Fishing Legends Return to Indy, Connecting Past with Present

“There’s no other sport where its top performers are so accessible,” McKinnis adds. “You can have an eye-to-eye conversation with a real expert about a specific technique or a piece of gear and then lay your hands right on it. It’s really unique.”

Forrest Wood, Jerry McKinnis, Billy and Bobby Murray will appear at the Ford 62nd Annual Indianapolis Boat, Sport and Travel Show, February 20, 2016 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Each have played an undeniable role in the fascinating story of modern freshwater angling, which has grown to become the most popular recreational pastime in America.

Well, plenty such stories will be shared in Indianapolis on February 20 – with great enthusiasm, no doubt – when McKinnis, Wood and the Murray brothers convene the Fishing Legends Panel, an interactive discussion to be moderated by well known outdoor writer and youth fishing advocate, Dan Armitage. Of course, in keeping with outdoor sport show tradition, the panel sessions will include plenty of opportunities for audience participation.

February 20th: 2PM & 5PM

“Indianapolis was really the first outdoor show to take an interest in bass fishing and help promote what we and others were doing,” says Ranger boat’s creator, Forrest Wood. And what they were doing was simply meeting face-to-face with fishing enthusiasts and consumers to talk about fishing, an opportunity that only the consumer sport show can provide. “Sport shows will always be popular because anyone can come and lay their hands on the latest products and talk one-on-one with the best anglers in the world,” says Wood. “That’s what people want, and no magazine article or internet chat room can replace that,” he continues.

These legendary anglers and fathers of the modern fishing industry are all greatly looking forward to the opportunity. “We’ll just shoot from the lip and cover the topics the folks want to hear about,” says Wood, who believes fishing popularity is at an all-time high. “I may even squeeze in an embarrassing story or two about Jerry,” Wood continues with a wink. “Lord knows he has more than a few on me.” Don’t miss the opportunity to witness and interact with this historic gathering of fishing greats!

Premier Fly Fishing Show Rising in the Midwest The Great American Fly Fishing Expo debuts in Indianapolis, February 19-21, 2016 with top fly-fishing industry manufacturers, guides, retailers, seminars and attractions. Home to the vast Great Lakes and Mississippi watersheds, the American Midwest has earned a well-deserved reputation as a fly-fishing mecca for those willing to probe its diverse pockets of holding water with the long rod. An undisputed hot spot for world-class trout and salmon fishing in its Great Lakes Basin, the Midwest region has further improved its clout as a truly remarkable fly-fishing destination through the sport’s relatively new and rapidly-expanding enthusiasm for species like bass, pike, muskellunge and carp. The brave, new world of fly fishing is, indeed, a warm water love-fest, and while numerous warm water species thrive in the Midwest, the smallmouth bass exists in great numbers and size, giving the almighty trout a run for its money in the battle for the title of fly fishing’s favorite son. Such an exceptional and diverse fly-fishing region deserves an equally exceptional fly-fishing show – a special and centrallylocated place where fly-fishing enthusiasts, guides and industry representatives can gather to share fly-fishing techniques and information on the latest gear, destinations, fly patterns and more. That show is the all-new Great American Fly Fishing Expo, and that place is Indianapolis, Indiana – The Crossroads of America. The Great American Fly Fishing Expo will premier February 19-21, 2016 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds during opening weekend of the Ford Indianapolis Boat, Sport and Travel Show – the largest sport show in the nation. Conceived and programmed for the serious fly angler, this threeday fly-fishing-only consumer show will attract and reel in fly-

fishing lifestyle enthusiasts with a tempting and artfully tied pattern consisting of quality exhibitors, insightful seminars, and other unique show features. Crossover traffic with the Ford Indianapolis Boat, Sport and Travel Show will provide additional appeal and value, allowing consumers to set the hook on more great fishing deals and information, and exhibitors to reel in more potential new customers. Exhibitors are the metaphorical hooks in any effective outdoor show recipe, and the Great American Fly Fishing Expo will have them in both numbers and diversity. From manufacturers and retailers of the latest fly-fishing rods, reels, boats, clothing, flytying tools and materials, and accessories, to a who’s who of flyfishing guides, resorts, lodges and outfitters offering a full-range of angling adventures on the most productive rivers, lakes and streams here in the Midwest and around the world, exhibitors at the inaugural Great American Fly Fishing Expo will offer up that sweet combination of gear and information that fly anglers crave. Fly-fishing guides are the true ambassadors of the sport. An intimate knowledge of the waters they fish and ongoing firsthand experience with a full gamut of available gear allows them to cut through the sport’s significant learning curve and get their clients catching fish. Even the most experienced and capable fly anglers will rapidly espouse the merits of fishing with a good guide. Their experience and information is worth top dollar. Experienced and respected fly-fishing guides from around the Midwest will be onhand at the Great American Fly Fishing Expo, delivering riveting seminars and speaking one-on-one with attending fly anglers about the whens, wheres, and hows of catching steelhead, trout, smallmouth and largemouth bass, muskie, carp and more in the Midwest’s most prolific fisheries. No guide fee required. Simply come with your ears and your questions.

