What You Should Know About Cerebyx Drug.

The generic name of the drug commonly known as Cerebyx is Fosphenitoyn. This drug works as an anti-convulsant. It is generally used to treat seizures. It is also prescribed post brain related or nervous system related surgeries, to avoid seizures that may be common post surgery. A medical practitioner may prescribe Cerebyx of any other purpose that he may deem right.

It is important to use this drug very prudently. Always consult your doctor. Check the instructions on the cover regarding the dosage. The most common way Cerebyx is administered is as an injection.

Be sure to get all your doubts and queries about this drug clarified from your doctor.

Also make sure you don't discontinue Cerebyx abruptly. Doing this can increase the risk of seizures. If you want to wean off it, inform your doctor, who will lower the doses given to you inchmeal. If you are on any supplementary vitamins, herbal medicines, or any other prescription or non-prescription meds.



if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

if you or a family member have had an allergic reaction to a barbiturate (eg, phenobarbital), carbamazepine, an oxazolidinedione (eg, trimethadione), oxcarbazepine, or a succinimide (eg, ethosuximide, methsuximide)



if you have heart problems, low blood pressure, the blood disease porphyria, liver or kidney disease, low blood albumin levels, diabetes, bone marrow problems, or a history of lymph gland problems



if your general health is poor



If you are a heavy drinker and have a history of alcohol abuse.



if you have been tested and know whether or not you have a gene type called HLA-B*1502



If you have a history, or suffer from an impaired mental health, mood swings and other mental illnesses including but not limited to depression, anxiety, bipolarity etc.

What Are the Side Effects of Cerebyx As with most medicines and drugs, be wary of the several side-effects of Cerebyx.

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects.

Some of the following side-effects are common. They are dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; headache; nausea; pelvic pain and vomiting.

Do not ignore severe side-effects and seek medical help immediately upon experiencing them. The severe side-effects are: Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), bone pain, burning, numbness, or tingling, butterfly-shaped rash on the face, chest pain, clumsiness or unsteadiness, confusion, decreased coordination, delirium, fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat, hearing problems (eg, ringing in the ears, hearing loss), new or worsening mental or mood changes (eg, agitation, anxiety, behavior changes, depression, irritability, panic attacks, restlessness, suicidal thoughts or attempts), new or worsening seizures, muscle pain, weakness, or cramping, pain, swelling, or redness at or near the injection site, red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin, severe or persistent dizziness, light-headedness, headache, or drowsiness, severe or persistent trouble sleeping, signs of infection (eg, fever, chills, sore throat), sluggishness, sores in the mouth or around the eyes, speech problems, swollen lymph nodes, swollen or tender gums, symptoms of liver problems (eg, dark urine, loss of appetite, pale stools, stomach pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes), tremor, unusual bruising or bleeding, unusual eye movements, unusual muscle movements, unusual tiredness or weakness, vision changes.

If you have any questions regarding Cerebyx, be sure to ask an informed person, preferably your health care provider or pharmacist or doctor. Do not use it without prescription. Being potent, it can be dangerous if used when not prescribed. If you realize that your symptoms are getting worse and that there has not been any improvement in your condition, contact your doctor immediately, without hesitation. If you end up not using Cerebyx or end up with some extra doses, dispose of it carefully, and only after consulting your pharmacist.

Fosphenytoin is usually injected into a muscle, or into a vein through an IV. You may be shown how to use injections at home. Do not self-inject this medicine if you do not fully understand how to give the injection and properly dispose of all the used things.

Your breathing, blood pressure, oxygen levels, kidney function, and other vital signs will be watched closely while you are receiving fosphenytoin in a clinic or hospital setting. Your heart function may also need to be checked using an electrocardiograph or ECG (sometimes called an EKG). You will be watched closely for at least 20 minutes after receiving fosphenytoin, to be sure this medication is not causing harmful effects.

Use a disposable needle only once. Throw away used needles in a puncture-proof container (ask your pharmacist where you can get one and how to dispose of it).

Keep this container out of the reach of children and pets.

Be sure to store Cerebyx in a refrigerator. Make sure, however, that you do not let it freeze.

Above all it is important to remember that many drugs react with Cerebyx. For this it is important that there is complete transparency and full disclosure between you and your doctor. It can give you unusually amazing results if used with caution and by following all the right instructions. However, getting foolhardy with a drug as strong as this one can result into more damage than good, as has been mentioned earlier.

At all times, make sure that you ask questions, no matter how silly you think your queries are. Also remember that it is not the best remedy for young children and look for alternative ways. Cerebyx is a great anti-convulsant if used carefully and in right amount, without missing doses, as far as possible and avoiding an overdose at all costs.
