The cover story of this issue has something special to share with you. We organised the first IBR convocation programme at our corporate office to honour some of our brilliant record holders, who were felicitated with a memento and sash. The event is a regular feature now. One interesting story is about a turban-tying event organised by Maharashtrian Ladies Association, Pune, where 403 people participated in the turban-tying drive.

Read inside about a daredevil electric vehicle driven by Bunny Punia, who drove a Mercedes Benz EV from Delhi to Siachen Base Camp at the height of 12,000 feet above sea level. Also read about a mega blood donation camp drive held in Maharashtra, where 3066 volunteers donated blood through 85 camps.

Meanwhile, in Kerala, 2126 devotees of both genders from all over the country as well as overseas assembled together, who walked for more than 3 km holding lighted lamps, chanting the holy hymn Namasankirtan.

One more amazing story is about Artist Ritam Bhatnagar who made a hoarding using 3,02,406 Lego bricks to create a life-size outdoor advertisement for a newly launched SUV.

s part of the 99th Uthratam Janamnakshatra Maholsavam, a procession called the Prakasa Khoshayaathra with lamps in hands was taken out by Atma Bodhodaya Sangham Sree Subhananda Trust of Kerala. A total of 2126 devotees of both genders from all over the country as well as overseas assembled together at 5 pm and walked for more than 3 km from the Mavelikara Puthiyakavu Temple to Sree Subhananda Ashram Cherukole, Mavelikara with lighted lamps and India Book of Records | October 2023

chanting the holy hymn Namasankirtan on August 1, 2023, in a bid to illuminate the path with divine light. The spiritual activity and the resultant record were jointly recognised by the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records.

Millions of people in Kerala and several parts of India consider the Sree Subhananda Ashram Cherukole in Mavelikara as the spiritual home and abode of peace. It has a well-disciplined mass following it and has been attracting more and more people every day. For the convenience of the devotees, more than 46 branch ashrams have been already established at different parts of Kerala and outside, and the noble process continues smoothly and enthusiastically. The Ashram and its branches successfully celebrate many festivals. Over two thousand devotees in saffron attire gathered at the Mavelikara Puthiyakavu Temple and proceeded with the lamps in their hands.

It is believed that among all forms of bhajana (loving service to Sri Krishna), the nine limbs of bhakti are best, for they have the great power to bestow both Krishna-prema

and Krishna. The foremost of these nine types of bhajans, again, is Namasankirtana. One who chants the holy names without making spiritual offenses is sure to gain the wealth of transcendent love. Situated in Puthiyakavu junction, the heart of Mavelikara town, this East-facing temple has Bhadrakali as its main deity.

Sree Subhanada Ashram, the abode of peace and ecstasy, was established in 1918 in a very small thatched shed, by Brahmasree Subhananda Gurudev at Cherukole, Mavelikara in Alleppey District of Kerala. It is the central seat of Atma Bodhodaya Sangham, an Advaitha Vedantha spiritual movement of a very high order, with the mission to attain the status of One Caste, One Religion, and One God to mankind. Later on, the Ashram was renovated with much more facilities, and was inaugurated in 1937 by the Retired Divan of Travancore, Sri VS Subrahmanya Iyyer, the President of Kerala Hindu Mission. The Ashram building was again renovated and reconstructed by Brahmasree Anandaji Gurudev and was inaugurated on May 5, 1971.

According to a devotee, the theosophy of the Atma Bodhodaya Sangham, especially Subhananda Ashram is that, without caste, creed, religion, region or gender anyone can obtain moksha through Namasankeerthanam by strict adherence to Sathya Upadesh. Millions of people have been blessed with salvation at this place of high spiritual energy. Swami Subhananda reached Cherukole, Mavelikara at the age of 36 and started this mission centre. In a caste-ridden society, just like Sree Narayana Guru, he proclaimed that man is one and there cannot be any difference due to caste or community. People belonging to various castes approached him for salvation. He could give peace and security to all who were suffering from distress due to sins, diseases and recurrent attacks of devils. Swami Subhananda had immense sympathy for the poor and afflicted in society and declared himself as their friend and saviour.

The record for being in the Padma Bakasana yoga pose for the longest duration was set by Vijata (41) of Gurugram, Haryana. She held herself in the Padma Bakasana yoga position, popularly known as the Crane Lotus pose, for 2 minutes and 30 seconds on April 13, 2022.

Maximum educational degrees received by an individual The record for receiving the maximum number of educational degrees was set by Dr Ranjit Das (59) of Howrah, West Bengal. He received 23 educational degrees including three Bachelor’s Degrees, one BEd, 13 Master’s Degrees, three Post Graduation Diplomas, one Post Graduation Certification, one MPhil, along with one PhD.

Maximum paintings of Lord Ganesha made using different mediums The record for making the maximum number of paintings of Lord Ganesha using different mediums was set by Rajesh Kumar (54) of Delhi. He made 719 paintings of Lord Ganesha using 71 mediums. These mediums included vegetable colours, kalam ink, charcoal, stone stick painting, pistachio powder, leaf cutting, newspapers, paint, tissue paper, foil, threads, wooden strips, Indian coins and carrom coins (wooden).

Developing a Career Simulator system First Step to Career founder Dr Nitin Tupe (48) of Pune, Maharashtra, was appreciated for developing a Career Simulator system for the First Step to Career App (career counselling centre).

