kombination mit Wollfilz einen neuen Kontext. Der sicht- und spürbare Höhenunterschied dieser zwei Materialien ergibt eine optische Segmentierung der Teppiche.

Besondere Aussagekraft entfalten die für Aisslinger typischen Farbkombinationen: Goldgelb kombiniert mit Nacht- und Himmelblau, Aqua zusammen mit Grau und leuchtend grünem Akzent, Beerentöne und Signalrot sowie Kiwigrün mit stahlgrauen Streifen.

Werner Aisslinger has interpreted the topic of rugs in a new way for Vorwerk flooring and created the free-form “Mito” and “Leaf” carpet islands. With their textile feel, these carpet islands from the “Elementary Shapes” collection bring coziness, warmth, and comfort to cool architecture. The elements constitute a new playing field for carpet zones and enhance areas in a targeted way. With “Mito” and “Leaf,” Aisslinger gives the rug a new look.

The “Mito” and “Leaf” free-form carpets are part of the “Elementary Shapes” collection. The roundly curved “Mito” triangle and “Leaf” with its corresponding shape emphasize islands in

public and commercial buildings and offer creative solutions for a pleasant interior atmosphere. Das „Haus im Park“ fügt sich als Mittelpunkt einer großflächigen Parkanlage mit seinen gebäudenahen Wasserflächen, sogenannten Himmelspiegeln, in die waldreiche und reliefartige Landschaft ein. Mit seiner großzügigen und ausladenden, gleichzeitig verschachtelten und mit Winkeln spielenden Aufteilung ist es seit mehreren Jahren das Zuhause einer viel reisenden Familie. Diese wünschte sich nun eine neue innenarchitektonische Interpretation, die das Bedürfnis nach Heimat stillt.

Eine eigene, individualisierte Form von Opulenz sollte mit der Vorliebe für traditionelle Stile definiert werden.

Das Innenarchitektur- und Architekturbüro Keggenhoff | Partner mit Sitz in Arnsberg-Neheim nahm diese Herausforderung an und es erfolgte eine umfangreiche Überarbeitung der bestehenden Raumstrukturen. Die Privat- und Funktionsbereiche siedeln sich damit um ein neues, inneres Zentrum an, das eine offene Formation aus Wohn- und Essbereich sowie dem Wintergarten bildet. Diese drei Räume werden zum wichtigsten Ansatz, um das Zuhause zu einem Ruhepol und behaglichen Rückzugsort zu machen; einen Ruhepol, den man dennoch gerne teilt. Der Wohnraum widmet sich ganz dem Miteinander am Feuer, während der Ess- und Wintergartenbereich den Bezug zum direkten Außenraum, das heißt zur Außenküche und den Himmelsspiegeln aufnimmt. Das Entree als essentielle räumliche Geste und Kern der offenen Formation wartet mit einer Installation aus smaragdfarbenen, mundgeblasenen Leuchtkörpern auf und bringt das Grün der umgebenden Landschaft in das Wohnzentrum.

Das Augenmerk des Betrachters ist im Rahmen dieses Projektes besonders auf die intensive Ausarbeitung des komplexen Detail-, Material- und Farbkonzeptes zu lenken: Behaglichkeit hat viele Facetten. Das Interieur kombiniert in seiner Gestaltsprache Experimentierfreudigkeit und Understatement, Luxus und Reduktion. Bei allen angewandten Materialien werden neben der visuellen Qualität gleichermaßen haptische Eigenschaften und die handwerkliche, manufakturartige Verarbeitung in den Fokus gerückt.

Höchste Qualität im Detail, Langlebigkeit und Patina sind das Maß der Dinge. Ein Kanon aus Farben und Strukturen gibt Tiefe, während neutrale, homogene Flächen immer wieder zu Gunsten der Gesamtkonzeption ausgleichen und den entsprechenden Raum für Kontraste und Akzentuierung bieten. Grauwacke, in seinem faszinierenden Farbspektrum von kühlem Graublau über verschiedene Nuancen bis hin zu warmen Rotbraun-Tönen, funktioniert als Basis, Innen- und auch den direkten Außenbereich fassend. Einzig die Küche löst sich aus dem Gesamtkonzept. Amethystfarben, hochglänzend, extravagant und überraschend zeugt sie von der Experimentierfreudigkeit des Auftraggebers.

Comfort has many facets – For the “Haus im Park,” Keggenhoff | Partner focuses on intensive development of complex detail, material, and color concepts The “Haus im Park” fits into the woody and relief-like landscape around it as the epicenter of a large-scale park with expanses of water near the buildings, so-called Himmelsspiegel – mirrors of the sky. With a spacious and inviting layout that is at the same time somewhat convoluted and plays with angles, it has been the home of a family that travels a lot for several years. That family wanted a new interpretation of the interior design, one that would satisfy the need for a feeling of home. A particular, individualized form of opulence was to be defined with a preference for traditional styles.

