The program enters its third year by bringing 30 NeoCon neophytes to the Mart through a professional-growth experience that offers editor-guided showroom visits, panel discussions, interactive sessions, and additional programming. Sincere appreciation goes to our sponsors for rolling out the red carpet and giving these upand-comers first-class treatment: AHF, Arktura, Artistic Tile, Bernhart Design, Formica, Ghent, KI, Material Bank, Momentum, OM, Porcelanosa, Shaw Contract, Source, and Turf.
Cargo blocking and bracing, that Tetris game of shipping and logistics, was the genesis for sectional seating by ADDI for Mizetto, which won a HiP Award. The plush modules form backrests and seats depressed by crisscrossed tension straps. “Cargo is a great example of turning something as familiar as a sofa into something entirely different,” says ADDI’s Karl-Magnus Lillqvist Sjöberg. Of course, Cargo also ships with the greatest of ease! space 3-121
An umbrella—for the indoors? That’s the novel concept of BuzziBrella, a touchdown perch for one (or many) surveyed by an elegant acoustic canopy. Designed by Sebastian Herkner, the “umbrella” has a jaunty tilt that lends insouciance and is embedded with three LED spots, attributes that netted it a HiP Award. BuzziSpace’s latest product offers users a place to rest and re-energize (literally, thanks to USB and fast chargers) without sacrificing a sense of openness. space 10-111
Looking for an adaptable furniture system that fits any context? Try Pearson Lloyd’s Kern, by Inclass, an extensive network of products designed for all manner of gathering and waiting. There are four collections—sofas, modular seats, meeting booths, and occasional tables—all of which can be rearranged to create chic, ultraflexible spaces for meeting, waiting, working, or simply relaxing. In Awaken, hand-inked linework resembles fingerprints and tree rings: one-ofa-kind signatures found in the natural world. The vinyl wallcovering is part of Blue, Wolf-Gordon’s new contract wallcovering collection inspired by the editorial perspective of high-fashion photography. Available in eight colorways, including metallics and a brilliant Yves Klein–esque azure, the pattern reads as dynamic from a distance and delightfully detailed at close range. space 3-100

DECEMBER 10, 2025 more information
DesignScene is bustling this year, with thousands of designers, manufacturers, and distributors flocking to the 11th-floor space to test out its emphasis on DIY experiential fun! More than 300 full-sized lamps by LightArt form an incandescent tableau in the storefront, while 3D printers whir in the background, making plant-based PLA shades in situ. Gracing shelving units that trace the perimeter are dozens of miniature model lamps, composed of modules that click together via magnets: Visitors can stack them any which way to make their own totemic mini lamps! Hatched by Interior Design in partnership with Ryan Smith, chief creative officer of 3form and the founder of LightArt, the lounge/studio offers creative respite from traipsing the trade show halls (not to mention an ideal Instagram moment). DesignScene is also hosting roundtables to foster learning; 1st NeoCon programming; and the return of Metropolis’s Sustainability Lab, with its signature bold green palette and the sweetest plant-filled popup by Common Object Studio. Come on by for our last day, tomorrow, before it’s all over! space 1120

The Spanish design house celebrates its platinum anniversary with an expansive new showroom on floor 3—toasted by Interior Design editor in chief Cindy Allen—and a host of fresh offerings that feel como una familia. Among them is Calma by Layer founder Benjamin Hubert. “Whether it’s something technical like a task chair or soft like a lounge chair, everything we’ve designed with Andreu World is gentle, intuitive, and engaging,” the industrial designer explains. Calma exemplifies this ethos, blurring the lines between public and private, work and rest. Ergonomic and user-informed, the lounge features a four-blade aluminum swivel base with a synchronized reclining system that locks in any position, complemented by a two-piece backrest offering full-body support.
Meanwhile, Patricia Urquiola’s modish Bolete collection has been reinterpreted and expanded to include new lounge and conference models as well as biomorphic café and occasional tables. The Hall of Famer’s signature T-shaped base—crafted from 100 percent recycled Pure ECO thermoplastic—anchors sculptural surfaces in oak, laminate, stone, glass, or ultra-matte finishes.
Rounding out the intros is Afteroom’s Garzetta collection: a refined trio of occasional tables, first unveiled in Milan and now recognized with a NeoCon Gold award for its minimalist yet materially expressive design. Swing by the new showroom to see all! space 300