Certified as a Junior Open Water Scuba Diver Aarav Samir Savla of Mumbai, Maharashtra,

was appreciated for being certified as a Junior Open Water Scuba Diver by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) on June 1, 2023 (PADI number 2306AA0312). He completed 7 dives with a total time of 244 minutes (4 hours and 4 minutes) within 3 days at Borneo Divers and Sea Sports, Sabah, Malaysia, at the age of 10 years.

Authoring a book titled ‘Beyond You’ Dimpal Roy (28) of Nalbari, Assam, was appreciated for authoring a book titled ‘Beyond You’ (ISBN: 979-88-89231-26-4) published by Notion Press.

The book consists of 15 topics like Acceptance to Peace, Educate Yourself and The Universe is With You. It gives an insight into how to change one’s habits, behaviour and become a better version of oneself.

The record for covering the maximum distance in a car across South Africa in 24 hours was set by GK Dhinesh Kumar (26) of Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu. He started his expedition by car from Aggeneys (South Africa) on August 18, 2023, at 12.40 pm and reached Albertinia (South Africa) on August 19, 2023, at 12.25 pm, covering a distance of 2154 km in 23 hours and 45 minutes.

Film shot in single take with a single character Nanmadhi Film House Pvt Ltd of Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu, was appreciated for producing a feature film titled Aagaasathin Utharavu (An Order From The Sky), directed by Karthi Radhakrishnan in Tamil language with the theme ‘the relevance of rituals, the veracity of God’. The film was shot in realtime single take with a single character.

Memorising too much at a tender age Kashinath S of Kozhikode, Kerala, was appreciated for recalling the names of 8 professionals, 7 continents, 14 districts of Kerala, 7 neighbouring countries, capitals of 28 Indian states, 5 vegetables; identifying 14 animals, 9 parts of the body, 9 colours, 5 fruits, 12 shapes, 14 Prime Ministers of India and 12 Chief Ministers of Kerala; reading 12 words; and answering 9 questions at the age of 5 years and 3 months.

Playing the maximum number of musical instruments The record for playing the maximum number of musical instruments in 30 minutes was set by Sanidhya Sharma of Gurugram, Haryana. He played 25 musical instruments including Sitar, Drums, Tabla, Pakhawaj, Clap Box, Dholak, Harmonium, Congo, Guitar, Keyboard, Piano, Mouth Organ, Kanjira, Tumbi, Kalimba, Bongo and others in 30 minutes at the age of 15 years, 6 months and 1 day.

Mass training for healthy bones

T

he record for basic life support training to a maximum number of people pan India in a single day was set by the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA). Basic Life Support training was provided to people across 60 cities of India including Indore, Lucknow, and Delhi from 9 am to 5 pm during the Bone & Joint Week from August 1 to August 6, 2023. The training was done to commemorate Bone & Joint Day with the theme ‘Each One, Train One, Save One’. The training activity created a record under the supervision of the India Book of Records (IBR) and the Asia Book of Records (ABR) simultaneously.

According to Dr Saket Jati, Chairman, CSRC, “The mission of the basic life support training activity was to save lives in road accidents; to train drivers, traffic police, students, youths, common people; and create awareness about healthy bones and body. With the rapid advances being made in the field of Orthopaedics in India and abroad, the avenues are open for the rapid growth of our association. Looking at the vast strides taken by our body, there is no doubt that the future is extremely bright. The Indian Orthopaedic Association is one of the largest professional organisations which has more than 10,000 active life members. It is a vibrant organisation that focuses on academics, research, and social networking.”

From the time of its formation in 1955, the Indian Orthopaedic Association has evolved into a strong professional body with many sub-committees and regional committees. It is a constantly growing organisation not only in terms of increasing memberships but also on

all other fronts like fellowships, continuing medical education (CME), orations, and sub-specialty meetings. The annual conference of the organisation - IOACON, is one of the wellorganised and most sought-after meetings conducted in India.

The history, birth, and development of the Indian Orthopaedic Association is very similar to that of the British Orthopaedic Association, probably due to its past association with the United Kingdom. Like Hugh Owen Thomas, who all his life remained a general surgeon, but made history by his contributions to orthopaedics, the late Dr M G Kini is considered the forerunner of Orthopaedic Surgery in India.

The basic life support training programme received an enthusiastic response from the people who attended the training sessions conducted by health experts. People were told about the importance of healthy bones and healthy joints and also the food items good for the human bones. Most of the state capitals were covered under the bone and joint health awareness campaign initiated by the Indian Orthopaedic Association. The activity was such huge and extensive that it set a mega record which received applauds and recognition from the IBR and ABR. It is worth mentioning here that the Indian Orthopaedic Association owes its birth to the young surgeons who trained in the field abroad during or after the Second World War. Dr Mukhopadhaya suggested the idea of forming an association in an informal chat with friends during the annual conference of ASI at Vellore in 1952. A letter mooting this concept was sent out by Dr Mukhopadhaya and Dr K S Grewal. Many practicing Orthopaedic Surgeons met at Agra in 1953 and agreed to form an Orthopaedic Section of ASI. The IOA helps people lead a healthy life with healthy bones.