The Keggenhoff | Partner interior design architecture company with headquarters in Arnsberg-Neheim took on that challenge, and a comprehensive redesign of the existing interior structures was carried out. The private and functional areas have been set around a new inner center that is an open formation of living and dining area and a conservatory. These three rooms are the most important part of the concept that makes the home a qui-

et haven and a cozy place of retreat; a quiet haven that is meant to be shared. The living area lends itself to interaction in front of the fire, while the dining room and conservatory take up the connection to the area directly outside, i.e. the outdoor kitchen and the Himmelsspiegel. The entrance, a crucial spatial touch and the core of the open formation, presents an installation of emerald-colored blown glass light fixtures, bringing the green of the surrounding landscape into the living center.

As part of the project, the attention of the viewer is especially drawn towards the intense development of the complex detail, material, and color concepts: Comfort has many facets. In its design idiom, the interior combines the joy of experimentation and understatement, luxury and reduction. In all of the materials that are used, the focus has been placed not only on the visual quality, but also just as much on the haptic characteristics and the skillful hand craftsmanship.

standards. A canon of colors and structures provides depth, while neutral, homogenous areas give balance for the benefit of the overall concept and offer appropriate space for contrasts and accents. Greywacke, in a fascinating spectrum of colors that range from cool blue-gray all the way to warm red-brown shades, is used as a base and for the interior and for the area directly outside. Only the kitchen stands out as different from the overall concept. Eines der um 1900 entstandenen Industriegebäude im österreichischen Steyr wurde jetzt vom Linzer Architekturbüro architektur-idee für eine Mischnutzung umgebaut: Neben einer Firma beherbergt das Gebäude heute auch Schulungsräume und Verwaltungsbüros. „Wichtig war uns, die wunderbare Bausubstanz mit ihrem alten Charme herauszuarbeiten. Wir haben das Gebäude von diversen Einbauten der letzten Jahrzehnte befreit und die alte Industriearchitektur auf ihren Originalzustand zurückgebaut“, berichtet Architekt Jürgen Hager.

Bei den Schulungsräumen wurde ganz bewusst darauf geachtet, schöne Räumlichkeiten zu schaffen, um eine angenehme Lernatmosphäre zu erreichen. „Aus diesem Grund haben wir auch einen eleganten Designboden in rustikaler, dunkler Pinien-Optik von Armstrong gewählt“, so Hager. Die Parkett-Anmutung der „Scala“-Designfliesen wirkt edel und hochwertig, zugleich ist der Vinyl-Belag aber deutlich robuster und pflegeleichter als ein Parkettboden.

Ganz im Stil eines gehobenen Private Member Clubs: Der von den Hamburger Innenarchitekten Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk und Peter Joehnk (JOI-Design) umgebaute Lounge-Bereich der O2 World Berlin belegt den dritten Platz bei den diesjährigen International Design Awards in der Kategorie „Interior Design-Renovation“. Aus ehemals vier kleinen Entertainment-Suiten kreierten die Innenarchitekten eine großzügig angelegte Premium-Area im intimen Club-Flair. Die Lounge „Diamond Ball.Room“ präsentiert sich jetzt in einem gekonnten Mix aus edlem Gold, strahlendem Silber und dunklen, vornehmen BraunNuancen. Dezentes, indirektes Licht, hochwertige Materialien wie exquisites Leder, dunkles Holz und gepolsterte Lounge-Möbel versprechen den Gästen ein Konzerterlebnis der Extraklasse.

Darüber hinaus erhielt das Interior Design des ebenfalls von JOI-Design gestalteten Luxushotels JW Marriott Cannes in der Rubrik „Renovation Pro“ die „Honorable Mention Price“-Auszeichnung. Das 5-Sterne-Hotel stellten wir in der letzten Ausgabe von InteriorFashion bereits ausführlich vor.

Pedrali richtet die NestléFirmenzentrale ein Pedrali, die italienische Designmöbelmanufaktur mit Sitz in Bergamo, war maßgeblicher Partner bei der Innenraumgestaltung des neu eröffneten Nestlé Headquarters in Assago.

Mit den Tischen und Sitzmöbeln von Pedrali gelang es den Gestaltern von DEGW Italia, den verschiedenen Kernbereichen des großzügig angelegten Nestlé-Restaurants ein unverwechselbares Ambiente zu verleihen. Die VIP Area des 22.000 qm großen Firmenkomplexes bei Mailand ist geprägt durch den minimalistischen Look des Tisches „Stylus“, der im eleganten Sessel „Laja“ eine ideale Ergänzung findet. Lounge, Terrasse sowie ein offen gestalteter Bereich, der sowohl Gruppenbesprechungen als auch individuelles Arbeiten ermöglicht, wurden mit Stühlen und Hockern der „Kuadra“-Kollektion ausgestattet.

