YELLOW RIBBON PROJECT | STUDIO 2

The project assigned was to design an exhibition for Yellow Ribbon Project at Bras Basah Complex , schematic spatial planning indicating activities, interactions and objects of the spaces. The concept of the space i came out with is an ex offender’s journey , designing the space to portray the different emotions an ex offender may feel through the different stages , allowing the user to emphasize with the ex offenders while raising awareness on the Yellow Ribbon Project. In this project the contrast and play with Light and shadow was explored.

1:50 showcasing contrast and play with light and shadow.

As the person walks through the space , they go through a journey of Dark to light ( restrain to free) vise versa. This is created through the ontrast between light and shadow , enclosed and open.

While the entry and exit for the top image are narrow , evoking emotions like restrained as the thick layers of thread limits the view of the outside , controlling the anount of light led in and casts shadow which gives off a trapped and dark feeling when in the space.

In contrast , the entry and exit for the below image is open , together with the high ceiling height and panels which allow one to see the outside with little to no restrain views , it creates the sense of freedom.

7 PROJECT l YELLOW RIBBON PROJECT

The project assignment started with 2 verbs which as a group of 3 presents the visualisation base on a not preconceieved understanding of the verbs into an act to a video. From the concised version of the video individually choosing 10 snapshots , a unique collage to a sketch which was produced to create a model. Identifying and exploring connectivity with the model , it was later simplified to 2 modulars which we were then tasked to create commercial spaces for the selected company. In this project , proportions , balance and contrast in material usage was explored to create 3 space with differing spatial quality despite using the same modular , inspired and aimed to recreate feelings felt in CAPCOM’s best knowned games.

Imagination

Using the previous traced sketch as floor plan , we were tasked to imagine a section. Visualisation of how the space would look as a section. With line thickeness , shading and detailing on drawing it showed the different layers , height , proportion and details of the space we imagined.

Brainstorming

After the section was drawn , we were tasked to execute it into a 3D model. Choosing of material. What was the best material for building each part of the model? What materials can really bring out the design? How will the different parts be connected? A simple yet such complex task. Brainstorming for the material choice i decided to mark it out with colours , dividing the similar parts with the same material.

Execution

Starting out with the material i was most familiar with. Glass paper - thin transparent sheets that cast beautiful colours under light , easily tearable yet when heated and burned gives off an almost contrasting characteristic. strong with a rough texture , it was the perfect material for making curved shapes. Cork boards and wires was then cut and connected , creating the model as shown.

MODULAR A & B

After the making the model , identifying details in the model , the task was to cre ate 2 modular , Modular A and B which can be connected in various ways

The modulars are designed in a way to have similar amount of negative and positive space to allow for various and flexible ways of connecting the two together , forming different shapes and forms.

12 PROJECT | SLICE OF A CITY

SLICE OF A CITY | STUDIO

The project assignment was to walk along a slice across the city and through various investigations , design and put an intervention within the boundaries of the slice in response to the findings from the walks. The inspiration for the intervention came from the study of the timeline , the historical happenings , current state of the slice and human behavior in the spaces around the slice with the help of a device deisggned to track datas along the slice. In this project a poetic approach in presentation was explored, creating a story of a boy growing up in the slice and revisiting it in the current time. While balancing the past , present and future , balance between conservation and ‘destruction’ was also expored.

SLICE OF A CITY

Given the black and white map with a slice drawn in red , we were tasked to walk the slice , not in a way it was designed for us to walk ( along proper paths ) but following the line as closely as possible. The image on the right is a collage of the map made from pictures taken around the slices. By following the line as we walk across the city , we uncover different unique findings.

The stories fallen leaves told A collage made base on the research on the historical happenings along the slice.

SLICE OF A CITY

Breaking down my slice into different parts , collages of the timeline of my slice was made and expressed in poem , telling a story of how a boy growing up through the timelineof the slice and revisit it would tell his stories.