First EV to reach

Siachen Base Camp

S

iachen Base Camp, 12,000 feet above sea level at Partapur, is a base camp of the 102 Infantry Brigade (Siachen brigade) of the Indian Army which protects 110 km long Actual Ground Position Line with at least 108 forward military outposts and artillery observation posts in the disputed region of Siachen Glacier in Ladakh. It is a 6-hour drive north from Leh via one of the highest vehicle-accessible passes in the world, Khardung La at 17,582 feet. Siachen Base Camp is one of the two bases for the Siachen region. The base has helipads, a memorial for martyrs, medical unit. The record for being the first electric car to reach this point was set by Bunny Punia (40) of Delhi. He drove the Mercedes Benz EQB 350 electric vehicle (EV) from Delhi to Siachen Base Camp on August 30, 2023. The attempt made the record under the India Book of Records.

The expedition was planned to showcase the capability of an electric vehicle in tough driving conditions. The plan was to drive an electric vehicle from Delhi to the northernmost point that is open to civilians. The expedition also showcased the improving EV charging infrastructure in the country plus the high range of the Mercedes-Benz EQB and how it could handle various terrains.

Bunny Punia told the India Book of Records magazine that the road from Delhi to Srinagar has good EV charging on the way, hotels, and food malls. Srinagar onwards the next charging at Kargil and Leh was at the hotel via a normal power plug point. It was extremely slow but overnight charging gave the vehicle ample range.

The route of the expedition included places like Jammu, Srinagar, Kargil, Leh, and Nubra. The road from Delhi to Jammu had smooth four-lane highways. Jammu to Srinagar was a mix of good

roads and bad, which included multiple tunnels (engineering marvels) as well as diversions and no roads. Srinagar to Kargil via Zoji La pass has bad roads but then good till Kargil. Kargil to Leh road is quite smooth excluding the two high-altitude mountain passes of Namika la and Fotu La. Leh to Nubra and Siachen Base Camp has no roads or washed-off roads.

“Passing through four mountain passes was a memorable experience. Plus, the thumbs-up from other road users was a morale booster. There were lot of bad roads after Leh, but the German engineering of EQB did not let us down. We even faced a minus 2-degree temperature at Khardung La pass, which is bad for batteries but we made it. This was my fourth IBR record attempt. I made a few other records too. Being into independent

automobile content creation, I will continue such expeditions,” said Punia.

In one of the social media posts, Mercedes-Benz wrote: “By embarking on an epic journey from Leh to the Siachen Base Camp in northern Ladakh, we redefined the intersection of adventure and sustainability, with the Mercedes-Benz EQB 350.”

oa, anciently known as Gomantak, a region sanctified and established by the existence of Go-mata, was popular for its great temples, Vedic schools, seashores radiating the chants of Vedic mantra, classical music, Sanskrit hymns with the blessings and grace of the divine saints and enlightened yogis in its golden era. In Goa, Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth is a spiritual centre, headed by Padmashri Awardee, Sadguru Brahmeshanand Acharya Swamiji. He set a record for changing Janeu (sacred thread) by the maximum number of people at

a single place. The feat was recognized by the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records.

Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth has been serving mankind from time immemorial irrespective of gender, caste, creed, or religion. It has been a revolutionary spiritual journey all throughout. Based on the trio principle of ‘Dev, Desh, Dharma’ (God, Nation, and Dharma), spirituality has been the focal point of the divine service. Society has reaped the benefits of knowledge be it Sanskrit, Vedas, Astrology, Vaastu, etc.

The Divine Gurupeeth has touched the lives of people by instilling virtue and values. The disciples of the Gurupeeth have experienced the divinity with the blessings and have uplifted their lives in the spiritual realm.

Shubhakshan Naik, associated with the event, told the India Book of Records magazine that Shravani – a sacred threadchanging ceremony, the cultural heritage of Sanatan Dharma has been organised with pride, by Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth under the divine guidance of Pujya Swamiji with thousands of Hindus changing the sacred thread - Yadnyopavit.

It is one of the biggest Hindu gatherings in Goa. Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth with an incessant divine Sadguru lineage has been hosting Shravani for so many decades from the past revered Peethadhiswar of the Peeth at the Gurusthan (Ashram).

In ceremonies such as weddings and other festive, cultural, and religious celebrations, it is common to wear a pheta.

In many areas, it is customary to offer male dignitaries a traditional welcome by offering them a pheta to wear.

Maharashtrian turbans are not only a symbol of tradition but also a representation of the unity and diversity of the state. To celebrate and showcase the rich cultural heritage of Maharashtra, the Maharashtrian Ladies Association (MLA) decided to bring people from all walks of life together to participate in a unique event of turban-tying.

This is why hoardings often feature bright colours and large fonts, as they want to stand out from everything else. The record for the largest hoarding made using Lego bricks was set by Hyundai Motor India Limited, which

Artist Ritam Bhatnagar created this unique hoarding using 3,02,406 Lego bricks to create a life-size outdoor advertisement for the newly launched Hyundai Exter SUV. He started building the hoarding on August 10, 2023, and completed it on August 17, 2023, at DLF Cyber Hub Gurugram, Haryana. The hoarding measured 18 feet in height and 22 feet in width and total visual size of 20 ft x 10 ft. This attempt was unique in the aspect of

Artist Ritam Bhatnagar told the India Book of Records magazine, “I have been playing with Lego since I was three years old, and I always wanted to do something really big and remarkable with the bricks. With Hyundai Motor India Ltd, I got the opportunity to think differently and I suggested to them that ‘why not create an entire hoarding made of Lego bricks.’

