MbahupuHippyTjivikuadidnotsetouttorevolutionize Africanlogistics.Hisstorybeginsinamathematicsand scienceclassroomatElladuPlessisSecondarySchool, wherefrom1998to2002,heshapedyoungminds.Those yearsteachinginstilledinhimsomethinginvaluable-the abilitytosimplifycomplexity,communicateavision clearly,anddevelopothers.

BornonJuly30,1973,Tjivikuapursuededucationwith intensity.Hisacademicjourneytookhimfromthe UniversityofNamibia,whereheearnedhisHigher EducationDiplomain1997,toRhodesUniversityinSouth AfricaforaBachelorofEducationwithHonoursin2002. Buthisintellectualcuriositypushedhimfurtheracrossthe AtlantictoWorcester,Massachusetts,wherehepursueda MasterofScienceinOperationsManagementand LeadershipatWorcesterPolytechnicInstitute,completingit inDecember2006.

Thiswasnotmerelyanacademicexercise.Theprogram immersedhiminthesystematicstudyofhoworganizations functionandhowleadershipshapesoutcomes.Histimein theUnitedStatesalsoprovidedpracticalexposurethrough positionsasaMarketingResearcheratCubellisAssociates Inc.inBostonandBusinessDevelopmentConsultantat GlobalStrategicResourcesinWorcester Theseexperiences revealedhowbusinessesidentifyopportunitiesanddevelop strategies,illuminatingpossibilitiesforAfricaninstitutions.

WhenTjivikuareturnedtoNamibiawithhismaster's degree,hecarriedmorethanacademiccredentials.He broughtavisionofwhatAfricaninstitutionscouldbecome iftheyembracedstrategicthinkingandoperational excellence.Thatprecisepaththatwouldleadhimtothe pinnacleofcorridormanagementachievementinAfrica.

In2008,WBCGofferedTjivikuaapositionasProject ManagerforSafeTradeandTransportCorridors.Therole, fundedbytheSwedishInternationalDevelopment CooperationAgency,focusedonroadsafetyand transportationinfrastructure.Onpaper,itseemedlike anotherdevelopmentproject.Inreality,itbecamethe gatewaytohisdefiningcareer.

InMay2011,TransNamib,Namibia'sstate-ownedrailway company,appointedTjivikuaasSeniorManagerfor Operations.Themovedeepenedhisunderstandingofhow railwaysformthebackboneofefficientbulkcargo transport.Managingrailoperationsmeantgrapplingwith equipmentmaintenance,schedulingcoordination,safety protocols,andworkforcemanagement.

Justmonthsintohistenure,Tjivikuafacedan unprecedentedtest.TheCOVID-19pandemic'simpacton logisticswasimmediateanddevastating.Lockdownsclosed borders.Movementrestrictionshaltedtrucktraffic.For WBCG,whoseentiremandatecenteredonfacilitatingthe movementofgoodsacrossborders,thepandemic representedanexistentialchallenge.
