districts, 100 MSME parks and 50,000 small industries, along with a defence corridor and a semiconductor manufacturing park in Bihar.

first floor, managed to wave at passersby and seek help.
The drama ended after senior police officials engaged Arya, who they suspect is mentally unstable, in talks and stormed the premises and shot at him to disarm him, said a police official.
The weapon that was carried turned out to be an air gun, the police said.
“All children have been rescued and the abductor is in police detention,” said a senior police official.
The 30-minute hostage drama
caused panic in the Powai area as the police threw a security ring around the studio and asked people to vacate the area.
A Quick Reaction Team (QRT) was also rushed to the spot, fearing a terror angle.
In a video message posted after allegedly holding the Children hostage, Arya said, “I am not a terrorist…neither am I seeking money. I wish to talk to some people.”
He also explained that he had been pushed to suicide, but rather than taking his own life, he was trying to reach out to the people
he wanted to speak to through the “Hostage plan”.
The studio where the drama unfolded is popular for acting classes, and Arya plotted the “hostage episode” after about 100 children had come to give an audition in the morning, the police said.
Sources said Arya had been conducting auditions over the past four to five days. “Today, he let 80 of the audition givers leave the premises after their test but asked about 20 children to stay back,” said a police official, suggesting that the hostage plan seemed to be premeditated.

once again witnessed the iron will and inspirational strength of Sardar Patel. Today, Kashmir has completely integrated with the mainstream, breaking free from the shackles of Article 370.
"Today, even Pakistan and the masters of terrorism have realised the true strength of India.
During 'Operation Sindoor', the entire world saw that if anyone dares to raise an eye towards India, Bharat ghar mein ghus kar maarta hai. Every time, India’s response is bigger and more decisive than before. This is a message to our enemies: This is the India of Sardar Patel, a nation that never compromises on its security or dignity."
PM Modi took a strong dig at the Congress, accusing it of
abandoning Sardar Patel’s vision.
“Sardar Patel gave top priority to sovereignty. Unfortunately, in the years following his death, the governments of that time lacked the same seriousness toward protecting the nation’s sovereignty," he claimed.
"Mistakes in handling Kashmir, the rise of Naxalism, and unrest in the Northeast were all consequences of that weakness,”
he said.
He added that late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru prevented Sardar Patel’s vision for Kashmir’s full integration from being realised.
“Kashmir was divided with a separate constitution and a separate flag. The country burned for decades because of the
Congress’ mistakes. Their weak policies allowed part of Kashmir to fall under Pakistan’s illegal occupation. Pakistan used that opportunity to fuel terrorism and violence. Congress forgot Sardar Saheb’s vision, but we did not,” PM Modi said. Highlighting recent achievements in national security, PM Modi emphasised that his government has demonstrated India’s resolve both at the borders and within. “Today, infiltrators are the biggest threat to our unity and security. For decades, foreign infiltrators entered our land, consumed our resources, and disturbed our demographic balance. Earlier governments ignored the issue for vote-bank politics. But for the first time, India is taking a firm and decisive stand to protect its integrity,” he said.

in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. The victory, sealed at 341 for 5, was the highest successful run chase ever in an ODI World Cup knockout across both men’s and women’s cricket, surpassing New Zealand men’s 299 for 6 against South Africa in the 2015 semifinal.
With this win, India marched into their third Women’s World Cup final, having previously reached the summit clash in 2005 and 2017, while ending Australia’s 15-match unbeaten streak in World Cups, a run stretching back to 2022.
The night belonged to Jemimah Rodrigues, who produced an innings for the ages with an unbeaten 127, her maiden World Cup hundred and third ODI ton overall. Promoted to number three just minutes before walking in, she anchored India’s chase to perfection, guiding the side to a record-breaking triumph.
Alongside skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who struck a fluent 89, Jemimah built a monumental 167-run partnership for the third wicket — the highest stand against Australia in Women’s World Cup history and India’s best-ever in a knockout fixture.
The partnership surpassed the previous Indian record of 137 between Harmanpreet and Deepti Sharma from the 2017 semifinal in England, while also breaking Australia’s monopoly on 150-plus stands in knockout matches, with all five prior such partnerships belonging to Australian pairs, including the 155-run stand between Ellyse Perry and Phoebe Litchfield earlier in the day. Australia, having opted to bat first, looked set for another dominant performance as they posted 338 after a strong start. Phoebe Litchfield’s 119 anchored the innings, supported by Ellyse Perry’s 77 and Ashleigh Gardner’s late flourish of 63 off 45 balls. Despite the heavy scoring, India’s bowlers fought back admirably, with Nallapureddy Shee Charani claiming 2 for 49 and Deepti Sharma taking 2 for 73 to restrict the Aussies from crossing the 350-mark.
In reply, India’s chase began on a shaky note as openers Shafali Verma (10) and Smriti Mandhana (24) fell early, leaving the side in trouble at 47 for 2. But Jemimah and Harmanpreet steadied the ship, rotating strike smartly and keeping the required rate under control.
PM Modi, Amit Shah and Nitish Kumar slam INDIA Bloc in Bihar

Addressing a massive rally in Muzaffarpur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tore into Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Chief Ministerial face Tejashwi Yadav, calling them princes of corruption who are out on bail in multi-billion-dollar scams.
“In the electoral battle of Bihar, a pair of young men (who consider themselves princes) have opened a shop of false promises,” Modi said.
“They insulted me and even Chhathi Maiya, calling the sacred Chhath festival a drama. Can any Bihari tolerate such an insult to Chhathi Maiya? These people, born into privilege, cannot digest that a tea seller from a poor family has reached this position,” he added.
Thursday.
The occupant had extinguished the fire a short time later.
Police had said that officers attended and established a crime scene, where some bullet casings were found on the roadway. Police believe several shots were fired into the air. There were no reports of injuries or property damage.
The Prime Minister said that the INDIA Bloc’s leaders are afraid to go to Ayodhya after the construction of the Ram Temple, fearing it would upset their vote bank politics.
He reiterated his government’s commitment to getting Chhath Mahaparv included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List, calling it a festival of humanity and devotion.
Later, addressing another rally in Chhapra, PM Modi dismissed the
Grand Alliance’s attacks as signs of infighting between Congress and RJD.
“Their relationship is like oil and water. On the ground, their workers are fighting each other, but greed for power has brought them together,” he said.
He also alleged that the RJD and Congress are identified by five things: guns, cruelty, bitterness, misgovernance, and corruption.
“Those who kept Bihar in the lantern age can never bring electricity, and those who looted railways can never improve connectivity,” he added.
In Lakhisarai, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also hit back at Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks on PM Modi, accusing him of insulting the Prime Minister and Chhathi Maiya.
“This is Bihar. The people here will give a befitting reply to Rahul Gandhi and the Grand Alliance on November 6 and 11. When the ballot boxes are opened on November 14, everything will be clear,” Shah said while campaigning for BJP candidate and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha. Shah accused the Lalu-Rabri regime of bringing “jungle ra”j to Bihar, where kidnapping, ransom, and murders were rampant.

ISI trains over 1,000 ISKP terrorists to target Afghan Taliban, raising fears of spillover into India
New Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) Pakistan has set up four dedicated camps to train terrorists of the Islamic State in large numbers and then send them into Afghanistan to carry out attacks. Experts say that Pakistan could gradually divert some of the ISKP terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir.
Since tensions with the Afghan Taliban escalated, Pakistan and the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) have come closer as they are fighting a common enemy. The Afghan Taliban and Pakistan
have had a falling out over issues over the Durand Line and since then tensions have soared.
Pakistan has even carried out air strikes in Afghanistan and the Taliban, too, have responded fiercely.
Training camps in Pakistan, specially to train members of the ISKP have been mushrooming in recent month.
Intelligence Bureau officials say that the ISI plans to train over a 1,000 terrorists of the ISKP with the specific intention that they carry out attacks on the Afghan Taliban. Various forms of training are being imparted, the Indian agencies say. Terrorists are being trained to fight on the land so that they can take on the Taliban fighters. There are training camps for suicide strikers as well, officials say.
It is also learnt that many officers of the Pakistan Army, both current and former, are involved in the

first HTT-40 trainer aircraft takes to the skies
New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS) The first Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40) Series Production aircraft, TH 4001, which will train the next generation Air Warriors, took to the skies at the HAL facility in Bengaluru on Friday, the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) said.
Taking it to X, the HAL said,
“HTT-40 Basic Trainer Aircraft is a fully aerobatic, tandem-seat, turboprop aircraft built to provide basic flight training, aerobatics, instrument flying, and night flying.”
The Hindustan Turbo Trainer (HTT)-40 is an ab-initio trainer aircraft designed to meet primary training requirements. This fully aerobatic, tandemseat turbo trainer will feature an air-conditioned cockpit, modern avionics, hot refuelling, quick pilot changeover, and zero-zero ejection seats.
Built around a proven turboprop engine, this aircraft is designed to exhibit good low-speed handling qualities, enhancing training effectiveness. This aircraft will be certified to the FAR-23 Standard.
The trainer aircraft has a maximum speed of 450 kilometres per hour and a maximum service ceiling of six kilometres.
The HTT-40 first flew on May 31, 2016 and obtained system-level certification on June 6, 2022. Earlier, the IAF signed a contract with HAL for the supply of 70 aircraft, the induction of which was earlier supposed to commence on September 15, 2025 and continue till March 15, 2030.
The HTT-40 will enhance the quality of training of ab-initio pilots of the Indian Armed Forces. The procurement will also include a Full Mission Simulator for the aircraft, which will supplement the aerial training, allowing pilots to practise different profiles on ground, prior to the sorties, an official added.
HTT-40 is yet another step towards achieving greater self-reliance in the defence and aviation sphere in line with the Government's vision of 'AatmaNirbhar Bharat'.
Notably, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on October 17, while talking about the importance of selfreliance in the defence sector, had said, “We can no longer remain limited just to the LCA Tejas or HTT-40. Now is the time that we establish our identity in the field of next-generation aircraft, unmanned systems and civil aviation as well.”

