SUSAN HORN

Minnesota artist, Susan Horn received her BFA in Studio Arts from the University of Minnesota, where she studied painting with abstract expressionist Mary Abbott. Horn was also a member of the Northern Warehouse Sculpture Cooperative and the Figure Drawing Cooperative at the University of Minnesota. She has been influenced by those traditions in European and American painting that emphasize color and tonal relationships combined with strong composition. Horn has commissions and paintings in private collections in Minneapolis, Colorado, and London. She maintains a studio at her home near William O'Brien State Park in Afton, Minnesota

ARTIST STATEMENT As I am painting, I am looking for a resonance – a rhythm that physically hits you like a deep chord. This is the sensation I paint towards. My paintings come from landscape, places I’ve been and remembered, places that have saturated my mind with their beauty and power. Color is the vein I follow through a painting. The goal is a composition that is structured but not static, the conclusion flowing naturally from all that has gone before.
