ften people needlessly delay in filing claims that result in loss of benefits. When a person becomes disabled and expect to be unable to work for at least 12 months, a claim should be filed at the earliest opportunity. We like to become involved as early in the process as possible.

Anyone even considering filing a claim for Disability should call S&A. The attorneys here will be glad to discuss it with you and answer any questions you may have about the claim filing process. The Social Security Disability claims process is difficult to understand and navigate. Few doctors understand the process. WHAT IS HEART FAILURE?

eart failure is a continual disease that takes place when your heart muscle becomes weak and cannot pump blood well. Also, when the heart is not able to relax properly, blood gets backed up in the heart. Some people have both problems. Lifestyle changes contribute to heart health, and medications can help improve heart function and prevent fluid build-up. Heart failure does not go away. Heart failure can be managed with medication, by decreasing sodium in your diet and limiting your fluid intake. A good tool to measure how well you are managing your Heart failure is by weighing yourself daily. You will also need to monitor for swelling and shortness of breath.

DIAGNOSIS

HEART FAILURE USUALLY OCCURS OVER TIME AND CAN BE CAUSED BY:

Your physician will monitor your EF periodically.

• Heart attack • High blood pressure • Heart valve disease or infection • Heart damage from alcohol or drug abuse • Diabetes • Abnormal heart rhythms • Lung disease • Thyroid disease • Smoking • Old age • Idiopathic conditions • Viruses • High cholesterol

ALWAYS KNOW YOUR EF!

The heart failure diagnosis is usually made with an Echocardiogram (ECHO). An ECHO is an ultrasound of your heart. This ultrasound allows the doctor to look at how well the heart muscle is moving and how well the heart valves are opening and closing.

An ECHO also measures heart function or ejection fraction (EF). A normal EF is 50-70 percent and is the percentage of blood that is pumped out of your heart with each beat. Be sure to ask your doctor what your EF is, and keep it in your records.

Good news! Your EF may increase when you make heart healthy changes in your lifestyle and with medications.

LEARNING ABOUT DIABETES

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW HEALTHY EATING Having diabetes doesn’t mean you have to give up your favorite foods or stop eating in restaurants. But you need to educate yourself to know how different foods affect your blood glucose and how you can incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle.

BEING ACTIVE Being active has many health benefits including; losing weight, lowering cholesterol, improving blood pressure, and lowering stress and anxiety.

Physical activity can also help keep your diabetes in control by helping to keep blood glucose levels normal.

MONITORING Checking your blood glucose levels regularly will help you make daily de-

cisions about your diabetes management by letting you know how food, medicine, and exercise are affecting your blood glucose. It will also help you know when your blood glucose levels are on target. Always bring your blood glucose logs to your appointments to share with your healthcare providers.

TAKING MEDICATION There are several types of medications that are often recommended for people with diabetes. Insulin and pills that affect your blood glucose along with blood pressure medication and cholesterol-lowering medication, work together to keep your blood glucose in target and reduce your risk of complications. Learning how each medication works and how to take each medication is important to keep

you safe and to make sure your medications are working for you.

REDUCING RISKS Having diabetes puts you at a higher risk for developing other health problems or diabetes-related complications. However, if you understand the risks, you can take steps now to lower your chance of diabetes-related complications.

HEALTHY COPING Diabetes can affect you emotionally as well as physically. It’s normal to have mixed feelings about your diabetes management and to experience ups and downs. It is important to recognize these feelings and take steps to reduce the negative impact they can have on your diabetes care.

When Only the BEST IN MEDICAL CARE Will Do

lbert Memorial Hospital offers our Swing Bed Program to patients who would benefit from skilled care services in order to reach their highest potential for health and independence prior to returning to their previous living arrangement.

Swing Bed services are classified as short-term stay and are provided once acute hospital care is no longer required, but the patient continues to need services that cannot be easily provided in the patient’s home.

Elbert Memorial Hospital offers this program for patients who require one or more of the following services: skilled physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, IV medication therapy, wound care, or other skilled care services.

Swing bed admission requirements for Medicare include: a three day acute care hospital stay within 30 days prior to admittance into the Swing bed program, stable medical status, a daily skilled care needs (or five days per week for rehab), physician authorization, and participation in Medicare Part A, or other qualified insurance plan.