The warm, tactile texture of Oswell was designed to be felt as much as seen. Conceived by Jaume Jané and Bern Donadeu for Inclass, the contemporary shell chair also stacks an impressive 45 units high on a trolley (in certain models). This neat blend of good looks and practicality made Oswell a hit during Salone del Mobile in Milan—an enthusiastic reception the perch will no doubt get in the Windy City, too. The myriad versions include barstool and outdoor variants, with a range of bases and options for casters and upholstery. Through Sandler.

The newest fixture in Luxxbox’s award-winning Kurtain series, sculpted-wool Kurtain Line redefines the traditional linear pendant via a soft, wavelike profile that evokes S-fold drapes. Call it a threein-one: The company founder’s design solves real challenges in largescale interiors by delivering noise reduction, visual softness, and high-efficiency lighting in one fell swoop. (Compatibility with Tunable White, Casambi Bluetooth, and POE control further enhances the light’s adaptability for diverse applications.) Manufactured to order in California, the fixture body is constructed from Camira Blazer wool— offered in 77 colors—that is fully compostable at end of life. space 7-8082
Crafted of proprietary fiber braided over a powder-coated aluminum frame, this curvaceous outdoor-ready armchair with a welcoming flared collar is part of the London-based designer’s inaugural collection for Dedon. Dubbed Fllair, it was inspired by the joy of finding a sunbathing nook along the rocky Grecian coastline that appears tailor-made just for you. Let dreams of summer sun run rampant. space 1452

Perennially fascinated by both pattern and disrupting tradition, Magnusson manipulates stripes by thickness and direction in a durable new cotton-poly blend for Momentum Textiles & Wallcovering. The designer—who is also the daughter of renowned Italian architect Gianfranco Frattini—combined up to 13 yarn hues per colorway (with evocative place names like Tokyo and Dakar) to capture the exact palette in her mind’s eye. With an expansive repeat of 66 inches, Frattini Stripe is playful yet utterly chic, and achieves 100,000 double rubs to boot. space 323

Everyone’s talking about all the fun they had at Sunday night’s Revel in Design gala! Of course, the evening wasn’t just an excuse to catch up with friends and get down on the dance floor; it was also an event to celebrate the victors of IIDA’s annual Interior Design and Will Ching Design Competitions—global programs that recognize industry innovation and presage the future of the built environment. In yesterday’s edition of the Show Daily, we highlighted three winners; here we showcase three more, including Best of Competition winner Innocad Architecture, for Fractal Chapel at State Hospital Graz, Austria. A convivial take on the classic task lounge, Hello by Patricia Urquiola is all curves—and brimming with personality. Reintroduced with new modularity and mobility, the sculptural seat now offers a tablet arm (which can be affixed to either side), bag hooks, and castors for smooth transitions between solo work and casual conversation. Available in vibrant textiles and lush leathers, it’s a joyful active-work anchor for flexible, people-forward interiors. The seat’s more petite companion, the Hello Mini Mobile ottoman, can be supplemented with a bolster for enhanced comfort.

