TIP OF THE MONTH
Check air filters monthly Summer is right around the corner! Have you changed your home’s air filter? Filters get loaded with more and more particles as they do their job. This actually has the effect of making them more efficient, but it also increases resistance and reduces airflow. Remember to check filters once a month. — ENERGYSAVERS.GOV

Attending members will also receive a $10 bill credit on their electric bills. Mark your calendars and plan to be a part of the 2015 Daviess-Martin County REMC annual meeting. If you have any questions about the meeting, please call our office. We will be happy to answer them. A young person’s perspective Alena Rhea, one of Daviess-Martin County REMC’s representatives on the upcoming Indiana Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., penned the following narrative: “Trip to the REMC Meeting.” “Shot gun!” the young girl cried as she raced her younger sibling to the minivan not far away. She was just being playful, but a quick, sharp glance from her mother squelched any hope of the idea. The front seat would no doubt go to Jim Carver, the family’s guest for the evening and the motivator of the little expedition. He was a tall man, with rough white hair and a large nose; a Vietnam veteran and a truck driver. But even through his tough exterior the girl thought of him no more than a nice elderly gentleman with a servant’s heart. As they all piled into the minivan, almost immediately talk arose concerning

the REMC meeting they had just attended. Jim was the first to speak, happily stating that in a raffle he had won a discount on his next electricity bill. The father caught the eye of his little girl in the rearview mirror and questioned, “Did you learn anything from the meeting, sweetheart?” To which she replied, “Oh yes! I never realized how much work goes into giving everyone electricity or how the energy use goes up and down from month to month.” She then added enthusiastically, “Or how many people really cared about it!” At this her little brother chimed in to state, “I learned I like hot dogs!” as he stuffed the remainder of his morsel from the meeting into his tiny mouth. After chuckling at the boy’s innocent gumption, all grew quiet to listen to Jim reminisce about memories of life without electricity as he too scarfed down the rest of his hot dog. Alena also writes: “This short narrative is based off an REMC meeting my family attended a few years ago with our neighbor and friend, Bob Haney. Bob passed away two years ago at the age of 73, and our family rememFind more details bers his legacy vividly. We miss his about this year’s annual invitation to annual meeting the REMC meeting on pages 28-29, and thank God for including an the time we had with agenda and him before his passdirector candidate ing. What this story bios! captures, I believe, is the essence of REMC’s legacy in Martin County. Connecting generations, REMC continues to leave a footprint on all ages through their service to and by the community.” KEN FRYE is general manager of Daviess-Martin County REMC.
