The real cause for concern in America today isn? t just one thing? it?s a combination of accelerating crises that feed into each other If you step back, the big picture looks like a system that's losing control of itself in multiple ways Here?s what?s truly alarming:
The Breakdown of Trust (In Everything)
People don? t trust the government (too corrupt, too dysfunctional). They don? t trust the media (too biased, too corporate) They don? t trust elections (too influenced, too rigged) They don? t trust AI and tech (too unregulated, too powerful) Without trust, democracy collapses into tribalism, conspiracy, and chaos
Economic Stratification (A New Feudalism) The wealth gap is at absurd levels? billionaires and corporations are hoarding power, while most people are drowning in debt Housing, healthcare, and education are becoming luxuries instead of rights The American Dream is increasingly a myth unless you?re born into the right circumstances
These are a few things to think about. We all know there is so much more Things we are concerned about on a daily basis
Yet, we are a strong people We will survive We will still thrive

Women?s History Month is a celebration of women?s contributions to history, culture and society and has been observed annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987. Women?s History Month 2025 will take place from Saturday, March 1-Monday, March 31, 2025.
Women?s History Month is a time to recognize, honor, and celebrate the contributions of women throughout history It highlights the achievements of women in various fields? science, politics, arts, activism, and more? while also acknowledging the struggles they have faced in the fight for equality.
The essence of the month lies in education and empowerment It?s about telling the stories of trailblazers who have paved the way for progress, amplifying the voices of women who are making history today, and inspiring future generations to continue the journey toward justice and equality
At its core, Women?s History Month is a reminder that women?s contributions have always been vital to society, even when they weren? t always recognized It?s a celebration of resilience, innovation, and the ongoing pursuit of a more inclusive world
Women?s History Month is a dedicated month to reflect on the often-overlooked contributions of women to U S history

In 1980, former U S President Jimmy Carter declared that the week of March 8thwould be National Women?s History Week This week-long event turned into a month-long celebration of women who built America.
Women?s History Month is a celebration of the contributions and achievements of women throughout history In the United States, it?s celebrated every March, but many countries around the world honor women?s history at different times of the year
Som e hist orical figures w e celebrat e are w om en w ho built Am erica, w ho fought for civil right s, and w ho w ere pioneers in t heir field:
Sacagawea, who guided Lewis and Clark across the Louisiana Territory, all while carrying a baby on her back.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who was one of the leading figures in the early Women?s Rights Movement
Madam CJ Walker was the first self-made woman millionaire She did this by launching her own hair product business.
Marie Curie was a scientist who discovered Polonium and Radium She also proved that atoms are not indivisible Her work earned her TWO Nobel Prizes. Marie Curie is the first and only
person in history to win two separate Nobel Prizes for two separate fields
Frances Perkins became the first woman Secretary of Labor in 1933. Frances pushed for laws that would protect workers like requiring a minimum wage, work-hour limits, and the legal age to work
Shirley Chisholm was the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress and she was the first Black woman to run for U S President

Q &A
"The
following is my Q & Awith Nikki Crawford It gives just a little insight into her world and how she became who she is today ARising Star!"
by Tony Smith, Indie Incognito
Q Can you describe your childhood for our readers?
A Tumultuous and chaotic, which taught me discipline I yearned for stability, so I threw myself into my art, which at that time was ballet.
Q Who was the first and or most profound influence in your early years?
A Bette Davis I studied all her movies; her mannerisms; the way she listened and responded to other actors To me, she was acting at its best!
Q What teacher saw your potential, even before you did?
A Ms. Viccellio at Springbrook High School in Silver Spring MD She taught me the love of theatre and encouraged me to pursue it professionally
Q What was your first performance and how nervous were you?
A It was a production of the Hot l Baltimore by Lanford Wilson at Chautauqua Theatre I played the ?girl?and had a million lines. Back then memorizing scared me and during rehearsals I would have a recurring dream that I would go up on my lines
I think I dropped a few in a couple of performances but eventually did a decent job lol
Q When did you realize you were good enough and ready for acting-performance as a career path?
A After I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University school of drama. In the 90?s it was probably one of the hardest programs to get accepted to and even harder to stay in I left knowing I was ready for the real world of entertainment.
Q Describe your first professional experience?
A I worked while I was at Carnegie Mellon I did a couple of tv shows and one actors equity show, but to me those don? t count, even though I earned all my union cards before graduating. My first starring role was at the age of 27 playing Lady Liv in a musical called, Play On! I replaced the fabulous Tonya Pinkins and KNEW I had some big shoes to fill On top of which, it was my first musical, so I was scared shitless I don? t believe I was very good at first, but I worked my ass off and eventually became quite good PBSGreat Performances picked it up, so it?s out there for the entire world to see. Like forever lol.