Lost Language is the love triangle between past, present, and possibility.
Inspired by—and leveraging—the practice of upcycling discarded clothing, the Tumble table by Union Design’s Jeff Theesfeld connects sustainability with thoughtful craftsmanship. Tops made from shredded and compressed recycled textiles give each piece a unique, flecked appearance. The shape of the wood base—crafted of plywood, solid ash, and ash veneer—was inspired by the universal laundry tag symbol for “tumble dry” (hence the name!), giving it a playful wink. The side table version is 15 inches across and 21 high, while the coffee table spans 23 inches and stands 16 high.
“More than 10 years after Ester, we imagined a new seat where elegance and comfort engage in thoughtful and balanced dialogue”
Good matchmaking can take time. The Opale armchair by French design star Patrick Jouin is a companion piece for the popular Ester chair, an ergonomic marvel the Hall of Famer designed over a decade ago for Alain Ducasse’s restaurant at the Dorchester hotel in London. This likeminded seat from Pedrali brings even more comfort to bear by employing organic shapes and elastic support belts, and adds the warmth of gracefully tapered ash or walnut legs. Armrests and back cushioned with injected polyurethane foam surround occupants with strength and softness. An especially clever feature is the back, which has a nearly invisible built-in handle that aids maneuverability—especially handy for restaurants, so the waiter can pull out your chair with ease. Available with fabric or leather upholstery.

Recalling the classic childhood ring-toss game, Miramar’s unique appearance, with its stacked back, encourages creative textile combinations. The spacedefining system is fully customizable with planters, power integration, and privacy panels, while the metal base comes in both polished aluminum and powder-coat colors. Also new, Tulita balances structure and comfort by pairing loose seat and back cushions with a tightly upholstered base, back, and arms. It can be configured with a corner table and seat as well as a curved table segment for versatility.

We love a company that gives back. On show at the Spanish manufacturer’s brand-new third-floor Mart showroom, encompassing a sprawling 20,000 square feet, is Valencia. The sculptural stool by Interior Design Hall of Famer Patricia Urquiola is a tribute to its namesake—the city in which Andreu World is rooted—and all proceeds go directly toward helping communities affected by the area’s October 2024 floods. The designer describes the stool’s sinuous, ribbed form as a hybrid between driftwood and woven Mediterranean baskets. Intriguingly, Valencia is 3D-printed from a sustainable mixture of cork and polylactic acid, a bioplastic used in biodegradable bottles. Also on view during NeoCon is Piergiorgio Cazzaniga’s Sir, a sleek, ultra-versatile modular seating system available any which way: as an armchair, a chaise, and two- and three-seaters with straight segments or 30-, 60-, or 90-degree curves.

The aluminum silhouette of Horizon, by Mike & Maaike, features syncopated slats with a slight curvature to deliver ergonomic comfort and a clean-lined look. The Arcata sofa and lounge chair by Anderssen & Voll, a veritable mashup of midcentury American and Scandinavian styling, combines rounded forms and warmth. And jehs+laub’s JeLa chair (get it?) has an internal jet-molded plastic shell lightly padded with molded foam for supportive comfort.

This organic-chic mural wallcovering brings a bit of beach life indoors. We can just smell the ocean breeze and hear the cry of seagulls! Dubbed Dune, the painterly design abstracts its namesake sand features on a sisal ground; a faintly metallic finish suggests sunlight glinting off gently rolling waves. The design spans five panels that can be arranged any which way and comes in five colorways including Oceana.

Inspired by the clustered islands that form an archipelago, sinuous Pelago brings a modular elegance and thoughtful functionality to public seating. Its sculptural, screw-free silhouette can integrate planters, tables, and bins into one seamless system. Crafted from FSC-certified wood, recycled aluminum, and marine plastics, Pelago’s six reconfigurable modules invite customization across color and layout. Designed for dynamic, high-traffic spaces—from airports to retail hubs—the system also sports a low-maintenance finish and is outfitted with charging points.
The eight patterns in the Haiku collection of bleach-cleanable fabrics bring calm to—and elevate—healing environments. Among them, Lyric contains effervescent dots and textural interest; Skipping Stones was inspired by the Maine coast and utilizes natural dyes like henna and indigo. Three coated fabrics—Painted Moon, Sea of Clouds, and Sumi—incorporate a minimum of 50 percent resin derived from forestry industry waste. And Kigo, a privacy curtain, is fabricated of polyester boasting 46 percent postconsumer-recycled content, including Seaqual yarns made from salvaged marine litter.