Churning erupts and in excitement I ran Squeezing between I jumped and waved Peeking away and in awe stared At mechanical friends that came Like steam it soon faded away And soon electricity came and play With the passing wind i chat and waved as the trishaw uncle rode away Soon a new opening came Crowds gathering and excitement rose again As I look away , I realised the scenery changed Soon forgot and replaced Now a normal place it became As mechanical my friends drifted away So did interactions and excitement that once stayed In the cluster I look away feeling the Loneliness of the place

Prolongation of the end game. Celebrational space it once was , nostaglic memories fill the place but now in emptiness it faces. Cordoned off and restrained , signs of humans mostly on weekends , as I reread the story it used to say , the full stop of the story I wanted to erase ; a semi colon i wanted to add

PROJECT | SLICE OF ACITY 18

A visitor centre designed to attract more visitors to come and chill and to know of what Fort Canning has to offer. Placed right in the middle of the Lewin terrace, the new additon now cuts the colonial house , a destruction it may seem , but a new life I hope to bring. Utiling the stilts that even out the hill’s uneven surface , the structure now sinks half underground , utilising the space. The space is designed with numerous spaces for the visitors to explore freely while giving them a sneak peek of the countless opportunites fort canning has. Through interaction and exploration in throughout the spaces , users will perhaps find their intrest and from then , refering the routes and guides designed to cater , visits the numerous spaces fort canning has to offer. Buggy services will be made available near the centre , catering to people who may need or prefer a ride and guide.

INTERNSHIP| M MOSER

In this project , we were tasked to redesign Moser’s current office base on our observations. As M Moser designs in a way which revolveings around clients stories , the concept for the office was a theatre which includes an ‘On set’ and ‘Off set’ effect , bringing in the dramatic experience of a theatre to lightlight features like the Moser’s Logo. Theatre stage setup was also explore with the use of flexible furnitures which will allow the users to easily rearrange to different settings according to meeting and collaboartion needs.

SENSORY SEATS| ENVIRONMENTAL

DESIGN

The project was to design a social distancing measure in response to covid 19. The site chosen for the project is at Funan. In this project , aiming for an inclusivity for all , different mechanism and linkage system was explored with the consideration for ergonomic and universal design to create sensory seats which are interative and responsive , creating a safe and functional space yet ensuring effective social distancing while allowing people to continue with their daily lives.

Differentiated by colour , wood for table and green for seating. To attract people to seat on the green one , the material choice is green fabric which is more comfortable and softer to sit on compared to wood. Thus , making visitors naturally seat on the green seats as it is more comfortable compared to the other one , successfully creating safe distancing. The reason for choice of green fabric is to incorporate the natural element into the space. When the seats and table are of the same height and red lights are off , this gives the user the signal that the place is available. However , if the seats are taken , the red lights will be on and the tables will be elevated , creating an effective barrier , distancing the people at 1m apart.

27 PROJECT | SENSORY SEATS

The project was to pitch and propose solutions to help local businesses increase their sales ( ALL WATCHES ) during the pandemic. Together as a 3 person group , aside from a proposal to redesgin the store , we also proposed to create an app from the data collection of market trends during Covid 19. In this project , i explored into prototyping of the app. Aside from the UX/UI exploration , knowledge on business insights and marketing strategies were learnt from the workshops conducted.

LIVELY PLACE CHALLENGE | WORKSHOP ANDCOMPETITION

The project is a 4 person group project which by choosing an area in singapore , through various site visit and interviews dentify the various community habits and needs in the neighbourhood to submit a proposal in response to the findings. The initial area that was chosen was Ang Mo Kio. An infographic base on the consolidated findings and interview view was done. Unfortunately , our team had to start from ground 0 and change to Queenstown. With our new research and finding , our proposal is Heritage event for residents of Queenstown to promote intergenerational bonding while coming together to learn , enjoy and share the heritage snacks , games and stories of Queenstown. In this project i explored with different style of graphic design.
