Solihull is making history with the launch of our very first Pride event, bringing a vibrant celebration of LGBTQ+ culture and diversity to the town centre.
The event, being organised by Solihull Business Improvement District (BID), promises to be a spectacular weekend of inclusivity, joy, and unity for people of all ages, backgrounds, and identities.
Solihull Pride has been made possible thanks to support from Headline Sponsor npower Business Solutions (nBS) and Associate Sponsors BNP Paribas Personal Finance, Davisons Law, John Lewis & Partners, Muse, Paragon Bank, Solihull BID, Solihull College & University Centre and Touchwood. CGI, David Wilson Homes, Howden and the National Lottery Community Fund are also providing backing as Support Sponsors.
The two-day extravaganza will offer a series of events and activities, including a colourful parade, live music performances and special guests including award-winning cabaret artist Fatt Butcher and celebrity hairdressers Royston Blythe and Nick Malenko. The event will be compered by esteemed local presenter Phil Oldershaw, and feature musical tributes to Madonna, Cher and Elton John.
The event will attract thousands of attendees from the local community and beyond, aiming to celebrate diversity while promoting acceptance and equality for all. The Continental Street Market, organised by RR Events, will also be in town, adding delicious market delights to the offering.
Melanie Palmer, Chief Executive of Solihull BID, said: “We are absolutely delighted to host the first-ever Solihull Pride event right here in
I am honoured to be part of Solihull Pride. The journey to get here over the past 14 months has been emotional and at times exhausting but always driven along by the overwhelming support from everyone involved. Our Steering Group have guided me, our sponsors have made the whole thing possible, and the love and support from the hundreds of community groups and individuals wanting to help means that Pride has become much more than I could have ever imagined.
Thank you to you all. Let’s continue to make Solihull a shining example of an inclusive town that welcomes everyone. We can only shine our brightest when we are confident in our own skin, knowing we are safe being who we want to be, and loving who we want to love.“

the heart of our town centre. This celebration is a vibrant reflection of Solihull’s diversity, inclusivity, and community spirit.
“It will be wonderful to see people from all walks of life coming together to share in the joy, pride, and unity that this event represents.”
Anthony Ainsworth, Chief Operating Officer (COO), nBS, added: “We are delighted to be Headline Sponsor of Solihull’s inaugural Pride event which is taking place right on our doorstep.
“At nBS, we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive working environment, ensuring everyone is comfortable being their authentic selves, so it is very important to us to raise awareness and celebrate Pride within the local community. We are certain the event will be a great success, and one that truly champions equality for all.”
Fatt Butcher is an award-winning cabaret artist, vocalist, and professional hot mess.
Heralded by critics as an ‘incredible vocal powerhouse’ (West End Best Friend) and ‘the accelerating decline of humanity’ by trolls on twitter, their work explores queerness, joy, healing, fatness, spirituality and the body. They describe their work as full-fatt, saturated with music, song, dancefloors, movement, drag, pastiche, bold visuals, parody, and occasional profundity.
Fat icon, fashion influencer, and delusional character actress, Fatt is the illegitimate love child of Elton John and Pam St. Clement, their work has been described as ‘anarchic campery’ (Reviewsgate) and ‘a tender moment of queer celebration’ (lastminutetheatretickets.com).
A rising star of the UK cabaret scene: Fatt is the creator and host of Send In The Clowns (a drag celebration of musical theatre) & Fatt Butcher’s Disco Bingo. They are the 2022 winner of Drag Idol UK and a regular performer on the UK’s cabaret, festival, and pride circuits.
Fatt has featured in a number of television and theatrical productions across the UK, they have also written features for Attitude Magazine and The Metro. Recent credits include The Voice UK (ITV), A Christmas Carole, Southend Palace Theatre (Trafalgar Entertainment/Tuckshop), Ginny Lemon & Friends (Garrick Theatre), Fister Act (The Turbine Theatre), Send In The Clowns (Old Joint Stock Theatre), More More More How You Lycett, How Do You Lycett (National Tour), Joe Lycett’s Big Pride Party (Channel 4), Come Dine With Me: The Professionals (Channel 4), and Britain’s Got Talent for about 2 seconds (ITV/Thames TV).
We welcome Phil Oldershaw, who is a celebrated broadcaster, presenter, entrepreneur, and cofounder of Birmingham Pride.