Q What was your favorite performance on stage and on film?
A I have 2 shows First, when I played a young Lena Horne opposite Leslie Uggams I played her from 16 - 46 with 25 costume changes. It was a triple threat role for real for real I was honored when the late great Nancy Wilson told me I had truly captured Lena?s Horne The 2nd is the role I received a Tony nomination for: Tedra in Fat Ham This was my first time having the opportunity to create a role from the ground up. I did it off Broadway at the Public Theatre and then when it transferred to Broadway 6 months later. That role will always be near and dear to my heart.
Q What did your Tony nominations mean to you?
A Validation for all my years of hard work. It was a dream come true. God willing, I will win one in the next couple of years That?s my intention at least
Q What is next for Nikki Crawford?
A I recently guest starred on Elsbeth on CBSand have a recurring role (playing 2nd Lady Ellen Grover) on Amazon Prime?s Cruel Intentions In January I will be workshopping a new play in New York then will head to Vancouver to shoot Tracker on CBS. I?m I?m especially excited about the guest role on Tracker because I?m playing a part that?s so opposite of who I am or how I?m normally cast. I won't say much more other than you?ll have to tune in to see it! :)
Q What would be your words of encouragement for those wanting into your industry?
A Never give up! If you have a dream, give it everything you have until the wheels fall off! Work hard, stay humble, and learn from those who?ve come before you.
Among her many highlights, Nikki also starred with Leslie Uggams in Stormy Weather, playing Young Lena, winning the NAACPTheatre Award

Etta James was a Grammy-winning American singer and songwriter who blurred the lines between genres like blues, jazz, R&B, and rock 'n' roll Born Jamesetta Hawkins in Los Angeles, she had a difficult childhood and was raised by various people, including boardinghouse owners.James' powerful voice was recognized early on, and she became a church choir soloist and local radio personality as a child
In a career that spanned six decades, Etta James sang in a variety of genres, notching over 30 R&B hits, thrilling audiences with her energetic live shows and earning a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. However, despite possessing one of the most powerful voices in music, she only belatedly gained the attention of mainstream audiences and appeared rarely on the pop charts
Born Jamesetta Hawkins to a mother who was just 14 years old, James never knew her father and was raised by foster parents. She began singing with St Paul Baptist Church?s gospel choir at age five, becoming a soloist and frequently appearing with them on local radio broadcasts.
At age 12, she moved to live with her mother in San Francisco, where she formed a singing group with two friends The girls attracted the attention of bandleader and talent scout Johnny Otis, and when he heard their song ?Roll with Me Henry,?he got them signed to a record contract and suggested Jamesetta change her name to Etta James
Story by California Museum

James?solo career took off in 1960 when she signed with Chess Records. Singing in a style that fused the passion of R&B with the polish of jazz, she became the label?s first major female star, scoring a string of hits including ?All I Could Do Was Cry,??Trust in Me?and ?At Last ?Her career faltered in the mid-1960s due to struggles with drug addiction, but she bounced back onto the R&B charts in 1967 with ?Tell Mama?and ?I?d Rather Go Blind ?She continued to record with Chess into the 1970s.
In the late 1970s, she opened for the Rolling Stones on tour and signed with Warner Bros., cutting the album ?Deep in the Night ?While the album didn? t sell well, it received enthusiastic reviews and reminded serious blues and R&B fans that James was still a force to be reckoned with.
James was recognized with four Grammy Awards, including one in 2003 for lifetime achievement, as well as induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Blues Hall of Fame and the Grammy Hall of Fame Her iconic 1961 recording ?At Last?was included in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 added to the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress in 2008 Her autobiography, ?Rage to Survive: The Etta James Story,?was published in 1995

Q At what age did opera become an interest for you?
A. I became interested in opera at a early age via playing piano as a child my mother says I sang before I spoke but when I discovered while sitting in the audience of a production of Mozart?s, Don Giovanni I knew I had to sing this incredible, awe inspiring music
Q Was that the time you realized your voice was a gift?
A I thought everyone could sing, especially since I started singing in the womb, according to my mom My friends at my all girls catholic school could sing so I thought everyone could sing until I found that to not be true. So many people over the years have told me that my singing has touched them, changed them and moved. However, nothing compares to the absolute joy I get when I sing.
microphone my whole world changed I truly hope everyone on this planet can experience what I experience every time I sing That night in that little obscure jazz club the audience disappeared, everything went quiet and God spoke to me and said, "This is it kid, you have found it". I have never looked backed. Always moving forward.
Q Can you tell us about your first theatrical performance?
A. It was a musical, Rio Uphill, and it was fantastic I love more than just the performance I loved the work, the rehearsals and everything leading up to the performance on stage I even got thrown a new song a couple of days before opening night I nailed it

