Hoy en día podríamos identificar el calendario como uno de los grandes legados de esta cultura que en su etapa más importante influenció desde la península de Yucatán hacia el Valle de México en el norte y hasta Costa Rica en el sur. Muchos discuten la veracidad de esta atribución, de hecho, en estelas Olmecas se han encontrado fechas bajo el mismo sistema. Como tantas otras de las culturas mesoamericanas los mayas eran una cultura de acumulación, por lo cual el conocimiento del extraño o del enemigo era una comodidad que se atesoraba y apropiaba. Muy en contraste a nuestra cultura occidental de reemplazo.

Nowadays we could speak of the Mayan calendar as the most important legacy of a culture that during its most important stage influenced from the Yucatán Peninsula up to the Valley of Mexico in the north, and down to Costa Rica in the south. The truth of this attribution has been long debated and discussed by many, in fact, dates have been found in some Olmec glyphs that coincide with the Mayan calendar system. In contrast to our western culture based on replacement, the ancient Mayan culture was based on an accumulation of knowledge, hence, information about ones neighbor or enemy was a much treasured commodity.

quí, en tierra maya floreció una cosmovisión autóctona que hoy a miles de años de su auge todavía no deja de sorprendernos. Si celebramos el año nuevo maya no debe ser nada más por esa búsqueda personal por significado en el mundo en tiempos de tecnología y globalización, si no también por admiración a una cultura que aún vive de maneras casi imperceptibles pero no por ello menos poderosas. No se esconde nada más en los nombres de las calles o en las pirámides que adornan nuestros paisajes, persiste en los rostros de su gente, en la cocina y en nuestra pasión por cuidar esta belleza natural que nos rodea.

a Diez Cantina Bar, una moderna cantina mexicana, tan moderna que la cerveza no te la traen a tu mesa, está en tu mesa! No hay necesidad de levantar tu brazo, voltear, esperar en la barra, chiflar o gritar: “Mesero! otra chela!” porque tu cerveza fría de barril está al alcance de tu mano. Justyn Jones, dueño de La Diez y el creador de este innovador concepto, ha ingeniado una estación de auto servicio de cerveza de barril instalado directamente en seis mesas, las piezas de cada estación fueron conseguidas en países amantes de la buena cerveza: Alemania, Canadá y Estados Unidos. Este es un concepto único en Quintana Roo y solamente lo encuentras en Playa del Carmen. Las seis estaciones de barril en La Diez, sirven la cerveza mexicana lager y ámbar de alta calidad. Se mantienen hasta 240 litros en barriles a temperaturas casi congeladas para asegurarse una cerveza fría en todo momento. Cuentan con un medidor digital que registra la cantidad de cerveza que se ha tomado. A sólo $1.75 pesos la onza, un tarro de 12 onzas sale a $21 pesos. Además te incluyen las típicas botanas mexicanas, un detalle a la altura de una auténtica cantina. Esta tiene que ser la manera más fácil y casual de gozar de una buena chela bien fría con amigos. Justyn Jones, owner of La Diez and mastermind of this innovative concept, has skillfully put together a self-service draft beer station using components from Germany, Canada and the United States-all beer loving countries we might add. This is a one-of-a-kind concept in the state of Quintana Roo, and available only in Playa del Carmen. All six beer stations in La Diez serve your choice of ice-cold premium Mexican lager or pale ale. Up to 240 liters of brew are kept in almost freezing temperatures to ensure ice cold draft every time. A digital flow meter at each table keeps track of how much beer is poured into frozen mugs. At $1.75 pesos an ounce its a mere $21 pesos for a 12 ounce mug, and that includes typical Mexican botanas, a must for any self-respecting Cantina. This has to be the easiest and most laid back way to enjoy a beer with friends. Just make sure to grab one or more of the six very popular beer stations, take a seat, wait for frozen mugs, choose lager or pale ale, pour and enjoy the coldest beer in Playa del Carmen.