The ISKP since its inception has been in a battle with the Taliban and seeks to overthrow the Taliban regime and rule Afghanistan. However, the ISKP has been no match for the Taliban and hence grabbed the opportunity that Pakistan offered it.
Officials say that many ISKP members are being taken into Pakistan from Afghanistan and then are sent to camps in Balochistan and the tribal areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The arrest of one Mohammad by the Afghan security officials also confirmed the claims that Pakistan had become a training ground for ISKP terrorists. The terrorist detained told the security officials that he had undergone ideological and combat training in Pakistan’s Quetta region. He said that when he entered Afghanistan with a fake ID card, his name was Mohammad.

Bengaluru: Woman killed by minor school drop outs; daughter’s role suspected
Bengaluru, Oct 31 (IANS) A complaint has been lodged with the police suspecting the involvement of a daughter and her friends in the murder of her mother. The complaint was filed by the deceased woman’s sister at the Subramanyapura Police Station in Bengaluru on Friday, and the police have begun an investigation.
The deceased is identified as 34-year-old Netravathi, a resident of Uttarahalli, near Subramanyapura in Bengaluru.
Anita K, a resident of KTM Layout, sister of the deceased has lodged a complaint in this regard against five people including the deceased woman’s daughter and
her friends.
All accused are minors aged between 16 and 17 year and all are school drop outs. The deceased woman Nethravathi worked as a helper in V Nest loan recovery company.
A case has been registered under Sections 103(1) read with 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police the incident had taken place between 10.30 p.m. on October 25 and 12 noon on October 27. The complaint was lodged in this regard on the night of October 30.
According to police, the complainant, Anita, appeared at the station and lodged a complaint stating that on October 27, her younger sister Netravathi, was found dead by hanging. She expressed suspicion regarding the circumstances of her sister’s death. Based on her complaint, a case was registered at Subramanyapura Police Station as unnatural death under Section 194(3)(iv) of BNSS.
Later, on October 29, the complainant again appeared at the station and reported that since the day of her sister’s death, the deceased's daughter had been missing. Based on this, a case was registered under Section 137(2) of BNS-2023.
Police stated, on October 30, around 1.30 p.m., Netravathi's daughter returned home and stated that on October 25, around 10.30 p.m., while she and her mother were at home, her friends had come over. When Netravathi said she would call the police about their visit, they strangled her mother with a towel, dragged her into another room, and hanged her with a saree from the ceiling fan.
The daughter claimed that her friends then threatened her with a knife, warning her not to tell anyone, and left. She said she was very frightened and went to stay at her friend’s house. After learning of her mother’s death, she returned home that day. Therefore, it appeared that the deceased’s daughter had left home on last Saturday night and had been hiding somewhere for 3–4 days. Based on her statement, the complainant expressed suspicion that the daughter, along with her friends, had murdered her sister Netravathi for some reason and hanged her to make it appear as suicide, the police stated. The complainant requested that legal action be taken against the accused and justice be given to her sister. The police have taken up the case for investigation.
Remembering Sardar Patel: The man who welded India together
As India marks Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) in 2025, it is timely to revisit the life and legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man whose statesmanship and resolve welded a vast and fragile subcontinent into a single republic.
Seven decades on, Patel’s lessons about unity, institutional discipline and civic responsibility remain indispensable for a nation that thrives on its diversity.
The Architect of Unity
When Sardar Patel took office as India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister in August 1947, the map of the subcontinent was a jigsaw of more than 560 princely states — some eager to join the Union, others uncertain or hostile.
Through a mixture of tact, negotiation and firmness he managed to integrate the great majority into India, converting a precarious political geography into a sovereign whole. As
former prime minister Morarji Desai noted, “the integration of the states could be termed as the crowning achievement of Vallabhbhai Patel’s life.”
Patel insisted that political union without moral cohesion was hollow. “Manpower without unity is not a strength unless it is harmonized and united properly; then it becomes a spiritual power,” he said.
Equally plain was his civic warning: “It is the prime responsibility of every citizen to feel that his country is free and to defend its freedom is his duty.”
These were not rhetorical flourishes but a program for nation-building: unity anchored in citizenship and duty.
Unifiers Across Regions
The task of nation-making is not peculiar to the subcontinent. Across the Gulf, leaders such as King Abdulaziz Al Saud and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan similarly transformed fragmented polities into unified states; today they are remembered as founding heroes by Saudis and Emiratis alike.
Their example — of combining political consolidation with appeals to shared identity and purpose — offers a useful
Delhi HC upholds divorce over repeated verbal abuse by wife
New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS) The Delhi High Court has upheld a decree of divorce granted to an advocate against his wife, holding that her repeated verbal abuse and derogatory messages amounted to “grave mental cruelty.”
A Bench of Justices Anil Kshetrapal and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar dismissed the wife’s appeal against the Family Court’s 2023 judgment that had dissolved the couple’s marriage under Section 13(1)(ia) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.
The Justice Kshetrapal-led Bench said that the wife’s conduct, including sending abusive messages that questioned her husband’s legitimacy and insulted his mother, caused “grave mental agony”. “The most compelling evidence comprises the series of text messages sent from the Appellant’s mobile number… which contained vile, derogatory and scandalous language,” it observed.
“Specific messages dated 09.05.2011, 15.05.2011, and 27.06.2011, which included terms such as ‘bastard’, ‘son of a
bitch,’ and suggestions that his mother should ‘earn through prostitution’, are by themselves sufficient to constitute mental cruelty of the gravest kind,” added the Delhi High Court.
Rejecting the wife’s argument that the husband must have sent those messages to himself from her wife’s phone, the Justice Kshetrapal-led Bench held that the explanation was “inherently improbable” and an “afterthought”.
It said: “The appellant’s explanation that the respondent (husband) must have sent these messages to himself from her phone is inherently improbable and was rightly rejected by the learned Family Court as an afterthought, particularly since this defence was never pleaded in the written statement and no corroborative evidence was adduced to support it.”
“Words and communications of the sort proved in this case are not innocuous,” observed the Delhi High Court, adding that the Family Court had correctly regarded them as “causing grave mental agony to the respondent (husband).” “The appellant (wife) habitually used derogatory epithets such as ‘janwar’, ‘son of a bitch’, ‘haramzada’, ‘kutta’, and ‘kamina’ in daily interactions,” the Justice Kshetrapal-led Bench recorded.
India’s Indira-fearless, resolute and steadfast: LoP Rahul Gandhi leads tributes on late PM’s death
comparison: the work of unity is at once practical and symbolic, military and moral.
In India, Patel faced delicate missions — Hyderabad, Junagadh and other accession questions — that required precisely that balance of persuasion and authority.
Leaders who can see beyond narrow interests and bind diverse polities under a common civic roof leave durable legacy. Diversity as Strength; Institutions as Foundation Patel’s vision of India was not uniformity in disguise, but pluralism in practice. He believed India’s variety of languages, faiths and customs should flourish inside the framework of a single constitutional order.
For that, he built institutions — above all the All India Services, the so-called “steel frame” that would guarantee impartial administration across regions. His directions to the civil service were blunt and timeless: “A civil servant cannot afford to, and must not, take part in politics. Nor must he involve himself in communal disputes. To stray from the path of rectitude in either respect is to debase public service and diminish its dignity.”
New Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha (LoP) and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday led the nation in paying tributes to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary, recalling her as “India’s Indira — fearless, resolute, and steadfast in the face of every power.”
In a post on X, LoP Gandhi wrote, “India's Indira — Fearless, resolute, and steadfast in the face of every power. Grandma, you taught me that nothing is greater than India's identity and self-respect. Your courage, compassion, and patriotism continue to inspire every step I take even today.”
LoP Gandhi offered floral tributes to the late Prime Minister at Shakti Sthal in New Delhi, where he honoured her “steadfast leadership, fearless spirit, and deep commitment to the people of India.”
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and a host of other Congress leaders also paid homage at the ceremony of remembrance,
marking the 41st anniversary of the late PM Indira Gandhi’s martyrdom at Shakti Sthal.
Paying his respects, Mallikarjun Kharge quoted late PM Indira Gandhi in his post on X: “As long as there is breath in me, service will not stop, and when my life ends, then I can say that...every drop of my blood, every single drop of blood...will keep one India alive.” Kharge added, “On the martyrdom day of Indira Gandhi Ji, our first woman Prime Minister of India and our ideal, such an embodiment of courage, who played an important role with her strong willpower, skillful leadership and farsightedness to preserve the unity and integrity of India and built a strong progressive India, humble tribute to her.”
Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal also remembered the late PM, posting on X, “On this day in 1984, one of India’s greatest leaders was martyred. She stood unflinchingly for India’s sovereignty and integrity and paid the price with her own life. "I offer my tributes to our guiding light, India’s Iron Lady Smt. Indira Gandhi ji on her death anniversary. Her life, from participating in our freedom struggle as a child to leading India through turbulent times with great courage and vision, will always be an inspiration for every Indian. Beijing, Oct 24 (IANS) Citing the resumption of direct flights between China and India over the weekend, Beijing on Friday said that it is willing to promote the continued healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.
"The resumption of direct flights between mainland China and India is the latest progress in earnestly implementing the important consensus reached by the two leaders during their Tianjin meeting. It is also a positive measure to facilitate friendly exchanges between the
more than 2.8 billion people of China and India," Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said during a regular media briefing on Friday.
"China is willing to work with India to view and handle ChinaIndia relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, promote the continued healthy and stable development of bilateral relations, better benefit the two countries and their peoples, and make due contributions to maintaining peace and prosperity in Asia and the world," he added.
Indian airline IndiGo recently announced restarting daily flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou on October 26, becoming one of the first Indian carriers to resume direct service to China.
The announcement was made after the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that India and China would restart direct flights between the designated cities.
The low-cost airline had also announced new daily direct flights between New Delhi and China's Guangzhou from November 10. The airline said that the route will be operated using Airbus A320 aircraft.
On Thursday, China Eastern Airlines announced the resumption of flights on its India route, and the direct flights between Shanghai and Delhi starting from November 9, in fresh momentum for people-topeople exchanges and economic and trade collaboration between New Delhi and Beijing.

