A Milestone JOURNEY

Celebrating 20 years of Heavens Portfolio.

Welcome to a landmark edition of  Heavens Voyage, as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Heavens Portfolio. It’s both humbling and extraordinary to reflect on this milestone. What began in my living room after relocating to Singapore has grown into a globally recognised brand, now represented across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Australia. Time has flown, but the journey – filled with passion, perseverance, and purpose – has been remarkable.

There have been many defining moments along the way. From the opening of our offices in India, Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, and the Taiwan region in 2007, to our expansion into Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines in 2020, each step has marked a significant chapter in our evolution. Most recently, our presence in the GCC, Europe, and Australia has brought fresh energy and opportunity.

Yet one of the moments I hold most dear is the launch of  Heavens Voyage in 2020. Conceived in the midst of a global pandemic, it was our way of keeping the dream of travel alive –of inspiring wanderlust, curiosity, and connection. The response from clients, partners, and readers has been deeply encouraging and continues to drive our dedication to producing captivating and meaningful content.

At the heart of Heavens Portfolio lies more than just a passion for travel – we are guided by a profound sense of purpose. Community engagement and social responsibility are integral to who we are. During the pandemic, we began developing our own platform to support foundations that work with underprivileged children, offering resources, mentorship, and a voice to those who often go unheard.

Among our most cherished initiatives is our ongoing support for Project Nanhi Kali in India, which provides access to education for underprivileged girls –

empowering them to break the cycle of poverty through opportunity. In Bali, we collaborated with the Rotary Club on sustainability and community upliftment efforts in Taman Gumi Banten, focusing on education, environmental conservation, and self-sufficiency.

Reflecting on these two decades, I’m reminded that Heavens Portfolio was never built on external investment, but on enduring relationships, passionate people, and a shared vision. From luxury rail journeys and secluded yacht expeditions to purposeful educational projects and transformative wellness retreats, our work is united by the belief that travel is not only about seeing the world – it’s also about connecting with it, learning from it, and leaving it better than we found it.

As for the road ahead – while I won’t reveal all just yet – I can assure you we are committed to continued innovation and thoughtful expansion into new markets. We are also developing enhanced tools and platforms to support our trade and media partners in promoting our client hotels with greater ease and impact. Every member of our team across the world is dedicated to anticipating emerging trends, refining our offerings, and delivering excellence in service and strategy. You can expect to see the HP emblem appear in even more iconic destinations with extraordinary properties in the near future.

Travel has the power to transform. And if we can help evoke wonder, reflection, or joy – if we can help people feel something deeper – then we’ve done more than our job. We’ve fulfilled our purpose.

Heavens Portfolio

IN CONVERSATION WITH

Christine Galle-Luczak

The Founder and CEO of Heavens Portfolio talks about how it all started, travel trends in 2025, and her favourite holiday memories.

Two decades ago, Heavens Portfolio started by chance, but its rise to become a leading agency for luxury travel companies is no accident. Founded by Christine Galle-Luczak, the company is a testament to her vision and charismatic leadership, which has guided its growth to 20 locations across multiple countries.

“I was the Head of Sales and Marketing for a Thai resort called Chiva-Som,” Christine begins. “I was about to marry my now-husband Kristoffer, who had an offer to move to Singapore. The resort’s owner, Boonchu Rojanastien, and its Managing Director, Joy Menzies, then said to me, ‘Look, you’ve done a great job here. Why don’t you start your own business and we will be your first client?’

“I landed in Singapore without a proper business plan but I knew that I wanted to focus on promoting and creating strategies for unique hotels and destinations,” Christine continues.

“I actually started in my living room with only one hotel client and not knowing what name I should give to this company.”

Fast forward 20 years, and Heavens Portfolio has evolved into a trusted partner for some of the world’s most prestigious travel brands. As a specialist in luxury travel and hospitality, the company bridges the gap between exceptional properties and discerning clientele. Its strength lies in delivering tailored, endto-end solutions – ranging from strategic sales support and public relations to

media outreach, marketing, and dynamic social media engagement. Every service is crafted with precision, offering clients not only visibility but also meaningful connections that drive lasting impact. From humble beginnings to a global presence, Heavens Portfolio has charted a remarkable journey – one defined by vision, resilience, and a deep sense of loyalty. What began as a regional initiative has blossomed into a multi-market operation with a footprint stretching across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and now Australia.

“We’ve gone from strength to strength over the years,” Christine says. “Our roots in Asia are strong, with established operations in Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea.” But 2024 marked a significant milestone: in the first quarter, the company acquired the renowned GCC-based brand, The Travel Collection, rebranding it as The Travel Portfolio. This move marked a bold entry into the Middle Eastern luxury travel market.

The momentum didn’t stop there. Soon after, Heavens Portfolio expanded into the French-speaking regions of Europe, launching operations out of Switzerland to serve Monaco, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France – further solidifying its strategic growth across new continents.

By January 2025, the company had launched its Australian operation, marking yet another milestone in its global evolution. “Best of all,” Christine says, “this has all been organically driven – by our actions, our commitment, and our engagement. There are no investors behind us. This has been a labour of love, built from the ground up.”

At the heart of Heavens Portfolio is its people. “We now have a team of about 100,” Christine says. “But what makes me most proud is the loyalty within that number. Many of my core team members have been with me for more than 10 years. Some of them started with us when we first opened offices in China and India – they’re now the leaders of those very markets.”

Below: the Eastern & Oriental Express, A Belmond Train.

A world ap art.

She reflects on the company’s culture with warmth. “Heavens Portfolio has always felt like a family. Even during the worst of the pandemic, I fought hard to keep 90 per cent of our team intact. It was one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced, but I knew how important it was to hold on to the people who believed in our journey.”

That spirit of loyalty extends beyond the team to the company’s clients. “One of our longest-standing partnerships is with Chiva-Som. They’ve been with us for 20 years, and that relationship means the world to me. It’s a testament to the kind of trust and longevity we strive for in everything we do.”

With each new chapter, Heavens Portfolio continues to grow – not just in scale, but in purpose. It’s a company that not only builds markets but also nurtures people, partnerships, and values that stand the test of time.

In the midst of the pandemic’s uncertainty in 2021, Christine saw an opportunity to give back to an industry she loves. With many small travel agencies

and concierge services struggling –some having lost their teams entirely – Heavens Portfolio launched Heavens Voyage, a virtual magazine designed to support the travel community. “It was our way of helping,” she explains. “We wanted to create a platform that allowed these businesses to stay connected with their clients by sharing the incredible experiences our partners had to offer.”

What began as a digital lifeline has now evolved into a compelling voice for luxury travel inspiration.

Today, Heavens Voyage also serves as a barometer for emerging travel trends. Christine notes that the pandemic shifted not only how people travel but also why.

“Before COVID, a lot of people had long bucket-list journeys in mind, but they were always something to do later, often after retirement,” she reflects. “Now, there’s a sense of urgency to live fully and travel meaningfully.”

One of the biggest shifts? A rising passion for slow travel – experiences that allow travellers to immerse themselves

PHOTOGRAPHY:

in the journey, not just the destination. “Belmond’s Eastern & Oriental Express has become one of our most sought-after offerings,” Christine says. “People are embracing the idea of unplugging, taking their time, and really savouring the ride.”

At the same time, younger travellers are exploring more remote and adventurous corners of the world – from the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu to far-flung islands across Southeast Asia.

Christine’s own travel stories reflect that same balance between wonder and mindfulness. She fondly recalls a family trip to Lake Como in Italy. “Exploring the small villages around the lake was magical,” she says. “The cuisine, the calm, and the warm hospitality – it was everything we needed. There was a serenity that stayed with me.”

But for Christine, the spirit of adventure runs just as deep. One of her favorite memories is from the early days of Heavens Portfolio, when she boarded Silolona, one of the company’s first clients. The luxury phinisi boat sails through the

remote waters of Southeast Asia, offering immersive off-the-grid experiences. “As a diver, I had the chance to explore the marine richness of Komodo – it was absolutely breathtaking,” she remembers. “One night, under the full moon, the sea lit up with bioluminescence. It felt like we were floating through another world.”

And the next dream destination? “Argentina,” she says with a spark in her eye. “I’ve always loved dancing and horseback riding, and I imagine it’s the perfect place to enjoy both, surrounded by incredible landscapes.”

Yet no matter how far she travels, Christine always finds herself returning to a place that holds special meaning: Chiva-Som in Hua Hin, Thailand. “Wellness travel is such a vital part of who we are at Heavens Portfolio,” she shares. “Every year, I go back to Chiva-Som for a detox retreat. It’s where I recharge. Travel, for me, is transformation – and I’m proud to work with experiences that truly have the power to change lives.”

CULTIVATING Change

BEYOND

Luxury

Exploring Heavens Portfolio’s commitment to empowering women and children across Southeast Asia.

Heavens Portfolio’s series of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives run parallel to its work with the world’s best luxury hospitality companies. These projects uplift communities, specifically marginalised women in countries across Southeast Asia. Heavens Portfolio supports its designated charities through sponsorship of girls’ education, cash contributions, regular festive or seasonal gifting to children, promoting these charities

to its clients for sponsorship or support, and creating ongoing brand awareness of these charities to its network.

For instance, at CRIBS (Create Responsive Infants by Sharing) Foundation in the Philippines, strong progress has been made in the Receiving Home Program, which currently cares for 30 babies who were previously abandoned, neglected, or surrendered. This initiative represents CRIBS’ dedication towards looking after those

who need assistance the most. Likewise, the New Beginnings Program looks after survivors of sexual abuse. The programme has increased its capacity to serve 30 girls. This level of assistance is crucial to bolster the support needed for these girls.

Active volunteers of CRIBS work tirelessly to create a safe and loving home. The generous contributions of time, talent, and resources of these individuals assist the foundation to realise its objectives immeasurably. These volunteers deserve to be acknowledged for their immense contributions, coupled with the support of partnering companies. These collaborative efforts reflect the belief that “it takes a village to raise a child”. By doing so, children are given hope and support needed to create a better future.

Heavens Portfolio has also worked with CRIBS, which recently entered its 50th year, by supporting the organisation in their mission of transformation, care, and love for all children. As CRIBS looks towards the future, more volunteers and supporters are called for to ensure the next 50 years sees the children under their care receive love, support and encouragement.

