ACCOLADES TOP QUALITY UHC AWARD Houston Methodist is the recipient of a top quality award from UHC, an alliance of the nation’s leading academic medical centers. This year, UHC ranked Houston Methodist No. 8 among 102 peer hospitals — our highest ranking since the award was established in 2005.

AANS TOP HONORS FOR RESIDENTS IN TOP GUN COMPETITION Two neurosurgical residents, Brandon Liebelt, MD, and Sean Barber, MD, have thoroughly surpassed their competition to win best overall team in this year’s Tenth Annual Neurosurgical Top Gun Competition at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) meeting.

In 2015, Houston Methodist Hospital’s Rehabilitation Services’ facility was awarded full accreditation in the areas of Adult Inpatient Rehabilitation Program as well as the Stroke Specialty Program.

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognize Houston Methodist Hospital for achieving 85 percent or higher compliance with all Get With The Guidelines®Stroke Achievement Measures and 75 percent or higher compliance with five or more Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Quality Measures.

NEW HIRES GLENN ANDERSON, MD, joined Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital as medical director of neurosurgery. Anderson has practiced neurosurgery for more than 13 years and has extensive experience in the fields of brain tumors, cerebral aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations.

TETSUO ASHIZAWA, MD, joined the Houston Methodist Neurological Institute as director of neuroscience research. Ashizawa, formerly executive director of the McKnight Brain Institute at the University of Florida, organized and developed interdisciplinary neuroscience research programs involving multiple colleges and departments. As a physician-scientist, he is studying neurogenetic disorders caused by expansions of DNA sequences that are connected end-to-end and abnormally repeated. VERONICA J. BURTON, PhD, joined Houston Methodist as a board-certified neuropsychologist with extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of neurological and psychological disorders.

MICHELLE DANG, MD, an anesthesiologist with a special interest in interventional pain management, joined the Pain Management Center in the Houston Methodist Neurological Institute. Dang is board certified in anesthesiology.
