No se trata únicamente de una cita con el cine español, pues el Festival también propone una mirada al cine latinoamericano y a las voces surgidas de un continente que se expresa mayoritariamente en español. Mientras tanto, un destacamento español permanece sitiado en el pueblo de Baler por insurrectos filipinos durante 337 días sin saber que la guerra ha terminado.

In December 1898, with the signing of the Treaty of Paris, Spain ceded sovereignty over Philippines to the United States. Meanwhile, a Spanish detachment was sieged in the village of Baler by Filipino revolutionary insurgents for 337 days without knowing that the war was over.

SALLY GUTIÉRREZ The film will be presented by director Sally Gutiérrez, who will hold a Q&A session with the audience after the screening.

Sally Gutiérrez Dewar es una artista visual que trabaja en un campo híbrido entre el arte contemporáneo y el cine de no-ficción. Sus videos y películas se han mostrado en festivales de cine, museos y galerías, universidades, ONGS, asociaciones y colectivos diversos. Tapologo, su primer largo documental, rodado en Sudáfrica y dirigido con su hermana Gabriela, ganó ocho premios internacionales y se proyectó en más de 60 festivales de cine.

Sally Gutierrez Dewar is a visual artist working in the field between non-fiction film and contemporary art. Gutierrez’s videos have been shown at international film festivals, galleries, museums, TV channels, NGO's and universities. Her first feature length documentary feature film, Tapologo, co-directed with her sister Gabriela, received eight international awards & was screened in over 60 film festivals/ museums.

Nacido en Madrid el 12 de agosto de 1970 y Licenciado en Ciencias de la Información, Salvador Calvo estudió dirección de actores con la cineasta Pilar Miró y, posteriormente, con la actriz y directora Alicia Hermida de la Barroca. Inició su carrera en la dirección en series de televisión como Policías en el corazón de la calle (2001), Una nueva vida (2002) o Casi perfectos (2003). Tras dirigir su primera película de TV en 2006, titulada Masala, continuó trabajando en seriales de televisión y en 2016 dirigió su primer largometraje: 1898. Los últimos de Filipinas.

Born in Madrid on August 12 1970 and Bachelor in Information Sciences, Salvador Calvo studied Film Directing with filmmaker Pilar Miró and, afterwards, with actress and director Alicia Hermida de la Barroca.

He began his directing career in television series like Policías en el corazón de la calle (2001), Una nueva vida (2002), or Casi perfectos (2003). Desde su creación en 2002, ha apostado por el fortalecimiento de los puentes culturales que facilitan el conocimiento y el diálogo entre Filipinas y el mundo hispanohablante. A través de nuestra sección Encuentros en el cine, varios cineastas latinoamericanos y españoles han presentado sus obras en el Festival. ha servido además de plataforma para la difusión del cine filipino, acogiendo estrenos de directores locales: Barcelona (2006), de Gil Portes; Happyland (2010), de Jim Libiran; Buenas noches, España (2011), de Raya Martin; o el cortometraje Nakaw (2016), de Noel Escondo y Arvin Belarmino.

Since its creation in 2002, has worked for strenghthening the cultural bridges that facilitate both the knowledge and dialogue between the Philippines and the Spanish-speaking world. Al final

La vida de Joaquín, un hombre en silla de ruedas, parece estar mejorando desde el día en que alquiló una de las habitaciones de su casa a Berta, bailarina de striptease, y a su hija Betty. Su presencia alegra el hogar y anima la vida de Joaquín. Una noche, mientras trabaja en el sótano, Joaquín se da cuenta de que una banda de delincuentes está construyendo un túnel que pasa bajo su casa con la intención de robar un banco cercano. Joaquín comienza a ejecutar un plan contrarreloj con el fin de intentar frustrar los propósitos de los ladrones.

The life of Joaquin, a man in a wheelchair, seems to be improving since the day he rented one of the rooms in his house to Berta, a stripper, and her daughter Betty.

Their presence makes the house happy and encourages Joaquin’s life. One night, while working in his basement, Joaquin realizes that a band of criminals are building a tunnel that passes under his house with the intention of robbing a nearby bank.

Joaquin begins then to execute a plan against the clock in order to try to frustrate the intentions of the band.

En Argentina, Mozambique y Filipinas tres chicos jóvenes tienen trabajos que los deprimen, pero van abriendo sus miradas hacia otros elementos y puntos de vista de un mundo que antes no percibían, un mundo tan cotidiano como mágico.

Buenos Aires. Exe, 25 years old, has just lost his job and is not looking for another one. His neighbors and friends seem as odd to him as they always do. Online, he meets Alf, a boy from Mozambique who is also bored with his job and who is about to follow Archie, another boy who has run away into the jungle. Through the dense vegetation of the forest, Archie tracks ants back to their nest. One of them wanders off course and comes across Canh, a Filipino, who is about to go back to his strange, beautiful home town and who also has a boring job. In Argentina, Mozambique and the Philippines, three young boys have jobs that depress them but they start focusing in other elements and points of view of a world they did not perceive before, an ordinary and magical world at the same time.

Daniel Mantovani, escritor argentino galardonado con el Premio Nobel de Literatura, hace cuarenta años que abandonó su pueblo y partió hacia Europa, donde triunfó retratando con crudeza la vida en su localidad natal, Salas, y sus habitantes. Un día llega una carta del alcalde de Salas invitándole a recibir la distinción de "Ciudadano Ilustre" de la localidad y Mantovani, contra todo pronóstico, decide cancelar su apretada agenda y aceptar la invitación. En el pueblo, a su llegada, no lo reciben con el entusiasmo y cariño que esperaba.

Daniel Mantovani, an Argentinian writer who won the Nobel Prize for Literature, left his town forty years ago and went to Europe, where he triumphed writing about life in his native town, Salas, and his characters. One day a letter from the mayor of Salas arrives inviting him to receive the distinction of “Illustrious Citizen” of the town and Mantovani, against all odds, decides to cancel his busy agenda and accept the invitation. In the village, upon his arrival, people do not receive him with the enthusiasm and affection he was expecting.

El comienzo 30

Antonio y Bertha son una pareja de ancianos que ronda los noventa. Sus problemas inician cuando les retiran las pensiones debido a la crisis social y financiera que vive el país. Ante la necesidad de subsistir solos ya que a sus dos hijos no los han visto desde hace varios años, se ven en la dura necesidad de vender sus pertenencias, preparar comida callejera y hasta robar. La vida de los dos ancianos cambia cuando su hijo Jonás y su nieto Paco, ausentes por más de diez años, aparecen inesperadamente.

Antonio and Bertha are an elderly couple in their nineties who find themselves in deep trouble when pensions are suspended due to a social and financial crisis in their country. Given they haven't seen their two children for many years, the couple is confronted with the need to survive on their own and must face the hard reality of selling their belongings and peddling tamales on the street or turn to crime. The lives of the elderly couple change when their son Jonas and grandson Paco, absent for more than ten years, unexpectedly reappear in their lives.

El hombre de

Francisco Paesa, ex agente secreto responsable de una de las operaciones más importantes de la historia contra ETA, se ve envuelto en un caso de extorsión en plena crisis de los GAL y tiene que huir del país.
