KIDS CORNER | AGES 6 MONTHS-7 YEARS

Healthy parents are happy parents. Let your child have fun at the Y while you take time for yourself to get fit. There is no need to call ahead. Parents must remain in the facility while their children are in the playroom.

PINT-SIZE PUPILS

PRESCHOOL & KINDERGARTEN ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

REGISTRATION IS UNDERWAY

This program is designed for preschool and kindergarten-aged children, ages 3-6. The focus will be on developing socialization skills, as well as introducing colors, shapes, letters and numbers. Children will participate in learning activities, craft projects, music, gym play and more. Students must be fully potty-trained.

Summer dance participants will learn choreography to be performed at the 2025 Summer Dance Recital, which will be held on Sunday, August 10 at Oswego High School. All program fees include a costume for the recital.

THRIVE Dance Team

Open to dancers of all ages and abilities, THRIVE provides kids, ages 5-18, with the opportunity to learn and develop skills across various dance styles and perform at local community events. Highly skilled dancers also have the opportunity to audition for THRIVE’s award-winning competition team.

Season starts the week of August 25.

Private & Semi-Private Dance Lessons

Work with an experienced dance instructor in a one-on-one or small group setting. Sessions can be 30 or 60 minutes in length and will focus on strengthening your dancer’s abilities.

When kids play sports they get more than just exercise. Besides being physically active, they develop higher self-esteem, perform better in school, and work better in groups. YMCA sports camps teach kids the fundamentals of the game while emphasizing the importance of teamwork.

PRACTICES AND GAMES

Practices begin the week of August 18. Games will be played primarily on Friday evenings/ Saturday mornings beginning the week of September 2. Occasional games may be held on weeknights.

Practice and game locations will include the C.W. Avery Family YMCA, Lincoln Elementary School, and Ira Jones Middle School. Ages 4-6 will play 7 regular season games. Age divisions 7 and up will play 6 regular season games and at least 1 playoff game.

*Leagues may be merged with Galowich Family YMCA and Morris Hospital YMCA with games played in Joliet and Morris.

OFFICIAL NFL GEAR

All participants will receive an NFL jersey and flag belt. Mouthguards are required and gloves are recommended. Rubber cleats are recommended, but gym shoes are also allowed. Metal cleats are not allowed. Participants are asked to wear pants/shorts that do not have pockets while competing in games.

Preschool, Grades K-6 Soccer

Preschool/Kindergarten

Introduces children to the game of soccer. Grades 1-2

Players begin to learn more than just the basics of soccer.

Uniforms: All participants will receive a soccer t-shirt and socks for games.

Games:

7 game season. Games beginning the week of September 2 and will be played on Friday evenings, Saturdays mornings, and occasional weeknight games at the C.W. Avery Family YMCA.

Preseason clinics are available to all registered Youth Soccer participants at no extra cost. Pre-registration is requested.

Before and After School Youth Enrichment Program

In the YMCA’s Before and After School program, kids participate in physical, learning, and imaginative activities that encourage them to explore who they are and what they can achieve. Kids have fun, make new friends, and create memories that last a lifetime.

The C.W. Avery Family YMCA’s Before and After School Program serves children onsite at all Plainfield District 202 elementary schools and Valley View 365U schools .

At the Y, no one is turned away due to the inability to pay. DHS funds are accepted. Financial assistance may also be available for those who do not qualify for DHS funds. Programming runs Monday through Friday on school days and coordinates with each school district’s calendar. A $50 non-refundable registration fee per family and YMCA membership fee (if applicable) are due upon registering. Ten installment payments will be paid monthly beginning in August via automatic withdrawal from a checking account or debit/credit card. If families register after the start of the school year, the first monthly installment will be collected at the time of registration. Participants may start attending Kid Zone four business days after the day registration is completed.

On select days out of school, children in grades K-8 are invited to spend the day with friends and Kid Zone staff at the C.W. Avery Family YMCA. All participants should dress for the weather, bring a sack lunch, a drink, snacks, a swimsuit and a towel. Please note: Refunds will not be given to those who are unable to attend. The registration deadline is 48 hours prior to the day off school. Program will run on all District 202 days out of school (excluding major holidays).

Grades K-8

Times: Children may be signed in as early as 7 a.m. and signed out as late as 6 p.m.

Price: $46/$63 per day

ADAPTIVE SWIM LESSONS

Our adaptive swim lesson program is designed for children with special needs. The goal of this program is to provide basic water instruction and water safety skills in a therapeutic manner with the needs of each individual participant in mind.

FIT4U Free for Facility Members!

If you are looking to start a new fitness routine and don’t know where to start, or if you have taken a break from exercise and want to get back on track, this FREE program is for you! The Y’s Fit4U program offers guidance, knowledge, and motivation to help you lead a healthier lifestyle and become more physically active. This comprehensive 4-week introductory program will introduce you to the Wellness Center amenities, help you set goals, and design a workout program that works best for you. Each appointment will introduce you to a new element of fitness under the guidance of a Wellness Attendant.

PART 1: GETTING STARTED AND BASELINE TESTS

During this opening session, we will assess your current fitness level, set goals, get body composition (if requested), and complete our Fit4U questionnaire. You will have the opportunity to get set up on the YMCA on the Go App and begin orientation on any cardiovascular equipment (treadmills, ellipticals and bikes) that interests you.

EARN YOUR SHIRT SUMMER FITNESS CHALLENGE

The Y wants to help you stay committed to a healthy lifestyle this summer and that is why we are excited for our ‘Earn Your Shirt’ Check-In Challenge!

Check in at the YMCA 20 times between June 16 and August 10 and you’ll earn a special YMCA t-shirt.

PART 2: CARDIO REVIEW AND UPPER BODY STRENGTH

This session will reinforce the basics of using cardio equipment and add instruction of upper body strength equipment based on your fitness goals.

PART 3: LOWER BODY STRENGTH

The third session will introduce lower body strength equipment based on your fitness goals and review progress on your new fitness schedule.

PART 4: PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

In this closing session, we will review and answer any additional questions related to cardio or strength equipment, workout progressions, and Personal Training options.

Members who complete all 4 sessions will be entered into a raffle for a free personal training session.

WELLNESS CENTER CERTIFICATIONS

This course is required for teens aged 13 to 15 who wish to access our wellness centers. It is designed to provide a comprehensive and informative session so teens can properly utilize strength and cardiovascular equipment. The fee is $20, and parents are needed for the paperwork.

If you have been stuck in a rut, lost motivation, or just need an extra push then this class if for you. Taught by a certified personal trainer, you will get 1 hour of workout time, weekly follow ups, and motivation to help you reach your goals.

TRX SUSPENSION TRAINING

Using a TRX Suspension Trainer, you get an effective total-body workout that helps you build true functional strength and improve flexibility, balance and core stability all at once. Workouts can be modified for all fitness levels, including beginners, seniors and athletes.

Learn Choreography to 1 specific Top 40/ Current song, taught by a dance teacher. Adult participants will learn choreography as a dancer would. Movements are made for any level. Participants will become more confident through dance! No previous experience needed. *This session will have the opportunity to learn 2 dances- One will be in the Summer Dance Recital.
