Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heav’n to earth come down, fix in us Thy humble dwelling; all Thy faithful mercies crown! Jesus, Thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love Thou art; visit us with Thy salvation; enter every trembling heart.
Breathe, O breathe Thy loving Spirit into every troubled breast! Let us all in Thee inherit, let us find the promised rest. Take away our love of sinning; Alpha and Omega be; end of faith, as its beginning, set our hearts at liberty.
Come, Almighty to deliver; let us all Thy life receive; suddenly return and never, nevermore Thy temples leave. Thee we would be always blessing, serve Thee as Thy hosts above; pray, and praise Thee without ceasing, glory in Thy perfect love.
Finish then, Thy new creation; pure and spotless let us be; let us see Thy great salvation perfectly restored in Thee. Changed from glory into glory, till in heav’n we take our place, till we cast our crowns before Thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise.
Hymn 451 CPWI 4
By Patricia Boyce
1st Scripture Reading
1 Often have they attacked me from my youth
— Let Israel now say —
2 Often have they attacked me from my youth, yet they have not prevailed against me.
3 The plowers plowed on my back; they made their furrows long.
4 The Lord is righteous; he has cut the cords of the wicked.
5 May all who hate Zion be put to shame and turned backward.
6 Let them be like the grass on the housetops that withers before it grows up,
7 with which reapers do not fill their hands or binders of sheaves their arms,
8 while those who pass by do not say, “The blessing of the Lord be upon you! We bless you in the name of the Lord!”
A Prayer of the Lowly One (Psalm 4:1)
Psalm 129
5
The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want; He makes me down to lie In pastures green; he leadeth me The quiet waters by.
My soul he doth restore again, And me to walk doth make Within the paths of righteousness, E’en for his own name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through death’s dark vale, Yet will I fear no ill; For thou art with me; and thy rod And staff me comfort still.
My table thou hast furnished In presence of my foes; My head thou dost with oil anoint, And my cup overflows.
Goodness and mercy all my life Shall surely follow me; And in God’s house forever more My dwelling place shall be.

Psalm 23 (Crimond)
By Sanaa Elcock
2nd Scripture Reading
5 So now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had in your presence before the world existed.
6 “I have made your name known to those whom you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
7 Now they know that everything you have given me is from you,
8 for the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me.
9 I am asking on their behalf; I am not asking on behalf of the world but on behalf of those whom you gave me, because they are yours.
10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I have been glorified in them.
11 And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect
them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one.
12 While I was with them, I protected them in your name that[b] you have given me. I guarded them, and not one of them was lost except the one destined to be lost,[c] so that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13 But now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world so that they may have my joy made complete in themselves.[d]
14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.
15 I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I ask you to protect them from the evil one.[e]
16 They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.
17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

Sent Forth by God’s Blessing
Sent forth by God’s blessing, Our true faith confessing, The people of God from His dwelling take leave. The supper is ended. Oh, now be extended The fruits of this service in all who believe.
The seed of His teaching, Receptive souls reaching, Shall blossom in action for God and for all. His grace did invite us, His love shall unite us To work for God’s kingdom and answer His call.
With praise and thanksgiving To God ever living, The tasks of our everyday life we will face. Our faith ever sharing, In love ever caring, Embracing His children of each tribe and race.
With Your feast You feed us, With Your light now lead us; Unite us as one in this life that we share. Then may all the living With praise and thanks giving Give honor to Christ and His name that we bear.
Hymn 618 CPWIHymn 618 CPWI 8
The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.

In Our Day of Thanksgiving
In our day of thanksgiving one psalm let us offer for the saints who before us have found their reward; when the shadow of death fell upon them, we sorrowed, but now we rejoice that they rest in the Lord.
In the morning of life, and at noon, and at evening, he called them away from our worship below, but not till his love, at the font and the altar, had clothed them with grace for the way they should go.
These stones that have echoed their praises are holy, and dear is the ground where their feet have once trod; yet here they confessed they were strangers and pilgrims, and still they were seeking the city of God.
Sing praise, then, for all who here sought and here found him, whose journey is ended, whose perils are past; they believed in the light; and its glory is round them, where the clouds of earth’s sorrows are lifted at last.