Q &
Q. Who was the first real mentor that pushed you to pursue your dream of being a virtuoso singer?
A My cousin Ian Pringle is the first person to believe in me and financially invested in my career when no one else would or did. He wasn't into nor did he know anything about the arts, but he believed in me and my passion to sing
Q What was your gotcha moment, when you knew what you were destined for?
A. OMG, I attended this little open mic night I was totally green The minute I stepped onto that stage and took the

A Patti Smith I was sing at Dantes on McDougal street and the iconic Patti Smith stooped in to listen to me. She cats with me. Asks for a photo with and could she share it. I was like, OMG Pattie Smith, of course you can share it lol She proceeds to tell me I have a beautiful voice She then shares it on Instagram and that was a wonderful gesture I love this amazing woman She is very motivating for me
Q. What were the most endearing aspects of making your first, then subsequent recordings?
A. I recently finished recording my jazz EP CARAVAN, with Plaid Dog Recording, working with Mike Davidson. The experience was gorgeous. As the creator of my own version,
I was listened to, seen and respected The only time other voices were offered was when it enhanced my project
A &
Q. How excited were you for you recent theatrical performance and your upcoming debut at 54 Below in NYC?
A. Playing Ms. Barnes was joy ride and I hope to play her again. When I submitted my self tape to the writer Frank Dunham Jr, he said I was obviously talented but too pretty to play Ms. Barnes. I wrote back and told him I deserved to read the script with the director I am so glad I fought for Ms Barnes After four call backs, I got the part
My debut at 54 Below on April 6 at 7pm is entitled From Harlem To Hollywood, the songs of Duke Ellington and Irving Berlin The set opens with Duke Ellington's Creole Love Call, setting the stage for an evening of timeless elegance, glamour and song I am Beyond thrilled

LEADERSHIP THOUGHTS
Ret hinking silos: A vision of t ransparency and collaborat ion
By Ashley Kellish, DNP, RN, CCNS, NEA-BC
IN TODAY?S INCREASINGLY
COMPLEX and interconnected world, I often hear the call to stop working in silos throughout organizations as we discuss how to improve collaboration and innovation, and I always pause to think about what these words mean. The concept of eliminating silos became popular in management literature in the 1990's and 2000's At the same time, the rise of team-based work cultures and interdisciplinary collaboration was gaining traction. This phrase visually represents the importance of breaking down barriers between different areas within organizations to improve communication, innovation, and overall effectiveness
I Although it?s essential to break down the walls that isolate us, I believe there?s value in recognizing and calling out the expertise within each of these so-called silos Rather than dismantling silos entirely, what if we rethink their structure? envisioning them not as rigid, metal barriers but as clear test tubes that allow us to see into one another?s worlds?
AUTONOMY AND COLLABORATION
Imagine a system in which inter professional experts continue to work within their own domains, contributing their specialized knowledge? whether in nursing, medicine, finance, information technology, or another field? within a transparent framework

Like a scientist working with test tubes in a lab, we could see what others are doing, the reactions they?re testing, and the discoveries they?re making. Their perspectives would be accessible when developing new processes or ensuring best practices If our silos were transparent, we could easily share insights, resources, and collaborative opportunities without losing the focus and integrity of our own expertise that we bring to the healthcare environment
When collaboration is needed, we could look at the work of groups, teams, and experts around us and pass knowledge and tools through these clear boundaries, testing how our expertise combines with that of others. Just as chemists create reactions to yield new solutions, professionals across different sectors could work together to create innovative outcomes that go beyond what any one field could achieve alone The key is to keep these boundaries open, so we know who?s working on what and recognize when it?s time to join forces and think collaboratively This approach would foster both autonomy and collaboration, respecting the integrity of specialized work while ensuring that we remain connected to one another?s efforts Transparent test tubes enable a dynamic balance, honoring expertise, keeping the doors to collaboration open, and building trust among teams that will strengthen over time
WORKING TOGETHER TOWARD CHANGE.
By re imagining silos, we can strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation, spark creativity, and solve complex problems in ways that no single team or department could do on its own Where are your silos? How can you open them up for visibility? What would it take? One team I was supporting created transparency between the hospital quality team and the nursing quality team. In one meeting,
they started to ask about the responsibilities of each team and how they could work together What had been a closed and inaccessible relationship that sparked distrust easily became a collaborative engine driving quality together It sounds simple because it is!
Now is the time for healthcare leaders, educators, and inter professionals to re imagine how we work together Let?s commit to fostering transparency in our organizations, encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue, and ensuring that our silos remain visible and accessible By doing so, we can unlock the potential for groundbreaking innovation and better patient outcomes I?ve seen tremendous shifts toward collaboration when we stop resisting our own expertise and working off false assumptions Instead, we should invite our teams to gain insight into our work and collaborate with openness and transparency