Inside Canada’s violent underworld: Gang wars, ISI links are fuelling transnational violence
New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS) The shooting of Punjabi singer Teji Kahlon in Canada signals the rise of gang wars in the country. Over the last couple of years, multiple incidents such as the shooting have been reported, indicating that these wars have become a nightmare for the security officials in Canada. The gang wars are not just playing out in Canada, but in the United States as well. Officials say that one of the main reasons for these wars escalating is the split between gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar. Earlier this month owing to the split, Harry Boxer who was running the Bishnoi gang from abroad was shot at in California.
Both the shootings, in Canada and the US, were claimed by Goldy Brar gang member Rohit Godara. Central Intelligence agencies say that these wars are only going to escalate as the rivalry between the two gangs that once worked together has only worsened. These gangs continue to thrive for multiple reasons. First and foremost most gangsters have the backing of the ISI, which uses them to further its Khalistan agenda. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) during its probe learnt that these ISIbacked gangs work in tandem with these Khalistani elements, who have managed to find a safe haven in Canada. For years, Canada has avoided dealing with the problem.
However after Mark Carney became Prime Minister, ties with India have been reset. Both countries are working towards solving this problem. It is a good start says one official, while also
adding that these things, however, take time.
The nexus between these gangs and the ISI dates back a long time. The ISI had been using these gang initially only to further their narcotics and arms trade. It was later on that they were roped in to help the Khalistan movement. The gangsters who are living under the patronage of the ISI in countries such as Canada, arrange for men to carry out terror attacks.
Further the ISI advises these gangsters who are wanted in India to leave the country and take refuge in Canada. To ensure that they are protected, the ISI has roped in the proscribed Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) to do the job. For these gangs to operate abroad it is impossible to do so without the patronage of the SFJ. The members of the SFJ are politically well-connected and this helps the gangsters.

congratulations on my selection as a Prime Minister. I look forward to working with Your Excellency to further promote the Japan-India Special Strategic and Global Partnership," Takaichi posted on X.
The statement was made in response to PM Modi's congratulatory message on Tuesday. PM Modi had extended heartfelt wishes to Takaichi on her election as Japan's PM and said that he looks forward to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations. He called "deepening ties" between India and Japan vital for peace, stability and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific and beyond.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote,
India a strategic longterm partner for us: Airbus Chairman Rene Obermann
New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS) Rene Obermann, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Airbus, has said that India is a strategic longterm partner for them and he is very bullish on India.
Speaking at a panel discussion on 'Growing Together: Trade and Alliances in a Changing World' at the ‘Berlin Global Dialogue’ in Germany, in the presence of Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Obermann said he was recently in India for about a week and was “completely blown away by the level of engineering and quality excellence there”.
“For Airbus, India is a strategic, long-term partner. The part of the discussion was not just how can you make things cheaper for us but how can we make things better, by leveraging the capabilities of Indian technologies and the tech talent there,” Obermann told the gathering. The discussions were also on how
to further evolve the partnership with India.
“The situation offers unique opportunity for Europe. I am very bullish on India. On the entrepreneurial level, India offers excellent education and superb engineering talent,” said Obermann.
Goyal said he was delighted to participate in the panel discussion.
“Emphasised on how India continues to look at its trade partnerships from the prism of long-term mutual growth.
Highlighted the vast opportunities that are opening up in the country for global companies to participate in and build for the future,” the minister posted on X social media platform.

Following his high-level engagements at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the Federal Chancellery, Goyal met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel.
India says concepts of democracy alien to Pakistan, demands end to
repression in occupied Kashmir
United Nations, Oct 25 (IANS)
"Heartiest congratulations, Sanae Takaichi, on your election as the Prime Minister of Japan. I look forward to working closely with you to further strengthen the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. Our deepening ties are vital for peace, stability, and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific and beyond."
Takaichi was elected as Japan's Prime Minister on Tuesday, following a runoff election in the Parliament. She is the first woman to be elected Japan's PM. She received 125 votes in the Upper House -- just one vote above the simple majority necessary for victory. Previously, she secured 237 votes in the Lower House, exceeding the required majority of 233.
Concepts of democracy and constitution are alien to Pakistan that operates under the shadow of the military, and it can't understand how the ideals are integral to Kashmir, India has said, demanding that Islamabad end repression in areas it illegally occupies.
"The people of Jammu and Kashmir exercise their fundamental rights in accordance with India's time-tested democratic traditions and constitutional framework," India's Permanent Representative to the UN, P. Harish, said on Friday.
"We, of course, know that these are concepts alien to Pakistan."
"We call upon Pakistan to end the grave and ongoing human rights violations in the areas illegally occupied by it, where the population is in open revolt against Pakistan's military occupation, repression, brutality
and illegal exploitation of resource," he added.
While the UN Security Council was meeting on the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN with the theme, "Looking into the Future", Pakistan's Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad was looking backwards to make a misleading statement reaching out to 1948.
He claimed that the Security Council resolution on a "plebiscite" had not been fulfilled. However, Resolution 47 of April 1948 primarily demanded that Pakistan withdraw its armed forces, security personnel, and civilians from the areas it had invaded.
Kashmiris in the areas Pakistan continues to occupy illegally have risen in revolt, and it has brutally attacked them, killing at least 12 people last month in the latest crackdown. Pakistan's claims of the Security Council calling for a plebiscite have been overtaken by history as it failed to heed the primary demand of the resolution that it withdraw from the occupied territories, and, in the meanwhile, Kashmiris not under its occupation have integrated themselves into India's democracy.
South Korea: World leaders discuss ways to tackle global trade uncertainties
Gyeongju, Oct 31 (IANS) World leaders gathered at the AsiaPacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit on Friday as they seek ways to boost resilience and spur growth amid global trade uncertainties, with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung calling for "cooperation and solidarity" among APEC member economies.
The two-day gathering has brought together the leaders of 21 APEC member economies, guest nations and representatives of international organisations, with discussions on sustaining free trade and bolstering regional economic integration topping the agenda.
During the first session, which will be run under the theme of "Towards a More Connected Resilient Region and Beyond," Lee emphasised the importance of the APEC gathering amid a shifting free trade order and rising global economic uncertainty.
"Cooperation and solidarity is the
surest path for a better future,"
Lee said in his opening address.
"We all stand at a critical turning point as the international order undergoes rapid transformation."
He also noted that the technological revolution led by artificial intelligence presents both unprecedented crises and opportunities.
Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the meeting, during which he made five proposals for "building an inclusive open Asia-Pacific economy for all," the Chinese foreign ministry said on its website.
He also called for joint efforts to safeguard the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at its core, build an open economic environment in the region, and maintain the stability and smooth flow of industrial and supply chains.
Friday's meeting was held in the absence of US President Donald Trump, who departed the previous day after attending a business forum and holding talks with Lee and Xi.
The meeting brought together the leaders of the 21 member economies, including Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi,
along with representatives of several international organisations.
Before the session, Lee welcomed his visiting counterparts and participating guests, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, whom he greeted and briefly spoke with as they entered the summit hall. This marks the first time the two leaders have met since Lee took office in June.
The presidential office said the leaders plan to discuss ways to make the Asia-Pacific region "more open, dynamic and resilient" at the session.
"President Lee will take on the role of a bridge for leaders to help build consensus on the need for closer cooperation. We aim to restore the region's commitment to collaboration and explore concrete measures for APEC to remain the region's key economic forum and a relevant platform for the future, it said.
South Korea, as the host of this year's APEC events, seeks to produce an outcome endorsed by all APEC participants in its envisioned "Gyeongju Declaration" and put the spotlight on its own initiatives, such as AI and demographic changes, Yonhap news agency reported.

