Classification Of Dental Implants

INTRODUCTION  Millions of adults and children lose tooth daily.  Dental implants are metal posts or frames that are placed into your jawbone.  Once the dental implant is placed and incorporated well with your jawbone, your dentist will then add a substitute tooth to perform like a normal tooth.  These are preferred by most people compared to dentures due to their low maintenance requirements, stable and durable nature.

Classification of Dental Implants 1. Endosteal dental implant

 There are 3 endosteal dental implant types - Blade implant, ramus frame implant, and root form implant.  These are placed over your jawbone. Typically shaped like screws that are made of titanium, these implants are the most typically used. 2. Subperiosteal implant  This implant type is where the synthetic tooth is fitted underneath the periosteum, which lies on top of the cortex.  The jaw bone is not essentially drilled. More support is offered by your gums and how this implant lounges on the cortex.

Classification of Dental Implants 3. Transosteal implant ďƒ˜ Otherwise called staple bone implant, transmandibular implant, or mandibular staple implant, it is a mix of both the subperiosteal and endosteal implant components. 4. Intramucosal implant ďƒ˜ This implant is directly inserted into your oral mucosa. ďƒ˜ The mucosa is utilized as the place for attachment and inserts of the metal, typically made of titanium.

Classification of Dental Implants 5. Cylindrical implant ďƒ˜ These implants come in various shapes; cylindrical is one among those shapes. ďƒ˜ The surface condition and coating are what determines whether to use this implant or not as they offer microscopic retention and bonding with the bone. ďƒ˜ This implant can be straight, tapered or conical and is pushed or tapped into the site of the bone which has been primed.