Ziel war es, eine zugleich funktionale und exquisite Raumerfahrung zu kreieren, welche der eindrucksvollen Architektur des Büros Park Associati entspricht.

With the tables and seating furniture from Pedrali, the designers at DEGW Italia were able to provide an unmistakable ambience for the various core areas of the spacious Nestlé restaurant. Industrial charm – new use – One of the industrial buildings constructed around 1900 in Steyr in Austria has now been converted for mixed use by the architektur-idee architecture firm in Linz: In addition to housing a company, the building also contains training rooms and administrative offices today.

“It was important for us to showcase the wonderful structure of the building with its old charm. We have freed the building of various components that were installed in the past decades and restored the old industrial architecture to its original condition,” reports architect Jürgen Hager.

In the training rooms, the architects have consciously focused on creating attractive spaces to achieve a pleasant atmosphere for learning. “For this reason, we selected an elegant designer floor in rustic dark pine look from Armstrong,” says Hager. The parquet appearance of the “Scala” designer tiles makes a fine and high-quality impression, but at the same time, the vinyl floor covering is much more robust and easier to care for than a parquet floor. Award-winning luxury objects – With the style of an upper-class private club: The lounge area of O2 World Berlin, which was renovated by the interior architects Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk and Peter Joehnk (JOI-Design) from Hamburg, has won third place in this year’s International Design Awards in the category of “Interior Design – Renovation.” Out of the four former small entertainment suites, the interior architects have created a spacious premium area with an intimate club flair. The “Diamond Ball.Room” lounge now appears in a successful mix of fine gold, shining silver, and dark, elegant shades of brown.

Unobtrusive indirect light and premium materials such as exquisite leather, dark wood, and upholstered lounge furniture promise the guests a topclass concert experience.

In addition, the interior design of the JW Marriott luxury hotel in Cannes, which was carried out by JOI-Design as well, has also won the “Honorable Mention Prize” in the “Renovation Pro” category.

Alpitecture vernetzt die Themen Alpen, Technologie und Architektur

Die Architektur erfordert einen besonders bewussten Umgang mit der jeweiligen räumlichen Situation und den in der Architektur eingesetzten, technischen Bauprozessen. Mit der Initiative „Alpitecture“ – angeregt von der Agentur für Architekturmarketing „ap35“ und initiiert von der Export Organisation Südtirol (EOS) der Handelskammer Bozen – wurde im Jahr 2009 in Südtirol eine Plattform zur Kommunikation neuer Ideen aus den Themen Alpen, Technologie und Architektur geschaffen.

Alpitecture bietet eine Vernetzung von Architekten und produzierenden Unternehmen, um Synergien in der Architektur zu nutzen. Ferner erfordert Bauen vor allem in Südtirol eine hohe Qualität in der Architektur und der Bauausführung, um den naturgegebenen Bedingungen in der geografischen Lage und im Klima gerecht zu werden.

Auch Tourismus-Architektur hat in Südtirol einen hohen Stellenwert und bildet einen Fokus der diesjährigen Veranstaltung.

Der „alpitecture code 7-15“ fokussiert sich auf die Regionen Pustertal, Bozen und Eisacktal, welche durch ihre prägnante und außergewöhnliche Architektur bekannt sind.

Dazu werden vom 11. bis 13. Juni 2015 drei Architektur-Exkursionen angeboten.

Parallel zum diesjährigen „alpitecture code“, der bereits zum siebten Mal stattfindet, laufen der zweite „alpitecture summit“ sowie erstmalig der „alpitecture award“ zum Thema Tourismus-Architektur. Im Mittelpunkt dieses Wettbewerbs stehen Architekturprojekte, die einen messbaren Mehrwert für den Tourismus leisten.

Zum „alpitecture award“ können Architekten realisierte Bauten aus der Zeit von 2008 bis 2014 einreichen. Die Teilnahmephase endet mit der letztmöglichen Abgabe am 29. Mai 2015. Alle eingesendeten Einreichungen werden am 12. Juni im Museion in

Der Summit schließt mit Vorträgen von Todd Saunders (Saunders Architecture) sowie Hani Rashid (Asymptote Architecture) sowie der offiziellen Preisverleihung des „alpitecture awards“. Der Summit ist eine öffentliche Veranstaltung, an der Architekten und Architekturinteressierte teilnehmen können.

Focus on tourism architecture – Alpitecture links the Alps, technology, and architecture.

Architectural design demands particularly conscious consideration of the respective spatial situation and of the technical building processes to be implemented. In 2009, the “Alpitecture” initiative came into being, a platform to communicate ideas on the topics of the Alps, technology, and architecture – proposed by the “ap35” architecture marketing agency and initiated by the Export Organization of South Tyrol (EOS) at the Bolzano Chamber of Commerce.