Phil is definitely no stranger to the LGBTQIA+ community and brings his trademark energy, charm, and deep knowledge of the UK’s Pride events and their audiences, to our first Solihull Pride.
With a career spanning over three decades, Phil has hosted major national events including ‘HRH’ Jubilee’s & King’s Coronation celebrations, and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. He’s also a familiar face from TV appearances like winning Channel 4’s ‘Come Dine With Me’, appearing on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, and is a presenter on Birmingham’s own BRMB Radio.
Known for his professionalism, humour and flair, Phil makes every festival moment feel memorable. His love for Solihull, the town and its people shines through, making him the perfect ambassador for Solihull Pride.
Phil said: “I am really honoured and excited to be working with Solihull BID and the team to help create this colourful event in its first year of infancy. I know we shall have an incredibly expressive time and the people of Solihull, and the businesses, shall prosper under the blanket of this gathering of equality, diversity, inclusion, unity and love. I look forward to hosting the main stage and having a good time with everyone.”
Joining us at Solihull Pride are two of the hairdressing industry’s most colourful and celebrated hairdressers.
The duo worked in hairdressing for 50 years, during which they tended to the tresses of celebrities and royalty alike, their work has graced front covers of Vogue, Hello, OK and countless other magazines
Royston and Nick travelled the world for L’Oréal as Global Ambassadors for the brand, presenting shows and demonstrating to hairdressers from India to Dubai, Paris and throughout the UK, whilst regularly appearing on TV shows including Katie Price & Peter Andre’s Wedding, Tamara Ecclestone’s Tamara’s World, Coleen’s Real Women with Coleen Rooney, Lorraine and Real Housewives of Cheshire.
They were recognised globally for their creativity, receiving awards from all corners of the world along with four British Hairdressing Awards.
With a clientele from billionaires to bingo players, the duo are to this day two of the most grounded, warm, and friendly people you could meet. A huge part of their success is that they treat everyone the same, no matter who you are, what you do or where you live.
Royston and Nick will be on stage in Mell Square and joining in with the Pride Parade on Saturday 6th September!
Royston said: “Thankfully we have evolved from the days when gay people were treated like criminals, but sadly there are still elements of hostility towards the gay community. Pride events are key to helping drive the positive changes still needed.
“We are looking forward to being part of Solihull Pride. We attend many Pride events across the country and it’s so wonderful to see families and everyone together being who they want to be. The first Pride event in Solihull will give everyone the opportunity to celebrate their individuality alongside the love and strength of the gay community and allies.”
Regarded as one of the best Elton John tributes in the UK, Jimmy Love’s tribute to Sir Elton John is a pleasure to behold.
Sir Elton John is a national treasure, and one of the longest running, successful singer songwriters of his generation. Join Jimmy as he uses the music of Sir Elton John to tell the story of this British music icon. Featuring over 40 years of hits and the stories behind them.
Now, with years of experience under his belt, Jimmy Love IS Sir Elton John!
Bringing us all the biggest hits from Madonna’s phenomenal 25 years of world domination, Vogue Madonna leaves no stone unturned in attention to detail in this spectacular stage show. The voice, the moves and the image are all perfectly recreated by uncanny lookalike, Elly Jarmain, who, often backed by her fabulous dancers, reminds us all why Madonna is the biggest selling female artist of all time.
The show is based around the Queen of Pop’s sell out tours and has created such a buzz around the country that audiences frequently turn up in full Madonna costume, not unlike a night out at the Rocky Horror Show!
Vogue Madonna touches the heart of 80s nostalgia with songs such as Like a Virgin and Holiday. She entices us to the dance floor with Vogue, gallops on into the noughties with Music and just when you start to wonder how many more instantly recognizable songs Madonna could possibly have released, launches into her more modern chart successes, such as Hung Up – she even wears the leotard!
Believe In Cher is a high energy tribute show paying a spectacular tribute to one of the world’s great superstars.
Cher’s endless back catalogue of hits and outrageous costumes ensure that this lady’s appeal endures – in fact she’s still performing sell out shows in Las Vegas!
From her duet with Sonny, “I Got You Babe“, through her success in the 80s with songs such as “Turn Back Time” she then returned to mega stardom in the 90s when her Grammy Award winning dance track “Believe” sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. Fast forward to the noughties and Cher’s success is still going strong, recently starring alongside Christina Aguilera in the hit musical “Burlesque”.