Indian immigrants most economically beneficial group to US: Study
Washington, Oct 24 (IANS) A latest study by the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank, has revealed that “Indian immigrants are the most economically beneficial immigrant group” in the US that reduces national debt and contributes to GDP growth. The report, published by the Institute on Thursday, also revealed that an average Indian immigrant reduces the US “national debt by over $1.6 million over 30 years and increases GDP more than immigrants from any other country.”
By legal status, H-1B visa holders expand the GDP the most, with an average H-1B visa holder increasing it by $500,000 after 30 years while reducing the debt by $2.3 million, the study added.
Daniel Martino, the report’s author and Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, termed South Asian immigrants, especially Indians, the “most
fiscally positive group.”
He predicts that if the H-1B visa program is ended, it would expand the US debt by $185 billion over 10 years while shrinking the economy by $26 billion.
The report also recommends ending the H-1B lottery process and implementing a wage-based visa regime.
The report comes as the White House on Thursday vowed to fight lawsuits against the administration’s crackdown on H-1B visas.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said: “The president’s main priority has always been to put American workers first. The administration will fight these lawsuits in court. We know for far too long, the H-1B visa system has been spammed with fraud, and that's driven down American wages. So, the President wants to refine this system, which is part of the reason he implemented these new policies.”
Last week, the US Chamber of Commerce, the country’s biggest business organisation, sued the Trump administration over the new visa rules, calling it “unlawful.”
Chirag Paswan accuses RJD of using Muslims as ‘bonded vote bank’
Patna, Oct 25 (IANS) Union Minister for Food Processing Industries and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Chirag Paswan on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), accusing it of exploiting the Muslim community for votes while denying them top political positions. He urged the community to break free from what he termed as being a "bonded vote bank".
Paswan recalled that in 2005, his father and LJP founder, the late Ram Vilas Paswan, had made a significant political move to support the idea of a Muslim
Chief Minister in Bihar, but the RJD refused to back it.
"In 2005, my leader, my father, the late Ram Vilas Paswan ji sacrificed even his own party to make a Muslim Chief Minister -- yet even then, you did not support him," Chirag Paswan said in a post on X.
He accused RJD of maintaining the same stance even two decades later.
"RJD was not ready for a Muslim Chief Minister even in 2005, and today in 2025, it is neither ready to give a Muslim Chief Minister nor a Deputy Chief Minister!" Paswan remarked, questioning the party's commitment to inclusion.
Chirag Paswan further appealed to the Muslim community to demand fair representation.
"If you remain a bonded vote bank, how will you get respect and participation?" he asked, appealing to Muslim voters.
The Union Minister's comments
came in the wake of the Mahagathbandhan's recent announcement naming Tejashwi Yadav as its Chief Ministerial face and Mukesh Sahani as one of the Deputy Chief Ministerial candidates for the upcoming 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
The absence of a Muslim leader in any top post within the alliance has triggered discontent.
Several AIMIM leaders have also expressed disappointment over this.
Speaking to reporters in Patna on Thursday, Chirag Paswan reiterated his father's longstanding stance.
"This is the same RJD to whom my father in 2005 said that they should make a Muslim the Chief Minister," he said, accusing the party of double standards.
"For them, Muslims are just a vote bank. They talk about inclusion but practice exclusion," he added.
‘Biggest fan of PM Modi’: Begusarai resident attends 160
rallies across India dressed as Lord Hanuman
Begusarai, Oct 24 (IANS)
Shravan Shah, a devoted fan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has attended 160 rallies across India. He is a familiar face at public meetings in Bihar, where he appears dressed as Lord Hanuman, symbolising his unwavering admiration for the Prime Minister.
Shravan Shah, a young man from Begusarai, arrives at political gatherings wearing saffron attire, holding a mace in one hand emblazoned with “NaMo BJP.” On his head, he sports an inflatable hat shaped like a lotus, the
BJP’s symbol. In his other hand, he carries a banner featuring photographs of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi together.
Speaking to IANS, Shravan said, “This is the 160th rally of Prime Minister Modi that I have attended. PM Modi has done a lot of development work in Bihar and launched numerous schemes for the state’s progress.”
“I walk barefoot across the country for him,” he told IANS.
“I do it for PM Modi. The Prime Minister has worked tirelessly for everyone, including the poor and women. PM Modi is the first Prime Minister who was born into a poor family, and he truly understands the struggles of common people.”
Shravan also praised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, saying,
“Not only PM Modi but CM Nitish Kumar has also done a lot for Bihar’s development. When he came to power, the situation was dire, but things have changed completely now. PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar have transformed Bihar. This time too, the NDA will win with a huge majority. I want to congratulate Nitish Kumar in advance, as he will become the Chief Minister again.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi is currently visiting Bihar. Earlier in the day, he took a swipe at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress, saying that the leaders of the “jungle raj” era cared only about their families and ruined the lives of Bihar’s youth. He asserted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has made the state prosperous.

chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and the Mahagathbandhan during a massive rally in Siwan, accusing them of trying to revive the "jungle raj" era in Bihar.
Speaking to reporters, Mishra said, "You must have understood by now that our BJP and the NDA genuinely want the welfare and progress of Bihar. They wish to promote the right candidates -- those who can unite society, uphold the principle of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,' and work towards building a Viksit Bharat with a Viksit Bihar and Viksit Buxar."

‘All is well in NDA’ reflects in PM Modi’s campaign launch for Bihar polls
New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS)
Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly lauding ally and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership in the state on the day he launched a campaign in favour of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates may end a leadership controversy.
As ought to Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan’s public show of obeisance to Nitish Kumar end doubts over their current relation. Chirag bowed down before a sitting Nitish to touch the septuagenarian Chief Minister’s feet at a poll programme in Samastipur district’s Karpoorigram.
At the campaign launch in Karpoorigram, Prime Minister Modi shared his confidence that the alliance under Nitish in Bihar would break all its previous records and deliver the biggest ever mandate.
In Begusarai again, the Prime Minister reiterated his backing
for Nitish Kumar for years of good governance, and credited the NDA government for stabilising Bihar after the “jungle raj” years.
Contrasting the NDA’s governance record with what he called dynastic and corrupt politics of the Opposition, he presented Nitish as central to the ruling bloc's development agenda for Bihar. Promising accelerated industrial growth and job creation, he urged voters to give the NDA a large mandate while Nitish was sitting beside him.
The leadership debate was sparked a few days ago by what seemed like a routine remark from Home Minister Amit Shah, who, when asked about the NDA’s likely Chief Ministerial candidate, stated that the decision would rest with the elected MLAs after the election results — a standard response in line with established procedure.
However, the Opposition seized upon his statement to suggest that the NDA remains uncertain about Nitish Kumar’s position in the post-election scenario. Meanwhile, the extended seatsharing discussions among NDA allies have fueled speculation that Chirag Paswan, reportedly discontented, might once again consider taking an independent path, reminiscent of his stance during the 2020 Assembly elections.
PM Modi targets RJD-Cong over ‘family politics’, says they are trying to steal Jan Nayak title
Mishra said, "Home Minister Amit Shah received a warm welcome in Buxar, and the crowd's continuous response to his every word reflected their faith in the Indian government. Everyone who came there resolved that for the future of a better Buxar and a better Bihar, we will move ahead with a determined spirit to build a golden Bihar."
Taking aim at the dynastic politics, he said, "If you look at the past, many times politics was used only to serve personal or family interests. But today, Bihar is awakened -- it has given direction to the country's politics.
Patna, Oct 24 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his Bihar Assembly election campaign from Samastipur, the birthplace of Bharat Ratna Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur, on Friday, where he addressed a massive rally.
The Prime Minister invoked the legacy of Karpoori Thakur while launching a sharp attack on the RJD-Congress alliance, accusing them of prioritising their families over the people of Bihar.
“RJD and Congress are only concerned about the political future of their own families.
That’s why they are setting new records in lying to the youth of Bihar. Where there is RJD, there can be no law and order. Under their rule, extortion, murder, ransom, and kidnapping flourished as industries,” PM
Modi said.
Taking a direct swipe at RJD’s jungle raj era, the Prime Minister said, “The RJD’s jungle raj ruined several generations of Bihar. These are the people who are out on bail in scams worth thousands of crores. Their habit of stealing is such that now they are even trying to steal the title of ‘Jan Nayak’. The people of Bihar will never tolerate this insult to Karpoori Babu.”
The Prime Minister said the NDA government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, was working to transform good governance into prosperity inspired by Karpoori Thakur’s ideals.
“There is no corner of Bihar where development work isn’t happening. Roads, electricity, water, internet, gas connections -- these are not just facilities but tools of empowerment,” he said.
Highlighting the NDA government’s focus on infrastructure and welfare, PM Modi said, “The BJP-NDA government has given three times more funds for Bihar’s development compared to the Congress era.

