A Door kit is a set of fully machined and fitted frame components together with a pre-finished door leaf (or leaves), fully prepared for on-site assembly and fixing. Our Door kits are ideal for new build properties and, unlike traditionally hung doors, they have all the essential components required for immediate installation. They are pre-machined for an accurate fit, minimising the dependence for on-site skills, thus saving valuable time. Door kits can also be handed on-site so no pre-order handing information is required. As doors are fully finished, the leaves can be installed at the end of the building process, eliminating swelling and distortion. Doorsets are pre-assembled in their frame, along with fitted stops and ironmongery. This speeds up the installation process and also meets all accreditations for Fire Doors where the industry is moving to pre-assembled sets.

We also ensure any third-party sourcing for components such as ironmongery, hinges and seals are of the highest standard and tested to meet the relevant certification.

Storage and Handling Handling and storage on site information sheet Handling, Storage & Protection National Timber Goup doors, assemblies & sets are a high-quality product and therefore require an appropriate level of protection on site: we recommend that the packaging / protection should not be removed until immediately before the doors, assemblies / sets are ready to be installed. Our products are a late second fix item and should be installed after all wet trades have finished and the moisture level within the building has returned to a normal level. Storage The correct storage conditions of products are essential to ensure the product performs and appears as specified. Storage and protection of the products on site is the responsibility of the contractor. Storage Area The allocated site storage area must be clean, level suitable for stacking doors, assemblies / sets and provide sufficient space for doors to be moved around, sorted, and restacked as installation proceeds. Products should not be stored outside

Product should be stored close to the location the item will be installed or in a location with the same moisture levels to allow the product to acclimatise to the surrounding area: it is recommended that products should be stored for 2 – 3 weeks in the final location to allow the movement in the product to stabilise. It should be noted that even with the above recommended steps the doors/ doorsets may still need final adjustments when the building / location comes into use, as the environmental conditions will change Moisture levels All timber doors, assemblies / sets are manufactured and supplied from the factory with a moisture content of 10 -12% for internal use. The Applicable standard on this subject is BS EN 942:1996 Timber in Joinery General classification of Timber Quality. It is recommended that internal joinery products are not brought to site until moisture readings are between 40 and 60% RH and until after any forced-drying procedure has been completed. We do not recommend the use of gas fire heaters on site due to the release of both carbon dioxide and water vapour, with the later adding more moisture to the air. For further guidance refer to Humidity Guidance table within this these guidelines.

Handling Our products are designed for forklift off-loading and will be supplied banded in stacks for ease of distribution. Our products can be heavy and difficult to manoeuvre, therefore please ensure to take extra care to avoid damage to the product and take all necessary measures to prevent injury to site personnel, always work in accordance with sites manual handling policy. Avoid any damage caused by heavy contact with the ground, wear clean gloves to avoid leaving finger marks.

Stacking Door leaves, assemblies / sets: Do not store standing upright or leaning as this will causes bowing, edge and corner damage.

Stack Horizontally on level supports that extend across the full width of the bottom, provide support at the centre and at 300mm from each end of the product. Cover all supports with appropriate protection cardboard or similar to prevent marking.

Should products be required to be restacked, stack with the largest item at the bottom with size reduction up the stack, extra care and attention will be required to ensure adequate protection / batten is added allowing for any protruding hardware or glazing system to allow clearance.

Covering Note exposure to light will fade timber, therefore cover stacks with opaque sheeting to prevent fading and keep doors clean, this is very important on veneered / fully finished doors, assemblies / sets. It is not recommended to apply any Self-Adhesive products to the door, frame, assembly or set as this could remove the finish applied to door facing, edges frame etc.

Priming and Sealing Note exposure to light will fade timber, therefore cover stacks with opaque sheeting to prevent fading and keep doors clean, this is very important on veneered / fully finished doors, assemblies / sets. It is not recommended to apply any Self-Adhesive products to the door, frame, assembly or set as this could remove the finish applied to door facing, edges frame etc.

Looking After Your Door Kit How to maintain & care for your door Door leaves are supplied fully-finished and are also edge-banded along the two vertical edges. Door leaves must be regularly cleaned with a dampened cloth. Non-abrasive detergents must be used. How to maintain your locks and latches Clean your locks and latches with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive detergents. Please note, that locks and latches should be lubricated twice a year. To lubricate the lock, retract the latch by depressing the handle. Next, apply a light lubricating oil in the opening created between the for-end of the lock and the angled side of the latch. Open and close the door twice in order to distribute the lubricant around the mechanism. How to maintain your hinges Clean hinges with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive detergents. Regularly ensure fixings are secure and apply lubricant twice a year to the hinge pin washers. Wipe away any excess lubricant with a dry cloth or tissue. Open and close the door twice in order to distribute the lubricant around the hinges. Glazed Door kits All glazed panels are toughened in accordance with en 12150-2 (2004).

How to maintain & care for your fire door Just like any fire protection device, it is essential that a fire door performs correctly in the event of a fire. A fire door should be regularly checked to ensure it functions correctly. A fire door is just like any other door and is subjected to daily wear and tear. It is, therefore, important to check that the fire door is correctly functioning regularly. Any slight alteration or damage to the fire door, frame or its ancillary components can affect the performance, resulting in a thirty-minute fire door lasting a lot less in the event of a fire. It is advised, therefore, that the fire door leaf, frame, intumescents and ironmongery are checked and maintained regularly. Fire Door Certification Our doorkits are manufactured under approved third party schemes and have been independently tested and certificated as proof that the doorkit will act correctly in the event of a fire. Fire Door Checklist Door & frame: ensure that the door leaf is square in the frame and has not shrunk, twisted or warped. Ensure that there are no gaps exceeding 3mm either side, top and bottom between the door leaf and the door frame. Damage: slight damage to the door face can be repaired; any major damage to the door leaf, frame, intumescents or fire-rated ironmongery may result in the complete doorkit requiring replacement. Intumescent strips: badly fitted or damaged strips must be replaced.