El Sam is an award-winning independent artist known for his dark, theatrical blend of electronic pop and soulful storytelling. With a sound that fuses the drama of Lady Gaga Loreen, the vulnerability of Lana Del Rey and Sam Smith, and the edge of modern pop music, El Sam crafts bold anthems for the misunderstood. Celebrated by BBC Introducing and praised for his striking visuals and unapologetic artistry, he brings queerness, power, and emotion to the centre stage.
Ivory Glam the ginger scare with a whole lot more down there… is the live singing cabaret act with a largerthan-life personality and larger than life pads (they’re real I promise!). This queen will sing your pub classic sing alongs while using insult comedy to keep the bar roaring! You don’t want to miss this!
The Princess of the UK... Prossie is here! Her siren singing voice and gorgeous looks will leave you begging to take this feisty pocket rocket home.
She’s never had nits but she has had worms. She is the one and only Big Liz. A voluptuous queen with a hysterical wit, the voice of an angel and very aggressive stretch marks.
If you’re in need of a good laugh, Big Liz is your gal!

There is a lovely, famous quote about diversity being invited to the party, and inclusion being asked to dance. At Howden, we like to take things one step further and give everyone a chance to play their part in organising the party.
We’ve always been committed to the idea that everyone’s voice should be heard. Every employee should feel valued and respected. We want everyone to feel that they belong.
RESPECT is a large group of employee volunteers who are passionate about nurturing and developing Howden’s inclusive culture. It is an employee-led initiative - this is highly unusual in a large company, so we are told - and it goes far beyond box ticking. Inclusion is something Howden people genuinely care about and support.
The LGBTQ+ and Allies Resource Group helps create a safe and inclusive culture within Howden where all employees feel safe and able to bring their full self to work.

For almost two years, our Solihull Pride Steering Group have regularly met to share ideas and help lead us into the first ever Solihull Pride event.
Following an invite for an LGBTQ+ networking event sent out to the town centre business fraternity, it was immediately clear to us, Solihull BID, that there was work to be done to help people from the LGBTQ+ community feel more welcome in Solihull town centre.
This is when the journey to Solihull Pride really began and after reaching out to potential sponsors, the first ever Pride event in Solihull was set in stone.
We’d like to thank all members of our Steering Group – many who were at that first initial networking session at the beginning of last year – for giving up their time. Here are some of the 25+ that have, and will continue to, guide us in making Solihull a welcome and inclusive place for all.
“I’m co-chair of the CGI LGBT+ Allies Network and it is really important for us to reach out to community events that are local to us and help them grow. That is why we are supporting Solihull Pride – it is a locally led grassroots community event.
“I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere, see all of the acts throughout the event and just have a really good weekend. It will be a great weekend for the whole family where everyone is welcome.
“I hope the legacy of Solihull Pride is that it becomes an annual event and keeps getting bigger and bigger. It is all about the Solihull community coming together to celebrate love and diversity and show people that they will be loved and accepted for who they are.”
“I’m supporting Solihull Pride because it is important that we celebrate everybody’s pride. I wanted to be part of this historic moment for Solihull.
“I’m looking forward to seeing all the acts at the event and seeing everyone celebrating themselves. It’s going to be one big party of happiness.
“I’m hoping this will be the first of many Pride events in Solihull and brings all of the community together.”
“I’ve lived or worked in Solihull my whole life and I think it’s really important that Solihull has a Pride event – it’s something that we have been missing. Supporting this event supports the whole community – it’s about inclusivity, diversity and it will bring a sense of belonging and visibility for people from the LGBTQ+ community.
“It will be great to see people from across the Solihull borough enjoying a vibrant and celebratory event in Pride, showing people that they belong and can be their authentic selves.
“We hope this will not just be a one-off event and we won’t just be celebrating Pride Month or LGBT History Month, this will be woven into the fabric of Solihull and demonstrate who we are as a community –that people can feel comfortable and safe across Solihull.”
“It’s nice to see a smaller town get involved and host a Pride event as sometimes the really large events in city centres can be quite overwhelming for people – especially if you’re new to it. This is more community based and about people coming together and enjoying themselves.
“We’ll be making free bath bombs at Lush so we’re really looking forward to that and also the iconic Fatt Butcher – how can you not be excited?!
“Hopefully Solihull Pride will help create a closer community and a better community presence for anyone and everyone.”
