SPACE, QUIETITUDE, THE ULTIMATE LUXURY
Ramana1 -The Mountain
RiverValley View Leopard
Longhouse
While walking down to Ramana 1-You will pass by our Yoga Platform and Al Fresco Dining spot, before coming to Ramana1 and its rockery, tended to by our female staff, who work extremely hard in all roles.
A singularly unique set of bungalowsEach, A Home, Away from Home. Whose owner’s eco conscious efforts have been recognised internationally
If you are willing to walk on the wild side (about 8-10 slow minutes) through the portals of our rustic gate where you will be warmly met, You will be afforded the most spectacular views of the Holy Ganga, as you meander slowly down. You can take your time as you are now in the world of the unrushed..
Uniquely constructed with upcycled materiels,in limestone mortar to respond best to the outside temperature and built to last, whether the ancient carved timers, or slate flooring, or river wood timbers.. And more..there is a tale at every bend..which we will share with you once here.. Can you imagine having built this amazing edifice, without access to a motor road?! The porch verandah itself is a stand alone space…by day or night when it is time for the proverbial sundowner, opening to a slate garden and orchard, forest and the view of mountain and river, across and below
The interior is an all in one space too, as we have built according to the topography. A Four Poster Bed, Imperial style, past which is a storage area and tea room, and fridgidaire. Near it is a wall library with a read for every taste and a fire place for mid winter for drift wood fires, a wall bar stand(BYO), a writing desk, and a sitting ensemble. Enough natural lighting is inbuilt into The Longhouse. The leopard painting lithograph above the desk, reminds us of the predator of the regionOpposite and near the fireplace, is a wall library with a bookfor every taste . The fire place for mid winter for drift wood fires and a wall bar stand(BYO), along with the sitting ensemble, completes the interior space. Pictures of the surroundings adorn the wall. Guide books are on hand for learning about the night sky, birds, butterflies and mammals of the surroundings, along with binoculars, and a telescope to spot them.
Past the sitting area, a small powder room and mirror, and then the toilet with shower
• Construction has been long and laborious. In order to preserve the natural surroundings intact, existing features such as rocks, and trees have all been preserved. The many makeovers and construction challenges only leads to a quaintness.
A uniquely positioned cosy cottage overlooking cliff and beach directly, this is the smallest of our cottages but has enough for a romantic couple and a fair sized bathroom. Quiet and tucked away, it is more frugally appointed than Ramana 1-The Longhouse (or The Mountain RiverValley View Longhouse) but has a small fridge, and storage cupboard. It also has its own sit out porch. Even the bathroom has a grand view of the Ganges (below left).
• So named, as it is in a most inspirational spot, with an unmatched vantage view of the Ganges, perhaps unmatched anywhere. It is simply appointed but affords dramatic views through large windows, and a double French door and windows which can be opened in the warm months. A small tea kitchenette is attached. This can be used by long stay visitors.
• This is after three decades of replenishing the degraded sandy soil of the banks of the Ganges that lines our land. This produce or other organic produce to the maximum possible extent of our sourcing ability, makes its way to your table.
• Along with the fruit shown here, lemons and lime, amla and guava, as well as chillies, curry patta grown on our land. The banana tree often serves as a plate for those who want to dine the traditional way. Local flour such as mandwa, and lentils such as kulat are also sourced locally and served on occasion.
As an organic homestay and farm, we are able to grow a few limited produce

after an evening, aarti, a bbq and sundowner can follow. The beach bonfire can linger into the wee hours. The resident crooner can regale with local and western favourites

•We have just returned from an incredible holiday in India and were privileged to have had the opportunity to visit the Spashram River Mountain Retreat where we were hosted by non-other than the owner and renowned environmentalist and ecologist, Mr. Inderjit Singe (IJ when you get to know him) Spashram, a nature reserve oasis nestled in the foot hills of the Himalayas on the bank of the Ganges or Ganga as it is known locally, is a retreat like no where else. We went there to unwind, reheel and soak up part of the Uttarakhand culture….we were not disappointed! After 2 nights and 3 days we left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and ready to embark on our demanding schedule in Delhi and then Goa.
• From the moment we arrived in Spashram, Ayurvedic treatments were on hand. We enjoyed yoga overlooking the Ganga with the odd monkey keeping a watchful eye. Therapeutic massages followed with professional practitioners and we were bathed in liberal amounts of health restoring oils. Time stood still as we unwound from the western world. We spent our evenings with IJ, serenaded by George the resident guitarist, listening about the folk lore of the area and being educated in all matters of Indian life and culture. The time was too short to hear it all but what we did hear has encouraged us to travel again with IJ at the helm, throughout the area of northern India and beyond. We just hope we have long enough to live out our dreams.
• We didn’t read up on the area before we travelled there as we like to be ‘surprised’ and we were – Spashram was more than our expectations. The grand finale of our time there was a private 4-hour white water rafting trip on the Ganges which started in Deoprayag at the confluence of the true Ganga and ended at our private beach at Spashram. Exhilarating and exciting – definitely not for the faint hearted but a wonderful experience kindly arranged and organized for us by our host IJ. Apart from the exhilarating rapids, and there were many which we negotiated, we were introduced to new species of birds and wild life along the river shores.
• On arrival at The Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun – about a 50 min flight from Delhi, we were picked up in an air conditioned SUV and embarked on our 52k journey through amazing countryside to Rishikesh and then to our destination - all part of The Tiger Paws Hospitality package. On arrival we were greeted by welcoming staff and escorted down meandering steep paths and banks which led to our accommodation and the banks of the Holy Ganga – a challenging walk but very much worth the effort.Accommodation was cozy and comfortable – catering was excellent and our every need was catered for in this’ Off the Beaten Track’ location.
• If you are looking for a bit of an adventure in an unspoilt environment where time stands still then this experience staying at Spashram is definitely not one to be missed