Alpitecture offers networking for architects and manufacturing companies to make use

of synergies in architecture. In addition, especially in South Tyrol, building requires high quality in the architecture and the construction work in order to do justice to the natural conditions in the geographic location and the climate. Tourism architecture is also very important in South Tyrol and is one of the focal points at this year’s event.

“Alpitecture code 7-15” focuses on the regions of the Puster Valley, Bolzano, and the Eisack Valley, which are famous for their striking and unusual architecture. Three architecture excursions are being offered in this region from 11 to 13 June. Along with this year’s “alpitecture code” – which is the seventh already, the second “alpitecture summit” and, for the first time, the “alpitecture award” on the topic of tourism architecture will also take place. The competition focuses on architectural projects that provide measurable added value for tourism.

For the “alpitecture award,” architects can submit buildings that were realized in the time period from 2008 to 2014. The deadline for participation is on the 29th of May 2015, the last possible day for submissions.

All submissions will be presented in an exhibition in the Museion in Bolzano on the 12th of June during the “alpitecture summit.”

One of the topics of the convention is the central idea of how architecturally attractive and successful travel destinations come into being. Well-known speakers will report on experiences and communication in connection with the realization of tourism architecture. The billboards are made of metal plates that are welded together and reminded the carpet trendsetter “of a rag rug.” Photos of the advertising boards served as the basis for the designs, which were then transmitted knot for knot with the highest precision into textile works of art at the company’s own workshops in Nepal.

IF: Herr Eckert, vor rund einem Jahr, anlässlich der Eröffnung des neu konzipierten Marken-Stores in München, haben wir über die Neuausrichtung der Marke Domicil, ihre Wachstumsstrategie und ihre Ziele gesprochen. Eine Frage vorneweg: Was hat sich seither bei Domicil getan?

Pascal Eckert: Wir haben die Marke Domicil stabilisiert und an unserem weltweiten Image gearbeitet. Die Pflege unserer Kunden stand hier im Vordergrund sowie die Erweitung unseres Kundenstamms auf eine neue Zielgruppe. Des Weiteren haben wir unsere Kollektion verfeinert und weiterentwickelt. Domicil stand und steht weiterhin für ganzheitliches Einrichten. Daran hat sich nichts geändert. Wir bieten unseren Kunden einen Mix aus Klassik und Moderne.

IF: Wie ist die Weiterentwicklung der Marke und auch die Öffnung in Richtung jüngerer Zielgruppen bei den Kunden angekommen?

Eckert: Wir merken immer wieder, dass das neue Konzept wahrgenommen wird und wir unsere Zielgruppe erweitert haben. Es macht Freude zu sehen, dass die Produkte gefallen und auch die nächste Generation zu uns in die Einrichtungshäuser kommt.

Natürlich gibt es in diesem Bereich noch mehr zu tun. Wir arbeiten gerade an einem neuen Online-Auftritt und erhoffen uns dadurch natürlich auch neue Kunden und auch eine erweiterte Zielgruppe.

IF: Wie viele Franchise-Partner und Stores

IF: Mr. Eckert, about a year ago on the occasion of the opening of the newly designed brand store in Munich, we talked about the new orientation of the Domicil brand, its growth strategy, and its goals.

One question to start off: What has happened at Domicil since then?

Pascal Eckert: We have stabilized the Domicil brand and worked on our image worldwide. Our priority was providing service for our regular customers as well as expanding our customer base to new target groups. In addition, we have refined our collection and developed it further. Domicil has always stood for comprehensive furnishing and will continue to do so. Nothing has changed about that. We offer our customers a mix of classical and modern.

IF: How have the further development of the brand and opening up in the direction of younger target groups been received by customers?

Eckert: We see over and over again that the new concept is being noticed and that we have expanded our target group. It makes us happy to see that people like our products and that the next generation is now coming to our furnishing houses as well. Of course, there is still more to be done in this area. We are working on a new online appearance right now and, naturally, we hope it will lead to new customers and an expanded target group.

Eckert: In Deutschland haben wir vier eigene Einrichtungshäuser (München, Freiburg, Düsseldorf und Hamburg) sowie 13 weitere Franchise Partner (Augsburg, Leipzig, Reutlingen, Dresden, Stuttgart, Meschede, Schwandorf, Wiesbaden, Münster, Karlsruhe, Ulm, Koblenz und Potsdam). Außerdem auf internationaler Ebene: Ukraine, Kiew, und im Juli 2015 wird unser FlagshipStore in Singapur eröffnet. Verloren haben wir unseren Franchisepartner in Ravensburg sowie in Erlangen. Erlangen hat sich für eine neue Richtung entschieden, welche nicht im Einklang mit der Domicil-Strategie steht.