While anglers, manufacturer s, retailers, and guides are each essential parts of the fly-fishing industry, equally critical are the grassroots conservation organizations that have done so much to protect and expand habitat, educate, and improve our enjoyment of the sport of fly fishing. Along with guides and shops, these organizations are tremendous resources for individuals and families looking to learn more about the sport of fly fishing. Several such clubs and organizations will not only be exhibiting at the Great American Fly Fishing Expo, but will also be involved in offering a variety of special features and attractions such as fly casting lessons and demonstrations at the fly casting pond, fly-tying lessons and demonstrations, and educational workshops on fish, habitat and other critical conservation topics. Have kids? Be sure to bring them along to the Great American Fly Fishing Expo. They’ll be able to tie their own fly with the assistance of expert volunteers, then receive a special “fishing license” they can take to the Trout Pond in Tackle Town and catch a fish on their very own fly. Our own Midwest region is firmly on the map of global fly-fishing hot spots, offering hundreds of well-known and lesser-known world-class fisheries. Now, the Midwest has the premier fly-fishing show to match. Whether you’re a passionate fly fisherman, guide, club member, retailer, manufacturer, or represent any other aspect of the fly-fishing industry, make plans to cast a line into the fray at the inaugural Great American Fly Fishing Expo, February 19-21, 2016 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds

The Gnome’s Traveling Rod Show This is the only traveling museum in the world that covers the history and evolution of the fishing rod in existence at this time. It shows the development of the fishing rod down through time from the wood rods of the late 1700’s to the modern use of synthetic materials in the late 1940’s. This display covers over 50 lineal feet and currently contains rods totaling 92 in number that come from some of the most pivotal makers and manufacturers who influenced the art and craft of rod making.

Pioneers of Hoosier Motorcycling

In a very comfortable and casual setting at the 25th Annual Indiana Motorcycle Expo, the men and women who were “pioneers” in Indiana’s motorcycle world will share their stories and remembrances of the early days of motorcycling. These moderated sessions will be tailored to various topics and themes, but will be free flowing as these amazing people re-tell their stories from “back in the day”. If you are a motorcycle enthusiast, you won’t want to miss your opportunity to connect with the men and women who “pioneered” the sport and industry we currently enjoy.

2016 Biker’s Showcase

ABATE Motorcycle Classes ABATE Motorcycle Rider Courses

Built for Speed – Competition The Bikers Showcase is an exciting and nostalgic motorcycle exhibit and contest all rolled into one! This year’s theme is Competition – “Built for Speed” and will bring out bikes from all aspects of competition from street bikes to dirt bikes, drag bikes to hill climbers. Do you have a bike that qualifies in one of the categories below? Enter it today!

ABATE of Indiana has trained more than 125,000 Hoosier motorcyclists to ride over the past 37 years. Beginning in 1979, before there was a state-legislated program in Indiana, ABATE saw the benefits of riders having the skills and strategies to make their travels safer and more enjoyable. If you know someone that rides a motorcycle, it is likely that they have taken a course with ABATE, and now it’s your turn. Registration for ABATE classes for beginning or experienced riders opens at the Indiana Motorcycle Exposition at the Indiana State Fairgrounds February 19th through the 21st.

Tiny Tots Riding Experience

Let the little ones ride at the Tiny Tots Riding Experience. Great for first timers and amateurs, the Tiny Tot Riding Experience is safe and fun for your future biker. Provided are the riding area, motorcycle and apparel. The only problem will be pulling your child away! Plus, in conjunction with the Tiny Tots Riding Experience, ABATE of Indiana will have the “ABATE Children’s Motorcycle Adventure” with several hands on activities geared toward kids.
