A hysterectomy may be recommended for conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic support problems, gynecological cancer, abnormal uterine bleeding, and chronic pelvic pain. Hysterectomy may be of different types Total hysterectomy (removal of uterus and cervix)  Partial hysterectomy (removal of the uterus only)  Unilateral or bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of one side or both tubes and/or ovaries). Laparoscopy hysterectomy can also be performed as laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy (performed partly via laparoscopy and partly through the vagina).

How uterus can be removed laparoscopically? The image of the uterus is then projected into a screen. The projection of the pelvic organs is much clearer and larger than what they see with their eyes. This process of making 2-3 cuts (approximately 5 mm) is required to introduce of surgical instruments. After surgery, the severed uterus is removed through the vagina as the vaginal cavity is made up of small incisions on the abdomen. Laparoscopic hysterectomy is usually performed under general anaesthetic.