Sean Crick, head of labor statistics at the ABS, said that the labor force participation rate among working-age Australians rose as a result to 67.0 per cent in September, just below the recordhigh 67.2 per cent set in January.
The total number of hours worked by Australians was 0.5 per cent higher in September than in August.
Earlier in September, Australia's central bank decided to keep interest rates on hold in a move that was widely anticipated by economists.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) said that its Monetary Policy Board voted unanimously to keep the cash rate unchanged at 3.6 per cent during a meeting on Tuesday.
The board, which has cut the key interest rate by 0.25 percentage point three times in 2025 from 4.35 per cent at the start of the year, said on Tuesday that there are "uncertainties" about domestic economic activity and inflation stemming from local and international developments. It acknowledged that Australia's annual rate of headline and underlying inflation were within the RBA's 2-3 per cent target band in the second quarter of 2025, but said inflation in the third quarter may be higher than previously forecast, according to the monetary policy decision statement.
From the editor’s desk Pakistan’s poison comes home to roost
FairPoint: Bihar election proving to be political mirror reflecting Rahul Gandhi’s activism dilemma
New Delhi, Oct 26 (IANS)
The results of the Bihar Assembly elections are set to be announced on November 14, but the politics leading up to it has already exposed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in an unflattering light.
Bihar's politics has long been seen as a mirror reflecting the emerging national narrative. It captures grassroots sentiment as well as a leader's ability to manoeuvre emotions and situations. This election, in particular, is shaping up to be a key indicator of the country's political direction. The signals from the ground are clear -and hard to ignore.
The Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) seems to have finally put its house in order, declaring Tejashwi Yadav as its Chief Ministerial candidate and, unsurprisingly, naming Mukesh Sahani as the Deputy CM face. The opposition alliance may now be trying to project unity and purpose for the ultimate result, but within its ranks, an unspoken verdict has already been delivered. That internal verdict should deeply worry the Congress party -- and more specifically, Rahul Gandhi. The Grand Alliance has effectively sidelined the Gandhi scion, who had hoped to play a leading role in Bihar's elections and use that platform to challenge the BJPled government at the Centre. But the tide never turned in his favour.
Instead, it swept the Mahagathbandhan into a storm that ended up showing Congress -- and Rahul Gandhi -- their true place in the pecking order.
Over 16 days in Bihar, from August 17 to September 1, Rahul Gandhi undertook the muchpublicised 'Voter Adhikar Yatra'. Designed as a moral crusade to "protect the vote", it was meant to spark a movement against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.
Gandhi directly attacked the PM, using slogans like "vote
New Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS) There is a strange sense of satisfaction -- almost poetic justice -- in watching Pakistan being battered by Afghanistan. Some might call this feeling sadistic, but as Chanakya wisely said, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." For India, long the target of Pakistan's hostility and deceit, the current turn of events feels like history correcting itself.
chor" and "vote chori" to rally support.
He travelled 1,300 kilometres across 25 of Bihar's 38 districts, covering 110 Assembly constituencies. With the slogan "vote chor gaddi chhor", he walked dusty roads, rode motorbikes, and even had an Opposition chief minister accompany him in open jeeps.
Perhaps he imagined this campaign could echo the historic JP Movement of 1974, which began in Bihar as a student-led uprising against misrule and corruption.
However, the 16-day campaign turned out to be more of a political excursion than a mass awakening. Crowds were thin, and enthusiasm was limited. At times, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav was seen guiding Rahul during the yatra -- while simultaneously asserting his own political individuality.
For Rahul, it was a "vote-chori" crusade, but for Tejashwi, it was an opportunity to sense the real mood of the people. And that mood was unmistakable: voters were not buying into Rahul Gandhi's narrative.
They knew their voting rights were intact, and there was no groundswell of anger on the streets. Had people truly felt their votes were being stolen, Bihar would have been up in protest. That simply didn't happen.
Rahul Gandhi may have believed his "vote chor" activism would make him Bihar's new jan nayak (people's leader), but Tejashwi and other alliance partners read the situation differently.
Their response was telling: the INDIA bloc failed to reach an amicable seat-sharing arrangement and refused to bow to Rahul's brand of activism. Eventually, the seven-party Grand Alliance went along with the views of the other six partners and put the Congress in its place. Rahul Gandhi was conspicuously absent from the crucial October 23 press conference, where the alliance unveiled its strategy. The event's banner prominently featured Tejashwi Yadav -- but Rahul Gandhi was nowhere to be seen.
Since its creation in 1947, Pakistan has relentlessly pursued a campaign of animosity against India -- waging wars, fuelling terrorism, and backing everything that goes against India. Now, in its 78th year, the nation finds itself trapped in the chaos it has been unleashing on others. The Taliban, its one-time ally and creation, is now turning its guns on the Pakistani Army.
Social media is flooded with videos of Taliban fighters humiliating Pakistani soldiers, burning their camps, and parading captured uniforms as trophies. These images capture not just the battlefield humiliation but also the deep resentment Afghanistan harbours toward Islamabad -- a country that exploited it for decades in the name of strategic depth.
As usual, when faced with failure, Pakistan's wrath has fallen on the powerless. Its Army, having failed to subdue the Taliban, is persecuting helpless Afghan refugees within its borders -demolishing homes, thrashing civilians, and even denying children access to schools.
Such actions are abhorrent, yet human rights organisations that otherwise speak loudly on smaller issues involving India have chosen silence.
The Pakistani establishment has a long record of targeting the innocent. During Operation Sindoor, when Indian precision strikes neutralised Pakistanibacked terrorists, the Pakistan Army retaliated by shelling civilian areas in Jammu and Kashmir. Over 25 Indians were killed, around 50 were injured, and even places of worship -- a temple, a gurdwara, and a mosque -- were damaged.
Ethics have never been the Pakistan Army's strength. For decades, it has run terror camps, inflamed sectarian passions, and offered sanctuary to some of the world's most notorious terrorists. Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, lived comfortably in Abbottabad for years until he was eliminated by the US forces. Dawood Ibrahim, India's most wanted criminal, continues to find a safe haven there, even as Pakistan denies his presence.
Pakistan's moral bankruptcy was captured poignantly in the film 'Border'. In one scene, an Indian soldier offers water to a severely wounded Pakistani. Instead of accepting compassion, the Pakistani tries to stab his
benefactor. The Indian soldier, embodying dignity and restraint, chooses not to retaliate. This contrast defines both nations' characters -- humanity versus hatred.
That moral distinction was once again visible during Operation Sindoor, when the Indian Army neutralised terrorists without harming a single civilian.
Pakistan, in response, deliberately targeted civilians, underlining the difference between a professional army and a terror-driven force.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan has reached its breaking point.
The Afghans, long subjected to Pakistan's manipulation, are now asserting their independence. Few could have imagined that the Taliban -- nurtured and supported by Pakistan since the 1990s -- would one day fight its patron.
The Taliban first rose during the civil war following the Soviet withdrawal, capturing Kabul in 1996 and imposing a harsh, ultraconservative version of Islamic law. That regime lasted until 2001, when a US-led invasion toppled it after the September 11 attacks. Pakistan's duplicity during this period -- aiding the Taliban while posing as an ally to the West -- made Afghanistan a villain, while the real mastermind hid in Rawalpindi.
When the Taliban returned to power on August 15, 2021, Pakistan rejoiced. The generals in Islamabad dreamed of turning Afghanistan into a puppet state and relocating their terror networks there. But they miscalculated. Afghans, fiercely proud of their sovereignty, have refused to bow to Pakistani control.
Afghanistan's Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, summed it up during his visit to India: "The Soviet Union came and was defeated. The troops of more than 50 countries came with the US and NATO -- there was fighting for 20 years -- and now Afghanistan is independent and standing on its own feet." And this is exactly what Pakistan's
establishment cannot tolerate -- an independent Afghanistan, thinking freely and rekindling ties with India.
Unable to accept Afghanistan's will to exert independence, Pakistan has resorted to its default setting -- violence. It has bombed Afghan border cities, killing civilians, including women, children, and even cricketers. And true to its habit, Islamabad is trying to twist the narrative, blaming India for the escalating tensions.
The international community's silence is striking. Despite overwhelming evidence, few global powers have called out Pakistan for its cross-border aggression. Yet, the facade is cracking. Pakistan stands exposed as a terror-producing nation that has long tried to destroy South Asia's peace.
For India, this moment carries a sense of grim amusement. The nation that once weaponised extremism to destabilise others is now being consumed by it. The poison Pakistan spread for decades is corroding its own foundations.
The unfolding conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan is more than a regional skirmish -- it is a moral reckoning. It exposes the dangers of nurturing extremism for political gain and the inevitability of karmic justice. Pakistan's deep state may still cling to denial, but reality is closing in fast.
As Afghanistan fights to reclaim its dignity and independence, and as India watches from the sidelines, one truth stands clear: those who sow hatred and terror eventually fall victim to their own creation. Pakistan's long tryst with duplicity and violence has finally come full circle -- the poison it brewed for others is now destroying itself.