The concept of bringing the outdoors in reaches new heights with BuzziBrella by Sebastian Herkner. Its innovative design suspends an umbrella-inspired canopy over a circular seat, establishing an inviting spot for light work, reading, or relaxation. Thoughtful technology integration enhances the functionality: Three LED spots shine from the underside of the tilted canopy, and the structural center pole incorporates three standard USBs and three A+C USB fast chargers. Upholstered in recycled-content fabric, the units incorporate BuzziSpace’s advanced acoustic materials to reduce noise and bolster speech intelligibility, making the design ideal for open-plan environments. Plus, it’s cute to boot.

Nostalgic for the charm of handcrafted parquet—but need a more durable solution for demanding hospitality spaces and workplace environments? Then say hello to Amtico Digital Mosaics—a warm nod to artisanal tradition, precision-engineered for commercial life. These 16-inch LVT squares channel old-world elegance with pixel-perfect digital printing and a seamless cut-in register that keeps the visual rhythm flowing from tile to tile. Built for high-traffic durability, the tiles are 2.4 mm thick and armored with a 40-mil wear layer, topped off with Amtico’s Quantum Guard Elite finish for serious scratch resistance, top-tier dimensional stability, and a performance edge that outshines typical urethane—without dialing down the design. Available in seven styles, the collection leans into rich textures and earthy, autumnal tones that whisper wabi-sabi sophistication.
Eschewing rigid one-size-fits-all furniture for flexible and spatially efficient choices is a win for us all, whether we’re studying poli-sci in the classroom or writing NeoCon product highlights in the Show Daily office. “Engagement starts with comfort and freedom,” affirms KI executive Tony Besasie. Debuting at NeoCon are six new products designed to do just that. Three of our favorites: lightweight, stackable Cogni, with an ergonomically responsive frame available in a variety of soothing colors and finishes; the cohesive, upholstered Cascha collection (including lounge and guest chair, stool, and tables); and the modular, tiered Clamber units. The latter is ultra-customizable, with straight, square, wave, S-curve, and half-round modules to activate underutilized space, as well as integrated power and options for contrasting upholstery and laminate worktops.

Designed by Milan-based duo Ludovica Serafini and Roberto Palomba, the Orchid lounge chair and its coordinating ottoman take their name and sculptural form from the Vanda orchid, Singapore’s national flower. The distinctive silhouette—at once fluid and architectonic—is intended to evoke the bloom’s organic geometry while providing enveloping comfort through its curved, body-cradling shape. Pieces are constructed with a powdercoated aluminum frame wrapped in JANUSfiber, a proprietary handwoven material. They’re offered in two finish options: limestone/limestone, which combines smooth and grained white fibers, and limestone/palladium, a chevronlike pattern in white and gray that’s executed by artisan weavers skilled in traditional techniques.

Spec’ing for a luxury resort? “My most popular murals are now glass solutions”
Neuroinclusive design may be the buzz phrase du jour, but its tenets are perennially salient—and the impetus behind a new architectural glass collection reflective of leading research linking biophilic imagery to improved mood, attention, and emotional regulation. Murals on Glass features graphic artist and wallcovering/textile designer Jill Malek’s five most popular abstractions of natural phenomena—think Icelandic vistas and the skies of Sedona, Arizona. The large-scale pastel artworks, available on panels up to 72 by 144 inches, are fabricated in Chicago with extremely tight registration, enabling the image to stretch seamlessly across multiple panels. “Jill’s work has a rhythm to it: It moves, it breathes,” says Skyline design director Darcie Tashey. “In glass, that rhythm interacts with light and space in new ways, adding another layer to how her designs can shape the built environment.” Play with the transparency to add yet more dimension. The collection is also being shown at My Resource Library in space 1191 at the Mart. Fellowes Design & Experience Center, 311 N. Green St, 9th Floor