Heavens Portfolio is also a proud supporter of Project Nanhi Kali, an initiative started by Anand Mahindra in 1996 with the objective of providing quality education to underserved girls in India. Jointly managed by the K. C. Mahindra Education Trust and the Naandi Foundation, the project has transformed the lives of 874,266 girls across 15 states since its inception. At Project Nanhi Kali, girls learn 21st-century skills and sports leadership skills

which are aligned with India’s National Education Policy 2020. The intervention includes skills training during school hours with emphasis on financial literacy, digital proficiency, and key life skills. These include effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving, as well as fostering gender awareness and challenging stereotypes. After school hours, the girls participate in a physical education module as well as in team sports. This promotes physical well-being and instils valuable traits such as teamwork and leadership, all of which fosters strong personal growth and a sense of self-worth for every girl in the programme. To inculcate physical and mental endurance, multi-level sporting events are held at school and district levels, including the 50-metre dash, shuttle run, standing long jump, and endurance run. Every girl also receives an annual Nanhi Kali kit consisting of one drawstring bag, a pair of shoes, two pairs of socks, two T-shirts, two pens, one notebook, and feminine hygiene material.

Project Nanhi Kali, through regular engagements with various stakeholders, creates girl-friendly ecosystems in underserved communities in India where these girls are empowered to realise their full potential. As part of their Christmas celebrations, Heavens Portfolio continued their heartwarming tradition of inspiring young minds. In December 2024, they took 40 bright and curious Nanhi Kalis on an exposure visit to the Nehru Science Centre, where wonder met learning in the most magical way. The day was filled with wide-eyed amazement, joyful laughter, and a contagious spark of curiosity as the girls explored science through hands-on exhibits. This built beautifully on their 2023 celebration when the team visited a school in Mumbai. They engaged with nearly 100 young girls, organised a captivating magic show, and spread festive joy through thoughtful Christmas gifts.

Another organisation Heavens Portfolio works with is Punlaan School. This Philippines-based technical-vocational institution

offers scholarship programs for underprivileged young women. The school is dedicated to training and empowering young women to join and excel in service-oriented professions. By doing so, Punlaan School recognises the value of person-centred care, as well as a commitment to integrity and excellence in the service industry. The school pioneered the Dual Training System for the Hotel and Restaurant industry in the Philippines, and has gained trust in the hospitality and culinary industries. It is now expanding its reach to the healthcare field through its pharmacy and healthcare services programmes.

Since 1975, Punlaan School has transformed the lives of hundreds of Filipino women through holistic education and training. On its 50th Founding Anniversary in May 2025, the school launched a year-long celebration dedicated to commemorating the school’s rich history. The school continuously weaves and creates impact through collaborations with its students and alumnae, staff, partners, and benefactors. The interconnectedness of each and every person in the history of Punlaan, including its initiatives held in collaboration with Heavens Portfolio, continues to transform the lives of women in the Philippines.

The Punlaan School in the Philippines trains young, underprivileged women so that they can excel in service-oriented careers.

BRITISH HERITAGE,Reimagined

Travail the lush landscapes of England and Wales on The Britannic Explorer, A Belmond Train.

Travelling by rail evokes mystique. The languid pace is comparable to stepping back to a simpler era, when the journey was as important as arriving at one’s destination. This age of slow travel is given a fresh take with the introduction of the Britannic Explorer, A Belmond Train. It captures the essence and the history of rail travel in Britain, with each journey designed to evoke the heritage of rail travel in the 21st century.

The Britannic Explorer also brings onto the tracks a new spirit of British culture, shown by the nation’s new generation of cultural savants and creatives. This results in travel experiences befitting the most exacting connoisseurs, with journeys traversing the landscapes of England and Wales that blend into thousand-year-old cities and quaint towns.

In the recently revealed cars, modern British design comes into focus, while award-winning chef Simon Rogan lends his skills and creativity to craft dishes from locally sourced ingredients and produce. Meanwhile, chef Sven-Hanson Britt leads

the culinary teams onboard. Both chefs worked together closely to create a true farm-to-fork culinary experience in the train’s two dining cars. In addition, the Britannic Explorer’s carriages feature artworks and artifacts sourced from Britain’s leading cultural tastemakers.

Each journey on the Britannic Explorer departs from London’s Victoria Station. Three distinct three-night routes are offered. Guests travel through Cornwall’s nature-scapes, the Lake District, and Wales. At each destination, guided day explorations of the areas are offered, designed to reflect each region’s culture, beauty and history. In the evenings, guests return onboard to savour cocktails at the train’s bar and Rogan’s signature dishes.

Accommodation options on the Britannic Explorer comprise Grand Suites – Juniper, Valerian, and Elder – with colour schemes of vibrant reds, calming greens and baby blue. Each space comprises a double bed, wardrobes, a dining table, armchair, sofa, and marble-clad en-suite with shower. These opulent Grand Suites

utilise materials spanning brass, oak, velvet, antique mirrors, and reeded glass, all of which evoke the charms of English country gardens in full bloom. Guests in these suites enjoy the assistance of personal butlers; in-cabin dining; a complimentary spa treatment for each guest; as well as private arrival and departure transfers.

Within the second suite category, guests have day beds that transform into luxurious beds. Interiors include wallpaper designs by Luke Edward Hall, which blend seamlessly with the changing countryside vistas as the Britannic Explorer makes its way.

Acclaimed chef and restaurateur Rogan, progenitor of the farm-to-fork trend, replicates the culinary mastery of his three-Michelin-starred restaurant L’Enclume, which is located on a farm in Cumbria where he resides. Emphasis is placed on season-appropriate dishes, with the stars of the menus being the best of British produce. Guests can look forward to tasting Chef Rogan’s cuisine for breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas, and dinners during their journeys.

Wellness and rejuvenation onboard the Britannic Explorer come courtesy of Wildsmith. Each treatment is a medley of ingredients from nature matched by science. These include a series of exclusive treatments designed to harmonise the body’s circadian rhythm through the application of pure essential oils and massage skills. Regardless of which treatment guests choose, each offers a journey inward to relaxation and calm, and outward, as the train covers tracks forming Britain’s transportation backbone.

Traveling on the Britannic Explorer is as much about appreciating fine cuisine or taking to the Wellness Suite on board as it is meeting new friends. At the train’s (social) heart, the Observation Car, where the bar is located, guests can order an artisanal gin cocktail, a refreshing craft ale, or a glass of champagne. Meals are enjoyed at the Malva and Samphire Dining Cars that are open from morning to late at night. Both spaces feature design elements including herbs, roots, and flowers upon which British gastronomy found its roots. Guests are given opportunities for reflection and repast amidst rattan panels, and flowershaped lights that evoke past and present.

WHERE THE FUTURE MEETS

Discover the Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, a celebrated hotel reborn at the edge of the Black Forest.

In the summer of 2025, Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, a flagship property of the esteemed Oetker Collection, will reveal its significant renovation – a project that updated the hotel while respecting its history. As one of Germany’s most established hotels, Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, located within the spa town of Baden-Baden, aims to attract discerning travellers to its setting beside the Black Forest. Affectionately known simply as “Brenners” by regular guests, this property has long practiced the art of European grand hospitality, a tradition it continues to refine. The relaunch highlights both the style and history of the estate –a blend of past, present, and future – reflected not only in its hotel services but also in its spa and medical facilities. The renovation

and updates ensure that while incorporating contemporary luxury, the hotel’s history is preserved and celebrated, offering guests a historical experience alongside comfort.

The hotel, established in 1872, is rooted in a history of hospitality that has welcomed a variety of guests, from royalty and statesmen to international figures. Its Beaux Arts architectural style is respected in the 2025 updates, which introduce recent luxury amenities designed to appeal to the modern traveller while honouring its heritage.

The captivating transformation of its interiors was expertly spearheaded by Frankfurt-based design firm MM Design. This was under the inspired direction of Countess Bergit Douglas,

THE ANCIENT WOODS

daughter of the venerable Rudolf-August Oetker. Countess Douglas had previously overseen other projects at Brenners ParkHotel & Spa, including restaurant designs and the renovation of Villa Stéphanie in 2015. Her refined aesthetic vision underscores the hotel’s character – a blend of understated luxury and comfort. This design philosophy is also seen at its sister property, Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, reflecting Oetker Collection’s commitment to quality and timeless style.

The 79 rooms and suites at Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa feature 27 different design concepts, with each intended to be unique, elegant, and timeless. Countess Douglas personally curated their fabrics and furnishings, ensuring each design

complements the building’s original architectural vision. The accommodations include two different bathroom designs, each finished with marble stones cut from a single block –a detail reflecting the hotel’s attention to craftsmanship. This technique creates a flawlessly smooth marble finish that subtly highlights the quality of the space. The thoughtful integration of Dornbracht ReCrafted fittings ensures that classic fittings are renewed through the skill of artisans, combining traditional work with sustainability.

Throughout the building, historical elements such as staircases, original doors, and window frames have been preserved and integrated into the updated space. The original

19th-century hidden brickwork on the east side was recently uncovered – a detail marking the first time it has been seen in the hotel’s history, offering a tangible link to its origins. Structural considerations included the retention of original 19th century wooden beams, which were reinforced to maintain architectural integrity. The timber used was sourced locally from sustainable forestry in the Black Forest, thus highlighting commitment to environmental responsibility and conservation of local resources.

Positioned at the entrance of the Lichtentaler Allee, a park and arboretum central to Baden-Baden, Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa is

a gateway to the Black Forest, offering guests access to its natural areas and outdoor activities. Accessible via a two-hour train journey from Paris to nearby Strasbourg, the property remains a place for relaxation, dining, and where one may enjoy a sense of refinement. Baden-Baden is a town with a history of culture and thermal tradition, where historic style meets contemporary aspects. It is home to Germany’s established casino, a building designed to resemble the style of French castles.

The nearby Black Forest National Park covers 10,062 hectares of varied terrain – a landscape that provides a habitat for an

estimated 10,000 animal species – and is important for its ecological role and appeal to nature enthusiasts. It offers 1,060 kilometres of hiking trails, including vineyard routes, alongside 630 kilometres of cycling paths, and 10 lakes providing quiet spots amidst nature. A popular activity involves a journey through the Black Forest in a vehicle from the hotel’s ‘Brenners Fleet’: a VW Samba ‘Oskar’ or a VW Beetle ‘Herbie’, allowing for a personal experience that connects guests with the region.

Clockwise from above: the Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa is located in BadenBaden and surrounded by the majesty of the Black Forest; the hotel’s Prestige Junior Suite; the Fritz & Felix Restaurant serves a wide variety of international specialities.

UNDER THE

Exploring Le Sirenuse’s masterful blend of art, luxury, and an almost secret bar.

