How To Meditate for Complete Beginners?

Meditation is known as one of the most lucrative exercises. It is regarded as the step towards a good and healthy life. While meditation can help you find your inner compass, can rejuvenate your senses, and make you mindful, there is no iota of doubt that getting into the state of meditation is daunting. Given the fast-paced lives we are leading, distractions are bound to pop up, and focusing on calming your brain comes as a hard pass for a majority of people. So, what should a beginner do in order to meditate effectively? In this blog, Inner Yoga Training, a leading yoga teacher training in Bali, is here with anything and everything a complete beginner has to know about getting into a meditative state. So, hang tight and read till the end.

Just give it a try!

First things first, you cannot simply give up saying that meditation is not for a complete beginner like you. It is imperative that you try meditating and then find the detrimental factors. In order to start your first meditation session, Inner Yoga Training which is known for offering a self healing retreat in Bali advises you to do the following:

 Find a space.

Make sure that the space you create is a "no-distraction" zone. This implies that there ain't any technologies or electrical gadgets such as mobile phones, laptops, washing machines, music speakers, etc. This is because these gadgets may try to divert your attention and you will end up scrolling Instagram than calming your brain. It is better that none of your family members or any other person who might enter this space disturbs you. Such disturbances can break your meditative flow. So, inform them in prior and request them not to disturb yours during that time.

 From the posture.

Most of us have this misconception that one has to sit in a lotus pose in order to enter a meditative state which is untrue. One is required to sit in a posture that one finds comfortable, Until and unless your body is comfortable, you won't be able to achieve mental peace. Place your hands in a place that suits you. It could be your knees or lap. What we recommend is tilting your chin downwards. This posture opens up your chest and with your face tilted down, your eyes are able to keep visual distractions at bay and you are able to focus on your breathing.

 Time yourself.

A complete beginner should start the initial sessions with a timer. This doesn't imply setting a timer for 30 minutes or 1 hour. One should always begin with small sessions spanning from 2 minutes to 5 minutes. Once you settle in, you can increase the time gradually.

 Breathing

This is the trickiest part. Instead of trying to brainstorm about things or overthink, just focus on your breathing, Breathing through your nose, keeping your mouth closed, and avoiding clenching your teeth. Lay immense emphasis on how your lungs and diaphragm contract and expand. A noteworthy point is that one need not analyze the process of breathing happening here but should be present during each breath. Focus on the present moment and not the process. You can try inhaling for 6 seconds, then exhaling for 6 seconds, breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth. Continue breathing in this pattern. Release your thoughts. Don’t dwell on any of them. Appreciate the way your breath fills you with life. Follow its path as it enters and exits your body. Enter the meditative state with this process.

 Take it easy!

Mastering meditation takes time. Don't kickstart your session with the thought that you will instantly become a pro at it. Just practice for a few minutes every day and see the change. Always remember that consistency is the key.