Hymn 689 CPWI
And Can It Be
And can it be that I should gain An int’rest in the Savior’s blood? Died He for me, who caused His pain? For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be That Thou, my God, should die for me?
(REFRAIN)
Amazing love! how can it be That Thou, my God, should die for me!
‘Tis mystery all! Th’Immortal dies! Who can explore His strange design? In vain the firstborn seraph tries To sound the depths of love divine! ‘Tis mercy all! let earth adore, Let angel minds inquire no more.
He left His Father’s throne above, So free, so infinite His grace; Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam’s helpless race; ‘Tis mercy all, immense and free; For, O my God, it found out me.
Long my imprisoned spirit lay Fast bound in sin and nature’s night; Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray, I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free; I rose, went forth and followed Thee.
No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in Him is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head, And clothed in righteousness divine, Bold I approach th’eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Amen.
Hymn 496 CPWI 11
Nunc Dimittis
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace according to thy word. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; To be a light to lighten the Gentiles and to be the glory of thy people Israel.

When Peace Like A River
When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, “It is well, it is well with my soul.”
(REFRAIN)
It is well with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul.
Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control: that Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and has shed his own blood for my soul.
My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! my sin, not in part, but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more; praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend; even so, it is well with my soul.

Hymn
Onward, Christian Soldiers
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, With the cross of Jesus going on before! Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe; Forward into battle, see his banner go!
(REFRAIN)
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, With the cross of Jesus going on before!
At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee; On, then, Christian soldiers, on to victory! Hell’s foundations quiver at the shout of praise; Brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise!
Like a mighty army moves the church of God; Brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod; We are not divided; all one body we, One in hope and doctrine, one in charity.
Onward, then, ye people, join our happy throng, Blend with ours your voices in the triumph song; Glory, laud, and honor, unto Christ the King; This thro’ countless ages men and angels sing.

Hymn 436 CPWI
Blessed Assurance
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
(REFRAIN)
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long. This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.
Perfect communion, perfect delight, visions of rapture now burst on my sight. Angels descending bring from above echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Perfect submission, all is at rest. I in my Savior am happy and bless’d, watching and waiting, looking above, filled with his goodness, lost in his love.

Hymn
When The Trumpet of The Lord Shall Sound
When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and time shall be no more, And the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair; When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore, And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
(REFRAIN)
When the roll is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
On that bright and cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise, And the glory of his resurrection share; When his chosen ones shall gather to their home beyond the skies, And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun; Let us talk of all his wondrous love and care. Then when all of life is over and our work on earth is done, And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
Hymn 759 MP

The Day Thou Gavest Lord is Ended
The day you gave us, Lord, is ended, the darkness falls at your request; to you our morning hymns ascended, your praise shall sanctify our rest.
We thank you that your Church, unsleeping while earth rolls onward into light, through all the world her watch is keeping and never rests by day or night.
As over continent and island each dawn leads to another day, the voice of prayer is never silent, nor do the praises die away.
So be it, Lord! Your throne shall never, like earth’s proud empires, pass away; your kingdom stands and grows forever until there dawns your glorious day.

The Elcock Family
Much has and will be said and written about Everson Elcock. I was blessed to serve as his parish priest when I was the Rector of St. Augustine’s Church for 2 short years. This gracious husband of a charming wife and two wonderful sons was a faithful member of our community with a generous heart, so big, that it had room, not only for us, but for the entire nation.
Everson’s and Maureen’s home was always a welcoming space. His conversations inspired and encouraged. My ministry has been enriched by his support and for that I remain eternally grateful.
Lucy and I extend our condolences and assurance of our prayers to Maureen, Antonio, Adrian, and his entire family circle. May he rest in God’s eternal peace.

SENTIMENTS OF APPRECIATION FOR THE LATE EVERSON ELCOCK
While I was growing up in St. George, the name Everson Elcock was very highly respected for being a productive, industrious and Christian gentleman. He was generally admired by all in this society for his vision in establishing one of the successful black family businesses even before our own independence. This was very commendable, since it occurred at a time when few ordinary people owned anything of significance in Barbados.
He was an excellent business executive who learnt the skills of management through hard work, fairness and honesty. Everson never left a task undone and educated himself in the skills of negotiation which were also admired by his strongest adversaries.
Despite his business-like manner, he was a benevolent donor to his community, the Church, the Lion’s Club of Barbados and to the poor. It was his Company that first erected lights in the trees at the Glebe in 1995. In addition, as his Parliamentary Representative for over twenty-five (25) years, he gave generously to the many social programmes we executed annually.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Maureen, his sons Adrian and Tony and the entire Elcock clan, on the passing of this ‘Gentle Giant’, who has left a legacy and template for all those who want to succeed.
May he Rest in Peace and rise in Glory.
