Event Article

The Oxford International Women’s Festival has been running successfully for more than 20 years and aims to highlight women’s local, national and international issues. It is also a supporter of women and organisations campaigning for equal rights and opportunities. A dedicated group of local and international women from all backgrounds, beliefs and cultures coordinate the Festival on a voluntary basis throughout the year. We organise fundraising events, coordinate the marketing, designing and advertising of the programme, and aim to pull together community groups, charities and businesses that hold events during the Festival period. The theme for 2012 is ‘Equality and Diversity’ and will include the celebration of International Women’s Day on 8th March with a launch event at the Town Hall. Running from Friday 2nd to Monday 12th March 2012, there will be a fantastic variety of events happening in various venues throughout Oxford city and the wider county. The Festival promises an exciting and informative line up of events including exhibitions, workshops, topical talks, performances and social events celebrating women’s achievements in sport, science, film, literature, theatre and more. Application forms to hold an event during the Festival, or to advertise your business or charity in the programme, can be found on our website, or by contacting Anna Hobson. If you would like to volunteer as a fundraiser, organise sponsored events or be part of the planning committee, please contact Anna or Debbie. Also, if you would like to volunteer as a steward during the Festival itself, or have any specialist skills that may be of benefit in media and publicity, photography, project management or marketing, please do get in touch. Due to the financial climate, our funding is sadly a lot less than in previous years so your support is greatly appreciated in whatever capacity. We have Festival t-shirts and books for sale at reasonable prices, and we run several fundraising events leading up to the Festival, so do look out for us and come and get involved.
