SkYE Talk: Issues Unpacked SkYE Programme Impact Issue 06 The Skills for Youth Employment (SkYE) Programme in the Caribbean aimed to develop a more productive, better trained and inclusive workforce across four countries in the Eastern Caribbean - St Vincent & the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Dominica and Grenada – through developing relevant skills among young men and women, including disadvantaged youth and young people with disabilities. It accomplished this through the award of grants to training providers to deliver training leading to recognised certificates, in skills required for work in priority economic sectors. SkYE grants also funded targetted inclusion strategies e.g. transport costs, adapted equipment, specialist assistant instructors. Training providers formed partnerships with employers to offer work placements and internships, and delivered qualifications awarded by recognised certification bodies. The diagram on the next page summarises the results of the SkYE Programme and the impact achieved in the lives of young people in the four Caribbean nations that delivered the programme.

The Skills for Youth Employment (SkYE) Programme in the Caribbean is a 5-year programme funded by UK aid (2018 to 2023) which aims to develop a more productive, better trained and inclusive workforce across four countries- St Vincent & the Grenadines, St Lucia, Dominica and Grenada. The objective of the programme is to develop relevant market skills among young people (aged 15-30) in the Eastern Caribbean to promote greater youth employment, greater productivity and greater inclusiveness in the labour market, including better training and employment access for disadvantaged youth and people with disabilities. The programme aims to improve the quality, reach and sustainability of technical and vocational education and training in the four focus countries.