POSITANO

SUN

Seventy-four years ago, after the Second World War, the Sersale siblings were at their family’s summer home in Positano, then a fishing and farming community. They decided to open their residence to guests as a small luxury hotel. This venture quickly became one of the area’s notable seaside hotels with a loyal clientele. Le Sirenuse, named after the Siren Isles (or Li Galli), opened in 1951 with eight rooms. The hotel’s terrace, offering views of Positano’s houses and the islands, became a central feature.

In 1953, American writer John Steinbeck, later a Nobel Prize winner, described the location and hotel in a Harper’s Bazaar article. “We went to the Sirenuse, an old family house converted into a first-class hotel, spotless and cool, with grape arbours over its outside dining rooms,” Steinbeck wrote. “Every room has its little balcony and looks out over the blue sea to the islands of the sirens from which those ladies sang so sweetly.”

Today, Le Sirenuse has evolved into a 58-suite hotel combining five-star luxury with the atmosphere of a private home in a remarkable location. Interiors feature European antiques and Neapolitan paintings, selected by the late Franco Sersale. A globetrotter and amateur photographer, Sersale returned to Positano in 1990 and oversaw the hotel’s refurbishment. This included redesigning the pool terrace and La Sponda restaurant, followed by upgrades to the guest suites. The hotel now includes the Le Sirenuse Spa, designed by Italian architect Gae Aulenti.

Dining at Le Sirenuse is a journey in itself. La Sponda restaurant remains a cornerstone, serving dishes deeply rooted in the region’s rich culinary heritage, with each bite a taste of the Campania coast. There is also Aldo’s, a cocktail bar and seafood grill featuring local produce. The Don’t Worry Music Bar, a drinks-only spot, was recently refurbished in the former living room of the Sersale villa, paying tribute to artist Martin Creed’s neon installation.

Art is present throughout Le Sirenuse, reflecting Franco Sersale’s aesthetic vision. His legacy continues with his son Antonio and daughter-in-law Carla, both of whom launched the Artists at Le Sirenuse contemporary art programme in 2015 with British curator Silka Rittson-Thomas. The latest installation by Swiss artist Caroline Bachmann features 20 seascapes. These depict views of the Li Galli islands from the hotel over an imaginary 24-hour period.

Bachmann used Room 65 as her workspace. From this vantage point, the setting captures the unique beauty of Positano’s “vertical town” clinging to the cliffs, the endless expanse of the sea beyond, and the evocative outline of the Li Galli islands on

the horizon. Working initially from pencil sketches, Bachmann meticulously captured the subtle interplays of light and shadow, the ever-changing cloud formations, the rhythmic patterns of the waves, and the delicate shifts in colour that paint the sky and sea throughout the day and night.

Upon returning to her studio, Bachmann made a deliberate artistic choice: to depict the islands in a series of tondos. This circular format, a shape favoured by Italian artists during the Renaissance, adds a timeless quality to her contemporary observations. The result is a stunning collection of 20 oil paintings, each measuring 30 cm in diameter and framed in a burnt sienna.

The series – titled ‘Le Sirenuse I–XX, 2025’ – is displayed at the Don’t Worry Music Bar. The works are arranged chronologically, starting with midnight in the centre of the north wall and moving clockwise through the day. These paintings are situated around Creed’s neon installation Don’tWorry (2016) in the bar, which feels like a secret – a hidden gem within the gem that is Le Sirenuse.

LEGENDS BY THE LAKE

Explore two of Lake Como’s most alluring hotels – from a reimagined count’s residence to a century-old grande dame, where history whispers and modern luxury mesmerises.

International acclaim arrived at Passalacqua when the property took the number one spot in the World’s 50 Best Hotels listing in 2023. At the heart of its success is dedicated curation of the guest experience, while respecting and cherishing the hotel’s heritage. This 24-key hotel by Lake Como comprises a villa, an ancient palazzo, and the dreamy garden-perched Casa al Lago.

Passalacqua was the former residence of Count Lucini Passalacqua, and boasts a guest list composed of the who’s who of recent and not-so-recent world history. These include Napoleon Bonaparte, Winston Churchill, and Vincenzo Bellini (who also has a cocktail to his name). Bellini composed some of his most illustrious works at the property, such as La Norma, La Straniera, and La Sonnambula

Nowadays, this legendary hotel is owned by the De Santis family, owner of the equally fabulous Grand Hotel Tremezzo, which has been part of Lake Como’s social fabric for generations. With dedication and a deep respect for its past, the owners restored Passalacqua, selecting each design aspect with care and consideration.

Within the Palazzo, there are eight well-appointed rooms featuring walls of jewel hues, the prettiest Venetian silk ceiling

lamps, and ancient oak trusses. Meanwhile, the Villa’s 12 rooms and suites – with their high ceilings adorned with stucco and fresco, as well as Murano chandeliers – impart a sense of the dramatic in these exquisite accommodations. Casa al Lago, with four rooms and junior suites, is situated in the first terrace by the estate’s verdant grounds.

Passalacqua is a feast of sight and sound thanks to its immaculate garden terraces, gushing fountains, and trees that have grown for centuries. Activity-focused guests, however, will also be happy to know that the hotel features 21st-century facilities such as an outdoor pool, an indoor pool that is directly connected to the spa, an open-air gym set in an olive grove, and a tennis court by the storied Lake Como.

The hotel has hosted generations of guests in the century since its opening in 1910. Even as the world changes, the Grand Hotel Tremezzo’s timeless beauty is legendary. This family-owned hotel is an Art Nouveau

Palace with state-of-the-art facilities and steals hearts at first glance. Its 80 rooms and suites recall sophisticated interiors, framed by views of the lake beyond and of the floral-strewn park.

The Park View rooms connect guests with nature beyond the hotel’s walls, while Lake View rooms overlook the star of the show, Lake Como. For a touch of grandeur, the Historic Suites are an aesthetic step back to the past; the Rooftop Suites, with their sprawling terraces, each have an indulgent outdoor jacuzzi.

The hotel’s gardens, too, are aesthetic highlights featuring seven acres of breathtaking beauty by Lake Como’s shoreline. Guests here attune themselves to a different pace – relaxing at the hotel’s private beach or Water on the Water pool as well as the Flowers Pool are gateways to pure uninterrupted pleasure. There are also tennis courts and water sports facilities for sportsminded guests. Culinary excellence shines across five distinct dining venues: La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi, showcasing signature dishes by the pioneer of modern Italian cuisine; L’Escale Trattoria & Wine Bar, serving Italian classics with a creative twist in a relaxed setting; Da Giacomo al Lago, which perfectly combines the palace’s beachside ambiance with refined seafood by Giacomo Milano; T Pizza, which is nestled in the verdant park; and T Bar, which is ideal for crafted cocktails from aperitif to nightcap.

Villa Sola Cabiati – managed by Grand Hotel Tremezzo since 2017 – is one of Lake Como’s most enchanting historic residences and a splendid example of 18th-century Italian elegance. Once the summer retreat of the noble Serbelloni family, the villa is renowned for its perfectly preserved frescoes, antique furnishings, and ornate stuccowork. Surrounded by manicured Italian gardens and offering breathtaking views of the lake, it remains a symbol of a refined aristocratic life. Today, Villa Sola Cabiati opens its doors to those seeking a truly exclusive experience, where history, art, and beauty come together in a timeless setting. A stay at Villa Sola Cabiati, according to the hotel’s insiders, is “the ultimate luxury vacation on Lake Como”.

A TUSCAN IDYLL

Experience beauty amidst rolling hills, ancient villages, and a haven of rustic Italian charm in Castelfalfi.

The Tuscan countryside, a source of inspiration for films and books, finds a captivating expression at Castelfalfi, a haven where history, nature, and luxury converge. Nestled in a region of undeniable charm, the property comprises a five-star hotel, villas, and cuisine that has inspired countless cookbooks and television programmes. Castelfalfi is likened to a living village where time slows, inviting guests to discover a sense of home. The subtle fragrance of rosemary, the distant sound of church bells, and the warmth of the locals create an atmosphere and a setting guests would long to return to.

Embedded within Tuscany’s rolling hills, Castelfalfi offers opportunities to explore this enchanting region. The ancient village, part of an agricultural estate spanning more than 1,100 hectares, is situated between Pisa and Florence. Visitors are greeted by scenes reminiscent of works of art: oil-paintings depicting road-lined cypress trees, verdant olive groves, and heritage vineyards that leave a lingering impression.

Castelfalfi’s history, spanning millennia, began with the Etruscans more than 2,000 years ago. The castle encircling the village was originally a Lombard military outpost known as Castrum Faolfi. It eventually evolved into the portmanteau, Castelfalfi. The Church of San Floriano was built in the village around the year 1000, and in 1421, it came

under the jurisdiction of the Chapter of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. In 1230, Castelfalfi was placed under the rule of San Miniato al Tedesco, and later acquired by the Gaetani family. After Francesco Gaetani’s death in 1480, Lorenzo de’ Medici “Il Magnifico” divided the estate among four heirs, including Giovanfrancesco. In 2021, the current ownership transformed Castelfalfi into its current luxury hotel, capturing the essence of nature, tradition, and heartfelt hospitality.

Guests are welcomed into an environment within which elegance and authenticity blend seamlessly. The hotel includes the main building, where contemporary design harmonises with La Tabaccaia, a historic 20th-century structure reflecting Tuscan style, and exclusive villas nestled in the estate’s hills. Castelfalfi is a setting that is both historical and contemporary. The hotel’s 146 rooms blend modernity with Tuscan tradition. Craftsmanship and refined materials are showcased at the Stefano Ricci La Rocca Penthouse Suite. It was created by the eponymous designer of whom the suite is named after. This 307 sq m penthouse features two levels, sublime interiors, a panoramic terrace, and a jacuzzi. Meanwhile, the estate’s villas

offer a residential character, where luxury and nature merge. Restored villas and ready-to-move-in residences are available for guests to own, allowing them to truly call Castelfalfi ‘home’.

The RAKxa Wellness Spa, located within Castelfalfi, bases its wellness concept on ancient Thai wisdom PHOTOGRAPHY:

enhanced with technology. Guests can also enjoy spa treatments using locally sourced ingredients grown under the Tuscan sun. The result is an oasis of tranquillity offering physical and spiritual restoration. Treatments include massages, sensorial journeys, meditation spaces, and experiences inspired by Castelfalfi’s setting.

Beyond the hotel and the villas, Castelfalfi offers a range of activities and experiences that allow guests to immerse themselves in the Tuscan lifestyle. The estate boasts a championship golf course, providing enthusiasts with the opportunity to play amidst the rolling hills and picturesque landscapes. For those seeking culinary adventures, cooking classes offer a hands-on experience in preparing traditional Tuscan dishes using fresh, local ingredients. Wine tastings allow guests to savour the region’s renowned wines, while guided tours explore the surrounding countryside, revealing hidden gems and cultural treasures.

