THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO NOOSA JUNCTION
The urban hub of Noosa
Noosa Junction is in the heart of Noosa with a vibrant mix of entertainment, food, fashion, homewares, wellness and professional services, all in one convenient location.
From humble beginnings as a dirt track connecting the region's best surf spots, Noosa Junction has grown into a cosmopolitan blend of local boutiques, cool cafés, funky bars and some of the best casual dining experiences Noosa has to offer.
With the bus exchange located at one end and the community, arts and entertainment hub of The J Noosa at the other; The Junction invites an eclectic mix of lcoals and visitors to its streets and laneways.
Life's essentials are all covered with two major supermarkets, department store, banking, postage and legal, property and professional services including insurance, accountancy, travel, dental, medical and more!
Vibrant street art and entertainment galore including Event Cinemas, The J entertainment hub, Red Lock Escape Room and the region's only Twilight Market; give the Junction a distinctly urban vibe.
Grab a coffee at one of the cafés before exploring unique stores with wares mostly made by hand; expertly-curated fashion, homewares, art, books, streetwear, surfwear - it's all here! Eateries offer fresh and seasonal menus curated by chefs with a passion for all things grown locally.
Beauty and wellness are catered for with essential services and professional specialists to pamper you from head to toe.
The Junction is a destination and with such a central location, an amazing array of businesses and people here, it's time you made it your local.

When it comes to history, Noosa Junction is a quiet achiever growing from a dirt road to one of the region's most delightful foodie havens and a hub for local labels, fashions and startups.
Only40 years ago, Noosa Junction was little more than a dirt road, a place to go through to the surf at Sunshine Beach or down to Hastings Street. It was nothing like the bustling hub it is today with a vibrant mix of business and people bringing a unique colour to this coastal region.
In many ways, Noosa Junction foreshadowed the development of Noosa as we know it today. The first business was a plumber’s workshop built in the 1950s and The Junction was also home to the first of Noosa’s 110 roundabouts, which would soon become as iconic as the region itself.
The region was developed fast and loose with Noosa Council only stepping in with town planning in the late 70s. As renowned local activist Nancy Cato said in her book the Noosa Story (1982), “(Noosa Junction) has grown in a haphazard fashion”.
The township was home to a 6691sqm caravan and tourist park throughout the late 60s and 80s; Marine Land, a marine park with sea creatures on show; and the Cinema
House. A newspaper competition in the 80s finally delivered the name, The Junction.
In 1982, Coles arrived with the construction of the Noosa Fair Shopping Centre with stories of locals dressing up to do their food shopping in the hope of catching up with friends or maybe spotting a celebrity wandering the aisle.
Today, the caravan park and bowls club are long gone. Marine Land is well and truly closed and the Cinema House is no longer. In their place stands a thriving community of more than 270 business from food and retail to services and everything in between.
The one-time dirt road is now beautifully streetscaped and the precinct is home to an abundance of colourful people, local businesses and picturesque bushlands.
Boutique stores, most locally-owned and stocked with locally-made wares, line the streets and street art brings an urban vibe to the precinct, often referred to as "The Junga".

Turkey Wall was a collaboration between renowned visual artist David Houghton and visual arts students from St Andrew’s Anglican College in 2018

Bornfrom a desire to bring more creativity to The Junction, the Boring Walls project was a community-led initiative to engage local street artists. Led by local entrepreneur Gary Swanepoel, the project was a long-time in the making as he and other traders grew tired of messy graffiti.
“The whole concept was to find a blank wall asset that gets graffitied and instead of getting Council to paint over it, we work with young people to get them to clean up the mess and then work with artists to create something really cool,” Gary said.
“The idea was to stop disengaged youths from destroying public spaces, instead we would give them a space they can work on and look after like their own.”
Organically, the Boring Walls project turned into a joint initiative of Noosa Council, the Noosa Junction Association and building owners who were all tired of the visual pollution of graffiti.
Together they funded the murals to bring fresh life to the walls of Noosa Junction. It’s a project that has helped set The Junction apart

from other precincts as well as create a funky, edgy vibe in this unique locale.
Perhaps one of the most iconic murals is Turkey Wall, a collaboration between renowned visual artist David Houghton and visual arts students from St Andrew’s Anglican College in 2018. The huge bush turkey mural is fast becoming a favourite place for locals and visitors to pose for selfies.
Fellow artist Alison Mooney has also added her vibrant touch to The Junction, creating pieces in the alleyway next to J2 Coworking; above the roofline of the Lanyana Way buildings; and then collaborating with David on the Kingfisher mural.
The Amity Affliction frontman Joel Birch created the Palm Springs-inspired topography piece that proudly adorns the laneway next to CLO Studios; and a host of visiting artists have also undertaken commissioned works throughout the precinct, including the art work behind Village Bicycle.
Why not spend a morning walking The Junction and see if you can spot all the art works on The Junction's not-so-boring walls!

