An ambient air vaporizer is used to vaporize cryogenic liquids at extremely low temperatures. They are heat exchangers which vaporize liquified gas such as Nitrogen, Oxygen, LNG, and other cryogenic liquids by using heat absorbed from the ambient air. Ambient vaporizers are relatively uncomplicated heat exchangers, due to this simple principle, these vaporizers do not require any external power. The frost formation occurs in vaporizer due to the huge difference between cryogenic liquid and ambient air. And as these vaporizers don’t require any external power; they use ambient air as the source of energy. Ambient Vaporizers are vertically oriented heat exchangers and are used in a wide range of applications in different industries. As these vaporizers are vertically orientated, it creates a natural downdraft because warmer air is lighter than the cold dense air. While creating fan-assisted and natural draft vaporizers, basic climate zones are taken into consideration. These vaporizers have different designs depending on climate zones such as – tropical, humid, Mediterranean, or marine. Types of well-known Ambient Vaporizers are: ● Wide-gap natural convection ● Super-wide spaced convection ● Natural draft The wide gap natural convection vaporizer is designed to be operated for several days without defrosting. And the super-wide spaced ambient air vaporizer is designed to be operated continuously. It manually defrosts a few times per year. Natural draft ambient air vaporizers are operated based on the principle of natural convective heat transfer. The vaporizers use gravitational force to pull ambient air past the heat exchanger fins and the density of the air promotes downward motion. Natural draft vaporizers use natural convective heat transfer while the fan-designed to assist vaporizers to utilize forced convective heat transfer. Natural convective vaporizers are designed and manufactured with different fin spacings. These spacings are decided based on how long the vaporizer will be used before the defrost process completes. Natural draft ambient air vaporizers have no movable parts which result in low maintenance costs.
