Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Level 1
A Day of Supervised Scanning Practice
Scanning Practice (no lectures) in all L1 (Core) competence areas: AAA, FAST, Vascular Access and ECHO for Life Support organised by Infomed Research & Training on Thursday 26 May 2016, at the Infomed Training Suite, Northside House, 69 Tweedy Road, Bromley BR1 3WA Programme Director Mr John Sloan, Immediate Past Chair, Ultrasound Sub Committee, Royal College of Emergency Medicine, and Consultant in Emergency Medicine, Countess of Chester Hospital
About the L1 Scanning Practice Day No lectures, just practice, practice, practice. Are you a doctor who… is seeking further opportunities for: supervised ultrasound scanning in each of the L1 (Core) competence areas (FAST, AAA, Vascular Access and ECHO in Life Support) on models, patients and phantoms,* or boosting your logged experience by getting a number of signed scans, or polishing up your L1 competencies, or preparing for the CEM Finishing School? …supervised practice, practice and practice!!
If so, then this is the day for you! (*) basic knowledge of Ultrasound and knobology is assumed; preferably, you will have attended a CEM-approved L1 introductory course.
What you get is supervised scanning practice: The opportunity to perform AAA scans, FAST scans, ECHO scans and Vascular Access scans on models, patients and phantoms, which can serve as preparation for assessment or simply form part of you logged experience. Just four trainees per supervisor: continuous personalised feedback in line with CEM competences and assessment criteria, plus opportunities to learn from others’ mistakes! The Practice Day is based on the Practice Sessions of the highly successful CEM Finishing School. Please note: CEM recommends that no more than 3 months should elapse without the trainee using her/his US scanning skills; otherwise the trainee must be re-assessed with a DOPS by a trainer.
Programme The trainees rotate in groups of four through skills stations covering AAA, FAST, Vascular Access and ECHO in Life Support. Each station includes one scanner, one supervisor and a live model, phantom or patient as appropriate Timings (with breaks for tea and coffee and for lunch) 08.30 Registration 09.10 Start 17.00 Close
