CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AT IN-COMM

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is an active and structured approach to learning and professional growth that highlights the importance of ongoing education and skill enhancement. In today’s rapidly evolving world, characterised by technological advancements and shifting industry standards, it is crucial for our people to continually update their knowledge and competencies.

CPD involves a broad spectrum of activities, including formal education, workplace training, workshops, conferences, and self-directed learning. The goal is to ensure individuals remain competent, effective, and competitive in their fields. Additionally, CPD promotes a culture of lifelong learning, encouraging everyone to take responsibility for their professional growth and adapt to the changing demands of their roles.

A key benefit of CPD is its ability to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Through CPD, personnel not only enhance their technical skills but also develop vital soft skills such as leadership, communication, and problem-solving. This handbook outlines your CPD pathway as part of your career at In-Comm. It demonstrates our commitment to supporting all the aspects mentioned above. Your contract of employment, along with the HR Training & Development policy and process within the Employee Handbook, provides key information on how CPD is arranged and managed and should be read in conjunction with this handbook.

INDUSTRY LINKED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

In-Comm’s founding ethos is that of employing highly technical expert staff sourced from various industries predominantly through the Advanced Engineering & Manufacturing Sector. Unfortunately, this can be a double-edged sword. You as the expert bring cutting-edge knowledge and experiences essential for our learners and apprentices to thrive in a rapidly evolving job market. Yet at the same time, you are not trained teachers.

Throughout this training handbook the pathway is laid out to detail how we at In-Comm will turn you as technical experts into effective educators. We have first-hand experience of the importance of differentiation, engagement and assessment strategies. Teaching is a craft in itself.  We aim to equip you with the teaching skills, these programmes bridge the gap between industry knowledge and pedagogical expertise which we realise is not going to be a quick task!

So whilst alongside the teaching development we are committed to delivering to coach and mentor you into the teachers of tomorrow, we also need to ensure that you keep up to date with the skills needed ensuring that we anticipate industry trends and align our training programmes accordingly, as a training provider we want to ensure that our workforce remains

agile and adaptable to the demands of the future. GENERIC STAFF COURSES

L2 SAFEGUARDING

Online Training

The purpose of this qualification is to increase the learner’s knowledge and awareness of the Prevent Duty and safeguarding, including online safety.

By completing the qualification, learners will develop knowledge of safeguarding in an environment where they have a duty of care.

Course Duration: 16-24 Hours

Training Window: Within first 3 months

ACAS EQUALITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

Online Training

You will find out what the law says and you will learn what the protected characteristics are within the Equality Act 2010. The course will show you how to adopt the right approach to equality and diversity in the workplace and encourage you to think about your policies and procedures and whether they are working effectively.

Course Duration: 30 minutes

Training Window: Within first 2 weeks and annually thereafter.

GDPR AWARENESS

Online Training

To understand the appropriate technical and organisational measures to handle data securely; understand what constitutes consent from a data subject; understand the duties of the Data Protection Officer; understand data subject’s privacy rights.

Course Duration: 20 minutes

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS

Online Training

To understand common mental health signs and symptoms; understand what mindfulness is; understand ways to enhance better mental health.

KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE IN EDUCATION PART ONE - CHECK OF UNDERSTANDING

Written Assessment

Keeping children safe in education is statutory guidance that schools and colleges in England must have regard to when carrying out their duties to safeguard and promote welfare of children. This short written test confirms understanding of the Part One document.

Course Duration: 1 hour

PREVENT REFRESHER TRAINING

Online Training

This course is to ensure that all staff refresh and maintain their knowledge of the Prevent strategy key points.

Course Duration: 1 hour

FRAUD AWARENESS AND PREVENTION TRAINING

Online Training

This course covers what needs to be done to protect the workplace from fraud. The course will introduce learners to the basics of what fraud is and the fraud act 2006; with that new knowledge you will learn what to do if you see or hear things that don’t appear right and your responsibilities to report it. Finally, you will learn about protective measures you and the business can take to combat fraud.

Course Duration: 1 hour

Training Window: Within first 2 weeks and every other year thereafter

SEXUAL HARASSMENT AWARENESS TRAINING

Online Training

This course is designed to raise awareness of workplace sexual harassment. It will provide the necessary tools and information to identify, prevent and remove sexual harassment from the workplace. Specifically, it will help learners understand the types of sexual harassment and the effect if can have on people. The course then concludes with teaching learners on the routes available for addressing sexual harassment and how to manage uncomfortable situations.