WEARESITTINGTHISONEOUT: BLACKWOMENARETIRED
Keyanna Har per ObsidianPeopl e Mar 3,2025

Let me be clear: Black women have done our part. And for 2025?We sitting this one out. Not because we don? t care, but because we refuse to keep running into a burning building when the folks inside set it on fire themselves
The Exhaust ion Is Real.
Growing up in the ?80s and ?90s, I had all kinds of friends? Black, white, Latinx, Asian? and we all believed in a future where things would keep moving forward Now?We?re in a full-blown rewind It?s giving Jim Crow 2 0 And honestly, I?m exhausted The amount of racist, wild, disrespectful energy thrown at Black women over the past decade has reached a level that I simply refuse to entertain anymore
We saw Trump slide into office on some shady shit, and from that moment, we watched every other group come at Black women crazy
We watched people laugh at our warnings, dismiss us, disrespect us, and then turn around crying when the consequences hit And now?People are getting deported, attacked, rights stripped, and even war plans are on the table.
And you know what?We told y?all Kamala told y?all. Hell, Hillary Clinton told y?all. But did anybody listen?Nope so we are sitting this one out, y'all did it now ya'll fix it
Kam ala Pulled Up, But Y?all Played In Her Face
Let?s talk about Kamala Harris for a second. Sis came in ready to work, and what did folks do?Nitpicked her to death She wasn? t Black enough She wasn? t this enough She wasn? t that enough. Meanwhile, they didn? t even bother to Google her track record. People acted like she had superpowers and was supposed to fix 400 years of oppression in four years
She showed up and did her job despite the mess, but it didn? t matter? because y?all were never going to let a Black woman win
Black women get judged by impossible standards If we are too assertive, we?re ?aggressive ?If we?re composed, we ?lack passion.?If we call out racism, we?re ?playing the victim ?Kamala walked into one of the most dysfunctional administrations in history and Biden and Harris still managed to push through meaningful policies, but she wasn? t given one ounce of grace.
Meanwhile, white women got a free pass to switch up their politics like seasonal fashion trends. They voted for Trump, then turned around screaming ?feminism?when Roe v Wade got overturned
Trum p Is Out Here Wildin?& We?re Wat ching Like...
Fast forward to now: Trump is back in full villain mode, and the chaos is at an all-time high
- He?s talking about mass deportations
- He?s openly scheming to build a damn vacation resort on the bones of Palestine.
- He?s got tech billionaires messing with the government like they got elected
- He?s gearing up to strip even more rights away
- He?s out here talking dictatorship-level control like it?s casual conversation.
- I know you seen what just happen with the President of Ukraine on national TV
And we?re supposed to drop everything and save this country again?
Nah. We watching like Homer Simpson sliding back into the bushes We Waiting to Exhale Angela Bassett-ing this situation, lighting the car on fire and walking away We Nene Leakes side-eyeing this whole election like, ?OHHH, the ghettooo ?
Black Wom en Have Alw ays Been The Backbone
Black women have been holding this country up since forever
- We were the backbone of the Civil Rights Movement? organizing, strategizing, and marching
- We saved Alabama, Georgia, and every other state in 2020 when y?all needed us.
- We built entire freedom movements, education systems, and community programs while getting zero credit
- We showed up for every single progressive movement? **abolition, suffrage, LGBTQ+ rights, labor unions, environmental justice? **only to be ignored when we needed support
And what did we get in return?Disrespect, erasure, and nonsense So this time?
We?re clocking out
What We?re Doing Inst ead.
Instead of saving democracy, Black women are:
- Building our own wealth Black women are the fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs in the U S We getting to the bag.
- Protecting our communities Y?all can go protest? we?re making sure our families and neighborhoods are straight
- Investing in ourselves Highest rates of education. Highest rates of business ownership And y?all think we got time to run behind y?all again?
- Creating safe spaces We?re centering joy, healing, and Black-owned everything.
- Focusing on political power in ways that serve us We?re done being pawns in somebody else?s game
I saw this white lady on TikTok talking slick, asking Black women to step up and ?do something?instead of dancing, resting, and minding our business.
Ma?am.
We are absolutelygoing to learn our line dances We gon?hit the "Wherethem fansat?" step. And we gon?WAPif we feel like it. You know why?Because w e already did t he w ork? and you ignored us every time
Black women always know what time it is and w hen it ?s t im e t o bounce You?re not gonna guilt-trip us into fixing what you broke Not this time Y?all wanted to lead?Go ahead t hen? lead.
Final Thought : The Cost of Ignoring Black Wom en.
So to all the folks panicking about 2025?Good luck We?ll be watching from the sidelines with our wine, our businesses, and our peace. We will take care of our own men, women, children
Y?all be blessed
Signed one tired black women!