If you are insured by a Medicare Replacement Plan or Commercial Insurance Plan, these plans may not require the Medicare requirement of the 3 day qualifying stay. Examples of these insurance plans are Humana, United Healthcare or Aetna.

The skilled nursing team our facility provides includes: the patient and their family, physician, nurses, social services, dietitian, skilled physical therapist and physical therapist assistant, occupational therapist, speech therapist, respiratory therapist, and wound care specialist. We also provide various social activities and we welcome suggestions for activities the patient might enjoy. W

hen facing surgery or a major medical event, such as a heart attack, stroke or hip replacement, choosing the right location to recover is an important part of the healing process.

Morgan Medical Center’s transitional care program offers high-quality inpatient care for those recovering from a variety of major surgeries or medical issues. Also known as our “swing bed” program, our transitional care team helps patients regain their strength and prepare to move home for continued recovery.

Our team of physicians, therapists, dietitians and case managers works closely with each patient’s referring doctor to ensure we deliver the appropriate specialized care needed for re-

covery. Our goal is to help our patients transition home as soon as they are able, so we cater our therapy routines to individual abilities to help speed the recovery period. Our team provides physical, occupational, speech, and/ or recreational therapy twice daily for up to three hours each day.

Modern, Comfortable Recovery Spaces MMC’s newly built facility offers patients a more comfortable, home-like environment for rehabilitation. Private rooms and bathrooms are equipped with smart bed technology, which includes bed alarms and other safety features, to reduce risks of falls and other injuries.

Movement is an important element of the healing process. Our therapy spaces are designed to help patients practice a variety of upperand lower-body movements. Our indoor therapy gym features new equipment to work multiple muscle groups. A specially designed outdoor therapy garden provides a functional space to practice walking, movement and balance.

Because mental and emotional health are crucial to the healing process, our certified recreational therapist coordinates daily activities and social interactions to maintain engagement.

Patients enjoy games, art projects, outdoor activities, hair and nail services and visits from therapy dogs.

For those who can’t receive regular visitors due to COVID-19 or other reasons, we ensure patients stay con-

nected to family members through social media, email and video calls.

Patients in Morgan’s transitional care program also benefit from roundthe-clock access to an on-site physician, as well as the hospital’s emergency care, diagnostic department and in-house pharmacy.

Receiving Care at MMC Individuals throughout Georgia choose MMC for transitional care. For Sandi Bell, local access to personalized care gave her comfort and confidence during her mother’s recovery at Morgan.

The role of hearing in developing speech, language and academic skills is well recognized. Even a mild hearing loss can affect a child’s ability to develop language skills and can interfere with learning at all grade levels. Fortunately, tremendous progress has been made in early identification of hearing loss. According to a report from the Deafness Research Foundation and the World Council on Hearing Health, nearly nine out of 10 babies get hearing tests at birth. Each year, more than 12,000 infants in the United States -- one in 300 -- are born with a hearing impairment. Of these, 4,000 are profoundly deaf. In fact, hearing loss is the number one birth defect in the United States.

Hearing Loss At Work Hearing loss in the workplace makes it more difficult to participate at meetings, to talk with clients on the telephone or to understand what fellow workers are saying. A nurse has to hear what the patient is saying and a waiter has to hear the food order. Problems at work, lost or reduced productivity, and even missed promotions are additional costs of hearing loss.

Undetected hearing loss can cause the greatest problems. The person may confuse names, numbers and dates. The undetected hearing loss can make someone

look confused, uncooperative or stupid. (‘How could you possibly have thought the meeting was on the 16th? Everyone else heard me say it was on the 15th. Why don’t you pay attention?)

Hearing Loss At Home Hearing loss can cause a great deal of stress and friction among family members, especially when the hearing loss is undetected or untreated. How often has a family member said, “You only hear me when you want to’ or “Why don’t you pay attention to what I say anymore?” How many people complain that their husband or wife turns the television up too loud—and the spouse insists that it’s not? How many children finally decide it’s just too difficult to communicate with Mom and Dad and a family relationship begins to deteriorate?

The stress and frustration caused by hearing loss can lead to isolation and divorce. According to a large study by the National Council on Aging, someone with untreated hearing loss is more likely to be socially isolated, feel anxious and feel depressed than someone with hearing loss who has gotten help.