Whether indulging in a relaxing spa treatment, teeing off on the golf course, or embarking on a culinary journey, Castelfalfi provides escapism at its finest, where guests create lasting memories in an evocative setting.

BEYOND FIELDS OF LAVENDER

Terre Blanche, a 750-acre resort, unfolds with Michelin-starred dining, championship golf, and masterclasses in eco-luxury.

Terre Blanche encapsulates Provence’s allure and the glamour of Cote d’Azur in a single destination. A premier property in the South of France, this 750-acre luxury resort exemplifies the highest levels of hospitality set in the wonders of nature. The property features 115 suites and villas, four restaurants (among which is the Michelin-starred Le Faventia), a gorgeous infinity pool, a double-level luxury spa with both an indoor pool and an outdoor vitality pool, tennis courts, and two 18hole championship golf courses. It also features a Kid’s Club (for ages two to 12) as well as a private children’s pool.

Set within the undulating hills of Provence, Terre Blanche is recognised as a premier address for golf in Europe. For the past eight years, its place among the top three golf resorts in Continental Europe highlights its enduring excellence. The resort secured the number one spot in 2015 and received the second-place ranking in Golf World (UK)’s ‘Top 100 Golf Resorts in Continental Europe’ for 2022. Golf authorities such as LeadingCourses. com also rank it highly among France’s best courses. Beyond the fairways, the Albatros Golf Performance Centre, outfitted with advanced technology, offers golfers tools to elevate their play.

The experience here extends to its distinct dining options. At the acclaimed Le Faventia, diners overlook timeless local villages and the slopes of the Pays de Fayence, enjoying menus built around Provence’s seasonal harvest. Alternatively, Le Gaudina provides the relaxed elegance of a brasserie, serving delicate yet refined Mediterranean-style cuisine. Meanwhile, other establishments such as the Clubhouse, Les Caroubiers, the poolside Le Tousco, and Le Patio are perfect dining establishments between a game of golf, a swim, or an afternoon of pure relaxation.

Terre Blanche’s architecture and interiors were harmoniously honed to complement the landscape in which the property is located. White stone, hewn from Provence’s quarries, and red clay from the area create the earthy terracotta features in its suites and villas. The resort’s philosophy is based on respect for the environment and the verdant natural world that surrounds it. Here, nature is

both celebrated and conserved. Through thoughtful investments, Terre Blanche ensures that the surrounding areas are protected and vibrantly maintained for generations to come. The bordering woodlands have been safeguarded, mainly due to the resort’s regular assessments on environmental impact. An eco-friendly watering system was implemented to ensure optimal plant survival. The flora and fauna of the woodlands have also been untampered, including the herd of local donkeys that still call the area home.   Today, Terre Blanche is an environmentally conscious luxury hotel

and golf centre from which guests can experience the beauty of Provence and the Riviera. Embedded within a protected park, Terre Blanche is arguably one of Europe’s most captivating locations, in part due to the deep jade waters in the stretch of Mediterranean coastline nearby. Inland, mountain villages such as Trigonce, Aiguines, and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie impart rustic charm to sublime settings. When lavender is in bloom, the Valensole high plains are a veritable canvas of purple stretching for miles.

Hikers will delight in their explorations of the Fayence region and the Esterel

There is also Lac de Saint-Cassien, a sprawling body of water spanning more than 1,037 acres, where swimmers and fishermen converge. Then, over at the Fayence aerodrome, gliding lessons are offered. Guests can literally fly over Terre Blanche, Lac de Saint-Cassien, and the lavender fields – a pure and uninterrupted meditation on beauty and nature. For machine-based flying, helicopters leave from Terre Blanche, taking in the sights of the coast and the Mediterranean islands along with the hills and the mountains inland. Boat excursions are also possible with days spent cruising the famed coastlines of the Riviera, starting at Cannes or Antibes, and arriving at the most glamorous spot of them all, Saint-Tropez.

THE ART OF Elevation

Explore the art that redefines the guest experience at CERVO Mountain Resort, featuring the works of artists that imprint life-inspired pieces onto equally arresting mountain vistas.

Beyond its fundamental perceptions, art holds a profound capacity to serve as expression, reflection, or discourse. At CERVO Mountain Resort, art becomes a dynamic medium through which life itself is experienced and interpreted. The resort is currently showcasing an exhibition that truly transforms CERVO into a living installation, deliberately using art in its various forms to convey the personal narratives of its creators and to resonate deeply with the viewers who encounter it. Integrated thoughtfully within CERVO’s elegant and sleek architectural spaces, the compelling works by Christian Tagliavini, Helga Zumstein, Maja Juzwiak, and Adam Stamp add captivating layers of meaning and visual interest, and are strategically placed to spark genuine conversation and contemplation among the guests who inhabit these environments.

Step into the fascinating world crafted by Christian Tagliavini, an accomplished Swiss artist who operates at the intriguing intersection where the technical precision of photography meets the evocative depth of painting. Inspired by the rich

tradition of classic portrait painting, he uniquely depicts these timeless subjects as striking and memorable photographs. “I wanted to go beyond pure photography and create my own stories,” Tagliavini says, articulating his driving creative impulse.

His artistic method is marked by meticulous precision and unwavering dedication. Every single detail – from the carefully controlled lighting that illuminates his subjects to the bespoke, tailor-made costumes adorning his models – is a result of deliberate choice. In his captivating ‘Circesque’ series, two significant works from which are prominently displayed at CERVO, Tagliavini chooses to capture the quiet, charged moments just before the main performance unfolds. He reveals his intention: “I didn’t want to show the flawless perfection of the circus, but the tension beforehand, the fear of failure, the willpower to get up again after a fall,” he shares.

Turning to the art of Helga Zumstein, we observe how the seemingly ordinary daily routines of everyday people, encountered in familiar settings such as bustling cafés,

Christian Tagliavini is one of the artists whose works are currently on display within CERVO Mountain Resort.

sun-drenched beaches, or local hair salons, are skilfully elevated. Zumstein transforms these commonplace scenes, imbuing them with a fresh perspective and a heightened level of significance that encourages a second look. As a relatively late starter in her artistic career, she embarked on her formal training at the School of Applied Arts in Bern at the age of 40. Since that time, she has dedicated her work to exploring and highlighting the small, often overlooked moments in life, and achieved notable acclaim for her ability to find extraordinary depth and meaning in the ordinary. “For me, art is a process, a way of making the ordinary visible in a special way,” she says, describing her unique approach.   Photographer Maja Juzwiak, approaching her craft from a distinct perspective, powerfully fuses her artistic expression with pressing environmental themes. Her work is often centred on profound ideas of impermanence, which directly confronts humanity’s often fraught and complex relationship with the natural environment. Juzwiak, who

is originally from Brazil but has called Switzerland home for more than 15 years, describes her artistic purpose with clarity: “I wanted to use art to make people think.” She elaborates on this, adding that her fundamental intention is to leverage art as a potent tool for both environmental education and raising crucial awareness.

Juzwiak’s impactful work displayed at CERVO includes striking images depicting Zermatt’s melting glaciers as seen from the sky, as captured with her drone. These images, while undoubtedly visually arresting in their stark beauty, simultaneously function as a compelling warning. They serve as powerful visual documentation of the undeniable and concerning retreat of these vital glaciers. Yet, Juzwiak’s ultimate aim,

This page: Maja Juzwiak’s breathtaking photographs, also on display in CERVO Mountain Resort, shows the melting glaciers of Zermatt.

she emphasises, is to inspire action and reflection among viewers and not to instil fear. “I hope that CERVO guests will pause to admire the beauty of nature and reflect on the impact they have on this world,” she says, articulating hope for a meaningful response from those who see her work. Her significant project is undertaken in aid of the organisation Protect Our Winters Switzerland, an active group that campaigns tirelessly for climate protection.

American artist Adam Stamp contributes to the exhibition by skilfully merging the disciplines of painting, sculpture, and conceptual art in his diverse body of work. His pieces often form intriguing interplays between pervasive themes of hospitality, the nature of service, and the delicate, often nuanced balance between giving and receiving.

At CERVO, Stamp developed and created a specific series of works during his productive time spent there as an Artist in Residence. These unique pieces draw

inspiration from the nostalgic aesthetics of vintage ski advertisements, but are infused with a contemporary perspective and a fresh, modern twist. They feature engaging vignettes depicting moments of love, shared drinks, and the inevitable falls that come with the skiing experience, all of which collectively reflect the vibrant and distinct vibes of the resort itself: playful, undoubtedly stylish, and beautifully imprinted with a sense of nostalgia.

The core challenge for Stamp, he explains, was the process of effectively integrating his art into the lively and dynamic scene of a functioning hotel environment. This challenge directly inspired him to create works specifically designed to seamlessly blend into and complement the existing architectural and interior spaces of the resort. “I hope they bring a bit of joy and a different texture to guests who encounter them,” he says. “The handmade element was important to me to mix with the design and rustic chic that CERVO is known for.”

Artist Helga Zumstein has the uncanny ability to turn everyday scenes into stunning works of art.

LANSERHOF’S LONGEVITY CODE

This wellness clinic in Germany and Austria pioneers a science-backed path to extended vitality that recalibrates the very concept of aging.

Longevity in the present day is no longer wishful thinking. The goal of living longer is now possible through focused approaches based on science, medicine and holistic modalities. In the past four decades, Lanserhof, a leading institution for holistic health, has made tremendous discoveries in healthcare, regeneration, and optimisation. It is a bridge that connects individuals seeking a better quality of life and longer lifespans with pioneering advancements in modern medicine and rejuvenation. Its mission: to sustainably extend lifespans along with health spans, based on the premise that every extra year is composed of vitality and well-being.

How are these goals achieved? Regular calorie restriction, a balanced diet, exercise, restorative sleep, meaningful social connections, preventive diagnostics, nutritional supplements, and appropriate medications are all fundamental pillars of longevity medicine. These elements form the foundation of the LANSERHOF CONCEPT, coupled with the Lanserhof fasting cure at its core. It draws upon the principles of naturopathy, orthomolecular medicine, psychology, chrono medicine, and state-of-the-art medicine.

“Our Lanserhof cure is more than a temporary intervention – it is the beginning of a lifelong journey of self-care and well-being,” explains Dr. Christian Harisch, CEO of the Lanserhof Group. “We go far beyond symptom management to offer a holistic approach that harmonises body, mind, and soul.”