Uns ist es sehr wichtig, weltweit ein einheitliches Konzept zu präsentieren, das mit keiner anderen Marke zu vergleichen ist.

Dies wird vor allem daran deutlich, dass es eine Bandbreite an Interessenten im Ausland gibt, Domicil zu eröffnen.

Für Deutschland suchen wir neue Franchisepartner, die mit uns den neuen Weg gehen möchten.

IF: Wurde bereits in allen Stores das neue Store-Design umgesetzt?

Eckert: Die Anpassungen bezüglich des neuen Store-Designs wurden in 2014 in München und Düsseldorf umgesetzt.

Momentan wird unser Einrichtungshaus in

IF: How many franchise partners and stores do you have in Germany now and how many worldwide? Have you also lost some franchise partners who were not able to or didn’t want to go in Domicil’s new direction?

Eckert: In Germany, we have four furnishing houses of our own (Munich, Freiburg, Düsseldorf, and Hamburg) as well as 13 other franchise partners (Augsburg, Leipzig, Reutlingen, Dresden, Stuttgart, Meschede, Schwandorf, Wiesbaden, Münster, Karlsruhe, Ulm, Koblenz, and Potsdam). And on the international level: Kiev in the Ukraine, and in July 2015, our flagship store in Singapore will open. We have lost our franchise partners in Ravensburg and in Erlangen. Erlangen decided to take a new direction that does not fit in with the Domicil strategy. It is very important for us to present a uniform concept worldwide that cannot be compared to any other brand. That can be seen by the fact that there are many outside the country who are interested in opening a Domicil store. In Germany, we are looking for new franchise partners who would like to join us as we go in a new direction.

IF: Has the new store design been implemented in all stores?

Eckert: The modifications for the new store design were carried out in Munich and Düsseldorf in 2014. At the moment, our store in Hamburg is being renovated and will reopen in July 2015. Singapore will be our new flag-

Zusätzlich liegt der Fokus weiterhin auf exklusiven Stoffen und Accessoires, in Kombination mit der Domicil-Möbelkollektion, um das ganzheitliche Einrichten, für das Domicil steht, zu verdeutlichen.

IF: Wie weit sind Ihre Wachstumspläne vorangeschritten?

Eckert: Es gibt diverse Interessenten aus dem Ausland – was uns sehr freut. Ziel ist es ebenfalls, nach der Eröffnung in Singapur weitere Stores in Asien zu eröffnen.

IF: Was sind Ihre nächsten Schritte?

Eckert: We have strengthened the classical collection and developed a nice combination with modern elements. It will continue to be produced and developed in Europe so we can ensure the quality and maintain our style. In addition, exclusive fabrics and accessories continue to be a focal point in combination with the Domicil furniture collection in order to emphasize the idea of comprehensive furnishing, for which Domicil stands.

IF: How have your plans for growth progressed?

Eckert: There are various interested parties abroad – and we are very happy about that. Our goal is also to open further stores in Asia after the opening in Singapore.

IF: What steps will you take next?

Eckert: Of course, we want to continue to strengthen and expand our brand. We are working on a worldwide brand identity.

In the past, we have missed out on a lot online, so we are concentrating on a new website at the moment. It will go online in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Naturally, we are focusing on the new openings in Hamburg and Singapore – and we will also continue to work on constantly expanding our target group.

Der charismatische Loungesessel ist ein Statement an den modernen und urbanen Lifestyle. Auffällig ist die erhabene Rückenlinie, die dem Solitär eine gewisse Herrschaftlichkeit im Raum verleiht. Die handgestochene Ziernaht, die sich über die gesamte Rückenlehne erstreckt, zitiert „hand-

Die Innen- und Außenseite der Schale sowie das Sitzkissen können individuell mit jedem Leolux-Bezugsmaterial bezogen werden. Von Leder bis hochwertigen italienischen Qualitäten, von Uni bis Zweifarbig.

The elegant shape is reminiscent of a crescent moon. No edges. No corners. No annoying seams. As if all of a piece, the “Caruzzo” lounge chair with its eccentric form is pure design.

The model, which was created by the Dutch designer Frans Schrofer, won the Red Dot Interior Award 2015. The charismatic lounge chair is a statement for the modern and urbane lifestyle.

The raised lines of the back are striking and give the stand-alone piece a certain majesty in a room. The hand-sewn decorative seam that stretches across the entire backrest evokes “handcrafted” in a very subtle way. Like all the other designs,

“Caruzzo” is produced in Venlo in the Netherlands. The uncompromising seating comfort is complemented by an integrated recliner mechanism. It makes additional individualized seating positions possible that can be locked into place. The lounge chair is available with two seat heights. The matching elegant footstool completes the portfolio.