A burgeoning cafè culture in the morning gives way to bustling bars at night with restaurants providing fresh and local fare, freshly-roasted coffee and a wide range of craft and international beers and cocktail creations. Multicultural flavours abound offering an abundance of choice for takeaway, dine in or grab-and-go. From street food to creative cuisine, the service is friendly and the choice is wide; it's all on offer in Noosa Junction.

Almost 15 years ago, a honeymooning Pascal and Kristie Turschwell conceived a plan to open an Italian-style restaurant and bar where the service was as amazing as the food!
Bombetta was born almost two years ago and has been a key player in the evolving Noosa Junction food scene ever since. Their menu has been carefully considered with an elegant combination of fresh ingredients and rustic handmade elements that truly serve up a slice of Italy on every plate.
Their staff, friendly and welcoming, and with Sean the magician on most Friday and Saturday nights, this is a place for families to enjoy too. For owner Pascal, it all

comes down to providing a relaxed dining experience that is all about exceptional service, great-tasting food matched with hand-selected drinks and creating memories.
Don’t miss the $50 dinner special offering two mains and a bottle of wine most nights; Secret Socials with food and drink specials from 3pm; and the option of takeaway.
Sit outside to soak up the street vibe, grab a booth or party table inside – and try to resist ‘the naughty corner’! With super friendly service and fresh, authentic Italian food in a cool environment, Bombetta is a must for afternoon drinks, special occasions, relaxed dining and always good times!
InNoosa, there would be very few carparks you could call 'creative' but hidden in Noosa Junction is a colourful tribute to street art. Known as The Hidden Walls, the street-style art has adorned the walls of the Noosa Community Health Centre carpark for many years.
Obscured from view, these works are rarely seen by anyone other than the staff and visitors of the centre. A tip off from Startup Precinct owner Gary Swanepoel led us to discover this hidden treasure chest of art. It’s been tagged and some works are unfinished, but it’s the rustic feel of these pieces that make The Hidden Walls more appealing.

Ahoy there! Have you spotted visual artist David
When it comes to entrepreneurial ideas and wowing customers with a little magic, Helen Flanagan says Noosa Junction has many secret weapons.
Sean Tretheway knows Noosa restaurants like the back of his hand, well more like sleight of hand. The skilful prestidigitator, better known as The Noosa Magician, is endowed with an arrow's vertiginous speed, has entrancing dark eyes and a magnetism that wows audiences big and small. Not surprising really, when he can turn 10-dollar bills into 100-dollar bills, ‘steal’ watches from wrists, stick cards to ceilings, bend forks and turn one rabbit into an instant family, with gales of laughter being the usual response.
Los Angeles-born Sean has been an unofficial ambassador for Noosa since 1984 when he was a bartender and magician at Annabels in Hastings Street. Later with Magic Menu in hand, he went to acclaimed restaurants such as Barry’s on the Beach, La Plage, Dooleys and Lindonis. His popularity spread like wildfire especially amongst interstate and overseas visitors, including Barry Humphries, Hugh Jackman, Kylie Minogue, Geoffrey Rush and Jamie Oliver. He also received a flurry of invitations to perform on television, and at numerous corporate and high-end private jobs in Australia and overseas.

These days Paz and Kristie Turschwell’s Bombetta Restaurant holds the trump card with Sean ‘in-residence’ most Friday and Saturday nights as well as every night during school holidays. Coincidentally, he first performed his magic for the Turschwell family in the 80s when Paz’s father originally opened Gaston. He is often reminded about those days when the next, or even the next generation comes to town.
The world needs less stress and more magic in our everyday lives according to Sean. "We need to get out of the technological daze and have a fun memorable night out with friends," he says. "Live magic happening right before your eyes, and sometimes in your own hands is something you feel in the deepest part of your psyche. Be amazed and surprised because after-all there is very little grownup in a child, but there is a lot of child in every grownup."
Independently-owned, XO Cellars stocks fine wines, spirits and beers you won’t find in other stores. From hard-to-find collectables to everyday drinks, XO Cellars has you covered. Their friendly staff will help you select the perfect match for any occasion or order in your favorite drop. Café/bar and boutique surf shop by day, stunning event venue by night; Waterpistols Surfboard Studio and Noosa Event Space is the ultimate destination if you are looking for a memorable experience.
Former professional surfer Ryan Campbell was inspired to create a flexible space that was multi-purpose to showcase hand-selected surf accessories and fashion alongside handshaped surfboards by legendary surfshaper and Ryan’s dad, Stuey Campbell.
“The key to making it all work is ensuring that the space is clean, open and flexible,” Ryan said. “I didn’t want to have a typical surf shop, I wanted to create an experience.”
The vibe is part-café; part-bar; part-art gallery and the result is a light, bright space where people of all ages are welcome and made to feel comfortable.
You don’t have to be a surfer to appreciate the craftsmanship of the boards, the lines of the fins, the powerful and inspiring images of surfers mid-wave.

