Three Ways To Stay Motivated

In the fast-paced world of business, we're all well-acquainted with the relentless demands on our time. The hustle and bustle can be overwhelming, leaving little room for motivation and maintaining a positive outlook. During a recent Hands-On Laser Retreat, one of my dedicated students posed a question that gave me pause: "How do you manage to stay motivated and exude such positivity?"

This query prompted me to reflect on the strategies I've developed over the years to harness and maintain motivation in my professional life. Often referred to as the "Energizer Bunny," I can assure you that my unwavering drive isn't a product of chance

In this article, I'm excited to divulge my top three methods for staying motivated and achieving lasting clarity in the everchallenging world of business. So, whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, these insights are sure to resonate with you

Establish and adhere to specific working hours

#1

Prioritize Rest

Rest isn't a luxury; it's a necessity for peak performance. When you are tired, everything feels more challenging. Fatigue and lack of rest can significantly impact your cognitive function. Your ability to think clearly, concentrate, make decisions, and solve problems can be compromised This cognitive impairment can make even simple tasks feel more complex. There is a power in a wellrested mind so utilize practical rest strategies such as dedicating at least one day a week to not work and setting realistic work hours. Establish and adhere to specific working hours For example, emails and DMs received after 6 PM can wait until the next day and nonurgent tasks, such as creating new samples, can be a project for tomorrow.

It’s important to understand how your habits affect your rest and productivity The habits you develop and maintain can influence your sleep patterns, energy levels and overall ability to stay productive.

Refrain from selfjudgment and extend grace to yourself

Be mindful of toxic relationships that drain your energy or hinder your growth

Carve out space and seize opportunities to connect with those who uplift and motivate you

For example, an evening work or design session might hinder your ability to relax and sleep, so spend your evenings wisely to unwind and detach from work Share quality time with loved ones, read, or enjoy your favorite show to decompress. Remember, success isn't solely about constant hustle; it's about balancing effort with essential rest.

#2

Stop Comparing

Avoid comparing yourself to others Everyone has their own challenges, struggles, and insecurities Instead, strive to practice self-compassion, set your own goals and measure your progress against your own standards. Refrain from selfjudgment and extend grace to yourself. Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small. Remember your “why”! Reflect on why you picked your career when you could do anything you wanted. Focus on what you do well and do more of it. Start fresh today by shifting focus away from flaws and eliminating thoughts of self-critique so you can affirm your awesomeness!

I’d like to share some practical approaches to recognizing your worth in a professional context. First, engage with the SWOT analysis to evaluate strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Next, amplify existing strengths by doing more of what you are good at. Embrace authenticity; avoid imitating others and just be YOU! And finally, identify personal strengths and joyful pursuits; prioritize them for increased engagement and to avoid burnout.

#3 – Pick Who You Hang With

Strategically choose your personal and professional connections. Associations are like elevators. They are either going to bring you up, or bring you down! In both professional and personal contexts, it’s important to assess whether your interactions are mutually beneficial and aligned with your values and goals.

Consider evaluating the impact of your social interactions. Be mindful of toxic relationships that drain your energy or hinder your growth. Regularly evaluate the people you spend time with and consider whether those relationships contribute positively to your life and make a change if they are not inspiring you. If interactions are draining, consider a change. Explore new avenues that proactively cultivate inspiration such as engaging in networking groups, participating in small church groups and connecting with interesting individuals. Try inviting them out to dinner or to visit over coffee.

Carve out space and seize opportunities to connect with those who uplift and motivate you If you feel inspired, prioritize these connections and dedicate time in your schedule to see more opportunities to engage with them. Cultivating a balance between professional and personal relationships that nurture your well-being and aspirations can lead to a fulfilling and successful life