Everyone was excited with the initial thought and we just jumped into making it happen.”

“It took me almost 400 hours to design the hoarding on multiple Lego software. The final output file was too heavy to render, therefore we had to rent powerful machines just to be able to make the software work. The instructions for the hoarding ran in 600 pages. When in execution mode, it took a team of 25 people with a total time of 1200 combined hours to make the Lego part of it. To install the entire hoarding took us another 25 hours in scorching heat. I had never created something at this scale. Earlier, I had done smaller but unique creations for brands like Red Bull. But this was a feat in itself,” said Ritam.

To make the hoarding 20 feet wide and 10 feet high, the entire area was divided into 288 blocks of 10 inches each.

The team designed individual blocks with 1024 bricks and took them through a 3-step quick check to avoid even a single mistake. Once all the blocks were made, the setup was transported all the way from Mumbai to Delhi and pasted on the billboard. IBR adjudicator Vivek verified the claim and handed over the certificates and the medals to the Hyundai India officials, including Virat Khullar, Bhartendu Singh, Nishant Gupta, and Priyank Bhardwaj.

olonel Rahul Sethi, a former officer from the Indian Army who took voluntary retirement after 21 years of active service, decided to take The Tricolor Yatra to Khardung La - the highest motorable pass in India at 5,359 meters in the Ladakh region of the mighty Himalayas. His aim was to enhance awareness and promote the national flag and the symbol of nationalism. He wanted to make the populace aware of the sanctity of words - strength, valour (Saffron), truth and faith (White) and growth, fertility and auspiciousness (Green) -- associated with our national flag. He invited people from

The Tricolor Yatra was Col Sethi’s initiative, who executed the first expedition sponsored by his startup company ‘The Fauji Salt & Spices’, along with International Youth Forum and Throttle Shrottle Moto Café. The record was for the maximum number of riders participating in an expedition to Khardung La, wherein a total of 136 riders from all over the country, including the Indian Defence Forces, started on August 15, 2023, at 8.30 am from Leh, reaching Khardung La Pass and returned back to Leh the same day at 4.30 pm. The riders were sent up in staggered groups to help in traffic management. The attempt was dedicated to the 76th Independence Day. Col Sethi (retired) told the India Book of Records magazine that preparations for the expedition commenced four months before the actual event. The riders’ applications were solicited and 100 civilian riders were selected pan-India representing different states, different religions, and varied cultural and social

backgrounds alongside soldiers to make it a comprehensive and fulfilling experience. All permits, compliances, documentation, and driving proficiency were checked, which resulted in smooth conduct with no incident and accidents during the event. The core team was stationed in Leh a week before the attempt to coordinate permits, permissions, medical, and mechanical support during the event.

The participants, in the age group of 18 to 73 years, were from 19 states and 4 UTs, representing all major religions and with varied social backgrounds. Avoiding the VIP culture, local youth and residents were invited to be part of the flag-off and cultural show. Mohit Vats, the IBR adjudicator, verified the claim and announced the record. The event was self-financed and all the participants paid for their expenses. It was the maiden event, which will be followed by more such ventures in the coming days. The Tricolor Yatra is the brand that undertook this expedition and the trademark for the same has been applied for under the name of Col Rahul Sethi. It has no connection with the existing Tiranga Yatra.

elebrating the spirit of 75 years of independence of India was at the core of the NCC Bicycle Rally. The idea of setting the record for the NCC Bicycle Rally emerged from a collaborative effort between the Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, and the National Cadet Corps (NCC). They aimed to create a unique and patriotic event to showcase the commitment of NCC cadets to the nation. The creativity worked and the event created a new record for the institute from the house of the India Book of Records (IBR).

Dr Brij Kishore Prasad, Associate Professor, Department of Health Sciences, Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), Gwalior, said that extensive planning and coordination were undertaken to set the record. This included the selection of 75 NCC cadets and also supporting staff and volunteers, identifying 75 different locations in the city for waving the national flag, arranging for bicycles, sticks, National flags, ropes, wires, banners, vehicles, mobile devices, etc. and ensuring that the logistics for the event ran smoothly. To ensure

a fool-proof plan, three trials were conducted, and Google Meet, Gio tagging photos, etc. were also done.

“As previously we had made a record in the field of hockey, hence we were highly motivated and enthusiastic about this time too. The idea was to bring a large number of students hence we chose the cycle rally so that mass participation can be made possible. I was instrumental in setting another record in hockey juggling in the past, where 742 players successfully kept a hockey ball in the air for 30 seconds. That attempt was carried out at the LNIPE Hockey Stadium in Gwalior,” said Dr Prasad, who is also the Associate NCC Officer at LNIPE, Gwalior.

Digital Tiranga atop a Mall

uLu Mall in Bengaluru, Karnataka, made it to the India Book of Records (IBR) for conducting the largest lit-up tricolour flag display. It was a visual treat for the thousands of shoppers who thronged Lulu Mall in Bengaluru as part of the Independence Day celebrations. The digital tiranga in its largest form was displayed on the main wall of Lulu Mall, covering an area of 305 feet by 70 feet. The Ashoka Chakra spinned 360 degrees and was displayed with the help of more than 200 lights. This was made possible with advanced techniques, and it featured a tricolour gradient background stock illustration with amazing graphics. The visual grandeur found its glorious place in the India Book of Records.