“Nova embraces our psychological and emotional connections to color”
“For me, everything starts with color,” says Dutch fashion designer Sander Lak. A vibrant palette distinguished his late, great label Sies Marjan, while a 2021 collection with Maharam explored a range of saturated hues. The latter was such a success that the brand invited him back for another spin around the color wheel. This time, Lak conceived a large-scale pattern: Nova, a polyester suitable for wallcovering or upholstery. “I wanted to capture how color flows, grows, and moves—like mixing a pot of paint,” Lak says. He achieved a painterly blend of dissolving tones through custom yarns dyed to his specification: Four colors in the weft are woven with a fifth in the warp to create nine entrancing colorways. The latest from the brand’s partnership with Artaic, a company that specializes in custom mosaics produced via a mix of traditional techniques, modern design tools, and automation, Mosaik features patterns created with 2-inch square wool-felt tiles that fit together seamlessly for easy wall installation. Five new designs from the series by Boston-based designer Kelly Harris Smith draw from traditional textile patterns and those of renowned fiber artist Anni Albers. The fourth Chicago concept from Michelin-starred and James Beard–nominated chef Sujan Sarkar, this Lincoln Park newcomer showcases a symphony of regional Indian cuisine. Featuring around a dozen à la carte dishes—from Kerala-style crab to Nagaland chili-glazed pork ribs—the menu is bold but approachable. The beverage program includes turmeric- and saffron-infused cocktails and mocktails, plus Indian spirits and wines curated by Tia Politte. The 90-seat dining room is equally vibrant, with Art Institute alum Abhay Sehgal’s Chicago Durbar oil-on-canvas gracing the main floor, and a private upstairs space available for special events. Boasting a Michelin star, this eatery named after a Spanish term of endearment offers a Latin-inspired tasting menu and a 10-course late-night taco omakase by chef Norman Fenton. In the former, finedining tropes get a fresh twist: For example, chips and salsa come in the form of a salsa-verde jelly with tortilla crumble. But it’s the multicourse taco chef's choice at $125 per person (including two drinks), with a nightly 10PM seating, that sounds muy, muy bueno. 4662 N. Broadway; 312-722-6838

Nestled in Ukrainian Village, Feld offers an everevolving tasting menu by chef Jacob Potashnick that’s been described by diners as daring and delicious. Each of the 25 to 40 micro-courses highlights hyper-seasonal ingredients sourced within a 4-hour radius of Chicago. Dishes are assembled in front of guests in a theater-in-theround setting for an authentic dose of Midwestern hospitality. Expect minimalist presentations—like pattypan squash in fig leaf cream or heirloom beans in ham stock—that delve into singular flavors and textures, along with wine pairings that complement the menu’s daily variations. As for ambiance, the 20-seat destination is housed in a lovely centuryold building with a restored gold-tin ceiling. 2018 W. Chicago Avenue; reservations via Tock

New from the prestigious Alinea Group and located an easy 7-minute drive from the Mart, in the former Roister space, is a dining experience described as “open-fire-driven.” That means ember cooking, ash-salt baking, iron-press searing, blowtorching, spit-roasting, flambadou-fat rendering, even branding food with medieval-style hearth tools. It brings cooking back to basics: rustic-refined dishes made by live flame at an inviting hearth. And diners in the kitchen counter seats may spot chef Grant Achatz plating dishes on hot rocks and wood chips right in front of them. 951 W. Fulton Market; reservations via Tock

Cocktails like the French Martini (Grey Goose vodka, pineapple, framboise) and four types of Old-Fashioneds are perfect for an evening tipple, while the dishes are comfort food favorites: Go for the coal-fired ribeye, brown butter, lemon, and fried sage gnocchi, or the double Wagu cheeseburger, pressed and griddled with a special sauce. 230 W. Homestyle Korean dinners are a family affair at this funky West Town eatery run by siblings Charlie Park and Min Lee along with Lee’s husband, Brian. No frills or fusion here. Upon being seated, guests are served a variety of complimentary homemade banchan: an assortment of small, traditional side dishes such as vegetables, pickles, stir fries, and kimchi. There’s a variety of rich and hearty stew options, plus sizzling BBQ, but the featured dish is galbi-jjim: a comforting meal of melt-in-mouth braised short ribs in a savory-sweet soy-based sauce.
