Campamento, Madrid, Spain Professor: Joaquín Mosquera El Bosque Metropolitano, vínculos urbano-rural Urban mobility has fragmented and estranged our cities, drowning them in concrete. The solution lies in a green urban healing strategy. We'll convert abandoned spaces into vegetation-rich “oasis” that refresh polluted city areas, valuing emptiness as an opportunity. We decided to undertake actions that focus on pollinating insects, especially bees. Through careful selection of plant species placed near and away from mobility barriers, based on their reproductive types, we create green oases that encourage the return of these insects to the city. One of these oases will be “Polen” located in Madrid's former military operations area, Campamento, which is currently abandoned. We will revitalize the abandoned and forgotten space, integrating it once again into the city. We will enhance its intrinsic value through a strategy of native and wild vegetation that is attractive to insects, serving bees as shelter and protection for harmonious coexistence with humans. The volume dedicated to apiculture is structured into two realms: the bee realm in the lower stratum, where apicultural products will be produced and research will be conducted to counter threats against bees. The upper volumes, providing access to the building, will be dedicated to human visitors who approach this flower paradise. The volumes, designed to minimize interruption of the landscape view through their materials, will facilitate recreational and commercial activities. The project “Polen” seeks to refresh urban spaces, cohabiting harmoniously with nature. Preserving pollinators, architectural innovation thrives.

Atocha, Madrid, Spain Professors: Elena Farini, Pablo Ramos Collaborators: Blanca Borrell Recreational, Sportscapes The objective of this project was to design a recreational area strategically located at one of the less busy ends of Retiro Park, one of the largest green areas in the city. The main idea was to revitalize an existing but underutilized green area by introducing various sports facilities to attract attention. The goal was to identify the site's needs and propose a comprehensive solution. The result was a project inspired by the situationalist movement led by Guy Debord in the 1960s, known as "La Deriva" (The Drift). This concept aimed to establish a connection between individuals and their immediate environment through psychogeography, exploring how urban elements affect emotions and behavior. By fostering spontaneous and emotionally driven interactions with space, this approach discarded linear concepts in favor of a labyrinthine and natural design, offering a variety of pathways shaped by individual choices. Emotional touchpoints along these pathways would either invite or discourage pedestrians, creating multiple potential routes and narratives tied to users' experiences. Ultimately, this design aimed to counter the fast-paced nature of urban life, fostering emotional engagement and meaningful connections within the tangible environment. Alongside the sports facilities, two pathways were created: a linear one housing the sports facilities and a natural, labyrinthine one that embraced the concept of "La Deriva." This latter pathway encouraged people to explore the environment in a random and emotional manner, aligning with the philosophy behind the movement.

Tetuán, Madrid, Spain Professors: Elena Farini, Pablo Ramos Collaborators: Pablo del Pozo del Olmo Transforming the city Tetuán has transformed into a vibrant neighborhood with high population density and diversity. The "Octopus” project aims to revitalize this area through innovative reconfiguration. By reinterpreting the block design, interconnected public spaces are fostered. This proposal seeks to overcome the predominance of private space in Tetuán, incorporating communal areas that encourage interaction and communal life. The project introduces a variety of vertically arranged residential units, increasing space efficiency and promoting cross-ventilation. Instead of the traditional horizontal layout, the "tetris" design introduces a new dynamic that also contributes to the creation of terraces and interior courtyards, transforming them into semi-public gathering areas. This innovative approach not only enhances residents' quality of life but also fosters interaction and a sense of community. On the ground floor, the project seeks to enrich the urban fabric by creating squares and commercial spaces. These multifunctional areas not only cater to community needs but also strengthen the social fabric of the neighborhood. This blend of public and commercial spaces fosters a connection between residents and their surroundings, encouraging local commerce and economic vitality. Ultimately, the "Octopus” project aims not only to alleviate the building and population density in Tetuán but also to reactivate community life on a broader scale. By offering more programs, green spaces, and meeting areas, this project stands as a testament to how innovative urban and architectural design can transform a neighborhood into a dynamic and welcoming place.

Murcia, Spain, 2021 Collaborators: María Soto, Antonio García Clients: David and Alejandro This is a very special dwelling located on a unique plot in the Montepinar residential area. The project is based on a beautiful constraint, established by both us and the client, which is to preserve the three pine trees currently existing on the plot, and to seamlessly integrate with its sloped topography. As a result, the functional layout of the house adapts to these constraints, creating a home that is fully integrated with the surroundings and environmentally respectful. Part of the house is designed to be embedded in the terrain, with a vegetated roof also planned. All the porches of the house are constructed using elevated wooden decks made of treated pine, acting as walkways over the land. This approach minimizes earth movement and leaves the native vegetation untouched. The main rooms of the house are oriented towards the south-facing pool area, with facade openings that blur the line between the exterior and interior, providing our clients with a constant sensation of being within a pine grove. The master bedroom of the house is designed around one of the pine trees, serving as a backdrop for the bathroom, spa area, and the bedroom itself. We are confident that our clients will experience a significant transformation after enjoying baths and showers immersed in nature. The infinity pool creates a visual horizon that becomes the central focus of outdoor activity, defining the views from the house.