One of the central elements of the Lanserhof experience is a deep understanding of each guest’s unique genetic predisposition, combined with intensive support from Lanserhof experts to help guests take control of their own health. Through comprehensive diagnostics and personalised consultations, guests gain valuable insights into their genetic makeup, laying the foundation for targeted measures to reduce health risks and increase life expectancy.

To fully comprehend how lifespans can be extended, it is essential to understand why humans age in the first place. “Although genetic predisposition cannot be changed, significant improvements in lifestyle habits can lead to healthier and slower aging,” says Dr. Jan Stritzke, Medical Director at Lanserhof Sylt. He adds that lifestyle factors play a vital role in shaping longevity. This is achieved by paying attention to diet, exercise, stress management, and social connections, all of which could potentially add more healthy years to life. But this begets the

question: ‘How can I add as many healthy years as possible to my life?’ Dr. Stritzke’s replies: “By listening carefully, conducting thorough medical examinations, and using state-of-the-art diagnostics, we aim to provide answers so that individual goals can be achieved in the best possible way.”

The longevity therapies practiced at Lanserhof are designed to precisely understand the biological causes of aging and to consistently slow them down. At Lanserhof, the biological causes of aging are pinpointed through longevity therapies based on advanced diagnostics, such as the scientifically accredited ‘Hallmarks of Aging’ with which Lanserhof experts analyse each guest’s aging processes. “We can stop time, and we can even turn back the clock a little with consistent diagnostics and therapy,” Dr. Stritzke says. “This is longevity medicine. It is an independent, highly scientific field with well-established, sophisticated therapies as well as treatment methods.”

Guests begin their stay at Lanserhof with a full-body check that identifies their personal physical weaknesses. This could range from chronic intestinal inflammation to mitochondrial dysfunction, both of which form the extensive list of potential triggers of premature aging, as described by the ‘Hallmarks of Aging’. “This allows us to better understand the individual processes of aging and to treat them in a more effective way,” Dr. Stritzke explains. “This is fundamentally the new aspect of longevity medicine.”

At the heart of the Lanserhof philosophy for a long and healthy life is nutrition. Here, culinary offerings are designed to nourish and rejuvenate from within. Dr. Stritzke says that nutrition and exercise are essential components for an effective longevity lifestyle. He adds: “We need to start living like huntergatherers again. Exercise plays a particularly important role. We need to move every day. The foundation of disease prevention is muscle mass. Then comes nutrition, which is ideally structured to include longer periods of fasting.”

The art and the science of longevity at Lanserhof encompass more than physical vitality. A range of holistic modalities for body and mind promote mental clarity, emotional resilience, and spiritual well-being. Guests are invited to join mindfulness sessions, yoga classes, and immersive nature experiences, sparking emotional and mental renewal. “We empower our guests to reach their full potential and to rediscover the joy of a healthy, fulfilling life,” Dr. Stritzke says.

This and facing pages: besides cutting-edge medical treatments and services, Lanserhof guests also have access to a wide range of luxurious amenities and facilities.

Villa Peduzzi’s garden (pictured above) setting spans 4.5 acres – a rarity on Lake Como – thus offering expansive grounds to wander and relax, making it a location well worth revisiting. Each villa also has its own fully dedicated service team to cater to every whim and fancy of guests.

The Charleston: Heritage And Luxury Woven Into Galle Fort’s History

The Charleston, an art deco building in Sri Lanka’s Galle Fort that was built in 1924, was meticulously refurbished to exacting detail (pictured on facing page). Original details were preserved and reinstated by expert artisans where more extensive restoration work was required, showcasing a commitment to historical accuracy and craftsmanship. As an integral part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the property is imbued with a profound sense of heritage, which permeates the guest experience, making a stay here not only luxurious but also deeply steeped in the rich tapestry of Sri Lankan history and culture. Formerly the residence of the Sri Lankan Ambassador to various countries, The Charleston, with its nine bedrooms, was also previously an embassy building, adding a layer of diplomatic significance to its storied past.

Galle, a historic city built in 1588 by the Portuguese, was later extensively fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century, which resulted in a unique blend of architectural styles and cultural influences. The fort, in the present day, is known for its vibrant culture and deep respect for its past, with regular events and activities held that celebrate its heritage. The Charleston’s prime location within the fort, overlooking the rampart and the sea, strategically places the property at the heart of the area’s captivating history, offering guests an immersive experience.

The extensive three-year restoration project was overseen by A00, an architecture and interior design firm based in Sri Lanka and Shanghai, demonstrating a commitment to local expertise and preservation. Restoration work was carried out by skilled local artisans and workers, ensuring the authenticity and integrity of the restoration. Locally sourced materials, including those from the Indian subcontinent, were thoughtfully used throughout the project.

Guests staying at The Charleston enjoy the rare privilege of waking up to awe-inspiring views of the city and the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean. Room categories such as the Terrace Room feature private terraces and serene garden views, thus creating a private oasis for relaxation. The Courtyard Rooms offer fourposter king-sized beds, adding a touch of regal elegance, as well as a dining area, which provides a comfortable space to unwind and reflect on the day’s sightseeing adventures. Meanwhile, the award-winning Charlie’s Bistro & Bar, Galle Fort’s latest place to be see and be seen, is the ideal vantage point to catch Sri Lanka’s legendary sunsets.

SINGAPORE’S DESIGN DESTINATION

A 19-storey venue, COMO Orchard is where architecture, fashion, wellness, and gastronomy subtly yet stylishly meet.

Lifestyle brand COMO, conceived by owner Christina Ong and favoured by fashion insiders and creatives, introduced COMO Orchard on Singapore’s Bideford Road in 2024. This 19-storey destination encompasses the 156-room COMO Metropolitan Singapore. Notably, this urban retreat is the group’s only property in its home country, signalling a homecoming for the hospitality brand renowned for COMO Uma Paro in Bhutan, Bali’s COMO Shambhala, and COMO Metropolitan London.

Within this dynamic space, the COMO Metropolitan Singapore presents an urban retreat, providing 156 rooms designed in classic minimalist fashion that places emphasis on intuitive use of space along with cutting-edge amenities such as its SleepHub technology in COMO Suites. With more than 10 years of scientific research, the SleepHub hones neuroscience and psychoacoustic sound technology to guide minds through optimal sleep cycles. The result – being able to fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake up refreshed by retraining the brain to create natural and healthy sleep patterns.

The innovative device plays low-frequency sound waves that encourage quality sleep, so a person wakes up at an optimal stage of his or her sleep cycle.

COMO Orchard is the epicentre of the COMO lifestyle through its selection of designer fashion, wellness philosophies, and destination restaurants, bars, and cafes. COMO Metropolitan Singapore acts as a social hub for both travellers and locals, complete with a rooftop pool and bar, while Club21 retail spaces showcase curated fashion collections and exclusive collaborations. COMO Shambhala, the group’s pioneering wellness brand, provides an inner city oasis for rejuvenation, offering classes, workshops and multiday programmes.

The culinary offerings at COMO Orchard are a highlight, featuring restaurants and cafes helmed by French pastry chef Cédric Grolet and restaurateur Simon Kim of COTE Korean Steakhouse (with its Michelinstarred establishments in New York and Miami). COMO Cuisine presents a menu inspired by dishes from COMO Hotels and Resorts properties. Rooted in culinary traditions and generational recipes, these

dishes deliver soulful flavours, exemplified by staples such as Yellow Fin Tuna Tataki Bowl, Lobster Biryani, and Pad Thai. The menu celebrates Singapore’s rich cultural tapestry, with options ranging from rich laksa to flame-wok dishes, tandoori, and lobster rolls. Designed by Paola Navone, the COMO Cuisine space also incorporates a stylish bar serving cocktails.

Adding to the allure is Cédric Grolet Singapore, the pastry chef’s fourth outlet, following his acclaimed addresses in Paris (La Pâtisserie du Meurice par Cédric Grolet, Cédric Grolet Opera) and London (Cédric Grolet at The Berkeley). Grolet – celebrated for his accolades such as World’s Best Pastry Chef from Grand Tables du Monde and World’s 50 Best Restaurants – crafts edible works of art inspired by the beauty of fruits and flowers. Cédric Grolet Singapore offers breakfast, afternoon tea, and takeaway options, showcasing desserts, pastries, sandwiches, and a special Singapore-exclusive tea menu.

COMO Orchard also marks the first international location for COTE Korean Steakhouse (from New York City and

Miami) by restaurateur Simon Kim. COTE Singapore presents a unique dining experience, blending the interactive elements of South Korean barbecue with the refined ambience of an American steakhouse. The restaurant features prime beef cuts, a James Beard Foundation-nominated wine list, and a selection of creative cocktails. Modellus Novus, a leading New York architectural firm, designed the interiors, creating an intimate and sophisticated setting.

The overall design of COMO Orchard is a collaboration between Italian architect Paola Navone (Otto Studio); Japanese interior design consultant Koichiro Ikebuchi (Atelier Ikebuchi); Norwegian digital artist Thomas Hilland; and Modellus Novus. From its culinary destinations to its fashion offerings, COMO Singapore’s design emphasises thoughtful use of space, integrated technology and COMO’s signature service style. As a result, COMO Singapore serves as both a destination and a meeting place for those who appreciate COMO’s distinctive take on contemporary luxury.

CAPELLA RISING

Across Asia, the Singapore-based hotel group expands its award-winning style of luxury hospitality.

“Each Capella property is inspired by the soul of its destination,” says Cristiano Rinaldi, President of Capella Hotel Group. Within a few years, the Singapore-based luxury group has steadfastly imprinted its unique luxury stamp onto the hearts and minds of global luxury travellers.

Accolades have come in quickly. Awards such as the World’s Best Brand from Travel + Leisure for the second consecutive year, along with Capella Bangkok being lauded as the World’s Best Hotel by World’s 50 Best Hotels in 2024, have placed the group at the top echelons of an industry not unknown for its competitive nature.

“Our expansion strategy reflects three key principles: selecting destinations with rich cultural narratives, partnering with worldrenowned architects who understand our vision of cultural

authenticity, and maintaining an intimate scale across most properties to ensure highly personalised service,” Rinaldi says.

With this in mind, Capella Hotel Group unveils a series of openings in 2025 across Asia, focusing on culturally rich destinations that blend history and modernity elegantly. In the first quarter of 2025, aficionados of the brand discovered Andre Fu Studio’s ode to the Taiwanese capital at Capella Taipei. Located on the picturesque Dunhua North Road, the 86-room hotel centres on the vision of a “modern mansion” – a veritable retreat in the buzzy Songshan area. Here, Fu embarked on both a literal and aesthetic voyage that explores Taipei’s quintessential charms and quirks as depicted in neighbourhoods where the locals work and rest, coupled with the leafy Dunhua North Road that recollects sights in an Occidental city.