The Good News The good news is that a great deal of help is available today. Tests to determine hearing loss are very advanced and hearing aids have

f a physician recommends home health care for a loved one, you may have a lot of questions about how it works.

“Receiving professional health care at home is becoming increasingly popular,” says Christopher MacInnis, Senior Vice President of Hospice and Home Health for PruittHealth.

“Not only is it less expensive, but it’s also generally what patients want.

Which patients are good candidates for this type of care?

Patients often receive home health care after hospitalization, rehabilitation or a stay in a skilled nursing facility when they might still need assistance. It helps patients recover AT HOME. What are the advantages of home health care?

Aside from the benefits of being in comfortable, familiar surroundings, patients actually recover from surgery faster. They’re also less likely to get an infection. The patient receives individualized attention on a convenient schedule, and it’s also just a fraction of the cost of a stay in a medical facility.

What’s the difference between home health, and personal care?

Home health care provides skilled nursing services like therapy, administration of medication, health monitoring, pain management, surgical wound care, and medical testing. It’s

usually not intended to be longterm care. Personal care, sometimes called home care, provides help with non-medical issues like delivering meals, house cleaning, personal hygiene, and companionship.

How can I choose a good home health care provider?

Gather information on the providers’ history, management, and licensing; discuss what services will be provided and when and whether the nurses and therapists will help train family members on how to care for the patient. Get references and check them.

Who pays for home health care?

Many types of private insurance, Medicare, and the V.A. cover home health care, although these benefits usually last only until the patient is stable and no longer requires ongoing medical attention. If the patient has longterm care insurance, this may be extended. And for those without

insurance, there are other options, including state programs and public agencies that offer financial assistance for low-income seniors.

What services does a home health nurse provide?

Home health offers skilled care provided by a licensed nurse, including post-op wound care, assessing the patient’s health, administering medications, and generally carrying out the physician’s orders. But the nurse will also teach the patient and the family how to manage medical equipment and give injections.

Physical, speech, and occupational therapies are also provided to help get patients more mobile; to get them speaking again after a stroke or other debilitating event; and to improve fine motor skills that allow them to feed and dress themselves.

How do we get started with home health care?

Once your loved one’s doctor recommends home health care, you’ll receive a list of agencies.

The Medicare website offers a tool for comparing these home health providers. Research, verify, and finally, talk to the insurance provider about what is covered.”

If you’re overweight, will you always develop type 2 diabetes?

Being overweight is a risk factor for developing diabetes, but other risk factors such as how much physical activity you get, family history, ethnicity, and age also play a role.

2. Is diabetes caused by eating sugar?

A diet high in calories from any source (including sugar) contributes to weight gain and weight gain increases your risk for type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is caused by genetics and unknown factors that trigger the onset of the disease. Type 2 diabetes is not caused by sugar, but by genetics and lifestyle factors.

3. Do sugary drinks cause diabetes?

Research has also shown that drinking sugary drinks is linked to type 2 diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association recommends that people avoid drinking sugar-sweetened beverages to help prevent type 2 diabetes.

4. Is diabetes a serious disease?

Diabetes causes more deaths per year than breast cancer and AIDS combined, and having diabetes nearly doubles your chance of having a heart attack.

5. Do people with diabetes need to eat special foods?

A healthy meal plan for people with diabetes is generally the same as healthy eating for anyone – low in saturated fat, moderate in salt and sugar, with meals based on lean protein, non-starchy vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats, and fruit.

6. If you have diabetes, do you have to only eat small amounts of starchy foods, such as bread, potatoes and pasta?

Starchy foods can be part of a healthy meal plan, but portion size is key. Breads, cereals,

pasta, rice (whole grain options are better), and starchy vegetables like potatoes, yams, peas, and corn can be included in your meals and snacks.

How much carbohydrate can a person with diabetes eat?

The amount of carbohydrate you need will vary based on many factors. Let your health care team figure out the right amount for you.

8. Can people with diabetes eat sweets or chocolate?

If eaten as part of a healthy meal plan, or combined with exercise, sweets and desserts can be eaten by people with diabetes. The key to sweets is to have a very small portion and save them for special occasions so you focus your meal on more healthful foods.

9. Can you catch diabetes from someone else?

No. Although we don’t know exactly why some people develop diabetes and others don’t, we know diabetes is not contagious.

