NEW YORK: With the August 31 deadline looming ahead to avail of the Internal Revenue Service's amnesty program for voluntary disclosure of undeclared overseas bank accounts, legal and tax experts are advising Indian Americans holding such accounts to come forward and

voluntarily disclose them and avoid prosecution. A hornet's nest was stirred when a New Jersey-based Indian American businessman Vaibhav Dahake was indicted earlier this year and he later pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to defraud the US by using undeclared accounts in the British Virgin Islands and at HSBC India to evade paying his income taxes.