The inside and outside of the seat as well as the seat cushion can be separately covered with any Leolux cover material. From leather to premium quality Italian fabrics, in one or two colors.

Afrikanisches Design im neuen Licht In einer großen Ausstellung rückt das Vitra Design Museum seit März und noch bis zum 19. Möbel, Leuchten, Konsumgüter, architektonische Installationen und Innenarchitektur – das Spektrum von Designer Benjamin Hubert ist breit. Er gehört derzeit zu den gefragtesten Jungdesignern. Seine Objekte sind zeitlos und reagieren nicht auf Trends oder Modeerscheinungen, sondern basieren auf Gebrauchstauglichkeitsanalysen, Materialität, Nachhaltigkeit und visueller Reduktion. Das Studio Benjamin Hubert Ltd. arbeitet mit führenden, internationalen Design-Marken zusammen. Im Interview mit InteriorFashion erzählt der Designer von seinen Eindrücken aus Mailand und worauf es ihm bei seiner Arbeit ankommt.

IF: Herr Hubert, wie war der Salone in Mailand für Sie dieses Jahr? Welche Eindrücke haben Sie mitgenommen und gehört der Salone für Sie als Designer zu den „Pflichtterminen“ im Jahr?

Benjamin Hubert: Der Salone del Mobile ist jedes Jahr eine großartige Zeit, man kann alle Freunde, Kollegen und Klienten an einem Ort treffen. Es ist immer noch das wichtigste Ereignis im Kalender. Wenn man dort ist, fällt es einem schwer zu verstehen, was gut und was nicht so gut ist, da man so viel mental downloaden muss. Ich glaube, manche Firmen tendieren dazu, zu viel zu produzieren; ihnen fehlt die Selbstsicherheit, nur ein oder zwei Produkte herzustellen und sie mit Erfolg auf den Markt zu bringen. Glücklicherweise gibt es auch einige Firmen, die so arbeiten, und wir haben das Glück, mit manchen zusammenzuarbeiten.

IF: In Mailand wurde u. a. erstmals Ihr neuer Entwurf „Inlay“ – ein ultramodulares Sofakonzept – für die belgische Designermarke Indera vorgestellt. Können Sie uns mehr darüber erzählen?

Hubert: „Inlay“ ist ein neues supermodules

Sofa-System für superflexibles Wohnen. Bei „Inlay“ gibt es Rücken-, Armlehne- und Sitzmodule in verschiedenen Größen, die einfach vom Nutzer konfiguriert oder auch neu konfiguriert werden können. Mit den endlosen Variationen kann ein Sofa für jede Situation zusammengestellt werden. Für das Sofa wird eine moderne, architektonische Formsprache verwendet, und ein innovatives Nahtbild integriert die Beine aus Aluminiumdruckguss in den Korpus, um eine neue Ästhetik für diese Typologie zu entwickeln. „Inlay“ ist erhältlich in allen Kvadrat-Stoffen und in Leder für Wohn- und Objektzwecke. Die Wohnversion des Sofas bietet auch lose Kissen und ist dadurch eine noch flexiblere Lösung für den Privatbereich.

IF: Wie würden Sie selbst ein „typisches“ Benjamin-Hubert-Design beschreiben ?

Was zeichnet Ihre persönliche DesignHandschrift aus?

Hubert: Wir wollen Probleme lösen, etwas entwickeln mit festen Werten – etwas, was schneller, leichter, stärker, wirtschaftlicher, flexibler ist. Diese Kernwerte stehen im Mit-

telpunkt für uns, weil wir glauben, dass sie im Einklang mit der jetzigen und zukünftigen Situation in der Welt sind – und damit, wie Menschen konsumieren sollten.

IF: Wie gehen Sie an ein neues Projekt heran? Wie kann man sich Ihre Arbeitsweise vorstellen? Was macht Ihnen besonders Spaß an Ihrer Arbeit?

Hubert: Wir stellen immer viele Fragen und stellen uns der Aufgabe, etwas zu entwickeln, was neu ist und gleichzeitig wirtschaftlich sinnvoll und zu unserer Lebensart passt. Wir gehen Probleme analytisch an, danach kommen Zeichnen, Modellbauen, 3D CAD und viele Tests.

IF: Gibt es ein Material oder etwas anderes, mit dem Sie besonders gerne arbeiten? Und wenn ja, warum?

Hubert: Wir arbeiten gerne mit dem Material, das ein Problem, an dem wir gerade arbeiten, am besten löst.

IF: Woher holen Sie sich Ihre Inspirationen?

Hubert: Von der Art, wie auf der Welt gelebt wird, von dem Alltag, den wir erleben, von der Art und Weise, wie wir Kaufentscheidungen treffen und von der Flexibilität, die wir im Alltag brauchen, um ihn leichter und angenehmer zu machen.

