Authorities in Alabama have captured Brandon Heath Anaya, 26, of Gadsden, Ala. after the man allegedly led authorities on a three-state chase which began in Selmer last Sunday Morning. Selmer officers took part in a threestate high speed pursuit after responding to reports of an aggressive driver on Highway 45 south of Selmer. According to an incident report provided by Sgt. Ron Pilkington of the Selmer Police Department, the pursuit began when he and Sgt. Ted Roberts responded to the area of the Highway 64 and Highway 45 to intercept a late model gray Chevrolet car with Alabama license plates which reportedly had fled the scene of an accident on the Selmer bypass. The two officers then continued south on Highway 45 and caught up with the vehicle about five miles south of Selmer where they stopped the car. At this point, Pilkington and Roberts were joined by McNairy County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Gilbert as they exited their vehicle and approached the suspect’s car. According to Pilkington’s report, as Gilbert approached the driver’s side window of the gray Chevrolet, the vehicle sped off southbound on Highway 45. As three officers pursued the vehicle south toward the Mississippi border, Pilkington notified dispatch to contact Alcorn County Mississippi authorities to join the pursuit. Once the gray Chevrolet reached Corinth, Miss. the suspect turned onto Highway 72 and continued through the town where the local officers were joined by a Mississippi Highway Patrol Cruiser on the far side of town. The three police cars continued to give

During this time, Pilkington reports that the suspect swerved toward the officers vehicles hitting and causing minor damage to both the MHP cruiser and the SPD car. Once the suspect reached Alabama, he is reported to have crossed the median of Highway 72 continuing eastbound in the westbound lanes of traffic at a high rate of speed. Pilkington said in the report that he became concerned for the safety of the public at that time as the suspect continued
driving for approximately two miles into oncoming traffic on this 65-mile-per-hour highway. Shortly after entering Alabama, the suspect is reported to have turned left off the highway and then right into a driveway before driving through a barbed wire fence and crashing his car into a drainage ditch. After the chase, Anaya is alleged to have fled on foot eluding officers, before finally being caught last Monday in Colbert County Alabama. Miller said that Anaya is facing Evading Arrest and Reckless Endangerment charges in Tennessee and a host of other charges in both Mississippi and Alabama.

William Clay Childress sustained head injuries as a result of a one-car crash in Guys last Friday. According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Kevin Davidson, Childress, 50, of Ramer, was driving his 1994 Chevrolet S10 pickup north on State Route 22, when he came upon a curve on the right at the intersection of 22 and Chambers Access Road. “It appeared to me he was driving too fast to negotiate the curve and hit his brakes and slid into an old store building there that belongs to Oneda Farris, of Michie,” Davidson said. Childress was arrested for driving under the influence. The Trooper said he was unsure of the extent of Childress’ injuries but he was not wearing a seat belt and was air evaced to a hospital in Memphis.