Manu Sankar Nair from the LuLu Mall Bengaluru told the India Book of Records magazine that the digital tricolour flag was displayed horizontally in a rectangular shape, with the lit-up Ashoka Chakra on the white band having 24 equally spaced mobile spokes. This was for the first time in the history of a mall in the country that such a large digital flag display had been held. This digital flag was displayed from August 12 to August 15, 2023 at the LuLu Mall. Harish R, the adjudicator from the India Book of Records verified the claim and felicitated the events tem of the mall with a certificate and a medal for setting the national record.

Internships on industry skills

s per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, internship is mandatory for all students. However, it is difficult to provide physical internships to all students, because many institutions are in rural or interior areas, where students are not having much access to industries for doing internships. These internships are given on niche skills like cybersecurity, robotic process automation (RPA), process mining, networking, data analytics, structural design, mobile application development, etc. All these internships are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and supported by corporates.

AICTE, a regulatory body of the Ministry of Education, Govt of India, approves all technical institutions across India. AICTE signed an MoU with EduSkills Foundation in November 2021 to provide 1 million virtual internships by 2025, which is a mission

announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Within two years, 1,82,262 students successfully completed AICTE-EduSkills virtual internships on multiple niche industry skills supported by nine corporates. The uniqueness was that over 40% of these interns were female students, and 45% came from economically weaker sections. As the virtual internship programme got an overwhelming response, EduSkills decided to apply for the record, which got approved by the India Book of Records. The internships were done between August 25, 2021, and August 25, 2023, and they all were issued certificates during this period.

Eternal Flame of Chaliha Temple T

he Chaliha Sahib celebration at Jhulelal temple marks the attendance of millions of Sindhis from across the world.

It is celebrated between July and August every year. During the Chaliha festival, most people keep a 40-day fast, some fast only on the first and last day of Chaliha, while others fast for the first nine days or for 21 days. Lakhs of devotees participated in the Matki programme on the last of the 40-day Chaliha Sahib festival held at Jhulelal temple, Ulhasnagar, Maharashtra. Over 7 lakh Sindhis reside in Ulhasnagar, who had migrated here from Pakistan during the partition.

The Pujya Chaliha Sahib Mandir set a record of unextinguished flame glowing for the longest duration in a temple. The eternal Jyot, lit around 1897 AD in Pakistan and brought to India during the India-Pak partition in 1947, has been continuously glowing for 126 years. The feat has been registered in the prestigious India Book of Records (IBR). The adjudicator from the IBR, Dushyant Chaturvedi, verified the claim and handed over the record certificate and a medal to the organisers of the event.

Cheti Chand is a festival that marks the beginning of the Sindhi New Year. It is celebrated when the new moon (Chand) becomes visible, usually on the first or second day of the Chaitra (Cheth) month. This corresponds to late March or early April. Cheti Chand is also known as the Sindhi New Year and Jhulelal Jayanti. It is celebrated by all Sindhi communities. During Cheti Chand, people worship near water bodies, such as rivers, lakes, and ponds. They light Jyot Jagan, a diya made of wheat flour with five wicks. They also take Behrana Sahib, an offering consisting of an oil diya, cardamom, sugar, fruits, and Akho.

They immerse Behrana Sahib in the water. Cheti Chand, Gudi Padwa and Ugadi celebrations happen at the same time.

drenal myelolipoma, a tumour of fat is predominantly composed of mature adipose tissue and intermixed myeloid tissue. Rarely myelolipomas are encountered outside the adrenal glands and are termed as extra-adrenal myelolipoma. Clinically, they may be asymptomatic or present with abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting. On CT scan, they appear as well-circumscribed, hypodense masses. A team of doctors from the Department of Urology and Kidney Transplant of Narayana Medical College and Superspeciality Hospital (NMC), Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, performed an unusual surgery creating a record under the prestigious India Book of Records (IBR) and the Asia Book of Records (ABR) simultaneously. The team was led by Prof (Dr) Veda Murthy Reddy Pogula, Head of the Department of Urology, NMC, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh.

Dr Reddy and his team performed the critical surgery for the Adrenal gland as part of the largest adrenal myelolipoma measuring 13 cm, removed by laparoscopy On October 4, 2021.

The case study was published in a scientific journal named Annals of Urologic Oncology on December 31, 2021. The medical team engaged in the operation included Dr Kashinath Vasant Thakare (Senior Resident in Urology), Dr Ershad Hussain Galeti (Senior Resident in Urology), Dr Venkatesh Velivela (Senior Resident in Urology), and Dr Rahul Nekanti (Senior Resident in Urology).

Prof (Dr) Veda Murthy Reddy Pogula, Head of the Department of Urology, NMC, Nellore, told the India Book of Records magazine, “This was supposed to be a challenging surgery to be done laparoscopically due to its huge size attached to various delicate and important organs into the abdomen. This was a tricky situation as there was a lack of space to operate in the abdomen. It was done on a 46-year-old male patient, who went home with full health after such critical surgery without any complications. By bringing this surgery into the limelight we want to encourage young doctors to consider minimal invasive procedures in such critical diseases and meanwhile provide safe and

effective treatment to patients. This will also bring laurel to all doctors in the medical field of the world.”

