Rams Quarterback JARED GOFF and Lowe’s are teamed up to donate more than 200 Christmas trees to studentfamilies of Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD). During the drive-thru Christmas tree distribution, volunteers will load the pre-lit trees into vehicles in a socially distanced and safe manner. “In a continued effort to uplift Inglewood, I wanted to participate in doing something special for the city’s families during the holiday season,” said Goff. “When Lowe’s told me about its initiative to donate Christmas trees across the country, I was eager to get involved and humbled to be able to give a bit of joy to the families in our Rams community.” “The Rams and Jared Goff continue to give back to our IUSD school community during these challenging times,” shared Dr. Erika Torres, County Administrator of the Inglewood Unified School District. “We are grateful to the Rams organization for recognizing our students and families who have worked so hard during this year of distance learning.” On Giving Tuesday, Lowe’s announced it was donating and delivering $1 million worth of pre-lit Christmas trees in NFL cities nationwide. In Los Angeles, Lowe’s is distributing more than 430 Christmas trees in partnership with the Rams and organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hollywood, Watts-Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club, and Inglewood Unified School District. Goff, who is a Lowe’s Home Team player, identified Inglewood Unified School District families to be Christmas tree recipients.

The iconic Serving Spoon Urban, Dine-In Eatery had continued to serve breakfast patrons, as they have for the last 37 years, despite the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic that has crippled Continued on page 7

As we rapidly approach the availability of three vaccines to deal with the Covid-19 virus, the topic at hand becomes, who will get the vaccine first and whether or not those designated as being of greatest risk will actually take the vaccine when made available? Among the skeptics, African Amereicans are at the top of the list and not without reason. In 1932, Tuskegee Institute partnered with the Public Health Service to conduct what was called, “The Tuskegee Study

of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male”. The study was done in the hopes of justifying a treatment program. This was before the development of penicillin, which became the preferred treatment for syphilis in 1947. There were 600 total participants. 399 men with syphilis, and 201 men in the study without syphilis, who were the placebo group. Both were without the knowledge of what they were being treated for. They were told it was “bad blood”. The study was done without the benefit of “Informed Consent “ on

the part of the participants; they were never offered treatment or penicillin. There was no effort to cure the illness for more than 40 years. Not only were they never given treatment, they were not permitted to quit the study. In July 1972, an Associated Press story about the study caused such a public reaction that a review of the study found it “ethically unjustified” and stopped the study at once. A class action lawsuit on behalf of the men was filed a year later, which led to an out of Continued on page 2