10. Are people with diabetes more likely to get colds and other illnesses?

You are no more likely to get a cold or another illness if you have diabetes.

11. If you have type 2 diabetes and your doctor says you need to start using insulin, does it mean you’re failing to take care of your diabetes properly?

Using insulin to get blood glucose levels to a healthy level is a good thing, not a bad one.

12. Fruit is a healthy food, so is it ok to eat as much of it as you want?

Because fruits contain carbohydrates, they do raise blood glucose and that needs to be taken into consideration when meal planning. Still, fruit is a healthy food containing fiber and lots of vitamins and minerals.

Why Can’t I Get a Good Night’s Sleep?

SLEEP APNEA People with sleep apnea have short pauses in breathing while they are asleep. These pauses may happen many times during the night. If not treated, sleep apnea can lead to other problems, such as high blood pressure, stroke, or memory loss. You DEEPAK DAS, M.D. can have sleep apnea and not even know it. Feeling sleepy during the day and being told you are snoring loudly at night could be signs that you have sleep apnea.

If you think you have sleep apnea, see a doctor who can treat this sleep problem. You may need to learn to sleep in a position that keeps your airways open. Treatment using a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device almost always helps people with sleep apnea. A dental device or surgery may also help.

MOVEMENT DISORDERS AND SLEEP Restless legs syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, and rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder are common in older adults. These movement disorders can rob you of needed sleep. People with restless legs syndrome, or RLS, feel like there is tingling, crawling, or pins and needles in one or both legs. This feeling is worse at night. See your doctor for more information about medicines to treat RLS. Periodic limb movement disorder, or PLMD, causes people to jerk and kick their legs every 20 to 40 seconds during sleep. Medication, warm baths, exercise, and relaxation exercises can help.

Rapid eye movement, or REM, sleep behavior disorder is another condition that may make it harder to get a good night’s sleep. During normal REM sleep, your muscles cannot move, so your body stays still. But, if you have REM sleep behavior disorder, your muscles can move and your sleep is disrupted.

W

hen Shirley and Ervin Treadway first met in Tampa in 1953, it was virtually love at first sight. Was it Synchronicity, happenstance or Divine Guidance? Certainly, they would find out in many different ways over their years together—65 years, in fact. It would take two years for them to finally marry for Ervin was at the beginning of his 20-year military career and was shipped off to the Philippines. Sure enough, though, two years later they were married in the Baptist Church in Tampa on May 1, 1955.

Over their lives together, 20 years were spent in the military, taking them and their three sons to many exotic places. The next 20 years would be spent in education and the last 20 in very active retirement.

They have been to more than 55 countries, lived in many places, including Alaska and are still looking for travel adventure. Both of them love history, travel, adventure and… just being together.

SYNCHRONICITIES Small events of synchronicity at first, led to bigger events. Living in their first garage apartment in 1955, they went out for a “cheap date night” and ended up at the Louisiana Hayride where an unknown Elvis Presley was performing. Later,

when they were in the Washington DC area, they saw Conway Twitty performing on the back of a flatbed truck! But, these kinds of “being in the right place at the right time” events continued. While stationed in Athens Greece, they took advantage of the small bowling alley on the base, only to find out they were bowling with the Prince at the time.

In Alaska, they crossed paths with the Emperor of Japan.

DIVINE GUIDANCE Shirley and Ervin were destined to be together and experience these “synchronicities” in their lives intertwined. Ultimately, everything came full-circle. It started at first with a membership in Ancestry. com. They found that they both came from the same places in Europe. They started traveling around to check out leads on lineage and ancestry. They found out that Ervin was from a direct lineage back to Nathaniel Treadway in 1604. Shirley’s 8th great grandfather, Edward Rossen had been secretary of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and also sat on the Salem witch trials!

What a remarkable discovery! But the synchronicity only gets better!

After Shirley and Ervin did much research while visiting Massachusetts, the greatest synchronicity of all emerged…Shirley and Ervin’s

ancestors lived on land grants that bordered each other They had been NEXT-DOOR NEIGHBORS” of a sort back in the early 1600’s. Four hundred years later, the two came together and the rest is history!

