Dear Doreen, What’s your opinion on using Zillow, Trulia and other such sites to determine the value of a home? I want to list mine, but the Realtors I’ve talked to come up with lower prices than the sites. And, the sites seem to change the price on my house almost weekly. Why is that? And, why do agents come up with different prices? (I’ve only been calling for estimates; I don’t want a parade of agents through my house.) We can get a good idea from tax records and the MLS, but we need to see the condition, location and upgrades— the elements that sell a home. than it seems. And effective, according to the Federal Highway Administration, which found a 69-percent reduction in pedestrian-involved crashes in the three years after a HAWK is installed.

t’s the happiest time of year! The kids are back in school. Football is back. Triple-digit temps are almost behind us. The kids are back in school. Let us rejoice! Let us eat! I celebrate with ribs. There is nothing more primal than a slab of ribs. Pick ’em up with your hands and start gnawing. I’m not a big fan of the phrase “fall-off-thebone” when it comes to ribs. To me, it’s a fancy way of saying overcooked. I feel sad when that happens; like I’ve been cheated out of my primal experience. I’m not saying I don’t want moist and tender. I’m saying I want maximum gnawing time with each and every rib. Think about it. There are not many foods that you can keep 3 inches below your nose at all times while simultaneously eating. Pure perfection! I don’t and won’t barbecue from June to September. I don’t care that my kids relentlessly say “everybody’s doing it.” Nobody, I mean, nobody should be cooking outdoors in the same temperature that I like my steaks cooked. Insanity! These ribs are cooked on the stove while the air conditioner is cranking, Sinatra is crooning in the background, and I’m sipping the remaining wine from the recipe while the ribs are simmering. Primal all the way! Ciao, Bella!

Directions 1 Heat oil on medium high heat and brown ribs on all four sides in small batches. Don’t rush; This is where a lot of the flavor is derived. 2 Drain off all but about one ounce of oil. Add the garlic and sage and stir for a minute or two until garlic is light blond. 3 Add mushrooms and sauté for another minute. Add wine and bring to a boil. 4 Add ribs and juices back to pan. Lower heat to a simmer and place lid on slightly ajar. Cook for 30-40 minutes, turning ribs occasionally. If pan becomes too dry, add a few ounces of water. When ribs are tender, remove to serving platter. 5 Add ½ cup of water to pan and turn heat to high. As water boils, scrape every bit of goodness off the bottom of the pan. Reduce and pour the liquid gold juices over the ribs.

Larry’s Tips Accompanying these ribs with mashed potatoes, polenta or cheese grits might cause a standing ovation. Don’t be nervous; just perform your favorite touch-down dance, take a well-deserved bow, and let your fans do the dishes!
