Integration between manufacturing and business computing systems has become essential to competing in global markets. Factory information visibility improves the effectiveness of business applications and management decision making. Conversely, manufacturing derives benefit when specific support applications, such as MES or Regulatory, operate in the reliable and secure business computing domain. Challenges that drive up costs and hinder effective integration project results include the long completion time, the system complexity, maintenance requirements, and the ability to meet future needs. Mitsubishi’s e-f@ctory Solution and the MX MES Interface IT (eMES) address each of these challenges to mitigate risk and achieve optimal outcomes, including improved Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

Fast, Low Cost Integration Connecting disparate systems that exist on the shop floor and in the computing platform can represent the larger part of an integration project. The eMES installs to Mitsubishi’s Q and iQ Control Systems and delivers a rapid and cost advantaged solution to achieve this connectivity. By enabling control systems to autonomously and directly interact with business systems, eMES eliminates several layers of traditional solution architecture and improves system performance, security, reliability, agility and maintainability. Connectivity to other equipment brands provides a consistent, standardized method for integrating all factory elements. Connectivity is established quickly, eliminating weeks or months of development.

Easy to Use The eMES integration tool set greatly decreases development effort and results in standards-based solutions Data Host information system with high degrees of supportability and communication processing transports Data processing (operation processing, logging, etc.) flexibility. No programming is required, just drag-and-drop and fill in the blanks. Whether using in-house resources or outside service providers, development and implementation costs diminish. Features The eMES supports a wide variety of integration projects, with a wide range of transports that enable direct 2-way interaction with nearly all business systems. Database connectivity includes IBM® DB2, Microsoft® SQL, and Oracle®. Messaging connectivity includes OPC XML/DA, OPC UA, IBM® WebSphere MQ, JMS, FTP, TCP, email and deviceWise Peer Link. The comprehensive, policy-base security infrastructure enables exacting control over data access and module configuration.

The Workbench One key to saving integration time is the eMES Workbench. It automatically performs tedious tasks, such as enumerating control system tags and database elements. Configuring a basic transaction involves identifying the data element source and destination, setting actions for the data and associating triggers or events that will drive execution. Then save your work and start using your transaction. It’s that simple. The workbench also provides administrative and operational features to enable enhanced functions, monitor transactions and protect data from network or system problems.

Operation The eMES provides advanced operational features which are configured through the Workbench. An embedded database and macro logic module support advanced pre and post processing of data and massive local data storage. Store and Forward and Forward and Feed support continuous machinery operation and prevent outbound and inbound data loss when the network or business systems become available. The eMES will store the transactions and continue trying to reconnect to the enterprise system. Once the connection is established, the transactions will be processed without data loss. Another key feature is logging for critical transactions, which creates an audit trail for every transaction that is processed by the eMES. The workbench also provides monitoring capabilities for each eMES module configured in your network, so you can quickly check the status of your transactions. The eMES is all you need to make integration simple.

Conclusion The MX MES Interface IT, combined with Mitsubishi Factory Automation Solutions, provides differentiating competitive advantage to manufacturing companies. Integration projects can now be implemented and supported more easily, more quickly and with greater flexibility to adapt over time. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is greatly reduced. Time to Market is improved and the opportunity to evolve more quickly is enhanced.