Pak-Afghan confrontation marks end of Islamabad’s ‘strategic depth’ fantasy
New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS) Four years ago, when the last American military planes lifted off from Bagram Air Base, Pakistan’s generals could hardly contain their jubilation.
The Taliban’s triumphant return to Kabul was hailed in Rawalpindi as a vindication of Pakistan’s decades-long regional strategy of cultivating a supposed “strategic depth” that would give it decisive influence and secure a pliant Islamist buffer state against India. But history has come full circle, and the illusion has been shattered. This month’s deadly cross-border clashes between Pakistani and Taliban forces mark not only a breakdown of the post-2021 “Taliban-ISI detente” but a dramatic transformation of Pakistan’s regional position. What began as a calculated project of proxy management has devolved into open confrontation. Pakistan’s military, which was once the patron and benefactor of the Afghan Taliban, finds itself squarely in direct combat with its former proteges.
On the night of October 11, the Durand Line border from Chitral to Angoor Adda in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Bahram Chah in Balochistan saw intense fighting between the Pakistani Army and Afghan Taliban forces. Islamabad deployed advanced fighter jets and artillery against Afghan Taliban positions, claiming to have killed more than 200 of their soldiers, besides Pakistan Taliban fighters. On the other hand, Kabul has claimed to have killed 58 Pakistani soldiers, with Pakistan Army’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) acknowledging
23 casualties among its ranks. The clashes were only halted after urgent mediation by Saudi Arabia and Qatar, underlining the gravity of a conflict that could easily spiral into a full-fledged border war.
This latest episode of crossborder military confrontation between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban is not a mere border skirmish. It signifies a monumental failure of Pakistan’s regional policy, which for long relied on the dangerous fiction that militant proxies can be managed, that ideological kinship can substitute for sovereignty, and that regional dominance can be sustained through coercion.
It is no secret how Pakistan’s military establishment invested heavily in the Afghan Taliban’s return to power with a belief that it could shape Kabul’s choices in ways that served its own regional interests.
During the two decades of the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) carefully nurtured Taliban networks across Pakistan’s borderlands, offering sanctuary to senior leaders even as Islamabad collected billions in U.S. counterterrorism aid.
That duplicity was tolerated by Washington so long as Pakistan appeared to cooperate against Al-Qaeda. But with the U.S. withdrawal, the contradictions came home to roost. Once in power, the Afghan Taliban no longer needed Pakistan and certainly no longer wished to be seen as its client. As Kabul began to assert an independent foreign policy, seeking legitimacy and recognition from regional powers such as Iran, China, Russia, and India, it started to sorely pinch Pakistan.
For Islamabad, this autonomy was intolerable. The Pakistani establishment had built its entire regional calculus on the
assumption that Afghanistan would remain strategically subordinate and a convenient hinterland for influence projection and a denial zone for its adversaries, particularly India. But the new Taliban government has repeatedly rejected Pakistani diktats, especially regarding the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Pakistani insurgent group that Islamabad alleges is operating from Afghan soil. The Taliban regime’s refusal to curb the TTP’s activities or extradite its leaders has become the single greatest irritant in bilateral ties.
Pakistan’s October 9 airstrikes across the Afghan border, reportedly targeting TTP chief Noor Wali Mehsud, were not just tactical reprisals but expressions of strategic frustration, particularly after dozens of its soldiers have been killed in the last few months, including 12 a day earlier, in anti-insurgency operations.
The strikes hit targets in Kabul, Khost, Paktia, and Paktika, which signalled a willingness to escalate not just the militant group but also directly against the Afghan state.
But these actions also reveal the limits of Pakistan’s militarised regional diplomacy. After having relied on coercion and proxies for decades, the Pakistani state appears incapable of engaging its neighbours through civilian or economic instruments. As such, it appears that whenever its influence begins to wane, its instinct is to reach for the gun. The result, however, is a region turning increasingly hostile. The Taliban’s Afghanistan is now as defiant as India and Iran, both of whom Islamabad once viewed as its chief adversaries. Pakistan’s aggressive tactics have left it isolated in a neighbourhood where nearly every actor now questions its credibility.
For New Delhi, the spectacle
unfolding across the Durand Line offers a quiet but profound vindication. For years, Indian policymakers have argued that Pakistan’s strategy of cultivating militant groups as foreignpolicy tools would ultimately backfire. That prophecy has now materialised: the very proxies Islamabad once nurtured to gain leverage over others have turned inward, threatening Pakistan’s own security and sovereignty. The rise in attacks by the TTP inside Pakistan and Islamabad’s inability to control them strengthen India’s argument that the use of extremist proxies is inherently self-destructive. It also bolsters New Delhi’s case internationally, especially among Western governments, that Islamabad remains the instigator and the victim of terrorism after having relied on distinctions such as “good” and “bad” Taliban.
The Taliban’s growing independence, meanwhile, provides New Delhi with a rare diplomatic opening. In a move almost unthinkable a few years ago, the Taliban government’s foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, made his first official visit to India this month, coinciding with Pakistan was carrying out its airstrikes across the border and subsequent border clashes. The timing was unmistakable as Islamabad bombed Afghan territory, Kabul courted Indian engagement. Muttaqi’s visit underlined a convergence of interests between Kabul and New Delhi. The Taliban have publicly supported Indiabacked Chabahar port project of Iran as a potential trade corridor for Afghanistan, which could reduce dependence on Pakistan’s ports. For India, this development represents a subtle yet significant strategic gain as it undercuts Pakistan’s decades-old dream of monopolising Afghanistan’s trade routes and geopolitical orientation.
Additionally, the military clashes and Kabul’s diplomatic realignment mark the symbolic death of Pakistan’s “strategic depth” doctrine, wherein it dreamt of nurturing Afghanistan as a pliant backyard for its regional ambitions. But Islamabad and Rawalpindi now have to reconcile with a reality that they have long denied, which is that Afghanistan, like any other sovereign state, will pursue its own interests, even when its interests collide with Pakistan. This overreach risks further eroding the military’s credibility. Pakistanis have been increasingly questioning the failure of the army, which controls the levers of both federal governance and the country’s foreign policy, to provide basic security. Internationally, its actions reinforce an image of a state perpetually at odds with its neighbours and a security actor rather than a responsible partner. What is pertinent, though, is the collapse of Pakistan’s attempt to control the regional chessboard through militant leverage. While the Taliban’s Islamic Emirate is asserting its autonomy, India is slowly re-entering the Afghan theatre through quiet diplomacy and development-oriented engagement. Even China and Iran, though cautious, have preferred to deal with Kabul directly rather than through Islamabad’s military mediation. In this changing landscape, India’s restraint looks increasingly calculated. By maintaining engagement and signalling openness to dialogue, New Delhi gains diplomatic space without entanglement. If Pakistan’s latest strikes were meant to reassert dominance, it is advantage India as Kabul can see through the façade of Islamabad and move further closer to New Delhi.
India is global leader in Artificial Intelligence
New Delhi, Oct 26 (IANS) India remains on the forefront of the drive to ensure that Artificial Intelligence (AI) was transparent, oriented to public good and governed by international regulations. As the Lead Chair of the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI), India organised the Global India AI Summit in Delhi in July 2024 which focused on key pillars of AI eco-system including Computer Capacity, Data Sets, Application Development, Start Up Financing and Safe and
Trustworthy AI.
India will now host the AI Impact Summit in Delhi in February next year where the theme will be ‘the harnessing of AI for addressing real-world challenges’ such as health care, education, agriculture, climate change and governance. Prime Minister Modi has taken a personal interest in promoting advancement of AI -he had foreseen the transformative role of AI for humanity. He has already earned the credit for putting India on the world map of ‘digitisation’. Meanwhile, India has moved ahead with measures to fight misuse of AI on social media for producing deepfakes, videos with synthetic voices and manipulated images and tightened IT Rules
2021 in this regard. On October 21 the Centre released amendments to the Rules and invited public feedback on the same within a fortnight. This is a timely step considering the fact that a perceived unfair government control on social media was known to have evoked strong protests from youth in many areas in India’s neighbourhood. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in its official notice said that ‘with the increasing availability of generative AI tools and the resulting proliferation of synthetically generated information(commonly known as deepfakes) the potential for misuse of such technologies to cause user harm, spread misinformation, manipulate
elections or impersonate individuals, has grown significantly’ and added that it is on ‘recognising these risks and following extensive public discussions and parliamentary discussions’ that MeitY had drawn up the amendments.
The framework of amended rules enjoins on the companies offering AI generation tools to embed permanent visible watermarks or metadata identifiers on all synthetic content prescribing coverage of at least 10 percent of the display area of images and videos. Likewise, audio content must carry identifiers during the first 10 percent of playback duration. The amendments formally set out to define -for the first time- a ‘synthetically generated information’ as content
‘ artificially or algorithmically created, generated, modified or altered using a computer resource in a manner that makes it appear as authentic or true’. Significant social media intermediaries- large platforms designated under the IT Ruleswill be prohibited from enabling users to suppress or remove the identifiers making it harder to disguise the origin of AI generated material. The platform is obligated to ask the users to declare whether uploaded content is synthetically generated before publication and deploy automated detection systems to verify such declarations. The rules, of course, apply only to publically available content and not to private or unpublished material.
Nvidia becomes world’s first $5 trillion company amid the AI boom and strategic tie-ups
Mumbai, Oct 29 (IANS) Nvidia Corp soared past the $5 trillion market capitalisation mark for the first time on Wednesday, as its shares climbed more than 3 per cent at market open, cementing the chipmaker’s position as the biggest beneficiary of the global artificial intelligence (AI) boom.
The latest rally came a day after the stock surged 5 per cent on Tuesday, continuing its upward momentum driven by relentless demand for AI processors and optimism over new business prospects.
Investor sentiment received a
further boost following comments from US President Donald Trump, who said he would meet Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to discuss the company’s Blackwell AI processors ahead of a planned meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The remarks raised expectations of a possible easing of restrictions on Nvidia’s chip sales to China, one of the company’s largest potential markets.
The milestone underscores Nvidia’s meteoric rise as the driving force behind the AI revolution, with its advanced GPUs powering everything from data centres and autonomous vehicles to cutting-edge AI models.
The Silicon Valley chipmaker crossed the historic milestone just four months after breaching the $4 trillion mark, buoyed
by record demand for its AI processors and a string of highprofile partnerships.
Earlier, adding to investor optimism, CEO Huang revealed $500 billion worth of new chip orders, highlighting Nvidia’s growing footprint in enterprise and government AI applications. The company also announced major collaborations — including a partnership with Uber to develop robotaxis, a $1 billion investment in Nokia for 6G technology, and a $100 billion commitment to OpenAI to establish new AI data centres capable of powering the next generation of ChatGPT.
In another landmark deal, Nvidia is working with the US Department of Energy to build seven AI supercomputers, further cementing its leadership in highperformance computing.
AI-171 crash: Preliminary report finds no fault in Air India’s operations, says CEO Campbell Wilson
New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) Air India’s managing director and chief executive officer (MD&CEO) Campbell Wilson has said that the preliminary investigation report by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on the AI-171 crash found no fault with the airline’s operations or practices.
Speaking at the Aviation India 2025 summit, Wilson said the July report concluded there was “nothing wrong” with Air
India’s procedures or aircraft maintenance that required any changes.
However, he added that the airline continues to introspect and improve its systems. “Anything that happens in the industry, whether that’s us or others, is a cause for introspection. It’s a cause for reviewing practices,” Wilson said.
“The interim report indicated that there was nothing wrong with aircraft engines or practices that required changing. But, of course, we're always looking at how we can keep improving, keep getting better, and keep learning,” he added.
The comments came in the backdrop of the tragic Air India Flight AI-171 crash on June 12.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, flying from Ahmedabad to London, crashed into a college building
shortly after takeoff, killing 241 people on board and leaving only one survivor.
“This is really the first public engagement that we’ve done in India since that tragic day,” Wilson said during the panel discussion.
“It was absolutely devastating for the people involved, for the families of those involved, for the company, and for our staff,” he added.
The AAIB’s preliminary report, released on July 12, revealed that fuel supply to both engines was cut off shortly after takeoff.
The two fuel control switches were moved to the “cutoff” position in quick succession.
Although the switches were turned back on about 10 seconds later, the engines had already flamed out, leading to the crash.

