Indians Air their Views on Steve Jobs’ Resignation from Apple

computer engineer he ran into at Hewlett Packard, their destiny was tied together from day one. Attributed as a global visionary, Steve Jobs has pioneered and made Macintosh products - the ipod, ipad, itunes, iphone - a counter culture lifestyle, something that has bordered on becoming a technology cult following of sorts - associated with romance, youth and creative inspiration. Apple has changed the world culture by its innovative and stylish devices. Apple shares today are at $383.58 with over 11 million shares being traded daily. The company has an annual $1.58 billion profit, and sits on about $18 billion surplus with zero debt. Indo American News has been using Macintosh computers and devices as technology to aid in its weekly publication since 1982. Born on February 24, 1955, Steve Jobs was born to Joanne Simpson, a speech therapist and Abdulfattah “John” Jandali, a Syrian Political Science Professor. Given up for adoption by his parents, he was adopted by a lowermiddle class couple, Paul a machinist from the Midwest and Clara Jobs, under the guarantee they send him to college. Steve Jobs credits Imogene Hill his 4th grade Cooks now CEO teacher who engaged and inspired him in real learning experiences. Steve Jobs Joined Atari the first videogame company in 1974, created by Nolan Bushnell in 1972. He got his boss to fund his trip to India to gain spiritual enlightenment. To his dismay, he found the guru to be a conman. Two years later, just 21, Steve Jobs along with Wozniak started Apple. This was mainly inspired by his cultivating apples at the All-One farm having joined a hippie community. Steve Jobs released the first computer the Apple I and marketed it at $666.66 each that earned them $774,000. Three years later, Apple II, increased sales to 700 percent making him $139 million, making Steve Jobs a millionaire by the age of 25. By 1980 Apple publicly traded and was valued at $1.2 billion on the first day of trading. Apple has had its share of ups and downs, failures, and faced stiff competition from IBM. Samsung, Google and Microsoft have

taken turns eclipsing Apple from time to time. Somehow, Apple has kept bobbing back up vowing its fans with better and fascinating devices. Steve Jobs’ genius was to diversify revenue streams right from the start. Purchasing an Animation studio from George Lucas and renaming it Pixar Studios, he poured in $50 million of his own money to get it going. It started making realistic animation forays accomplishing Toystory, Cars, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles. Pixar movies helped Jobs net $4.1 billion. Disney which paired with Pixar Studios and had major successes in revenue wanted to acquire Pixar, making Steve Jobs the single largest shareholder in Disney. Steve Jobs has resigned before in the 90s leaving his CEO position to start a Hardware and Software company, NeXT Inc. Apple soon bought NeXT for $429 million in 1997 to help with research and development into new, out of this world products. 2009, Jobs has been very guarded about his health condition. Neehar, a previous employee of Apple for eight years, says “I am saddened to see Steve Jobs leave. I know he will guide the company as far as his health permits. Steve Jobs is a visionary and the products he has created are phenomenal. The culture he has created will survive for ages. Indians have been a vital part of Apple’s fabric and not only to Apple but in contributing skills to many of the world corporates in design, technology, and management. Neehar is now with AppExchange, an online marketplace for cloud computing applications, an original partner to Salesforce.com Many Indians have spoken on facebook, twitter and social media about Steve Jobs’ resignation: Blogger “Ankur” noted on “iphonehelp” that Apple’s image is closely associated with Jobs, the company might find it hard to cope without him. “Jobs is iconic, has numerous fans and is considered a wizard. Apple products sell because he holds them high.” On Rediff.com “Rohit Bajaj” says Jobs is his “hero” “always ahead of his time… his extraordinary intuition has defined the computer industry for years.” Neeraj, another reader says, “Steven Paul Jobs is a great inspiration for me and of course for all youngsters … A true worker and an innovative man, wishing him a quick recovery.” Surbhi Jain a reader of Hindustan Times, lamented Mr. Jobs’ decision to stand down: “I’m sad… and will miss the novelties in apple devices.”

“Mulkeet Shah” draws a parallel between Sachin Tendulkar, the Indian cricketer and Steve Jobs saying, “iextremely sad will miss an iconic figure a lot! SteveJobs! The SachinTendulkar of the gadget industry!” Arvind Malhotra, an associ-

ate professor at the University of North Carolina, and an expert on Apple’s strategy says, “They’re sitting on a cash pile,” Jobs always grew from within. If [the] lack of his vision and availability causes the future pipeline not to be there, that’s when the acquisition model comes into play.” In an email to all employees, Cook said: “I want you to be confident that Apple is not going to change. I cherish and celebrate Apple’s unique principles and values. Steve built a company and culture that is unlike any other in the world and we are going to stay true to that—it is in our DNA. We(will) continue to make the best products in the world that delight our customers and make our employees incredibly proud of what they do.” He also paid tribute to Jobs: “Steve has been an incredible leader and mentor to me, as well as to the entire executive team and our amazing employees. We are really looking forward to Steve’s ongoing guidance and inspiration as our Chairman.”