Hung from the ceiling on racks, the form and style of the boards is on display, akin to an art installation while also allowing for easy removal to transform the space into a stunning venue for a stand-up cocktail party or seated fine dining experience. Similarly, the range of surf accessories and fashion labels have all been hand-selected and displayed to showcase the best on offer. Coffee is by All Press and seriously good; tea, cold press and kombucha; milkshakes and frappes; and a range of craft beers, wine, spirits and espresso martinis round out the drinks on offer. The food menu is light and fresh with a range of smoothies, bowls, bagels and assorted pastries and salads freshly made.
For events, Ryan can offer the complete package or work with you and your team on styling, catering and entertainment options. Noosa Event Space is conveniently located in Noosa Junction and is the perfect modern space for your next event. Drop into Waterpistols Surfboard Studio for coffee, lunch or something more fun.

Noosa is known for its sun, sand and awesome surf breaks but local entrepreneur Gary Swanepoel wants it to be just as well-known for its innovative and creative community.
The Startup Precinct is a space where big ideas come to bloom with thanks to a dedicated team who take the idea from start-up to launch.
Former co-founder of Noosa’s largest coworking space, Junction 2, Gary saw a real need to provide dedicated support to start-ups wanting to take the leap.
Gary and his team love engaging with entrepreneurs who bring their big ideas to Noosa with plans to launch national campaigns, innovative products or game-changing technological advances from their Noosa Junction hub.
“We want Noosa to be a hub for creators who want to take their business from an idea to a high-growth, scalable business,” Gary said.
“Noosa is the perfect place to launch a business and with access to a deep pool of local talent we can help entrepreneurs take their idea from ideation to launch.”
Unlike other coworking spaces, The Startup Precinct provides expert advice for entrepreneurs and innovators to create all the necessary components of a successful

launch into the market from PR to web design and surrounding the start-up with likeminded innovators to create robust support.
The Startup Precinct also encourages business owners and self-employed visitors to make the most of their coworking space.
“Small business owners never take holidays. We say we do but the laptop comes with us when we go on holiday,” Gary said.
“We’ve teamed up with local accommodation providers to offer free access to our facilities with their accommodation booking to help business owners get their work done while also enjoying the region. With such a great offer, there is no excuse to not take a holiday and still get your work done.”

Located in the heart of Noosa, The Junction is bursting with professional services from tax agents to insurance brokers and real estate. You can get your life sorted and then immerse yourself in the cafe culture - or a spot of shopping!

The times, they are a changing, as Bob Dylan sang in 1964 and it is certainly true when it comes to selling your property. Sales Agents are now so much more than simply mediators between vendors and sellers, they are multiskilled and innovative when it comes to selling homes.
Estate agents like McGrath Noosa have moved swiftly, adapting and embracing the changing world as estate agencies must now compete with other industries to provide professional services and products to customers.
McGrath Noosa have been busy refining their marketing systems to ensure everyone can access quality service when selling their home. Other industries and businesses offer different options for payment, and now McGrath Noosa does too.
Sellers can now pay off their marketing over three months without the need for credit
checks or a formal application. This means you can market your property and include the best products to achieve top dollar and pay the costs once the property settles.
As they say, first impressions count and it’s important to present your property in the best light possible. A marketing package can include professional photography, quality listings across a range of digital platforms and advertsiing in print media, just to mention a few.
As McGrath Noosa principal and sales agent Matt Powe says, buying and selling a home should be a celebration.
“Things tend to move fast once you’ve made the decision to proceed with your sale. We’ll ensure the process is simple by taking care of everything for you,” he said.
Start the conversation, contact McGrath Noosa on 5473 4700 or your area specialist to get started.

Insurance is one of those things you never know you need until you do and while it’s not the sexiest purchase you will make this year, it is possibly the most important.
The team at iO2 Insurance are breathing new life into insurance, making it an enjoyable experience and affordable for families, singles, couples and businesses.
Owned and operated by Noosa Junction locals Joel and Alisa Laventure, this dynamic insurance brokerage boasts its own licence meaning you get a better deal and better service everytime.
“We wanted to breathe new life into an old industry,” Alisa says. “Our aim is to help businesses and private individuals understand insurance, giving them the best advice, protection and support possible.”
As Alisa explains, having their own licence means iO2 Insurance can fight hard on behalf of their clients.
“We decided that if we were going to start our own insurance brokerage, we wanted to operate under our own licence,” she says.
“We did not want to dilute our brand or our service. We wanted 100 per cent control of our business allowing us to use the best structure and systems with cover at the most competitive price.”
Shortly after establishing iO2 they started to grow quickly and were able to bring John Hollman onboard, adding over 27 years experience to the team. And, they continue to expand with exciting announcements coming in 2020.
Alisa says being part of such a vibrant community like Noosa Junction has helped their business grow.
“I think the growth we have experienced in such a short time is a testament to our clients realising that we are true locals that operate our business with professionalism, integrity and that we do genuinely work on behalf of our clients,” she explains.
“The majority of our business comes directly by word of mouth, which we are incredibly grateful for. A thriving local community ensures we all thrive, and this is a great community to be part of.“
