has shrunk from 17% to 4.8%. Like cities throughout the State of California, property values have increased over 150%. When Mayor Butts assumed office, the city had a cash deficit of over $17 million. Under his leadership Inglewood has tripled its cash reserves and the city’s bond rating has been upgraded 4 times in 3 years. Thanks to his negotiations, the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers will play in the new sports entertainment complex that is expected to be completed in 2020. The National Football League has announced that Superbowl 54 will be played in Inglewood in 2022. The City is negotiating to bring the Los Angeles Clippers to their new basketball arena by 2024. Mayor Butts and his city council colleagues have been busy making Inglewood a world-class city. The Girls Scouts are moving their regional headquarters from Marina Del Rey to Inglewood. The NFL Network is leaving Culver City for Ingle-
wood. In 2012 Mayor Butts negotiated the reopening of the Forum. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship game is here in 2023 and the Olympic World games in 2028. Just yesterday, the Los Angeles Philharmonic unveiled the architectural rendering of the permanent home for their Youth Orchestra Los Angeles Facility, adjacent to Inglewood City Hall. The design will transform an existing 18,000 square-foot building into a 25,000 square-foot facility that will serve up to 500 students annually from Inglewood and the surrounding community. Mayor Butts was named one of the 500 most influential leaders in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2016, 2017 & 2018 and he has led, and continues to lead a monumental transformation for the City of Inglewood that is second-to– none in the nation.

YOUTH ORCHESTRA LOS ANGELES By Francis Taylor, Asst. Editor
The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra came to Inglewood yesterday to reveal the architectural rendering of the permanent home of their Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) facility that will be situated adjacent to the Inglewood City Hall in Downtown Inglewood. YOLA is the embodiment of Gustavo Dudamel’s belief that music is a fundamental human right. It democratizes music education by offering free, high quality music training to students six to eighteen in neighborhoods that are often overlooked and underserved. What began as a single orchestra I 2007 has grown into eight ensembles in 10 years. YOLA began with 80 students
at one site and it now serves more than 1,200 across four Los Angeles locations. YOLS is where social programming meets music education to yield vital citizens poised to change the future. YOLA provides intensive afterschool training and ensemble based learning. Its instruction includes life skills development in leadership, mentorship and communication, with attention to academic tutoring, college preparation and parent and family engagement. Through dedication and perseverance, YOLA students have earned unparalleled performance opportunities in world class venues with pop and classi-