Capella Taipei is infused with the spirit of “relaxed luxury”. Think sublimely inspired spaces, ample light shining through floor-to-ceiling windows, and views of iconic architecture such as the Taipei 101 building, as well as majestic mountains that tower in the distance. The property showcases five restaurants, each of which combines to relate a culinary tale of epic proportions. “It is a re-telling of my personal journey discovering Taipei,” Fu explains. “Flânering around local neighbourhoods and wandering into the lush tree-lined Dunhua North Road where the hotel fondly resides, I was absorbed by the poetic environment – an antithesis to the urbanity one might typically perceive of Taipei. My vision translates relaxed luxury into a quietly curated private mansion, incorporating contemporary touches and cultural nuances.”

In Macau, Moinard Bétaille brings their design philosophy to Capella at Galaxy Macau, which opened in the second quarter

of 2025. Described as a 93-room art-filled luxury hideaway, the hotel marries design tropes extracted from Macau’s verdant landscapes and undeniable natural artistry. Highlights include light-rich Sky Villas and suites that capture the city’s highrolling personality and discernment for only the best life has to offer. Interiors speak of the intermingling of PortugueseChinese design schematics emblematic of Macau’s UNESCO World Heritage Site accreditation. At Capella Macau, this sense of history and culture will be brought to the fore with Capella’s signature cultural programming centred on Macau and the integrated development of which the hotel is a part.

Two openings in Japan for the Capella group include Patina Osaka, which was revealed in early May 2025. The 221-key Patina Osaka features the combined architectural mastery of Jun Mitsui & Associates and Strickland, based on Osaka’s revered reputation as Japan’s “City of Water”.

The property is located opposite the historic Osaka Castle and next to Naniwanomiya-ato Park, sparking insightful design conversations between past and present. Guests arrive on the 20th floor overlooking Osaka Castle, while venues such as P72, the property’s central restaurant, embodies Japan’s 72 microseasons, while The Listening Room by OJAS merges intuitive design with luxury touchpoints the Capella Hotel Group has made its own.

Meanwhile, Capella Kyoto opens in the fourth quarter of 2025. It will be an emblem of the country’s culture as depicted through the celebrated lens of Kengo Kuma & Associates as well as Brewin Design Office.

With its 89 rooms, Capella Kyoto is placed in the storied Miyagawa-chō district – a perfect illustration of the ways in

which modern luxury can be symbiotic with Japan’s revered aesthetic nuances. Capella Kyoto blends in harmony with the neighbourhood’s cultural heritage in which the Kenninji Temple has a focal role. Here, the essence of Higashiyama culture is safeguarded with the tenets of Zen Buddhism, wabi-sabi aesthetics, and classic architectural elements such as tatami and Zen gardens given their respected place.

“Design is an emotional journey, not just an aesthetic choice,” Rinaldi says. “With these openings, we’re expanding from eight properties to twelve by the end of 2025, with plans to double our portfolio by 2030. Future projects include a branded residential development in Seoul and hotels in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as well as Tianjin, China.”

The rooms at Patina Osaka (above) and the lounge of Capella Kyoto (below) are equally luxurious but in their own unique aesthetics.

CYCLES OF TIME, AND A RYOKAN

Azumi Setoda offers exclusive bike rides through Ikuchijima.

This page: Azumi Setoda, located on Ikuchijima island, blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comforts and amenities.
Facing page: guests of Azumi Setoda can embark on a guided cycling tour of the Shimanami Kaido.

Azumi Setoda, on Ikuchijima island, is part of a 140-year heritage. This delightful hotel began as the home of an influential salt merchant. Conceived by Aman founder Adrian Zecha, it reimagines Japanese minimalism with a contemporary touch. The soothing guest rooms feature clean lines and traditional materials such as cedar, cypress, washi, and granite, each with its own Zen-inspired outdoor space – whether a balcony, serene garden, or a blend of both – enclosed by traditional Japanese fencing for privacy. As with all of Zecha’s hospitality projects, this endearing ryokan offers guests chances to step back in time while being immersed in the pristine natural environment in which the property is located.

The Shimanami Kaido is central to any bonafide cyclist’s to-do routes, attracting biking enthusiasts from all over the world. The 70-km ride stretches between Onomichi and Imabari presenting a safe and enjoyable journey for cycling enthusiasts of all abilities. It begins at Onomichi, Hiroshima prefecture, with stops at Mukaishima, Innoshima, Ikuchijima, Omishima, Hakatajima, and

Oshima, before finally alighting at Imabari, Ehime Prefecture.

Café hoppers and photography enthusiasts will fixate on the region’s many popular cafés and photo spots while revelling in the area’s unspoilt natural terrain. On each ride, cyclists have access to both beauty and harmony depicted by nature, unfurling across the islands and through bridge-crossings. For the latter, the vistas at Innoshima Bridge will impress even the most jaded traveller. At the end of the ride, bicycles are returned at Azumi Setoda, so guests need not return to their point of origin.

Azumi Setoda guests can also avail themselves of a second cycling tour with a guide. Covering 50-km, cyclists will traverse the region from Onomichi to Setoda (Ikuchijima Island) and Tatara Bridge, which links to Ehime Prefecture. This exclusive tour begins at Onomichi Station, heading to choice locations in Mukaishima and Innoshima, and later continuing along the coastlines of Ikuchijima. The tour’s ultimate destination is Tatara Bridge, known as the world’s longest cable-stayed bridge

when it was completed. After a rest at Tatara Shimanami Park, guests return to Ikuchijima and Azumi Setoda.

Guests can expect delicious and nurturing cuisine to replenish their energies. The food served at Azumi Setoda derives from within a 50-km radius of the property, which amounts to the distance a person can walk in a day. The ryokan’s Chef Akita visits the locations where produce is grown, and the chef has friendships with each producer and his or her offerings. The result: a heightened awareness of Mother Earth’s bounty, and a deep knowledge as to the exact cooking method that will tease out aromas and flavours that are unique to the region.

When it is time to rest, Azumi Setoda’s accommodations are available in four distinct room types within the double floor pavilion, within which a kakine-framed courtyard is embedded. Spaces are inviting and homely, blending traditional ryokan features with modern comforts, including a cypress bathtub in each room. It’s a relaxing finale to an action-packed day taking in the sights of a stunning region that deserves a return visit.

THROUGH THE Decades OF Well-being

Chiva-Som, the beloved wellness haven of celebrities, reveals its latest wellness modalities during its 30th year celebrations.

In the past three decades, few wellness retreats around the world come close to Chiva-Som Hua Hin in Thailand, both in terms of its cult status among international cognoscenti and its comprehensive well-being programmes. Chiva-Som was formed through the vision of its founder, Boonchu Rojanastien. In the past 30 years, the property has welcomed fashion and entertainment trailblazers from Hollywood to Milan, as well as royalty and corporate titans, all of whom have found – and continue to find –sanctuary and rejuvenation in this serene and inimitable part of Thailand.

Krip Rojanastien, Chairman and CEO of Chiva-Som, shares his father Boonchu’s vision. “Chiva-Som continues to embrace the values of wellness, community, and sustainability. Today’s guests are not just seeking a place to stay, but they are also looking for life-enhancing experiences that resonate with their values, especially those to do with nature and local communities,” he says.

In recent years, Chiva-Som has spread its wellness offerings geographically and philosophically. Traditional Arabic and Islamic Medicine (TAIM) is offered at its sister property, Zulal Wellness Resort by Chiva-Som in Qatar, which opened in 2022. Meanwhile, in Hua Hin, the flagship resort introduces new services such as Metabolic Reset, Weather-Responsive Wellness, and Tailored Men’s and Women’s wellness programmes. These initiatives, as with all programmes at Chiva-Som Hua Hin, are centred around a legacy focused on transforming lifestyles of guests and, by doing so, their quality of living. This is achieved by blending traditional wellness philosophies with the latest evidencebased treatments, while taking to heart the holistic well-being for both guests and the planet.

Chiva-Som customises individual retreats and nutrition to support personal wellness goals, health, and preferences for guests of all ages, nurturing the wellbeing of individuals. Practitioners guide and support guests with knowledge and motivation, empowering them to confidently achieve their goals. Amidst verdant greenery and Edenic gardens, Chiva-Som leads its guests on personalised retreats, designed to balance mind, body and spirit, while being dedicated to sustainable practices

that ensure that the well-being of the planet is carefully considered. Here, sustainability is partnered with wellness. This extends across resort operations, ranging from social responsibility and resource management to community enhancement. The goal: to eventually become zero-waste and carbon-neutral in the near future.

Chiva-Som’s Weather-Responsive Wellness helps guests adapt to climate change through evening fitness classes – ideal for avoiding daytime heat – and personalised strategies. The offering includes Skin Cancer Risk Analysis for early detection and prevention. This approach

promotes sustainable wellness routines that align with environmental realities while protecting long-term health and vitality. Meanwhile, the Metabolic Reset is designed for those seeking a deeper transformation. It offers an integrative, science-based pathway for guests transitioning off long-term medication. With a focus on preserving lean muscle mass and encouraging healthy fat loss, this service combines comprehensive health assessments, high-protein nutrient-dense cuisine, and expert guidance to restore vitality and metabolic function.

For those pursuing active aging and optimal performance, longevityfocused services have been expanded with innovative tools and assessments. BlazePod Neuromuscular Training enhances speed, coordination, and agility, catering to all ages and fitness levels. Additionally, the Functional Movement Screening (FMS) and InBody Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis provide advanced insights into physical capacity and body composition, forming the foundation for personalised fitness strategies. ChivaSom’s gym also embraces cutting-edge fitness technology. Additions such as the Aviron Rowing Machine, Concept2 SkiErg, and the ViPR (Vitality, Performance, Reconditioning) system bring variety and precision to cardiovascular training and resistance workouts, promoting strength, endurance, and long-term wellness.

As always, these developments at Chiva-Som reflect its commitment to staying ahead of global wellness trends –thoughtfully integrating innovation with a holistic philosophy that continues to support guests on their personal journeys toward balance and longevity.

During its year-long anniversary celebrations, in April 2025, Chiva-Som Hua Hin hosted a special dinner with menus combining the approaches of Chiva-Som Hua Hin and Zulal Wellness Resort by ChivaSom, along with immersive multi-sensory classes with artist Notep.  Krip Rojanastien says, “Seeing the impact we have made on people’s lives – whether that be in our local communities or in the lives of our guests – is profoundly humbling. It is particularly exciting to see the value we bring guests through the generations. We have seen many returning with their children and grandchildren, who have become a new generation of devotees.”