Now the couple is enjoying life to the fullest in retirement at Iris Place in Athens. They still love the ability to travel, enjoy their large family and most of all, enjoy each other. When asked what they like the most about living at Iris Place, Ervin will flatly state “Independence”. Shirley, however, is a little more specific…”I like NOT having to do the dishes, or wash the linens…

ransitioning to a skilled nursing facility from a hospital stay can bring a feeling of unease for patients and their families.

Understanding the basic differences in these highlyspecialized care centers can help ease discomfort and help patients successfully prepare for the benefits they will receive while staying in a skilled nursing facility.

Focus of Care The primary purpose of a hospital is dealing with acute care focused on diagnosis, treatment and cure.

However, they often lack the resources to deal with continuing functional improvement. That’s where skilled nursing facilities step in to provide rehabilitation, therapy and/or assistance with daily living activities.

“Family and caregivers can play an important role for their loved ones during the transition to a skilled nursing facility,” says a Nick Williams, Chief Operations Officer for PruittHealth, noting that clear communication can help both parties during a transition. “Asking for a record of medications a patient was taking in the hospital, as well as relaying information to skilled nursing staff about a patient’s mobility, diet and procedures are a crucial step in getting a patient settled in the fastest time possible.”

Skilled nursing facilities are regulated and inspected by the state, and the staff to patient ratio is generally smaller than that of a hospi-

tal. The skilled services of a nursing facility are varied and could include wound care, intravenous medications, physical, speech or language therapy and round the clock physician care

Length of Stay Hospitals handle a wide-range of medical conditions, so stays are intended to be just long enough to discharge the patient to another level of care or to see them back home. When a patient requires extensive or ongoing therapy, a skilled nursing facility can provide targeted treatment and therapy.

One in four Medicaid patients is discharged to a skilled nursing facility,1 but the length of stay in such a facility is also variable. Some patients may benefit from a short recovery stay involving therapy and rehabilitation, with the goal of returning home. Other patients will benefit from a host of the same services coupled with round the clock care for an extended period.

How Skilled Nursing Fits in to Your Recovery Plan

How to choose a skilled nursing facility When selecting the best skilled nursing facility for your loved one, it’s important to ask the following questions.

Services - Does the location have everything required to care for your loved one?

Credentials - Is the facility licensed in the state in which it resides? Does the center accept Medicare and Medicaid coverage? Does the center feature a quality assurance program? Will they allow you to review the center’s recent state survey? Has the center received any awards?

Amenities - What is the age of the building? Will your loved one have a private or semi-private room? How’s the menu? Are special requests allowed? Is there Wi-Fi? Staff - How well do the staff and residents interact? Are the physicians and nurse practitioners on staff? How many RNs are on staff and what is their ratio per patient? Do the various therapists work on staff? If not, how many days a week are they on site?

Comfort level - Do you and your loved one find the facility warm and welcoming? Do you feel comfortable leaving your family member there to live?

killed nursing centers offer long-term or short-term care options. Some residents may come in with a plan to stay indefinitely. Other residents stay temporarily, often because of short-term medical conditions that require care in an assisted living setting.

High level of medical care Skilled nursing care is a high level of medical care. It is generally too complex to be provided in the home setting by family members. At such facilities, nursing staff is onhand to provide all of the necessary care for a chronic or temporary health condition. These services include 24/7 nursing coverage for medical conditions that require constant monitoring.

Skilled nursing services provided include carrying out medical orders as prescribed by physicians such as wound care, injections, intravenous (IV) therapy and monitoring medical equipment and vital signs. In addition, they may provide physical therapy and occupational therapy which focuses on improving fine motor skills and includes those tasks that require use of the upper body, like eating and brushing teeth and hair. Speech therapy may also available.

Following a stroke, your loved one may need to learn how to speak or swallow again.

General nursing supervision and care Even if your loved one doesn’t require care for a particular condition, the professionals at a skilled nursing facility will ensure that he or she stays healthy. For instance, staff will help ensure that residents keep cool and hydrated during the summer heat. They will also see that your loved one takes his or her medications on schedule.

When is a transition to nursing care advisable?

If your loved one was hospitalized, an assessment regarding care can be done before discharge. Various reasons to consider expert away-from-home care include the need for rehabilitation services, such as for a fracture or joint replacement, or diabetic or stroke treatment. Acute medical conditions also often require a facility, such for wound or respiratory care. Individuals with terminal illnesses or conditions that become progressively worse, such as Parkinson’s, are also good candidates for a skilled nursing facility.

or many, the word “hospice” is synonymous with death and hopelessness.

