TRAIN STRIVE FAIL RECOVER CONDITION MOTIVATE CHALLENGE LEAD
TIMOTHY BERRYMAN
Greetings,
Thank you for taking the time to read this short synopsis of my life’s journey. Since entering the workforce in 2001, I’ve had the great fortune of many difficult and rewarding challenges. Some of the best career advice I’ve heard is to conquer the most demanding jobs, and I can attest to the long-term benefits of that kind of mission-driven and entrepreneurial thinking.
I was raised with a hard work ethic, but I also recognize that I would not be where I am today that I would not have benefited from the difficult lessons I’ve had if it were not for leaders that were willing to put those ethics to the test through increasingly demanding assignments, often punishing workloads, layered mission and corporate responsibilities, and nearly non-stop opportunities to serve.
Along this road, I’ve codified four principles that characterize how I approach any role: (1) passion for the mission, (2) student always, (3) teach and foster the right ethics, and (4) always take care of your people. I’ve worked to create the best version of a DEI strategy where Strong Teams can thrive, where inclusion is a given, and even the most unlikely teammates can build lifelong friendships. I’ve wrestled with the hard work of responding to workforce climate, getting in front of tense employee disagreement through direct and empathetic leader communication, and democratizing information and opportunity for the good of every single teammate.
I have been in many circumstances a technical and tactical expert, developed systems and processes, and led coalitions of various experts in entrepreneurial enterprise; however, through these learning pathways I have become a leader. There comes a point where “leader” is not how you self-define, but rather, how others see you and leverage your talents. I have been asked to advise, plan, and lead across an Agency enterprise, at the Joint Chiefs level during major policy transitions, and in matters that impact the operations and safety of special operatives across a contested region. Throughout these difficult assignments, I have been privileged to serve alongside American and foreign patriots of the highest caliber, and I am honored to carry forward the wisdom they have imparted upon me.
I am ambitious, but I care most about building Strong Teams and taking care of people. I am always mission-focused, but I have discovered the integration of people and mission is where good organizations become great. I hope to do my part to make every assignment the very best for my teammates and build amazing places where everyone can thrive.
My
Best, Tim Berryman