FROM KUALA LUMPUR TO BEIJING

Both The PuXuan Hotel & Spa and The RuMa Hotel & Residences are refined exercises in understated style and cultural cachet.

The PuXuan Hotel & Spa

The architecture of Beijing is no stranger to the intermingling of new and old, east and west. At The PuXuan Hotel & Spa, these concepts have been brought to life by German architect Ole Scheeren. The structure’s floating and revealing glass exterior nods to the air-like layout of Beijing’s ancient hutong alleys and siheyuan courtyards. The circular ‘pixel’ design element at the base of the structure is a spatial interpretation of the iconic Chinese landscape painting Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains. The hotel, with its modernist design personality, taps fully into the Chinese capital’s vast treasure trove of culture and heritage, while being true to its emblematic to-the-moment luxury touchpoints. Meanwhile, interiors by Shanghai-based design firm MQ-studio offer refined and poetic spaces that are at once contemporary yet faithful to Chinese aesthetic conventions, spanning handcrafted furniture to objets d’art.

The guest arrival experience resembles that of imperial custom and repose. Among the hotel’s highlights is En Route by renowned Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang – a major gunpowder explosion artwork, and one of the most valuable public art collections displayed in any hotel worldwide. The work is one of many

examples of Chinese contemporary art, all of which are curated by the Guardian Art Centre, and exhibited at The PuXuan Hotel & Spa. The hotel shares the same building with the Guardian Art Centre, a melding of hotel, art fair and exhibition spaces, auction, education, bookstores, and storage – Asia’s first integrated artwork exchange platform.

Further experiential activities await guests, such as rare and exclusive opportunities to witness privileged snapshots of the life, the sights, and the sounds of Beijing. The PuXuan Hotel & Spa offers cultural experiences beyond aesthetics such as Song Dynasty tea whisking (or tea painting) and incense rituals at the Tea Room, along with bespoke cultural journeys designed with local experts and artists. These half- and fullday programmes culturally codify the city via guided tours led by experts through the city’s hutongs; Old Legation Quarter; or the steps once taken by illustrious sages such as Confucius. Then, at the hotel’s spa, a selection of bespoke treatments

highlight luxury skincare, Chinese healing traditions, and pampering French massage techniques that deliver results and a sense of absolute indulgence.

The PuXuan Hotel & Spa’s two headline restaurants, Rive Gauche and Fu Chun Ju, add an extra layer of sophistication to Beijing’s dynamic dining scene. The focus at both establishments is on seasonal menus centred on artisanal produce local to the area. Rive Gauche, a bastion of French cuisine, and its art-filled environs, is both a restaurant and a meeting point of the city’s well-heeled residents. Sample libations such as No.1 WangFuJing Street, The Emperor’s Tea, and Peking meet Paris, all of which are liquid odes to Beijing’s rich tapestry of history and culture.

Fu Chun Ju, and its Cantonese cuisine by Chef Waikit Yeung, proffers distinct exercises in expert methods and exceptional flavours. Chef Yeung delights diners with his delightful dim sum, flavoursome roast meats, succulent seafood, and heart-warming claypot dishes. The hotel’s Tea Room, a spot

beloved by Beijing’s insiders, overlooks one of the city’s traditional locales that stretch through to the Forbidden City. Here, as with the entire hotel, an air of exclusivity and charm pervades.

The RuMa Hotel & Residences

The Malaysian art of hospitality is known around the world as being gracious and refined. The RuMa Hotel & Residences is a hotel whose roots run deeply into the country’s culture and countenance.

Located in Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle, the 253-key property, located by the Petronas Twin Towers and KLCC, captures the essence of “home” through its name, which is a playful nod to the Bahasa Malaysia word “rumah”. Here, the residential concept is composed of modernist takes on local design tropes, while respectfully paying tribute to Kuala Lumpur’s history and the country’s colonial past.

An urban sanctuary of the highest order, The RuMa Hotel and Residences features thoughtfully curated guest rooms and suites, most with views that capture inspiring vistas of the city’s everchanging skyline. The hotel is a showcase of the Malaysian capital’s social and dining scenes. At ATAS, the chefs deliver on the promise of sustainably minded cuisine prepared with authentic Malay cuisine. SEVEN Lobby Bar, which many consider the heart of the hotel, mixologists delight with edgy as well as classic libations. The LIBRARI, on the other hand, is an all-day establishment perfect for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, snacks, and everything inbetween. Then, the outdoor SANTAI Pool Bar and Lounge serves refreshing cocktails perfect for cooling off while in the sun.

On the hotel’s level six, wellness facilities begin with a 25-metre outdoor cantilevered pool and sundeck. Then at the hotel’s UR Spa, guests may indulge in treatments based on modern science and ancient healing modalities. Within the spa is a gym and a Truefitt & Hill barber shop, both of which are sophisticated responses to the needs of travellers looking for worldclass amenities and convenience.

IN THE WILD

Kenya’s Ol Jogi Wildlife Rescue Center and its rhino population has flourished through careful planning and strategic initiatives.

With its 29-year heritage, Ol Jogi Wildlife Rescue Center has been at the heart of conservation in Kenya. Its long-standing education programme focuses on exploration and environmental protection efforts and education for more than 100,000 Kenyans. The Ol Jogi Wildlife Rescue Center, Kenya’s second private sector rhinoceros sanctuary, designed much of its programmes to engender a sense of love and responsibility for the natural world. Suffice to say, a generation of Kenyans along with the country’s wildlife have benefitted from such instruction.

In the past few decades, Ol Jogi Wildlife Rescue Center has expanded and improved with changing times. Guests are more than welcome to participate in the centre’s conservation programmes during their exclusive safari experiences with them. Focus is placed on experientialthemed education programmes, such as “Maisha Yetu”, which is translated to “Our Lives”. An empowering initiative, “Maisha Yetu” extends past academic constructs and transforms into a journey inviting students and families “to rediscover the joy of connecting with nature”. The programme blends fun with innovation, and is designed for students to understand the interconnectedness of all living things in an engaging and thought-provoking way. Students learn about wildlife and conservation, and also begin a journey of self-exploration featuring hands-on experiences, interactive displays, and immersive learning environments.

In essence, the intention of “Maisha Yetu” is to educate and inspire. It strengthens community links with active involvement, by inviting local families to participate and by promoting a sense of ownership and responsibility. After all, the most effective lessons are those learned through experience. The Ol Jogi Wildlife Rescue Center believes that community is instrumental in ensuring that the rich biodiversity of flora and fauna of the region is preserved for generations to come.

One of the core areas of Ol Jogi Wildlife Rescue Center’s conservation efforts is its rhino conservation efforts. In 2023, the region, including Ol Jogi and many areas in East Africa, experienced prolonged drought. Rainfall for that year measured less than 50 per cent of the average annual rainfall in 2021 and 2022.

PHOTOGRAPHY: DURSTON SAYLOR, JAMIE GAYMER & SILVERLESS.

This invariably negatively impacted the rhino population as well as other species of wildlife. However, towards the latter half of 2023, the area experienced significant rainfall, presumably due to an El Niño phenomenon. This led to the flourishing of the conservancy and its rhino population, which now has more than 120 rhinos. Climate change and the erratic weather patterns, including drought, can be seen as one of the means nature utilises to bring about natural selection. The negative impact this has on rhinos at the centre is both unsettling to the creatures and the people at Ol Jogi, who have made it their mission to look after and to conserve the rhino population.

On the other hand, if one mentions the lions of Ol Jogi, reports would be on how these beasts have enjoyed the past few years. With prey in abundance, the lion population has expanded. But with such growth in numbers, lion prides have begun to look to prey such as rhinos as a source of sustenance. Ol Jogi, in 2023, lost three black rhinos that included two calves and one adult. Meanwhile, three older rhinos were lost due to “old age and drought”, according to Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) veterinarians.

However, there have also been rhino births. On 6 February 2023, “Namunyak”, a black rhino cow, delivered her first calf. But on 8 February, the team discovered the abandoned and injured calf was unable to walk. The calf was located by the centre’s rhino monitoring team, and underwent several agonising months of healing and rehabilitation.

Since the rhino poaching pandemic in the 1970s and 1980s, Kenya has reached 1,000 black rhinos for the first time since the near decimation of the species. Ol Jogi Wildlife Rescue Center and its team played – and continues to play – an essential role in realising this achievement in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS). But, the fact remains that there are challenges aplenty. The centre has run out of space to house the growing rhino populations, going beyond the exceeded ecological carrying capacity (ECC). Nevertheless, the region’s rhino populations have flourished, largely due to the dedication of Ol Jogi Wildlife Rescue Center and its dedicated teams. As one of the most established wildlife organisations in Kenya, Ol Jogi continues to work with dedication towards improving the welfare of rhino populations.

From Michelin-starred restaurants to tastemaking bars, Atlantis Dubai has it all – and a whole lot more.

Atlantis Dubai is known internationally as one of the world’s premier ultra-luxury hotels, where guests’ wishes are granted even before requests are made. It is this intuitive and personalised attention to detail that makes the hotel stand out, as does its palm-shaped design when seen from the skies. Within the hotel’s sophisticated sanctums, guests discover a gorgeous multiverse of indulgence.

There are no dull moments at Atlantis Dubai, as its inspiring selection of 29 restaurants, entertainment venues, and bars attests. For instance, at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, the renowned chef calibrates a menu comprising fascinating nuggets of history, transposing this into a modern dining event bar none. This ranges from his Meat Fruit, a playful mix of mandarin and chicken liver parfait, to the Spiced Tipsy Cake – a split roast pineapple dessert straight out of an 1810 recipe book.

Meanwhile, Chef Grégoire Berger presents an ocean-centric dining experience at Ossiano Dubai. His aim: to offer guests exclusive opportunities to sample stellar ingredients at the height of freshness. At Hakkasan, the restaurant’s Michelin-starred cuisine artfully merges authentic Cantonese recipes with modern flourishes. Adding to this: unorthodox

takes on wine and cocktails, presented in Hakkasan’s signature style.

Nobu Dubai, on the other hand, is a microcosm of celebrity Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s polished Japanese personality with Peruvian inspirations. Here, the restaurant’s interiors, shimmering with carefully considered lighting and semi-circled wicker panels, are odes to minimalist gods.

Over at Estiatorio Milos, considered one of the world’s best Mediterranean seafood restaurants, it’s all about Hellenic food, perfumed wine, and genuine Greek hospitality. Centred on a philosophy of simplicity, Chef Costas Spiliadis’s dishes bring out the purest flavours of Greek cuisine, where the ingredients instinctively communicate to one’s delighted taste buds.