Course Duration: 1 hour

BULLYING AND HARASSMENT TRAINING

Online Training

This course provides practical steps and guidance to help prevent, identify and confidently confront bullying and harassment at work. Learners will become proficient with the definitions of both bullying and harassment, what constitutes as direct and indirect discrimination and the effects of bullying and harassment. The course concludes with giving you step by step guidance on the actions to take if you identify bullying or harassment and the action to take.

Course Duration: 1 hour

IOSH WORKING SAFELY

Online Training

By the end of this course you will be able to identify why it is important to work safely; identify everyone’s responsibilities in relation to Safety, Health and Wellbeing in the workplace; be able to define key terms in safety and health; identify workplace hazards and risks and how to control them; identify ways safety, health and wellbeing are managed and improved within the workplace.

Course Duration: 6-8 hours

ACADEMY ASSESSOR COURSES

L2 FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

Classroom Training

L2 Functional Skills training will be provided to those who either have not previously achieved Maths/ English grades 5-9 (A-C) or accepted equivalent, or those who cannot provide proof of attainment. Training requirements will be assessed on an individual basis and a training delivery schedule tailored accordingly.

Course Duration: Individually tailored

Training Window: Within first 3 months

L3 CERTIFICATE IN ASSESSING VOCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT (CAVA)

Online Training

This L3 qualification is the foundation level for all those who will be assessing our learners. It has 3 assessed units and your learning is supported by submitting evidence of your real-life assessments that you are conducting in your day-to-day role.

Course Duration: 150 hours

Training Window: Within first 4 months

L3 EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Online Training

This L3 teaching qualification is a foundation course for those entering the adult education and skills sector. It is made of 3 assessed units and upon passing those you will apply your new knowledge and skills to devise a lesson plan as well as deliver a 15-minute micro-teach.

Course Duration: 48 hours

Training Window: Within first 8 months

ROLE: EXTERNAL ASSESSOR

Blended Learning LEARNING MENTOR PROGRAMME

The learning mentor programme gives you the knowledge and skills to successfully operate as a mentor within In-Comm. The programme utilises your development within the  L2 safeguarding, L3 education and training and L3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Competence to help you critically analyse your over delivery styles.  It requires you to attend practical workshops covering:

• Communication & Teamwork

• Designing & Delivering a Training Session

• Improving Performance

• Understanding Training & Coaching

• Presentation Skills

You will be required to complete a series of self-reflection analyses and a benchmarking exercise, producing written reports on your lesson delivery. The exercise will conclude with a presentation from you to a panel on your CPD journey to date and how you are applying that new knowledge to your learners.

Course Duration: 6 months

L3 INFORMATION, ADVICE AND GUIDANCE

Online Training

This L3 course helps you develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to confidentially and effectively give advice to customers, colleagues and stakeholders.

Course Duration: 360 hours

L4 EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Online Training

The L4 course in education and training is your next step to evaluate and improve on your L3 skillsets. The course consists of 6 assessed units and submission of learning logs and session observations.

Blended Learning ASSESSOR

COACH

PROGRAMME

The assessor coach programme gives you the knowledge and skills to successfully operate as a coach and assessor within In-Comm. The programme builds upon your development through your initial training at level 3 and utilises your training on the L4 Education & Training and Level 3 Information Advice and Guidance to help you evaluate your coaching and assessing style of delivery to your learners.  It requires you to attend practical workshops covering:

• Coaching

• Careers Guidance

• Dealing with difficult people

• Solving problems and making decisions

• Leadership

• Negotiation

• Sustainability

You will be required to complete a series of self-reflection analyses and a benchmarking exercise, producing written reports on your lesson delivery. ABRASIVE WHEELS AWARENESS

Online Training

This awareness course will inform you of the risks associated with abrasive wheels and the practical steps that can be taken to manage the risk so that you can understand more about your legal responsibilities and how to carry out your job role safely.

Course Duration: 90 minutes

Training Window: First 2 weeks

FIRE WARDEN / MARSHAL

Online Training

This course will raise your awareness of the risks posed by fire and the arrangements required in all workplaces to eliminate or reduce the risks that fire presents. It will inform you of the key roles and responsibilities of a fire warden / marshal.

Course Duration: 90 minutes

MANUAL HANDLING AWARENESS

Online Training

In this course you will gain an awareness of the risks from manual handling activities so that you understand more about your responsibilities and how to conduct your job role safely.

COSHH AWARENESS

Online Training

During this course you will learn about the risks associated with hazardous substances and the practical steps that can be taken to manage the risk so that you can meet your legal responsibilities and be able to carry out your job role safely.