Messi
mess continues: Indian fans left waiting as Argentina cancels November visit to Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 25 (IANS) The Messi conundrum surrounding Argentina’s muchhyped visit to India has taken a fresh twist, with sponsors confirming that ace footballer Lionel Messi and his team will not be coming to Kerala in November. The clarification came soon after
the Argentina Football Association (AFA) announced that the national team would play only in Angola next month.
The confirmation has poured cold water on weeks of excitement in India with fans eagerly awaiting the football G.O.A.T's arrival in the country and both the Kerala government and private sponsors announcing a highprofile friendly match in Kochi on November 17.
According to reports in the Argentine media, AFA officials attributed the cancellation to Kerala’s “lack of readiness” and delays in completing logistical arrangements within the agreed timeline.
While organisers have now suggested that the visit may be rescheduled to March 2026, the latest development has once again raised questions about planning, coordination and communication
between the stakeholders.
A political controversy has also erupted, with the Congress leadership accusing the state government of prematurely announcing the event without formal confirmation from the AFA.
The episode underscores a recurring challenge in international sports engagements — balancing political optics with procedural clarity.
For Indian fans, the setback is particularly disappointing, given the massive local fan base for Argentina and Messi in Kerala and in the country.
This would have been Messi’s first match in India since 2011, when he captained Argentina against Venezuela at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium, a landmark game that marked his debut as national captain.
2027 World Cup will be his final go at
the
cherry on the cake: ABD on Kohli’s 50-over career
New Delhi, Oct 26 (IANS) South African batting legend AB de Villiers believes that while Virat Kohli still has several strong years of cricket left in him, the 2027 World Cup will likely be the “cherry on the cake” - a fitting finale to his illustrious ODI career.
De Villiers has called on fans to celebrate Kohli and support him as he seeks balance in life during the latter stages of his career. Kohli endured a slow start in
the Australia series, struggling in the first two matches, but rediscovered his form at the perfect moment in the third ODI, scoring a composed 74 off 81 balls to guide India to a convincing nine-wicket victory.
Despite his recent heroics, Kohli faced heavy criticism earlier in the series, with some questioning his ability to remain a key figure heading into the 2027 World Cup.
Addressing the discussion on his YouTube channel, De Villiers praised his long-time friend, saying that Kohli has changed the game forever and deserves unwavering support, regardless of how he chooses to shape the remainder of his illustrious career.
"I want to remind you guys that's the kind of player you want to celebrate. Allow him to find his balance in life towards the backend of his career. Just celebrate him. He has changed the game forever. He deserves a bit of
a 'thank', and hopefully you play for another five years; if you don't, we are right behind you," said De Villiers.
De Villiers believes that the 2027 World Cup will likely serve as the final chapter in Virat Kohli’s illustrious career - the “cherry on the cake” of an extraordinary journey. The former South African captain expressed confidence that Kohli still has up to five more years of top-level cricket left in him, but suggested that the 2027 edition of the tournament could mark his farewell from the international stage.
"In my opinion, the 2027 World Cup will be his final go at the cherry on the cake on a finish to his career. The IPL is a different story. We might see him go for three or four or maybe even five years. It does not take a lot out of you, even if it is a very intense tournament. You can prepare for those two to three months, but a World Cup is a four-year cycle.

Apple’s first foldable iPhone in late 2026 set to redefine experiences
New Delhi, Oct 25 (IANS) Apple’s foldable, expected around late 2026, could redefine consumer expectations and push foldables into a new mainstream adoption phase, according to a new report. The biggest structural shift is expected in late 2026, when Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to debut.
According to the Counterpoint Research report, Apple’s entry would instantly expand consumer awareness and accelerate replacement demand across highincome segments.
Given Apple’s ecosystem
influence, its launch year could dramatically reshape brand dynamics, lifting total market volumes.
The report predicts the US foldable smartphone market to grow 68 per cent (on-year) in 2025, as it enters a period of solid growth after several years of experimentation.
The growth is being driven by broader form factor adoption, improved durability of foldable designs and more diversified portfolios from multiple brands.
This year, portfolio expansion and ecosystem readiness are defining the market.
Samsung is set to maintain its leadership with the refreshed Galaxy Z Fold and Flip lineup, having added an FE variant to broaden accessibility, while also preparing to unveil its longawaited tri-fold device later in the
year. Meanwhile, Motorola is rapidly scaling its Razr series through wider carrier partnerships in the prepaid market, narrowing the share gap with Samsung faster than in prior cycles.
According to the report, Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold, launched in October 2025, sits between Samsung’s premium offerings and Motorola’s lifestyle-driven designs, testing how effectively the brand can turn its AI-first Android experiences into tangible hardware differentiation.
Liz Lee, Associate Director at Counterpoint Research said that while Samsung continues to lead in maturity and ecosystem strength in 2025, Motorola’s rapid expansion in the clamshell segment and Google’s AIdriven approach are reshaping competition.

