Selmer officer charged in domestic assault By Christen Coulon Editor
A Selmer police officer awaits a decision on his future with the force following an arrest last Friday stemming from an argument with his wife. Officer Jeremy Wilson was charged with domestic assault in the incident at his home in Henderson, Tenn. According to a narrative from the arresting officer Sgt. Ricky Hardy of the Henderson Police Department, Wilson was arrested at the scene shortly after 6:30 p.m. In his report Hardy said that when he approached Wilson’s wife, “(She) appeared to be very upset and crying. I noticed red marks on her right forearm and upper arm.” In her statement to police Wilson’s wife said that the incident was precipitated by an argument over Wilson drinking at the residence. His wife claimed that during the argument Wilson grabbed her wrist and twisted her arms back. At that time, she said their son jumped on Wilson’s back in an attempt to stop him.

Selmer Police and McNairy County Sheriff’s Deputies question Naomah Amanda Barclay following a traffic stop in Selmer last Wednesday. Barclay was charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment with a firearm after allegedly taking a shot at a pedestrian as he was walking his dogs near Barclay’s home at the end of Fred Johnson Road in Bethel Springs . Bethel Springs and that he described the truck parked in the driveway as a turquoise Chevy Silverado with orange Texas Longhorns stickers on the back. “I was walking my dogs toward the end of the road and went to the end and she got off a shot and tried to shoot me. I don’t know why,” King said in an interview with the Independent Appeal. “I didn’t know what to do, I just turned around and put my hands in the air like BARCLAY I was in a western movie or something, she said she was going to put a bullet between my eyes and my dogs’ eyes.” Kellum said a truck matching the description of the one in Barclay’s driveway was seen leaving the area prior to the arrival of officers. “At approximately 2:20 p.m. Deputy (Dustin) Jaco made contact with the vehicle at Domino’s Pizza in Selmer,” Kellum said. When asked by officers why she was shooting at King, the incident report claims

A Bethel Springs woman faces aggravated assault and reckless endangerment with a firearm charges following a shooting incident on Fred Johnson Road at approximately 11:40 a.m. last Wednesday morning. Naomah Amanda Barclay was charged after allegedly taking a shot at Ethan King as he was walking his dogs near Barclay’s home at the end of Fred Johnson Road. Barclay was arrested at the Selmer Domino’s Pizza parking lot without incident following a traffic stop later that same day. “(King) was walking down the road...and heard a female yelling and heard a shot,” said Deputy Jonathan Kellum of the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department in his incident report. “Victim states that he turned around and saw a short heavy set female subject in her late 30’s with glasses on and a scoped rifle in her hands. He stated that the female subject was in her driveway and was waving the rifle in his direction,” the report stated. Kellum said that King gave the location of the shooting as 25 Fred Johnson Rd. in
that Barclay said, “she didn’t shoot at anybody and that she doesn’t have a gun.” The report also claims that her passenger in the truck, Roy Barclay, gave a statement to officer Jeremy Wilson of the Selmer Police Department that he did own a Savage 270 Winchester rifle with a scope and that (Naomah Amanda) Barclay had fired the gun earlier. At that time, Barclay admitted to officers that she had fired the rifle at King’s dog because it was fighting with her dog. Following her statements to police, Barclay was arrested and taken to the McNairy County Jail. King refuted Barclay’s amended statement to the officers that she shot at King’s dog because it was fighting with her dog. King said that his dogs were beside him the whole time and that he did not see any other dogs. King said that he was uninjured, but was still shaken up a bit following the incident. Barclay was freed on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled in court Feb. 2 for a hearing on these charges. Calls placed to Barclay’s phone number listed on the incident report which carries a Houston metropolitan area code were not returned as of press time.

While the initiation to manufacture meth is a serious charge, it has sadly become common place in McNairy County as it has nationwide. On Jan. 2, members of the McNairy County Drug Task Force arrested two individuals, Jason W. Brown and Pamela Denise Smith of Overshot Rd. in Adamsville on meth charges. However, during the search of their residence, DTF agents made a very unusual discovery...a large collection of illegal animal parts. The search by DTF agents Jamie Lowrance, David Johnson and James Frazier uncovered meth manufacturing items such as one-pot shake bottles, drain opener, drain cleaner and striped lithium which netted the suspects charges of initiation to manufacture meth, promotion of meth manufacture and possession of drug paraphernalia. However, searchers also began finding items such as raptor talons, hawk and owl talons, numerous protected turtles, hawk and owl feathers, a cottonmouth snake skin, wings and tails from hawks and owls, bags of protected bird feathers, various snake skins, an alligator head, numerous cottonmouth and copperhead snakes, an alligator tail, a bluejay, a pileated woodpecker, three snipes and a collection of frozen snake heads. In all, more than 120 animal parts were seized at this location. Upon finding the animal parts, the agents contacted Sam Bedwell of the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency to examine the animal collection and investigate further. “It’s not unusual to find odd things at a meth lab, they tend to have obsessions, this one had wildlife,” Bedwell said. In order to dispel any myths or misconceptions about when or how outdoorsmen could collect animal parts in the