But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Good hospice care is about celebrating life and making the most out of each day with loved ones and family.

What is hospice care?

Hospice care offers terminally ill patients the opportunity to live as comfortably and pain-free as possible. Likewise, palliative care concentrates on reducing the severity of symptoms or slowing a disease’s progress for the chronically ill, rather than trying to find a cure. Both forms of care ultimately have the same goal: to relieve suffering and improve the patient’s quality of life.

Hospice care takes a holistic approach and aims to treat the “whole person”. That means supporting a patient not only physically, but also emotionally, spiritually and mentally.

“Quality hospice programs have interdisciplinary teams consisting of nurses, social workers, chaplains, certified nursing assistants, volunteers and physicians,” says Christopher MacInnis, Senior Vice President of Hospice and Home Health for PruittHealth. “Together, team members combine their exper-

tise to develop an individualized care plan”.

In a hospice care setting, team members work together to address problems as they arise.

For example, if a patient’s pain worsens, nurses and doctors may tweak medications, while a social worker may provide mindbody coping techniques. Or if a patient feels depressed or hopeless, doctors may prescribe antidepressants, the chaplain may offer pastoral support and social workers and volunteers can offer emotional support.

Types of hospice care “Many people think receiving hospice care involves moving to an assisted living facility, but that is only one option,” says MacInnis for PruittHealth. “Each type of hospice care is designed to meet the needs of the hospice patient and family.”

There are four different levels of hospice care: Routine hospice care (home and health care center): If a patient has a loved one or family member who can stay home and help manage care, they may choose routine hospice home care. In this situation, a hospice team member will make regular visits and provide care as

needed. But patients who need long-term care can seek routine hospice care at health care centers (also known as nursing homes). Health care center and home patients are offered all the same multidisciplinary services, education and support.

Inpatient Care: Inpatient care may be necessary for pain control and symptom management. Once symptoms are under control, the patient may return home.

Continuous Care: Continuous care provides skilled nursing during times of crisis or for pain and symptom management with a goal of avoiding hospitalization.

Respite care: Respite care offers the home caregiver a break from their duties. Medicare will pay for five consecutive days of respite care at a time.

growing percentage of Americans have a mental, physical or developmental disability. For these individuals and their families, planning for long-term care can be difficult and confusing. Family members who wish to financially contribute to an individual’s care may not realize that doing so could jeopardize the individual’s continued receipt of public assistance such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid.

Thankfully, special needs trusts offer a solution to this problem, providing a means of financial support without impacting the individual’s access to critical public assistance.

What is a special needs trust?

A special needs trust is a type of trust designed to hold assets on behalf of a person with a disability (the beneficiary).

A special needs trust can be created “inter vivos” (while the person creating the trust is still living) or at death through a Will. In the trust agreement, the person creating the trust (called the “grantor” or “settlor”) appoints a trustee to manage and distribute the trust assets in accordance with specific instructions. To ensure continued qualification for public assistance, a special needs trust must be carefully drafted to include detailed instructions regarding when and how trust assets are to be distributed.

Types of special needs trusts There are several different types of special needs trusts, each with specific

advantages and disadvantages. For example, a person with a disability may create their own trust, called a first party special needs trust or “selfsettled” trust. First party special needs trusts must include a provision for the reimbursement of Medicaid upon the beneficiary’s death. In contrast, a third party special needs trust does not need to include a Medicaid payback provision. Third party special needs trusts must be funded by someone other than the beneficiary, such as a parent or grandparent.

Why create a special needs trust?

Utilizing a special needs trust can be valuable for many reasons. Perhaps most importantly, a properly drafted special needs trust will allow the beneficiary to maximize available support from all resources, both public and private. In doing so, the beneficiary can continue receiving public assistance, while trust assets are used to supplement public assistance and enhance the individual’s quality of life. For example, funds from a special needs trust could potentially be used for expenses such as travel, hobbies or education.

If you have a family member or friend with a disability, consider establishing a special needs trust. Doing so could help you achieve the best long term care strategy for your loved one, ensuring financial security and providing valuable peace of mind.