SLIPS, TRIPS AND FALLS AWARENESS

Online Training

This awareness course will make you aware of the risks associated with slips, trips and falls so that you can identify risks, assess hazards and be able to put preventative measures in place to ensure you can work safely and meet your legal responsibilities.

Course Duration: 90 minutes

IOSH MANAGING SAFELY

Online Training

This course gives you an understanding of everyone’s safety and health responsibilities in the workplace. It will also enable you to recognise how you can influence, control and monitor risks to improve safety and health issues in the workplace.

Course Duration: 16-24 hours

Online Training

Safer recruitment is an essential part of safeguarding. This course covers the organisational responsibilities for developing safer recruitment policies and procedures; preparing to recruit; selecting; explaining what background checks are needed; responding to concerns raised through background checks; responding to inappropriate behaviour and/or allegations of abuse.

Course Duration: 1 hour

Training Window: Prior to conducting first interview and then annually thereafter

INTERVIEW PRODUCTIVITY HACKS

Online Training

A short course to given you essential knowledge on how to prepare correctly for conducting an interview; to understand which candidates are right for your role; and how to give a great impression of the company.

Course Duration: 20 minutes

In this course you will better understand mental health, its definition and the wider worries we all experience through everyday life. It will give you an awareness of how to support and manage staff who are experiencing difficulties.

On completion of this short course you will gain awareness of the skills to communicate effectively; understand components of effective communication; and understand barriers to effective communication.

Being assertive is the quality of being self-assured and confident without being aggressive. In this course you will learn what assertiveness is; when you should be assertive; tackling difficult conversations; and distinguish between aggressive, passive and assertive behaviour.

There are natural differences in how people experience and interact with the world around them. This short course looks at the different types of neurodiversity and the employment law that you need to consider when supporting colleagues under the Equality Act 2010.

MANAGING INVESTIGATION AND DISCIPLINARY

Online Training

This course is designed to give you an understanding of how to conduct an investigation or manage a disciplinary case. It covers the general rules and procedures for conducting both of these managerial tasks.

This training is in addition to the professional training from their career stream (i.e. external assessor or academy tutor).

DISCIPLINARY OUTCOME AND APPEAL PROCEDURE

Online Training

Where a disciplinary meeting is required then this course gives you the understanding of what sort of sanctions may be appropriate to award. Every employee has a right to appeal a decision and the course explains how this process works so that you can give correct advice.

Classroom Training

This course is for new and aspiring junior managers. It will give you the skills and understanding to deal with management responsibilities; learn about techniques to develop yourself as a leader; learn how to manage, organise and motivate yourself and others.

L5 EDUCATION AND TRAINING

(Academy Manager and Excellence Manager only)

On completion of this course you will gain Qualified Teacher Status. You have 7 assessed units to complete covering teaching in great detail. In conjunction with those units you will also compile a teaching log of at least 100 hours teaching practice and you will have been observed delivering teaching sessions at least 8 times by a suitably qualified expert.

Course Duration: 1200 hours

L4 IQA OF ASSESSMENT PROCESSES AND PRACTICE

Online Training

For Workshop tutors/ assessors and external assessors

This course enables you to undertake IQA activities and monitor the assessments carried out internally by others. You will learn different techniques and put your skills into practice through submission of evidence and written assessments.

Course Duration: 120 hours

Training Window: Within 12 months of enrolment

L5 EDUCATION & TRAINING

Online Training

For Workshop tutors/ assessors and external assessors

On completion of this course you will gain Qualified Teacher Status. You have 7 assessed units to complete covering teaching in great detail. In conjunction with those units you will also compile a teaching log of at least 100 hours teaching practice and you will have been observed delivering teaching sessions at least 8 times by a suitably qualified expert.

Course Duration: 1200 hours

Training Window: Within 12 months of enrolment

L4 and L5 training is available to those who have progressed through previous levels of learning or have been assessed as having knowledge, skills and experience to be able to enter directly at this level.

From time to time In-Comm or an employee may identify training that brings benefits to the business. Where these are identified a training proposal form is to be submitted to the manager for consideration. Once approved, HR will book.

SUPERVISING FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH

Classroom Training

Primarily for learner facing employees, but available to all employees as part of their CPD.

Applications will be subject to a short screening interview to ensure they understand the course and that they have the required resilience to manage difficult conversations.

This course provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a wide range of mental health conditions and learn about the support/therapy provided by professional healthcare providers. They will know how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help.