IF: Sie gehören derzeit zu den erfolgreichsten Jungdesignern. Ihre Referenzliste liest sich wie das Who‘s Who der großen Design-Marken. Gibt es ein Projekt, das Ihnen besonders am Herzen liegt oder besonders viel Freude gemacht hat?

Hubert: Die, an denen wir gerade arbeiten.

Wir haben zurzeit mit großen Sportmarken, elektronischen Geräten, Wohltätigkeitsorganisationen und Hilfsmitteln für Menschen mit Behinderung zu tun.

IF: Mit Ihrem Tisch „Ripple“ wurden Sie 2014 nominiert für das Design des Jahres, Sie sind Jungdesigner des Jahres 2014, 2013 Elle Decoration Designer of the Year (shortlisted) usw. usw. – Wow! Gibt es eine Auszeichnung, die Sie besonders gefreut hat?

Hubert: Preise sind großartig – damit kann man die eigene Denkweise vermitteln. Wir sind gerne bei allen dabei.

IF: Woran arbeiten Sie derzeit und was dürfen wir von Ihnen erwarten?

Materials driven. Process led. Industrial design – Furniture, lighting, consumer products, architectural installations, and interior architecture – designer Benjamin Hubert’s range is wide. He is one of the young designers who is currently most in demand. His objects are timeless and do not respond to trends or fashion but rely on usability analysis, materiality, sustainability, and visual reduction. The Benjamin Hubert Ltd. studio works with leading international design brands. In an interview with InteriorFashion, the designer tells about his impressions of Milan and what is important to him in his work.

IF: Mr. Hubert, how was the Salone in Milan for you this year? What were your impressions and, for you as a designer, is the Salone one of the annual events that is not to be missed?

Benjamin Hubert: Salone del Mobile is always a great period in the year, you get to see everyone in one place, friends, colleagues and clients. It is still the most important event in the calendar. It is always difficult to understand what is good and what is not so good when you are there as there is so much to mentally download. I think there is a tendency for some companies to produce too much and not have the confidence to do one or two objects and get these successfully into the market.

Luckily, there are a few companies who do work like this, we are fortunate to be working with.

IF: In Milan, your new “Inlay” design – an ultra modular sofa concept – was introduced for the first time for the Belgian designer brand Indera. Can you tell us more about it?

Hubert: „Inlay“ is a new super modular sofa system for super flexible living. „Inlay“ comprises back rest, arm rest, and seat modules in various sizes that can be easily configured and re-configured by the user in infinite variations to create a sofa for any occasion. The sofa employs a modernist architectural design language, and an innovative seam detail integrates the die cast aluminium leg and the body of the sofa to create a new aesthetic for this typology. „Inlay” is available in all Kvadrat textiles and leather upholstery options for either residential or contract specification. The residential edition of the sofa comes with loose cushions, offering an even more flexible solution for the home.

IF: How would you yourself describe a

“typical” Benjamin Hubert Design? What characterizes your personal design style?

Hubert: We are interested in problem solving, trying to create something with hard values – something faster, lighter, stronger, more economical, more flexible. We focus on these core values as we believe that is in tune with the current and future state of the world and how people should consume objects.

IF: How do you approach a new project?

Can you tell us about the way you work?

What do you really enjoy in your work?

Hubert: We always ask lots of questions and challenge ourselves to create something that is both very new and makes good commercial sense that will resonate with the way we live. We have an analytical approach to a problem and then we translate that through sketching, model making, and 3D CAD and a lot of testing.

IF: Is there a material or something else that you particularly like to work with? If so, why?

Hubert: We like to work with the material that solves the problem we are tackling best.

IF: Where do you get your inspiration?

Hubert: From the way the world is living, the daily things we come up against, the way we make purchasing decisions, and the flexibility we require in everyday life to make it easier and more pleasurable.

IF: What are you working on at the present time, and what may we expect from you in the future?

Hubert: Tools to inspire social responsibility – apps, wearables, domestic goods, tools for charities – it is an exciting period for us!

Die Neuen Werkstätten präsentieren noch bis 18. Mai am Promenadeplatz 8 in München die Ausstellung „Rug Star – Emotionen knüpfen“. Das Teppich-Label „Rug Star“ von Jürgen Dahlmanns begeistert durch tibetische und persische Teppiche in zeitgenössischem Design. Dass der studierte Architekt viel von Raumwirkung versteht, merkt man seinen Entwürfen an. Sein Credo: „Teppich ist eine liberale Form von Architektur, weil er Raum schafft, ohne von Wänden begrenzt zu werden.“ Die Neuen Werkstätten, 1991 gegründet, entwickeln gemeinsam mit Architekten und Bauherren maßgeschneiderte Arbeitsund Wohninterieurs und realisieren dabei individuelle Kundenwünsche auf höchstem Niveau. Designwettbewerb zum 100. Geburtstag Philip Rosenthals Philip Rosenthal (1916-2001) würde im kommenden Jahr seinen 100. Geburtstag feiern. Seine Visionen und Ideen haben Rosenthal geprägt. Um dieses besondere Jubiläum mit außergewöhnlichen PorzellanDesigns zu feiern, schreibt Rosenthal auf der Online-Plattform www.designenlassen.de ab sofort einen großen Wettbewerb für Kreative aus.