Narayana Medical College and Superspeciality Hospital (NMC), Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, is a tertiary care superspeciality hospital in the field of Urology, dealing routinely with diseases related to the Kidney and Urinary system. NMC is recognised by NTR University of Health Sciences, Nellore. The new record was registered for the removal of the largest adrenal myelolipoma treated with laparoscopic surgery. The extraordinary surgery brought laurels to the hospital, making the doctor’s name enter into the prestigious record books of IBR and ABR. It is worth mentioning that the size of adrenal myelolipomas is variable and can range from a few millimeters to greater than 10 cm. These are called giant adrenal myelolipomas. Extra-adrenal sites for myelolipomas include the retroperitoneum, thorax, and pelvis. Usually unilateral however they can also involve both adrenals. On histopathologic examination, myelolipomas are predominantly composed of fatty areas.

These fatty elements and hematopoietic areas may be clearly separated, or they are often intermixed. Tissue analysis often reveals a variable amalgamation of myeloid and erythroid cells, and occasionally lymphocytes.

Mega blood donation camps T

he greatest gift that an individual can give another person is the gift of blood. There is a perpetual shortage of blood in our country. In normal terms, one blood donation can save up to three lives. The fact that blood can be stored and used when required, as the red cells, the plasma, or the platelets, has been a big help. Besides the advantage to the recipient, blood donation is beneficial for the donors also. Firstly, a lot many times, since a person undergoes routine vital check-ups prior to donation, hypertension can be identified in donors who have previously never checked their blood pressure. Also, since the donors’ blood is screened for haemoglobin and STDs, underlying

anaemia and certain blood infections can also be diagnosed in the donor incidentally.

The above-mentioned benefits of blood donation were told to the donors and general public at the mass blood donation camps held at multiple locations in Maharashtra. The camps saw voluntary donations by a total of 3066 donors in the state. The activity was recognised by the India Book of Records (IBR).

It was told at one of these camps that there are patients who thrive on repeated blood transfusions like thalassemia, sickle cell anaemia, cancer, etc. Some other patients require blood transfusions due to some medical conditions like excessive bleeding due to trauma, childbirth, or dengue with low platelet counts. The availability of safe and sufficient blood is necessary for their health. Transmission of infectious diseases to patients through blood transfusion adds to their problems. It is important that people donate blood responsibly and cooperate with blood centres to select the right donor. Blood centres have the responsibility to follow the best blood screening practices to provide the safest blood possible.

These camps were held to mark the birthday of Sandeep Shelke, who is president of the Rajarshi Shahu Organisation in Buldhana. Gospel songs on the keyboard

G

ospel songs, a type of Christian music, originated in the early 17th century in Scotland. They are characterized by strong vocals, harmony, and Christian lyrics. Gospel songs are often written with a refrain and focus on themes such as ‘getting saved’ and celebrating freedom in Christ. A school-going boy from Churachandpur in Manipur has set a new record for playing and singing the maximum number of gospel songs simultaneously on a keyboard.

The record holder, Benhavi Gangte (born on December 29, 2014) played and sang 78 gospel songs in 6 languages, including English, Gangte, Kuki, Paite, Hindi, and Mizo, for 6 hours and 21 seconds nonstop at the age of 8 years, 7 months and 3 days, on August 1, 2023. The boy has received recognition from the India Book of Records (IBR).

Benhavi is the second son of Gouchungnung, a lay preacher.

The boy has got a natural talent of memorising songs. He has been presenting songs and playing music in rehab centers and school hostels from the age of 4 years. He has got informal training from his elder brother and mother so far. However, the child has now joined a professional music class.

The songs used in the record-setting attempt are all written by his mother, who is a singer herself. The boy now plans to set more records in this line.

However, his ultimate goal is to be a professor in some music college, so that he could benefit thousands of students through his music and the message of peace and forgiveness.

It is worth mentioning here that gospel music has its roots in the religious revivals of the 19th century. It has influenced and been influenced by popular music traditions.

Gospel music has deeply influenced American popular culture from its eighteenth-century origins to the present day. Some of the most famous contemporary gospel songs, including ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘Rock of Ages’, began as hymnal songs in the Anglican church.

Churachandpur District, from where Benhavi Gangte comes from, is one of the 16 districts of Manipur populated mainly

by Kuki-Zomi people. The name honours former Maharaja Churachand Singh of Manipur. The district headquarters is located in the town of Churachandpur, which is also locally known by the name Lamka. It acquired the name ‘Churachandpur subdivision’ based on its headquarters at Songpi, which was also called ‘Churachandpur’. After the independence of India, it remained one of the eight subdivisions of Manipur. A ‘New Churachandpur’ town was built at the present location to serve as its headquarters. In 1969, the subdivision was upgraded to a district, initially called ‘Manipur South’ and later Churachandpur District.

Adopt good salt habits

P

utting more salt in the curry can be harmful, especially for hypertensive patients or people suffering from high blood pressure. One way to cut back is to skip the table salt. However, most of the sodium in modern diets comes from packaged and processed foods. Eating these foods less often can help reduce sodium intake, lower blood pressure, and prevent high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, from developing in the first place.

