PRONUNCIATION GUIDE VOWELS a = as in the word up

aa = as in the word car

o = as in the word on

oo = as in the word book

CONSONANTS b = between English b and p, like p in spin

ny = as in the words onion and nuisance

bw = similar to bwana (Swahili word for boss)

-p = between English b and p, like the p in spin

-r = as in the words ran or carol

dj = as in judge

-rd = as in the word card
