MAY/JUNE 1987 No5

OFFICE ’87 — The show that never was! Office ’87 at Olympia at the beginning of June was, from the micrographics point of view at least, a complete non-event. I attended on the Thursday which, I was told, had been, up till then, the busiest day. There were approximately 70 exhibitors taking part and they appeared to outnumber the visitors. Only two of those exhibitors were specifically involved in the microfilm trade — namely MAB Services Ltd. 'and Genneg Associates (The Microfilm Shop) - though Amerson Ltd. of Bristol, who were also there, manufacture filing cabinets and do supply the micrographics industry with very attractive microfiche storage cabinets. Normally at this point I bore my readers with outrageous name dropping, mentioning all the relevant people that I meet, however briefly. On this occasion, though, 1 met no visitors and therefore spent my day talking to Archie Menzies and Mike Brinn of MAB, John Negus and Dave Liggins of Genneg and Robert Anderson of Amerson. One advantage of a show with poor attendance is that the service at the bar is excellent. The only light relief was the re-appearance of Wayne Greaves, the robotic dancer who was such a success at Info ’87, this time he was distributing literature on behalf of Genneg Associates. Office ’87 was, in fact, the final exhibition to be organised jointly by BED and BEITA — perhaps this was reflected by a lack of enthusiasm, by either party, to promote the show. The outcome of this exhibition seems to underline the importance of the resurgence of specialised micrographics trade shows (see front page article in March/April issue of MMP), if you agree please write and tell us so that we can assess the support for such a venture.