Physicians recommend not more than 2300 mg of salt intake in a day and an ideal limit of not more than 1500 mg per day for most adults, especially for those with high blood pressure. Even cutting back by 1000 mg a day can improve blood pressure and

heart health. Sodium chloride or table salt is approximately 40 percent sodium. It’s important to understand just how much sodium is in salt so that one can take measures to control the salt intake. Taking control of sodium means checking labels and reducing preservatives. Other foods to be aware of include processed foods such as bread, pizza, soups, and savory snacks.

Some natural foods which come with higher-than-average sodium content are cheese and poultry products.

General physicians across the country were approached by Alkem Laboratories to take the pledge online and support the cause of reducing high blood pressure among patients and the general masses. The one-month awareness drive was focused on creating awareness around the salt consumption patterns of hypertensive patients. Hypertension is a long-term medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently elevated.

Blood pressure is expressed by two measurements, the systolic and diastolic pressures, which are the maximum and minimum pressures, respectively. High blood pressure is present if the resting blood pressure is persistently at or above 130/80 or 140/90 mmHg. Hypertension is diagnosed on the basis of persistently high resting blood pressure. The doctors recommend at least three resting measurements on at least two separate healthcare visits.

orld Hindi Secretariat, Mauritius, the biggest centre of Hindi Promotion in the world, is jointly run by the Government of India and Government of Mauritius. This centre has importance of perpetual heritage. An Indian author, Suresh Kumar Shrichandani (60) of Ajmer, Rajasthan, got his 102 books released at the auditorium of World Hindi Secretariat, Mauritius, and created a new record under the prestigious India Book of Records (IBR) and the Asia Book of Records (ABR).

The record was for the maximum number of books of an author released in a single day. Being a lifelong learner, he acquired knowledge from human society and shared the same by authoring these 102 books written in Hindi language. All the books were released by the General Secretary of World Hindi Secretariat Ms Madhuri Ramdharee on June 15, 2023.

Suresh Kumar Shrichandani told the India Book of Records magazine that 101 books were on a single theme ‘Inner Personality Development’. These books had been written in one go and released together to set a record and to extensively publicise the messages contained in these books. The 102th book - ‘Bima Paribhasha Kosh’ is the rarest of rare work in Hindi language. These books were written in a time span of 13 years, with a gap of 6 years, and published in two years. I worked as a Hindi translator in a public sector general insurer - The Oriental Insurance Company Limited from 1988 to 2022. I also wrote the longest poem book on patriotism - ‘Bharat Bhartiyata Bhartiyanayak’.”

Shrichandani further added, “I attended six World Hindi Conferences held in the UK, the USA, South Africa, India, Mauritius and Fiji. My name had been included in a panel of Scholars (2019) issued by The Official Language Department, Ministry of Home affairs, Govt of India. I was keen to write some books on ‘Inner Personality Development ‘, to write an extensive Insurance Definitional Dictionary in Hindi, and to arrange the translation of my books in other Indian languages.”

The book launch was a unique event as it was for the first time on the soil of Mauritius that 102 Hindi books were being released at the same time. The author, Suresh Kumar Shrichandani has done MA in many subjects. He has also obtained post graduate diplomas in 20 subjects. He has extensively studied the subjects like Hindi, English, Linguistics, Philosophy, Sociology etc.

Some of the themes of the books were: Acquiring selfconfidence, Acquiring knowledge, Acquiring self-knowledge, Acquiring wisdom, Choosing harmony, Cultivating restraint, Becoming studious, Becoming a struggler, Thoughts of conquering greed, Ideas of development of dietary rationality, Ideas of self-realization journey, Ideas of self-realisation, Ideas of pure desire, Ideas of victory over ego, Ideas of victory over attachment, Ideas of victory over anger, etc. All the books have hundreds of pages and are full of original ideas.

A bid to curb nasal allergy

A

llergic rhinitis (AR), the seasonal type of which is called hay fever, is a type of inflammation in the nose that occurs when the immune system overreacts to allergens in the air.

Signs and symptoms of this condition include a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, red, itchy, and watery eyes, and swelling around the eyes. The fluid from the nose is usually clear. Symptom onset is often within minutes following allergen exposure and can affect sleep and the ability to work or study. Some people may develop symptoms only during specific times of the year, often as a result of pollen exposure. Many people with allergic rhinitis also have asthma, allergic conjunctivitis, or atopic dermatitis.

To diagnose and treat this uncommon cold amongst patients, Cipla Limited in association with IJCP Group of Delhi as an event partner, organised a mega activity across India during World Allergy Week (June 18-24, 2023) and in the process set an Asia Book of Record. A total of 1928 health care professionals (HCPs)

were engaged via in-clinic camps wherein more than 20,000 patients were screened across India for this uncommon cold, medically called allergic rhinitis. The activity was aimed to spread awareness and facilitate early diagnosis and appropriate management of the allergic condition, which causes quite discomfort and loss of productivity.

Talking to the India Book of Records magazine, Srishti Surve from the IJCP Group, said, “Allergic rhinitis is an allergic response causing itchy, watery eyes, sneezing and other similar symptoms. Allergic rhinitis occurs seasonally or year-round.

Diagnosis involves history-taking, examination of the nasal passages and sometimes skin testing.

We took this massive exercise to engage with HCPs across the country and to make people aware of this condition. The doctors engaged in the exercise were mostly ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) specialists.”

It is worth mentioning here that allergic rhinitis is typically triggered by environmental allergens such as pollen, pet hair, dust, smoke, or mold. Inherited genetics and environmental exposures contribute to the development of allergies. Growing up on a farm and having multiple siblings decreases this risk.

