At KIPP Columbus in Ohio, a K-12 charter school, the new 5,350-square-foot Battelle Environmental Center has a large, northfacing glass curtain wall overlooking the sweeping campus landscape. Daylight and occupancy sensors help reduce the energy use of light fixtures. The roof is long-lasting metal on a perforated, corrugated metal deck that aids sound absorption. The bent-steel structure has no interior bearing walls, allowing for partitions to change over time.
