No podríamos describir las últimas décadas de la cultura moderna sin tarde o temprano tener que referirnos ya no a un canal de música si no, a una manera de ser y estar. Como los filósofos de la mercadotecnia dirían un lifestyle brand. Otros la han llamado una marca que vende un equity inagotable. También dicen por ahí que hace mucho vendió su alma a un diablo popero yanqui. Y admitámoslo, es a parte, el instrumento de adoctrinamiento más importante del conocimiento consumista para los jóvenes de hoy en día. Simplemente, quién no lo haya visto no está al tanto de nada de lo que pasa en la mente de la juventud de hoy.

MTV es el medio que le quita el apellido a todo el mundo para hacer íconos de personalidades:

It is difficult to talk about the past decade of modern culture without sooner or later having to refer not only to a music channel, but to a way of being. Marketing philosophers would call it a lifestyle brand. Others have said it´s a brand that sells a never ending equity. Some even say that a long time ago it sold its soul to a pop yankee devil. We have to admit that it is also the main teaching instrument about consumer knowledge for today´s kids. Simply put, those who haven´t seen it have no idea what´s going on inside the heads of the young generation.

MTV is the media that kills everybody´s last names to elevate them to an icon status: from Ozzy to Shakira, from Paulina to Jessica. It is also the channel that

ormalmente los turistas vienen a disfrutar de las maravillas naturales o bien las ruinas precolombinas de la Riviera Maya, pero este mes, nos visita el espectáculo de música más importante de Latinoamérica. Ya lo deben haber oído por ahí, o quizás sientan ya la adrenalina en la cara de los vendedores de la 5ta avenida. No son rumo-res ni coqueteos: por primera vez MTV Latinoamérica lleva sus Video Music Awards a Latinoa-mérica. Para otra ocasión será discutir lo paradójico de tal afirmación, pero ahora lo que nos incumbe es celebrar la única invasión gringa que podemos recibir con brazos abiertos.

You pro-bably hear the buzz around town, or maybe you´ve noticed the adrenalin on the face of vendors on 5th Avenue.

This is not a tease or a rumor: for the first time MTV Latin America brings its Video Music Awards to Latin America. We will discuss the pa-radox of this affirmation at a later time, what concerns us now is celebrating the only US invasion we can receive with open arms.

Es que ya hay una buena parte del mundo que ha crecido de una manera u otra de la mano con MTV, sin percatarse aún de que este existe en una infancia eterna que no le permite crecer. Así es como todos los niños y adolescentes aman la marca por lo que es mientras los más adultos la odian por lo que ya no es. uto y alegría, tragedia y diversión, sentimientos del mexicano que tiene miedo a morir, pero que a diferencia de otros pueblos, los refleja burlándose, jugando y conviviendo con la muerte. El día 2 de noviembre es dedicado a los fieles difuntos por la Iglesia Católica y siendo los mexicanos casi en su totalidad creyentes, empiezan este día rezando por sus difuntos y acaban por brindar a su ¡salud!

A través de la historia, encontramos que se rinde culto a los muertos desde la época prehispánica; así vemos las ofrendas dejadas junto al difunto con todo lo que pudiera serle útil en su viaje para llegar al mundo de los muertos. Este es el principio de las ofrendas actuales, fusión pues pagana-cristiana de nuestras tradiciones. El espíritu de la ofrenda actual es un rito respetuoso que toda la familia prepara para recordar a los que se han ido y que, según la creencia, regresan este día para gozar lo que en vida más disfrutaban.

Sobre una mesa se disponen los platillos tradicionales de nuestra cocina: mole verde y rojo, calabaza de tacha, tamales, aguas frescas, todo esto lo adornan “calaveritas” de azúcar que llevan en su frente los nombres más socorridos de nuestro México.

A dinner table is prepared with traditional Mexican dishes: green and red mole, sweet pumpkin, tamales, juices, and is adorned with sugar calaveritas (skulls) with the names of loved ones written on its forehead.

Another important role in this celebration is that of the pan de muerto (bread of the dead), sweet bread decorated with bone shapes made of dough and sprinkled with red colored sugar.