The underlying mechanism involves antibodies that attach to an allergen, and

subsequently result in the release of inflammatory chemicals such as histamine from mast cells.

The inflammatory chemicals cause mucous membranes in the nose, eyes and throat to become inflamed and itchy as they work to eject the allergen. Diagnosis is typically based on a combination of symptoms and a skin prick test or blood tests for allergenspecific IgE antibodies. These tests, however, can give false positives. The symptoms of allergies resemble those of the common cold; however, they often last for more than two weeks and, despite the common name, typically do not include a fever.

n the quest to honour the unsung yet real heroes, the freedom fighters, martyrs, and gallantry award winners from 24 states who selflessly sacrificed for the nation, the Saket Group of Institutions of Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, designed a programme comprising an exhibition, inspirational speeches, engaging skits, soul-stirring dances, and patriotic songs. The celebration continued for 9 hours and 40 minutes wherein various programmes were performed by 285 students of different age groups along with nine teachers in continuation by expressing gratitude to the freedom fighters for the longest duration ceremony, held at Saket MGM Senior Secondary School, Vidisha, on August 15, 2023. The event got registered in the India Book of Records.

The event was graced by the District Magistrate, MLA of the area, president of the District Panchayat, District Education Officer, President of the Municipality, and some reputed educationists. Over 500 students of Saket MGM and Saket Shishu Ranjan took part in the event. The event started at 8 in the morning and continued till the evening. At the end of the programme, Prateek Joshi, the IBR adjudicator, announced the record and presented a certificate and a medal to the organisers.

Two stages of 3000 sq feet size at the Saket MGM School were decorated with 5000 tricoloured balloons. o celebrate the festive spirit of Rakhsha Bandhan, a new record was set by making a huge Rakhi of 1150 feet and 25 feet diameter in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. The unusual craft has been registered in the prestigious India Book of Records (IBR) and the Asia Book of Records (ABR) as well. The amazing piece of this symbol of the love between the brothers and sisters, was created in a matter of two days in a zig-zag pattern using various kinds of cloth, woods, thread and wires.

Rakhi maker Ashok Bhardwaj received certificates from the adjudicator of the India Book of Records.

Ashok Bhardwaj (59) said, “I was sitting with my workers and discussing what should be done to this Raksha Bandhan to make it memorable, and we thought of making the biggest Rakhi ever developed in the country. We searched on the Internet and found that the size of 1150 feet and 25 feet diameter would be the best idea to set a new record. Artisans from Kota, Delhi and Gwalior were engaged to prepare the mega size Rakhi measuring 1150 feet and 25 feet in diameter.”

After all the checks of parameters, the achievement was recognized by the team of India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records.

The record for the Biggest Rakhi was set

by Ashok Bhardwaj of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, who made the biggest rakhi measuring a total of 1150 feet and 25 feet in diameter, created in a matter of two days.

Bhardwaj, hails from Mehgaon of Bhind district. At his house, Bhardwaj Niwas, more than 10 artisans and other workers were continuously engaged in crafting the Rakhi.

Components of the rakhi included mostly foam, wooden board, wood and pieces of different types of cloth. The diameter of

the central circle was 25 feet. Beside which, two other crafted circles of 15 feet diameter were added. Similarly, more circles of 10, 5 and 2 feet were added on both the sides to give it a complete look of a mega sized Rakhi. The Rakhi design was based on the theme of ‘Ladli Behen’ and the ‘Public welfare schemes of the Central and the state government’. Words on the theme were mentioned on both sides of the Rakhi.

According to Ashok Bhardwaj, when he decided that he was going to make the biggest rakhi, the word spread in the town.

After the completion of the craft piece, it was displayed at a huge exhibition till Janmashtami. Bhardwaj is ealted about the huge achievement. He said, “It feels good to know the name of Chambal is being illuminated everywhere. Even if someone tries to ascend this record, his village Mehgaon’s name will also come to the fore.”

5-member team from the Nila Horse Riding Academy, Erode, including two children and two married women, successfully completed a 497 km horseback ride from Kanyakumari to Andhiyur. The team’s achievement has found a place in the India Book of Records (IBR). The 5 riders were also felicitated by the Indigenous Horse Society, Coimbatore. The list of riders who took part in the ride included Gowthaman M Vetrikannan (33), Ms Swathi Nachimuthu (32), Ms Priya Darshini Ranganathan (32), Ms Subhdadra Chandrakanth (13), and Manav Subramaniam (12). The ride was organised by the Indigenous Horse Society, Coimbatore and Nila Horse Riding Academy, Erode.

The horse riders’ team thus created a new national record, on behalf of Nila Horse Riding Academy of Erode, Tamilnadu, for the maximum number of people travelling for an expedition while riding on horseback. The horse riders started their expedition from Kanya Kumari on July 28, 2023, and finished the attempt at the Anthiyur Gurunatha Swamy temple fairgrounds on August 8, 2023. The riders covered an average distance of 60 km per day.

It was a meticulously planned and well-arranged horse riding expedition, wherein a 25-member support team accompanied the riders all the way on cars and other vehicles. The team had all types of support systems ready from meeting the emergency needs to medical assistance among other unexpected things.

When asked about his future plans, Guatam said that his team was planning a 250 km horse ride with kids, in the near future.