Unter dem Motto „Zusammensein“ sind Produktgestalter dazu aufgerufen, ein besonderes Porzellandekor oder eine neue Form im Geschenkebereich zu Ehren von Philip Rosenthal zu kreieren. Eine Jury aus Designern, Künstlern und Unternehmensvertretern kürt den Siegerentwurf, der 2016 als neues Produkt auf der Konsumgütermesse Ambiente in Frankfurt vorgestellt und Teil der Jubiläumskampagne sein wird.

Design competition for Philip Rosenthal’s 100th birthday – Philip Rosenthal (1916-2001) would have celebrated his 100th birthday next year. His visions and ideas shaped the Rosenthal company. In order to celebrate the special anniversary with extraordinary porcelain designs, Rosenthal has announced a big competition for creative designers on the online platform www. designenlassen.de. Product designers are invited to create a special porcelain decor or something new in the gift segment under the motto “Zusammensein” (togetherness) in honor of Philip Rosenthal. A jury of designers, artists, and company representatives will choose the winning design, which will be introduced as a new product at the Ambiente consumer goods fair in Frankfurt in 2016 and be part of the anniversary campaign. Max Bill: Sicht der Dinge Die von Max Bill im Auftrag des Schweizerischen Werkbundes SWB konzipierte internationale Wanderausstellung „Die gute Form“ wurde zum ersten Mal 1949 anlässlich der Schweizer Mustermesse in Basel präsentiert. 80 von Max Bill gestaltete Tafeln zeigten von ihm ausgewählte, beispielhaft geformte Konsumgegenstände aus aller Welt. Die Schau sorgte in der Schweiz für einigen Ärger, über die Landesgrenzen hinaus für Furore und Gesprächsstoff; und sie hatte eine weitreichende Wirkung – etwa auf die Art, in der Konsumgegenstände wahrgenommen wurden.

Diese Publikation dokumentiert Bills Initiative mit den originalen Ausstellungstafeln und zahlreichen zeitgenössischen Texten, und sie stellt die Wanderschau in einen theoretischen, wirkungs- und designgeschichtlichen Kontext.

Max Bill: View of Things – The international touring exhibition “Die gute Form” was conceived by Max Bill on behalf of the Swiss Werkbund SWB and was shown for the first time on the occasion of the Swiss Mustermesse trade fair in Basel in 1949. 80 display panels designed by Max Bill presented a selection of consumer goods from all over the world, chosen by him as examples of good design. The show upset some people in Switzerland and led to furor and debate outside the country as well; and it had a wide-reaching influence – for example on the way in which consumer goods have been perceived.

This publication documents Bill’s initiative with the original display panels and lots of contemporary texts, and it places the touring exhibition in its theoretical context and considers its effect and its place within the history of design.

Im Rahmen seiner weltweiten Markenpolitik hat Uhrenhersteller Citizen bei der Triennale in Mailand im vergangenen Jahr für Gesprächsstoff gesorgt. Grund war die Installation „Light is Time“, die die hauseigenen Designer in Zusammenarbeit mit Tsuyoshi Tane vom Pariser Architekturbüro DGT entwickelt hatten. Sie bestand aus 80.000 Uhrwerkplatinen, dem Basiselement eines Uhrwerks, die im Raum schwebend eine bezaubernde und magische Stimmung schafften.

Ergänzt wurde die Installation durch die Präsentation der ersten von Citizen produzierten Uhr aus 1920er-Jahren, winzig kleinen Bestandteilen der Uhren und der neuesten Modelle. Das Kunstwerk hat Eindruck hinterlassen: So war „Light is Time“ für den Architizer A+ Award 2015 nominiert und schaffte es immerhin bis in das Finale.

“Light is Time” – As part of its worldwide brand strategy, the watchmaker Citizen provided a conversation piece at the Triennale in Milan last year – the “Light is Time” installation, which the company’s own designers had created in collaboration with Tsuyoshi Tane from the DGT architecture company in Paris. It consisted of 80,000 movement plates, the basic elements of clockwork mechanisms, which seemed to float in the room and created an enchanting and magical atmosphere. The installation was complemented by the presentation of the first watch produced by Citizen in the 1920s, tiny little watch components, and the latest models.