Some anti-allergy drugs may raise dementia risk in elderly: Study
New Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS) Some antihistamines -- anti-allergy drugs -- have the potential to raise dementia risk in elderly, claimed a new study on Wednesday.
Dementias are estimated to affect more than 57.4 million people worldwide -- a number that is expected to almost triple to 152.8 million cases by 2050.
Early signs include memory loss, difficulty finding words, confusion, and changes in mood and behaviour.
An analysis in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society revealed that older inpatients
admitted by physicians who prescribe higher amounts of first-generation antihistamines face an elevated risk of delirium (a sudden, severe state of confusion) while in the hospital.
“First-generation antihistamines, such as diphenhydramine, are among the leading causes of medication-related harms in older adults, and although these medications are indicated for histamine-related conditions such as hives and anaphylaxis, they may be prescribed inappropriately,” said the researchers from the University of Toronto.
The team analysed data on 328,140 patients aged 65 years and older who were admitted by 755 attending physicians to 17 hospitals in Ontario, Canada, in 2015-2022.
They found that the overall
prevalence of delirium was 34.8 per cent. Patients admitted to physicians who more commonly prescribed first-generation antihistamines had 41 per cent increased odds of experiencing delirium compared with patients admitted to physicians who rarely prescribed first-generation antihistamines.
Delirium, which occurs in up to 50 per cent of hospitalised older adults, has been associated with major adverse outcomes in older adults, including increased mortality and long-term cognitive impairment.
"We hope our study raises awareness among hospitalists that sedating antihistamines can be harmful, and should be prescribed with caution," said corresponding author Aaron M. Drucker, from the University of Toronto and Women's College Hospital.
Delhi air pollution: City doctors report rise in joints pain, flu, respiratory and eye issues
New Delhi, Oct 21 (IANS) With particulate matter (PM) 2.5 concentrations averaging 488 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/ m3) in the national capital post Diwali, city doctors on Tuesday reported a rise in cases of respiratory issues, eye irritation, flu as well as joint pain among others.
According to data from the
Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) in DelhiNCR remained in the 'very poor' category, reaching 400 a day after Diwali festivities.
While the overall AQI stood at 347, several areas recorded levels in the 'severe' category.
“High pollution levels can worsen joint disease. Pollutants such as particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, and ozone trigger inflammation and oxidative stress in the body, which can aggravate pain, stiffness, and fatigue in people with arthritis,” Uma Kumar, Head of the Department of Rheumatology, AIIMS, New
Study shows eye scans may provide clues to ageing, heart disease risk
New Delhi, Oct 25 (IANS) Canadian researchers have found that scanning the tiny blood vessels in the eyes may help predict a person's risk of developing heart disease and how fast they're biologically ageing.
The study, published in the journal Science Advances, suggests that retinal scans could one day serve as a noninvasive window into the body's overall vascular health and biological ageing status, offering new opportunities for early detection and intervention.
"By connecting retinal scans, genetics, and blood biomarkers, we have uncovered molecular pathways that help explain how aging affects the vascular system," said Marie Pigeyre, Associate Professor at McMaster University’s Department of Medicine in Canada.
"The eye provides a unique, noninvasive view into the body's
circulatory system. Changes in the retinal blood vessels often mirror changes occurring throughout the body's small vessels," added Pigeyre.
To conduct the study, the team combined retinal scans, genetic data, and blood sample analyses from over 74,000 participants.
People with simpler, less branched blood vessels were found to be at increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and showed signs of biological ageing, such as higher inflammation and shorter lifespan.
Currently, assessing age-related diseases like heart disease, stroke, and dementia requires multiple tests. The hope is that retinal scans alone could eventually be used as a quick, accessible way to assess ageing and cardiovascular risk. However, more research is needed.
The team also reviewed blood biomarkers and genetic data and identified potential biological causes behind changes in the eye's blood vessels. This helped them identify specific proteins that may drive ageing and disease -- MMP12 and IgG-Fc receptor IIb.
Yoga Guru backs PM Modi’s Diwali message prioritising health,
cleanliness
Saharanpur (UP), Oct 22 (IANS) Renowned Padma Shri awardee and Yoga Guru Bharat Bhushan on Wednesday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Diwali message to the nation, which emphasised the importance of health, cleanliness, and a balanced lifestyle.
Bhushan praised the Prime Minister’s call for reducing oil intake, embracing Yoga, and making health a national priority.
Delhi, told IANS.
The expert urged arthritis patients to avoid outdoor activities, wear an N95 mask, and use air purifiers with good indoor ventilation to prevent flare-ups during high pollution days.
The high pollution levels are exacerbating breathing and other respiratory issues among people, doctors reported.
They noted that toxic gases and chemical particles currently present in the air are causing problems like coughs, colds, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, insomnia, and eye irritation.
PM Modi, in his Diwali letter to the nation, urged citizens to take better care of their health, reduce oil consumption in food by 10 per cent, and integrate Yoga into their daily lives. His message was widely seen as a reminder to bring mindful habits into the festive season.
Reacting to it, Bharat Bhushan told IANS, “The Prime Minister is himself an excellent practitioner of Yoga. It is natural that his solutions to national problems often reflect yogic values. Yoga is a holistic solution—not just for physical health, but also for mental peace, emotional balance, and spiritual discipline.”
He further added, “From the very beginning, Yoga teaches us the core principles of nonviolence, truth, celibacy, non-
possessiveness, and discipline. These are not just philosophical ideas; they are practical life tools. Whether someone is dealing with a physical ailment or a psychological issue, Yoga offers a structured path to recovery.”
Bhushan went on to add that PM Modi’s guidance holds value for all segments of society, including those facing social unrest or ideological extremism.
“Even the youth involved in Naxalism can find peace and purpose through Yoga. It connects the individual to a higher consciousness and detaches them from negativity.” Addressing the Prime Minister’s appeal to reduce oil consumption, Bhushan pointed out the increasing health risks associated with poor dietary habits. “Our modern lifestyle is marked by excessive comfort and decreasing physical activity. We are paying the price in the form of obesity, heart disease, and mental stress. These are directly linked to unhealthy eating and lack of movement," he told IANS. Clarifying PM Modi’s message, he said, “The PM is not targeting any specific oil, whether it’s mustard, sesame, or any other. His message is about reducing the overall fat intake. By doing so, we can enhance our body’s efficiency, boost fitness, and reduce the burden on our internal organs. In essence, it’s about creating awareness and making smarter choices.”

Summer nail care secrets
Hydration is Key
Combat the drying effects of summer heat by regularly applying moisturising lotion or oil to your nails and cuticles. This simple step will help maintain their strength and flexibility, reducing the risk of breakage.
Summeris all about fun in the sun, beach outings, and showing off those fabulous nails! With the sunny season upon us, it's essential to step up our nail care game to keep our nails looking fresh and vibrant.
Experts in nail care from Tip and Toe Salon share with IANSlife
Protect from the Sun
Protect your nails from the sun's harmful UV rays, just as you would protect your skin. Consider using a nail polish with UV protection or applying a clear topcoat containing SPF. When engaging in outdoor activities, wearing gloves can also provide an additional layer of protection against sun damage.
Chase the sun, not the damage: Smart skin care choices for summer
As the days grow longer and the sun shines brighter, many of us eagerly embrace the warmth of summer. However, the need for diligent skin care comes with the joys of outdoor activities and beach vacations.
Before diving into skin care tips, it's essential to understand the damaging effects of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. Prolonged exposure to UV radiation can lead to many skin concerns, including sunburn and premature ageing.
"One of the most effective ways to shield your skin from sun damage is sunscreen. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) rating to ensure comprehensive protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Apply sunscreen generously to all exposed areas of skin, including your face, neck, and ears, and remember to reapply every two hours, especially if you're swimming or sweating," says Mansi Sharma, founder of The Honest Tree by Boddess.
Hydration is key. Summer heat can take a toll on your skin, leading to dehydration and a loss of moisture. Mansi recommends
the importance of maintaining healthy and beautiful nails, especially during the summer months. Don't let the sun and heat take a toll on your nail health; follow these expertrecommended tips to keep your nails looking fabulous.
Use the Right Tools
Using the right tools is crucial for maintaining nail health. Avoid metal cuticle pushers, as they can cause damage and increase infection risks. Instead, opt for wooden or rubber cuticle pushers. Additionally, always use sharp, clean nail clippers and files to prevent nail splitting and peeling.
to combat the heat by staying hydrated from the inside out. She says, "Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated and plump. Additionally, incorporate hydrating skincare products into your routine, such as lightweight moisturizers and serums formulated with hyaluronic acid or glycerin."
While sunscreen provides crucial protection, it's not the only line of defence against the sun's rays. "Consider covering up with lightweight, breathable clothing, hats, and sunglasses to provide additional protection for your skin and eyes. Opt for tightly woven fabrics and dark colours for optimal sun protection," adds Mansi. "When possible, seek shade during the sun's peak hours, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. This is when UV radiation is at its strongest, increasing the risk of sunburn and skin damage. Take breaks from direct sunlight by relaxing under a beach umbrella or finding shelter in a shaded area."
The founder of The Honest Tree by Boddess also suggests that while selecting skincare products for summer, opt for formulations that cater to the specific needs of sun-exposed skin. Mansi says, "Look for products enriched with antioxidants like vitamins C and E, which help neutralize free radicals generated by UV exposure. Incorporating a gentle exfoliant into your routine can also help slough off dead skin cells, revealing a fresh, radiant complexion."

Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone thinks her “Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness” co-star Willem Dafoe is an alien.
Asked on the Late Show which celebrity she thinks is most likely to be an alien secretly posing as a human, Stone, who plays a woman kidnapped by two men who suspect she is an extra-terrestrial in new movie “Bugonia”, said: “Willem Dafoe. Hundred percent.”
To which, host Stephen Colbert said: "You did not have to think about that very long.”
Stone said Dafoe was an obvious choice, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
She said: “It’s so simple. I mean, don’t you — of course. If it was like, Willem Dafoe’s actually an alien everyone would be like, ‘Yeah! Obviously. And a great one!’ Like, if they’re all like Willem, bring ‘em on! Land upon Earth, please!”
Colbert replied: “He’s an alien in a very well-fitted man suit."
Stone added: "My favourite alien.”
The actress shaved her head for her role in Bugonia and though she wore wigs when out and about in her downtime, she sabotaged her own attempts not to draw attention to her hairpiece.
She said: “I’m so unsubtle and just generally stupid that I was like… the wig looked good, but the whole night I was like, ‘Can you tell it’s a wig?' To everyone! And they were like, ‘We’re pretty sure she’s wearing a wig, since she moved it around a lot.’”
The actress said that she "misses" her bald look.
She said: "It felt so good. Taking a shower with a shaved head is unbelievable. And every time you’re thinking, you really run your hand over your head. I miss it!”
Amitabh Bachchan reflects on changing times and fading memories
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan took out a moment to reflect on how time transforms people, their habits to culture and the world.
Taking to his blog, the thespian wrote: “Times change the World changes .. attitudes, habits change , culture changes .. people change .. they that were then, are not now .. and soon they that are 'now' shall in time be in reference of the 'then' (sic).”
The icon talked about how there’s no point dwelling on the past and asked to treasure old memories.
“Lamentations from the ‘then’ keep echoing in the times of now… they shall simply remain a memory. Let them be in memory. Lamenting upon it shall be an exertive waste upon your system, attuned to ‘then’. Respect and enjoy it — they were such a delight ‘then’ (sic),” he wrote.
Big B went on to revisit the wisdom of his father-legendary poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, and shared some verses.
He then talked about the enduring relevance of the lines and said even after so many years, the words still echo with truth.