At Ariana’s Persian Kitchen, awardwinning television chef and cookbook author Ariana Bundy delivers a personal extrapolation of Iranian food. Inspired by dishes from cherished family recipes, Chef Bundy brings to the plate previously untold tales of Persian culture, each of which are artfully presented and served at her restaurant.

Experimental Latin American gastronomy is what La Mar by Gastón

Acurio brings to Atlantis Dubai. Chef Acurio promises “an artistic explosion of Peruvian seafood masterpieces”. He also debuts the first traditional ceviche bar in Dubai at La Mar. The restaurant’s standout menu is also composed of ‘Sabores Autenticos’ and delicious cocktails.

Another highlight at Atlantis Dubai is FZN by Björn Frantzén, one of the few living chefs in the world with two restaurants that each hold three Michelin stars. At FZN, diners can expect a tasting menu with European and Japanese flavours in a sublime contemporary setting. Then, at Studio Frantzén Social Dining & Bar, the French-Asian menu merges with Nordic inspiration, bringing about refined and distinctive flavours.

No stranger in the celebrity chef world, Gordon Ramsay, with his Bread Street Kitchen & Bar, brings British cuisine to the shores of Dubai. The charming restaurant features a terrace, an ice cream bar, and live music. It’s perfect for casual dining with both family and friends. For those who want to savour a bit more of Ol’ Blighty, head to Little Venice Cake Company by Mich Turner, which began in 1999 in Little Venice, West London. Since then, this boutique cakemaker has become the ‘Bentley of cake-makers’. Turner’s creations can be found at luxury hotels, venues, and is the first choice of event planners in London and the United Kingdom. At her atelier in Dubai, Turner and her creations promise to serve royal red-carpet glamour.

At Seafire Steakhouse & Bar, known in the city for its superlative steaks, diners come for the New York vibes, rare vintages from the wine cellar, live entertainment, and the finest beef and seafood in the city.  Meanwhile, En Fuego is where you will find the ultimate fiesta every day of the week. The restaurant is all about honouring Latin traditions and a zest for life. So, expect thrilling performances and live music along with delicious dishes.   For flavours of Lebanon, Chef Ali El Bourji does not disappoint. Ayamna is known as one of the city’s top Arabic restaurants and is all about ‘the good old days’, where contemporary cuisine is paired with the best traditional entertainment. And for those who want to

see it all in one, make reservations for Ling Ling, which seamlessly transitions from day to night with its seductive medley of flavours, scenes, and tunes. A lounge, a bar, a restaurant, and a party destination, it takes a leaf from traditional Japanese izakayas, melding cocktails and food by award-winning chefs. Expect Pan-Asian dishes from menus that constantly evolve, coupled with craft libations.

To end one’s day on a high, head to Nobu’s debut pool and beach club at Atlantis The Royal, which is a beach club by day and a night spot in the evening. Creative Japanese-Peruvian nibbles, sharing platters, and dishes highlight Nobu’s attention to detail, as does the menu of acclaimed cocktails to savour as the sun sets over the horizon at one of the hottest spots in town and a favourite of scene makers.

In addition, Carbone Dubai, an ItalianAmerican restaurant created by Mario Carbone, Rich Torrisi and Jeff Zalaznick, is coming soon to Atlantis Dubai.

BEYOND TURQUOISE WATERS

This Moroccan gem offers abundant inspiration, thanks to its wellness options, health-centric cuisine, and exquisite Mediterranean views.

Unveiled in the summer of 2024, Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay emerges as the Royal Mansour Collection’s third exquisite jewel and a prestigious addition to Leading Hotels of the World. Here, the Mediterranean isn’t merely a backdrop –it’s a vibrant spectacle, with its turquoise waters providing a breathtaking panorama for 55 elegantly appointed suites. The suites and villas, designed to blend seamlessly with the landscape, take the form of a tranquil, sand-hued village, which is a testament to refined simplicity. Beyond the stunning setting, the promise of impeccable service

unfolds: each villa has a dedicated butler, embodying the art of discreet and intuitive Moroccan hospitality.

The cuisine at Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay is an epicurean journey orchestrated by Michelin-starred culinary masters. They include Spanish Chef Quique Dacosta, celebrated for his avant-garde creations; Chef Éric Frechon, a virtuoso of classic French technique; and the Alajmo Brothers, Italy’s acclaimed culinary duo, who together conjure a symphony of delectable Mediterranean fare, as each dish celebrates fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay’s crowning glory, however, is its remarkable 4,300 square metre MEDI-SPA, Morocco’s pioneering sanctuary where cuttingedge medical expertise meets five-star luxury. This isn’t a typical spa experience – it’s a personalised approach to holistic well-being. Guests are invited to explore treatments à la carte, while seamlessly integrating a quick “tweak-ment” or an invigorating cryotherapy session into their stay. This flexibility allows for a bespoke wellness journey, unconstrained by rigid schedules. The MEDI-SPA is a haven of tranquillity, a sanctuary comprising a

marine pool and hydrotherapy suites, a traditional hammam, meditation spaces, yoga and Pilates studios, and private relaxation areas designed for quiet contemplation.

For those seeking deeper immersion, the resort’s spa, with its traditional Moroccan rituals, offers a pathway to inner harmony and rejuvenation. The MEDI-SPA’s approach to wellness is comprehensive and tailored, beginning with in-depth assessments such as the Metabolic and Functional Balance, a detailed evaluation using blood tests to identify individual needs and imbalances. Nutritional Balance moves beyond standard diets, crafting bespoke meal plans inspired by the Blue Zone principles, which emphasises wellbalanced, bio-active dishes. Personalised nutritional guidance is further refined by bioimpedance testing, ensuring a truly individualised approach. Meanwhile, Physical Fitness & Energy employs cardiovascular, postural, muscle strength, and mobility testing to create personalised fitness regimes that promote vitality and enhanced performance. Sleep & Recovery decodes lifestyle and sleep habits with the objective of designing bespoke protocols for restorative rest and regeneration. Then, Stress & Emotional Management is addressed with scientific precision, using heart rate variability and cortisol cycle analysis to inform mindfulness, yoga, and energy treatments, which fosters mental and emotional equilibrium.

Beyond these advanced evaluations, the property’s MEDI-SPA embraces a spectrum of rejuvenating therapies: cryotherapy’s invigorating chill, acupuncture’s precise release, sound healing’s resonant calm, and lymphatic drainage’s gentle detox. Specialised treatments such as Watsu massage, osteopathy, and Ayurvedic therapies complete these holistic offerings, catering to diverse wellness aspirations. Private yoga, Pilates Reformer, and high-intensity training sessions are also

available for those seeking enhanced physical and mental fortitude.

Dining here in the MEDI-SPA is intrinsically linked to the philosophy of well-being. Menus are thoughtfully configured for longevity, drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean Blue Zone diet, which celebrates seasonal fruits and vegetables, and emphasises fresh fish as the primary protein source. Guests can choose from three menus (850, 1,300, and 1,500 calories), as each is a carefully crafted collaboration between the resort’s Executive Chef and the resident nutritionist, ensuring

both culinary excellence and nutritional balance. Although the 850-calorie menu is recommended for the longevity programme, the emphasis remains on choice and personalisation, acknowledging that individual wellness journeys vary.

The Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay views each guest as an individual with a unique health and wellness narrative. The resort’s overarching aim is to become a partner in that journey, optimising each guest’s experience to achieve their fullest potential for well-being and a life lived to its peak.

CALL OF THE LAST CONTINENT

Experience a unique Antarctic awakening with White Desert, venturing through sweeping white landscapes that shapeshift with the changing of the seasons.

White Desert, founded in 2005 by internationally acclaimed polar explorer Patrick Woodhead, began with a singular mission: to provide access to the interior of Antarctica for individuals beyond the scientific community and polar explorers. The award-winning company is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and its diverse team members – comprising 150 people from 18 different nationalities – have dedicated themselves to crafting bespoke Antarctic explorations. Trips commence in South Africa, venturing towards the planet’s most remote, least-visited region.

After long periods of darkness, fierce winds and extreme cold yield to the sun’s return, its light illuminating the vast Antarctic terrain. The landscape unfolds from sweeping white plateaus to dramatic rock spires and mountains piercing the glacier ice. At Echo and Whichaway, White Desert’s two luxury camps, guests observe and feel the frozen frontier in remarkable comfort every year from November. Here, sunlight dances upon frozen lakes and snow-covered glaciers, and the entire landscape is bathed in 24-hour daylight in Earth’s most uncharted locations. With the changing weather, Antarctica’s raw beauty is revealed in the form of iridescent blue ice caves. During the early months, these ice tunnels offer extraordinary glimpses into an otherworldly environment. For a brief period, they glow in brilliant shades of blue as sunlight penetrates the ice, initiating the

transformation of these natural works of art from solid ice to liquid water by the end of the season. Around this time, Atka Bay – which is also the location of the filming of the new Netflix series Secrets of the Penguins – welcomes the arrival of emperor penguin chicks. Both Echo and Whichaway camps offer access to this vital location, providing an unparalleled opportunity to witness the penguin colony at its most populous. The newly hatched chicks remain close to their parents, seeking essential protection during a crucial phase of growth.

White Desert’s camps, situated in a region of the world largely untouched by human presence, operate with a keen awareness of their environmental footprint. Solar energy systems, powered by the almost endless sunlight, ensure operations have a light and carefully considered impact on the delicate environment. As Antarctica’s pioneering luxury camp operator, White Desert was the first to trial the use of sustainable aviation fuel in the area, underscoring the balance between exploration and vital environmental stewardship.

In this exceptionally remote setting, guests connect intimately with the natural world at its most pristine. As January arrives, Antarctica’s landscape undergoes another striking transformation. The snowscapes surrounding Whichaway camp give way to flowing blue rivers that lead towards the Southern Ocean, glistening under the constant sunlight. Over at Atka Bay, the emperor penguin chicks achieve independence, their waterproof plumage now fully developed. It is during this period that the penguin colony begins to disperse, venturing out to sea in search of food, thus marking the end of their time on land for the season.

In the final week of January, the skies begin to display truly extraordinary sunsets, signalling the gradual conclusion of 24-hour daylight. Bathed in shades of gold and pink, the sky shimmers upon the expansive ice fields and crystal lakes. These moments are often described as unadulterated magic, where the dramatic scenery is accompanied by the profound silence filling the air. It is at this point of the season when the area’s unique geological characteristics become more prominent. For this week only, guests will be able to stay at both camps in one extended itinerary and experience all of what White Desert has to offer.
