NEW YORK: Aiming to tap into the $50 billion potential for investments from individual and small & medium entrepreneurs of Indian origin in the US, a delegation of Indians Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) conducted an investment meet at the Indian Consulate in New York on Sept 13.
Headed by Secretary to the MOIA and Chairman of the Overseas Indian Facilitation Center (OIFC), Dr. A. Didar Singh, the delegation met with the Indian American community at the meet organized in consonance with the Indian Consulate, the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Asia Society to apprise them of investment possibilities in specific sectors of the Indian economy such as education/ knowledge, financial services and infrastructure. Indo-Canadian arrested in American drug bust India Post News Service
NEW YORK: The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested a Canadian resident of Indian origin and seized nearly 240 pounds of cocaine worth $3.6 million from him, in what the authorities say is the largest cocaine seizure to date in the Port of Buffalo. On Sept 8, CBP officers encountered Ravinder Kumar Arora, a 29 year-old citizen of India with Canadian legal
permanent resident status, as he was attempting to leave the US via the Lewiston-Queenston border crossing in Lewiston, New York. According to a CBP release, Arora, a resident of Brampton, Ontario, was the operator and lone occupant of an empty commercial trailer destined to Canada. During primary questioning, Arora appeared extremely nervous and was subsequently selected for an outbound enforcement examination. Details on page 7
